- Join us as we head to Alton Towers to ride our first roller coaster since getting married. As we first met during the construction of The Smiler back in 2013, we decided that this would be the perfect ride to experience for the first time as a married couple!

Must’ve been such a special moment getting on your first ride since marriage, which was the same ride that brought you two together! Not my favourite ride by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s certainly nostalgic & probably is super special for the both of you.

I too was disappointed with alton towers esp for an ex employee not to mention all the free advertising they get!!!!
I totally agree with you. I think they also should have let Shawn and Charlotte have an on ride video on the smiler just for one day as their wedding gift. This would have been a perfect memory for them both
We would have loved to of filmed our ride. Maybe one day we’ll be able to!

Watched this while wearing a Smiler shirt, not on purpose. Did my first visit to England from the States a few weeks ago. Loved the Alton Towers and the other parks I visited. I recall seeing you two at Cedar Point back in May. I hope your driving in the States wasn't as nerve-racking as my driving around England. Congratulations!

That is so special for you both ,that the smiler was your first ride as a married couple ,thank you for sharing it with all of us .Shawn mentioned the black hole and it brought back some amazing memories for me as i went to alton towers for my honeymoon ,we rode the black hole and laughed all the way round ,i loved that ride ,i can still remember hearing the words sit back and hold on tight like it was yesterday.

Smiler is a truly magical coaster sure it has a odd history with ups and downs but it will always be one of my top 5 coasters of all time

I remember being in Travel & Tourism class back in high school and we went on a trip to Alton Towers where they had the SW7 signage up. And for whatever reason at that point I followed the construction of the ride and was fascinated by the themeing. Never had that for a ride before then. It remains my favorite ride (baring in mind I've only done Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach so far).
