0:25 "im going to shoot the same shot twice" -- Then never shoots the same shot twice.. lol
Main takeaway: this dude just knows how to color really well!!!
S-Log for sure, i could tell the difference. The s-log shows more detail, while on the HLG shots you can clearly see the detail fall apart creating that 80-s film look. Also the colours was clearer on the S-log. This is my opinion :)!
awesome!! tyea i think when i shot in SLOG in that bright situation, there was more data in the shawdows and hightlights ! thanks for watching ! :)
@@Henbu hell yea, love ur content! Lemme know if u come to Norway, would love shooting together :)!
HLG2 looked sooo cinematic
I’m a newbie shooting video and was struggling to get decent looking video on my Sony a6400, I saw this video and started using in HLG2 and straight out the camera my video look good, I bought your LUT pack and it looks even better, for a newbie that is, huge thanks
In my eyes SLog had more shadow detail but the highlights were harsh though. Maybe HLG had the darker shadows but the highlights looked soft and flattering.
Did a whole video in HLG2, all the footage was way over exposed even though in camera it was exposed correctly. Didn't know that if you're using FCPX you have to go into the settings and change the color space to either a LUT or to rec 709. Colors out of the camera are amazing.
They both looked nice, but in my opinion HLG 2 looked more cinematic. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Bro fan from India such a important and useful stuff u made ...u r my mentor from know seriously u show the genuine prob which we people face love u..and please make some more stuff on slog and hlg and picture profile ...
woah! thanks amit! glad you enjoy my videos! comments like these help motivate me to keep grinding, thanks man!
There’s a misconception about HLG, it is not a pseudo log. It’s a whole separate workflow which allows you to output HDR material which is both HDR and SDR compatible. It was not conceived the way every RUclipsr is now using it. Maybe a good test would be to use it the way it is intended and grade it in an HDR environment, with a proper color managed workflow and see if your HDR master works well also viewed on an SDR monitoring... comparing how HDR and SDR handle shadow and HL detail, color accuracy... you know... using HLG like HLG and see if it’s a viable choice.
Alexis Cosar the output on people’s phones watching yt isn’t hdr so
sunlight Yep, every Oled iPhone is HDR compatible for YT, probably the same for Samsung and the like. So... real HLG anyone ?
we grade it with a 709 environment bc that’s the target color space we’re intending it for : youtube. i think you’re hung up on “how it’s supposed to be used” - it’s just a tool that that can be used multiple ways; it has almost identical dynamic range to slog but its workflow is faster. that’s why i use it, even if my target output is instagram and facebook ads. there are videos by sony that cover hlogs intended use for those who need it. in a nutshell my point is this : the tool serves the creator and not the other way around.
In a way, you're absolutely right. HLG was created with the intention of grading for HDR.
On the other hand, when you correct the footage to Rec709, this profile has great dynamic range and the best for quick grading and delivery when working on non broadcast content, like youtube videos or social media. Just because you have a Ferrari, doesn't mean you have to drive it @ 200mph all the time.
Spot on - the more accessible RUclips becomes, the less value it will inevitably become as a source of reliable information as an ocean of "well it worked for me" rises to the top haha
Please make a video on how you import and edit your HLG footage. The whole bt2020 and rec709 conversion can be a bit confusing at times.
I could tell the difference but i think only because of the first round of shots . When you see them one after the other , there are some differences , specially in dynamic range . Hlg2 was more contrasty and the colors " warmer" i don't really know how to explain it . I think a better test would be with skin tones , to see if slog2 is really that bad
Could you make a video where u present us your SLOG2 and HLG personally Settings?
My thought tho 🥴🥴
I shoot HLG3 since it have more dynamic range and easier color grading.
for 8bit hlg3 is no no
Been waiting for this one bro! Still learning SLog but HLG is my go to right now! Keep inspiring my dude!
thanks man!! yea Slog is pretty hard sometimes and even i will underexpose or over expose my image at times, cant go wrong with HLG2!! :)
@@Henbu Which PP in HlG2???
OMAAARRR u have good taste in music
Emily F someone knows!!!! :)
Who's the artist of this trackkkkk?
henbu is low key the goat
Bro u r my favorite youtuber I've been following your work from long time hv to say I lov u the way u think..and figure out that will be a use full stuff for people ....iam gonna tell all my Indian friends bout your work....
I like slog3, not color graded lol. Im really loving the grey tones it kind of adds to my theme of short films im doing right now. One day soon I will have to figure out what the hell im doing and color grade it though ...
