You can also get older versions of apps that existed back then too by going to purchases on the app store and clicking the cloud (without opening it). There should be a popup where you can cancel the download or download an older version.

This actually surprises me and at the same times kind of makes sense. It would get slower since the more updates it gets the more features it tries to implement, but at the same time since technology keeps improving at such a fast rate, Apple should be able to implement these features without necessarily slowing the devices down. Really interesting video man, I enjoyed it a lot.
I get that software tends to get heavier over time as more features are added, and newer devices get more powerful. But Apple really needs to offer users of older iOS devices the ability to downgrade to an earlier version such as iOS 6, like older Mac users are able to downgrade back to Snow Leopard. Simplicity and speed are arguably what makes the iPhone great.

At least my ipad air 2 did get slower from ios 8 to ios 9.2. And I dont think it is going to get better. Instead the opposite. The same animations now take more time to load, makes no sense unless theres something fcked up going on behind the scenes.
I think iOS 7 is the best firmware you can actually have on a 4S! It runs pretty smooth, got most of the new features and it still have that "modern" look

I know it's probably too late, but you can get iOS 6 back, 6.1.3. You just jb your phone and then you an downgrade because apple made mistake in ota updates ( there are RUclips tutorials hot to do it)
you can just jailbreak your current iOS, download cool booter, and select between iOS 5,6,7,8,9 to use... also, you can dual boot like iOS 6 and 9, like I am doing

@Paul Iliadis yeah, you could downgrade 4S to iOS 6.1.3 until November 8, 2019. On that day Apple stopped to sign that version for 4S, but you still can downgrade using jailbreak and OTA :)
I upgraded mine to iOS7 just to check out the new features thinking I could downgrade like in Android (The 4s was my first iPhone). The phone was slow as shit but then I realized there was no way to downgrade. Then I upgraded to iOS 8 then to iOS 9 hoping that I might get the smoothness back which I lost in iOS7 but no such luck. Nope nope nope, not at all. It seems faster because of the old hardware and old software, but because the new iOS updates need more power to run, it is slower than the older softwares. Think about it this way, old hardware+old software=fast. Old hardware+new software=slow
The only true way to test this is if you whip out the all the iPhones with all of their original iOS versions, and then you test which is faster. You can think about it like this, Strong person+weights=lift easily. Weak person plus weights=can barely lift at all. (If you haven't already figured it out the strong person is the iPhone 6s and the weak person are the older phones. The weights are the new iOS)

It's a trick. Apple allowed the iPhone 4S to have the recent update which makes it slower and therefore makes the consumer spend money to buy a newer iPhone. My brother's iPhone 4 running on iOS 7 is like 100 times slower than when it was in iOS 6. Apps keep freezing and crashing.

Control center is available on iOS 5 and 6, double click the home button, then swipe left 2 times Control center, just very minimal though.

I know it's probably too late, but you can get iOS 6 back, 6.1.3. You just jb your phone and then you an downgrade because apple made mistake in ota updates ( there are RUclips tutorials hot to do it)
you can just jailbreak your current iOS, download cool booter, and select between iOS 5,6,7,8,9 to use... also, you can dual boot like iOS 6 and 9, like I am doing
you can downgrade iphone 4s with odysseusOTA tool from iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 6.1.3, but most app are not compatible now
I wish apple would go back to ios 6 it was the best and in my opinion looks a hell of a lot nicer and it was the last ios that was inspired by steve jobs

Thanks for making the vid very informative I don't necessarily think they are making it slower on purpose but you have to think as new updates are released more resources are being used which is why they update their hardware every year. If they all loaded the same there would be no point in updating hardware. Just a thought could be totally off lol thanks again keep up the great content

@Paul Iliadis yeah, you could downgrade 4S to iOS 6.1.3 until November 8, 2019. On that day Apple stopped to sign that version for 4S, but you still can downgrade using jailbreak and OTA :)
New iOS update means they try to make more lag on our older devices :'( for us to buy latest apple device.
I upgraded mine to iOS7 just to check out the new features thinking I could downgrade like in Android (The 4s was my first iPhone). The phone was slow as shit but then I realized there was no way to downgrade. Then I upgraded to iOS 8 then to iOS 9 hoping that I might get the smoothness back which I lost in iOS7 but no such luck. Why the hell doesn't Apple allow us to downgrade our phones? I mean I paid for it in full, unlocked doesn't that make it mine? WTF man.. I stopped using my iPhone 4s nowadays. Can anyone tell me whether it's still possible to go back to iOS6? I miss the smoothness of the system back then :(

+Meeping Gaming Well, the 4S is almost 5 years old. Lithium ion batteries tend to only last about 5 years. So if you want better battery life without buying a new phone, just take apart your phone and put a new battery.

During the video, the ios 6, downloaded the OTA update.. see the red badge was missing on the video start. basically that device was working even harder on background to download and prepare the ios update.. not fair comparision

It has to have the bundles though, I forget if ios 6.1.x is included bundle for it but if not you can try to contact him as the README file says, but from my own experience though, he isn't very responsive.
Apple is making the old phones slower and slower with the updates so that you get the new iPhones.

Nope nope nope, not at all. It seems faster because of the old hardware and old software, but because the new iOS updates need more power to run, it is slower than the older softwares. Think about it this way, old hardware+old software=fast. Old hardware+new software=slow

The only true way to test this is if you whip out the all the iPhones with all of their original iOS versions, and then you test which is faster. You can think about it like this, Strong person+weights=lift easily. Weak person plus weights=can barely lift at all. (If you haven't already figured it out the strong person is the iPhone 6s and the weak person are the older phones. The weights are the new iOS)

The best way to test each version is to put them on the iPhone 6s which has the better processing power and decide whether the amount of features is equivalent to the processing power. We won't be downgrading processing power so we don't need to be relative

It's a trick. Apple allowed the iPhone 4S to have the recent update which makes it slower and therefore makes the consumer spend money to buy a newer iPhone. My brother's iPhone 4 running on iOS 7 is like 100 times slower than when it was in iOS 6. Apps keep freezing and crashing.
