Dude, don't hold your breath. If you hold your breath you're more likely to black out. Also, it's usually better to keep your eyes open so that you don't get surprised by the ride (plus, some coasters, like The Smiler, are heavily themed and you miss out if your eyes are closed).
Most of the theme is gone now due to the crash

I went on that a couple of days ago during strike. It was awesome, although I was queueing with my friend for two hours with this fucking song playing all the time... 'Hahahahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaa HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!'

Go on lightly rainy days. The water will make the ride go faster and queues are shorter. I got on nemesis in 3 minutes!

Just been for two days. Managed 6 rides on smiler. It's a fantastic ride. This man was terrified though. Well done for facing his fears.

But seriously, I respect people who go on rides despite not being fans. As long as they don't scream their lungs out the whole time, making it painful for all the other riders. But he's a trooper.

I went on this ride last year, it really was one of the craziest rollercoasters id ever been on. It was hard at times to keep your eyes open because of how fast it was but it was really good

I love the adrenaline feeling when your pulling down your lap bar or your over shoulder restraints it makes me feel nervous but excited.

The ride wasn't opened for all yet because it was May 19th 2013 this was posted and the smiler didn't open till may 29th 2013 AND you can see that there were still some plastic wrap on the yellow things.

I was honestly so terrified to go on this but it is brilliant! What made me feel the most sick was the nerves before hand! Not the actual ride! It's worth the long queue it is amazing!!
Smiler was my first roller coaster and i was in my early tweens. I laughed my head off lol 😂 my favourite ride.
That half way vertical lift hill is great. A very cool coaster but I honestly think Nemesis is still the best coaster at the Towers, possibly the best in the UK, not tried Icon yet though.

Obviously the saddest thing is that people were seriously injured but it upsets me people now talk about the ride like it's bad now it is amazing and the engineering which went into making this ride is fascinating.
@@Rabbitzz ikr people now stereotype the smiler as a safety hazard and don't even bother tryin it, and what's upsetting is they removed so much of the great theming due to the communication error

smiler was the first rollercoaster with loops i ever went on, i’ve always been scared of rides, my friends forced me on it though. i rode it 6 times that day.

There is really no reason to be so terrified. These rides are safer than driving a car. Smiler looks like fun!

@@Autumn-pr8ve Not really. Yes there was a nasty incident on this rollercoaster, an incident caused by human error in fact. The ride's safety features were actually averting a disaster because it recognised a problem on the track, before a person overrode them and forced the ride to operate. This ended in disaster. The ride was also being operated in winds (40+ mph) that exceeded the safety limit (30mph).
But considering the number of people who've now ridden this rollercoaster safely and there have been no major mishaps on this ride since it reopened in 2016, it clearly is relatively safe.
I watched this whilst having a cup of tea. I ended up with tea flooding out of my nose due to laughing so much 🤣
I was 11 when I rode this, best time of my life :)

My mum went on this today as her first rollercoaster and she closed her eyes the whole time too😂 It was her first coaster like I said so she didn’t really know what they were like. So let’s just say she underestimated it😂

Working Gerstlauer coasters is so much fun! I’m an operator at Mystery Mine (Euro-fighter) at Dollywood!
While I have never personally operated a coaster, Mystery Mine seems like it would be a fun one to run!
The only other rides i'd been on that go upside down always have the track above the car so it was a pleasant surprise on this ride to look up and see the track when your upside down.

Going with school in July I'm soooo going on this. The accident wasn't the rides fault, it was the operators fault for letting 2 carts go at the same time. Or else that wouldn't have happened. The smiler has been closed for a long time now and it's finally opened again so I'm really excited to ride it!