I think HLG3 is better (is what I use) but here in this video some shots I like more slog 2 and others hlg2. Don’t know if it’s your grade make me kind of undecided cuz both seems great. 🙏👏👏
i thought i was going crazy, each time i heard the ding i would check my imessage to see nothing. you got me good lol
Me too!
what‘s ur workflow about dealing with HLG?
Need a workflow asap come on man
Gerald undone definitely went in on these PP for Sony. Great video!
Awesome video bro. just bought your HLG LUTS :) keep up the dope content.
Something about that HLG2 that felt so calming.
Something about HLG bothers me a bit but I can’t figure it out. I’m gonna give it another shot though
Drew Kocak It might be the colors popping a tiny bit more than the colors in slog. I know it’s all adjustable, but in a way I think the hlg colors are a tiny bit more ”plasticy” if you see what I mean? I actually like that about it some times, but other times, like in music videos etc I find it a bit less realistic in a way.
@@BeatsByEndless Yes you can pretty much tell the difference straight away. I reckon SLOG is more flat and offers more room for post, so it turns out more cinematic? While HLG being HDR is somehow too vivid and lost the blurry/fairy tone.
But surely HLG is way easier to manage for beginners. Only personal feelings.
@@ADof28 Yeah, you're right about that! Only thing is, when I'm recording HLG with my Sony a7iii and using bt. 2020, I have some problems knowing if I'm adjusting it "right", so that the final export should look the best it can. Do you record HLG with the re or with the bt2020 settings?
Great Vid! Loved the examples. So for your head talking part you would be using your HLG Lut then right? Just love that color grade on that part a lot!
Alex Gray yea ! Also my lighting helps :) good lighting will always yield good results for grading!
Am I the only one who has af issue when using slog 2 or 3 ??
The af struggle a lot in slog, and hunt before finding the subject, wherease in any other PP the focus is nice an quick ....
Yes its True. The AF seems based on contrast of the Picture, when on slog its very flat. I try many lenses, but result was the same AF in slog struggle in low light if you font expose to the right. Hoewer its working better in A6300 with slog.
@@ryszardzokowski812 nevermind, fuck the slog
I now shoot on hlg 3 and rec709 to avoid the green tint.
I still have a great dynamic range while keeping the quick AF
Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
it is really a nice comparison between hlg2 and slog 2.
I saw a run a gun setup where they would use auto iso with the meter dialed to +2 so they wouldn’t have to worry about the change in lighting. It has its cons though haha good video !
Frank Dolan haha interesting, I wouldn’t do that but cool ! 🙂
Henbu I wouldn’t ! Lmao
Can u tell us your HLG Settings?
Last shot with sun looks better in HLG2 with better highlight rolloff
Please, could you activate subtitlles ? Thanks a lot! Great job!
I'd love to see your camera settings! What your preferred settings for video are.
you should watch Gerald undone's video on Picture profiles, he makes good points as to why using HLG or HLG3 make more sense to use over HLG1 and 2 Sick video through and appreciate the content :) HLG > SLOG strictly from a time to edit perspective.
And i am gonna spread to all my Indian filmmaker friends...
Doing a little HLG3 shooting myself these days.... 🤫
ayyy my guy!! i tried HLG3 in japan and i personally enjoy hlg 2 more but just my opinion! :)
@@Henbu In harsh lighting conditions like these wouldn't HLG3 have been better? HLG3 has more dynamic range.
i always watch your youtube videos i like the way you present ....
Really good video bro. Thanks for posting the dif between the 2
Thanks gilly for watching!!!
Do you used ND filter? Which one?
2:00 crazy shotttt
Lens?
I feel you on the watching your own old videos statement. Every time I watch one of my old ones I’m like, damn! That was bad.😂
Great demonstration
yesssssssssssssssssssssss
this is what i waiting for
i think i will stick with HLG :D
S Log always seems to look the best, I always shoot over exposed by 2 stops! Not sure what you shoot at but the A7iii is so nice. what lens did you shoot the slowmo on?
Just switched to slog2, never looked back.
Of course I just bought the ronin S for the barrel roll and sold my crane 2 because it couldn’t lmao 🙄
Drew Kocak 😂😂😂😂😂
RIPIP
Hey Henbu I tried buying ur LUTS online and when u went to checkout the PayPal website did not load
I swear I checked my phone 10x cuz of your timer
Are they factory settings? Or you tweaked some settings?
Definitely prefer HLG. How do you check the firmware updates on your crane?
Can you plz tell us exactly how you setting the hlg2. Is it by going to profile 10 and that’s it ?
check out this video i made in the past : ruclips.net/video/IZAh53mUE_4/видео.html
Hey dude, thank you for your video really well done, but I have a question for you, How you can deal with the fact that Slog2 and 3 doesn't allow to drop the ISO below 800 on sony A7Riii? Because I think is pretty bad that you can not manage that with the high risk to see some noise.
