The shop is real creepy. It's the same song, but less creepy because you've been "fixed".

Fun fact: The main theme plays when you're about to get marmalised, hence you hear all the negative stuff (screaming, raspy beats ect). After the ride, you go into the shop, where the theme is much more upbeat, due to you being marmalised and seeing the world as more positive, though its meant to be the same theme.
I didn't notice that until now, that's actually really cool.
They changed to to you being corrected now apparently people didn’t like it saying time to get marmalised so they changed it to time to get corrected

I love how silly and whimsical the Smiler Shop theme is it’s sorta like realizing after riding the smiler that it wasn’t nearly as scary as you initially thought

Notice how in the Station Audio, you can hear muffled laughing, almost like it’s in another distant room, at multiple points during the theme. This is to show that you are just about to enter the process of marmalization, and you can hear the other patients already BEING marmalized. You can also hear doors closing, general ambience to really set the tone that you are now in the Institute ready to receive treatment. And the main instruments of the theme, just constant daunting beats, represents the fear and suspense taking over all of your senses are you are just about to enter, just about to ride The Smiler. All of these factors REALLY sets the tone, taking a realistic approach instead of the usual theme music by using ambience of the institute and OTHER PATIENTS LAUGHING AS THEY SLOWLY LOOSE THEIR SANITY, all accompanied by the dramatic simple beats of the song, mirroring the rhythm of your afraid heart, beating in time with the music. The station audio is my favorite by far, and IMAscore are pure geniuses for this track in particular. It never fails to move me. 😵💫😵💫💖
You're actually right: originally the smiler was supposed to be a hospital theme but they didn't have the budget and the ride was already extremely expensive, so they went with industrial instead

I heard this theory about the smilers theme tune. So, when your in the queue line its like a creepy laughing song, then, when you get in to the correction block and the station, it sounds like a horror theme, like your paranoid. Then when you get off the ride, and go into the shop its like happy, joyful and welcoming music like you got corrected.

I’m American, and when I saw this ride a long time ago I was OBSESSED WITH IT. So much in fact, that I made my own oc based off the ride. And even RUclips account used to be called something like “Kiz_Smilr” or something. I can’t wait to ride this someday!
It was actually my first “big” ride that got me into roller coasters, it’s a little rough but it’s super fun

My opinions about how the ride makes you feel!
Viewing the ride: Gives you the feeling of temptation as you choose to go in
Queuing up: The feeling of anxiety as the “pre-ride nerves” begin to settle in
Station: Thé feeling of regret as you helplessly board the coaster
Shop music: The feeling of relief as you’ve conquered the ride
Btw this is in terms of the ride itself, not it’s story
The only thing I regret was letting my nerves get the best of me 😢
The main theme plays when you're about to get marmalised, in the queue line. After the ride, you hear the shop music, which is much more upbeat. This is due to you being marmalised, and seeing everything as more positive
same with every ride
IMAscore did a great job of conveying the theming. The main theme and queue make you feel terrified before riding, like you are about to undergo a horrifying experiment. The station makes this feeling even more intense, with sounds of electricity short-circuting and hissing of pipes and machinery. The maniacal laughter is coming from patients undergoing the experiment when you're about to board. Then you ride it, and exit out to the shop, with a cheery, non-distorted version of the main theme. The marmalisation is complete; You belong to the smiler.
My brother cried in the station we was about to go on the front I dragged him and he sat in the chair so I put the harness down and he was kicking of haha I was sat on the front on the edge right side and got squirted 🫢

Went on this in 2014 with all the original themeing and soundtrack and my dad got to the halfway point and thought it was over XD the look on his face was priceless. Especially when it went “half way corrected” 😂

The station audio does such a good job of making you terrified. I remember the first time I rode the smiler, hearing this in the station made me almost want to turn around and leave! IMAScore are geniuses.
I bought the IMAscore Alton Towers disc and this soundtrack made me edgy for a while 😂

I've never rode the Smiler, nor will I ever (I live in the US and I hate rollercoasters lol), but I _really_ dig the marketing/aesthetic/lore around it. They weren't messing around.

The smilers soundtrack is designed so well. One of the possible marmalisation side effects is toe twitches caused by the beat of the music (says on the queue screens)

I was in line for the world's tallest SkyCoaster just down the road from Walt Disney World and the theme was playing in my head.