@Henbu which of your SLOG2 luts are you using at 1:56? Thanks! Looks great.
Delmar fair video?? I'd love to see how you shoot low light there.
Great video man!
Sorry, Photography/Lightroom question.. does anyone know of way to use HLG2 as a baseline profile for editing RAW photos in Lightroom when shooting with A7iii? I used to use the vision log profile in lightroom when editing RAW with the Canon 5D3and it helped to get that nice flat film look for raw photo edits without doing too much work. I haven't seen an equivalent for the Sony A7iii. I've noticed the A7iii's default lightroom profiles are really dark, contrasty and harsh looking, sometimes with clipped whites and blacks.
Hlg just seems way too warm
what didn't you just gimbal it all along?
Thank you! was justing searching for this. But if you wanna be more creative with the color grading for a (music)video what pp would you say is the best?
I have a basic question. When you filming and settup up the Apurture, ISO to make right exposure and shutter speed but when you filming and sometimes lights changes and goes to -2 then +4 then -3 depending where you shooting in the same location how you guys do?
How would you compare cine4 to hlg2? Both are soft grades in my opinion
Hey Henbu
can you show me your hlg 2 Settings ? Wish you all the best
Usually I use Slog2 which I think is the best picture profile for Sony cameras. But I have to admit that sometimes it makes me swear, especially during night shots .. I tried the HLG3 (with the settings made available by another youtuber) and using some lut + color grading. But it doesn't convince me at all. How can I explain ... It is not very cinematic, it seems like too "clean" .. I don't know if I explained myself well ...
Yes when I can also face this suction in morning snow at I got noise
slog2 to rec2100_hlg HDR -> is this possible? I tried many luts but nothing gives that poppy hdr colors we see.
Which one do you prefer? Slog2 or Slog3?
slog 2 !! :)
Hey Henbu, did you use VND filters at all in your shots?
I prefer the SLOG grade you had especially for the more "cinematic" youtube stuff. But I feel for HLG could maybe be more useful in pro environments?
Which PP in HlG2???
Hey! love your channel brother. New subscriber here.
good stuff man
Just wanted to know why your 55mm look so wide in few shots 🤔?
keep thinking i was getting texts haha great video
yes, liked HLG2
I like the hlg a lot more
Hey bud, I am in the middle of trying to decide what Variable ND filter to buy and wanting to go with PolarPro's peter mckinnon VND's. I am curious if I will need the 2-5 stop or the 6-9 stop. When you were shooting on the beach in that sunny situation (which I know was probably golden hour) do you know how many stops down you were set at? Shooting at Golden Hour with a more open aperture could i get away with the 2-5? My gear is a7iii and the SLRMagic MicroPrime cine lenses.
Shane Carrigan depends on lens you use and how much light you have to cut away
Anbody know if that firmware update for the crane was also added to the crane plus?
Does the HLG luts work if I selected my HLG2 profile with 709 in the camera pp? which colour space do you use in the camera pp?
Image looks sharper on HLG2.
Hey ! Why did you change from hlg3 to hlg2 ?
HLG personally did it for me
Dude... use HLG3
is on that footage appled an denoiser?
0:34 what is that on the sky?
yo im in San Diego! Let's meetup and shoot!
Henbu I’ve got two questions, what stabilisation do you add in post to make it perfectly smooth (a gimble can only do so much) and also the light you have on your wall behind your set up, where can I get one
WARP
S-Log2! But HLG is good, too:)
Did you use variable ND filter and I think HLG was much better?
yea i used ND! :)
@@Henbu which one? Great video btw!!
hi, i am not a professional videographer and i wanted to film in automatic mode where the camera decides the best settings. I want it to look the best after grading it so i was wondering what you would suggest in this case? Thank you
In slog2 pp my Sony a7iii iso was locked in 800. How can I reduce it ?
You can’t, that’s the native iso of slog 2 in the a7iii. It can only go up.
Slog2 all day every day
Greetings from India
For those of you who are wondering what picture profile number HLG2 is. The answer is picture profile 10.
well.. u can customize ur numbers tho
@@williamkung9863 yeah you can, but straight out of the box that's what is comes with. It's just a little PSA for those who don't know/don't use picture profiles.
Here's a clue folks: Footage with more banding in the sky is the HLG footage.
Both but slog better a bit
I think HLG3 is better than HLG2
I am just here to say Cine4.
i got a imessage