In 2015 the smiler malfunctioned and 4 of the riders of the smiler was severely injured, it was like something out of a movie it was horrible, it was all because of the staff who were controlling the ride too. On top of that alton towers has a rep for being one of the most dangerous theme parks in the UK
That station audio section and ending of the shop theme sounds like the Marmaliser machine stomping through and Correcting everyone (with all its elements: the Hypnotiser, Tickler, Flasher, Inoculator, and Giggler) as people scream in horror, and then the screams turn to maniacal laughter, it’s absolutely brilliant sound design on IMAscore’s part.
Also, it seems the Smiler can claim people all the way from here in the USA, because now I really want to go.

I think they should add speakers on the carts and feature the music
They should add speakers on the trains like how there are cameras. They can charge in maintenance. Music/effects can be played at certain points in the ride to help with theming. They could also add theming on the indoor section of the queue similar to The Sanctuary maze

While I can't see myself ever riding this ride, I can imagine performing as some kind of "patient". This music just gave me that sort of vibe. The sort of thing where I could just act insane and laugh all the time.... It gets to a point where smiles become more scary than friendly.

I actually love this soundtrack. The ride itself looks so intimidating and the music does what it sets out to do with terrifying you while you wait for the ride.
It's too bad that The Smiler gained such a bad reputation because of the accident, because I love the aesthetic and the music of this ride. I'd love to ride it one day.

I remember being at Alton towers and shaking while I ate my lunch, having to listen to this with the thought of going on it in a couple of minutes 😭 The main theme does a really great job of making the atmosphere feel scary just before you ride

After riding this recently my girlfriend turned to me and gave me a creepy Smiler smile! I laughed and I gave one back to her! I was then tempted to keep it going all the way through the gift shop and if any of the staff looked at me I was going to go "I am one with The Smiler!" But I didn't because I imagine that they get that all the time and are probably sick of it!

I went on this on my birthday the wait was worth it and the music was divine felt so happy and insane
I remember uploading the unreleased at the time version of the soundtrack which was this in early 2020 lol, glad to see people can finally (to an extent) hear more then just the IMAScore snippets
Also the shop theme is the exit corridors music in this
I used to be TERRIFIED of rollercoasters. One time, my family went on a surprise trip to Alton, just after the Smiler had reopened after the incident. Scary enough for me, I'd never been on any coaster before. This music both made my music brain whizz and terrify me.
It starts with the Main theme when you enter X Sector, involving all the elements of the later "phases". The Que phase focuses on the intensity, trying to scare you, with an industrial song, widely cutting out the laughter. This was the point where I wanted to turn back, but something pushed me to go ahead.
The Station phase feels like your mind trying to focus on the happy and positive, with the laughter taking centre stage, with some distorted effects to still keep you on edge, along the short theme after the surprise roll overwhelming you.
I loved the ride itself, being able to faintly hear the main theme during the drops of the ride. It made a theme park enthusiast, and eradicated my fear.
The Shop theme feels like you've overcome a massive challenge, and have made it to the other side, negativity and fear behind.
It's genius on both a lore level and mind-manipulating level.
Bruh why does the queue line music sound so good. It sounds so high tech😀

When we went to Alton Towers, I remember seeing signs of the way into the Station/ little building saying about the Marmaliser. As a kid whenever we got maramlised it would be genuinely so overwhelming not being able to get away from the parent doing it and then I'd get punished for kicking people haha, so seeing it on the way inside I turned to my family and said something along the lines of "if anyone touches me in there, I will get violent"
Typical now that I really want to go back and just relive that day and not change a thing about it. Wish I could ride the Smiler again

@@tillyfaulkner6003 Marmalising refers to basically tickling and causing hysterics to someone relentlessly until they beg you to stop or start crying through the laughter, its like funny torture, so it makes sense the Smiler machine would use something called the Marmaliser since the goal of the Smiler (in fiction) is to make people smile in horrifying ways

@@tillyfaulkner6003 No haha, don't worry! They leave you alone entirely, but some staff are acting in character throughout. Nobody touches you, its all just set pieces and props. As far as queue lines go, its pretty cool! The queue is mostly fully underneath the ride in a cage corridor, so the rollercoaster thunders along right above you

I renmber going on this ride a couple of years a go. We were waiting for nearly 2h and me and my cousing would be singing this the whole time for 2 days straight.
I have a really good memory on this ride because there was hair stuck in my seat. You go upside down 14 times with is crazy to think about.
