I used the Cine4 PP for a long time. I felt like it was just okay, sometimes it didn't give me as much control as I'd wanted. I kind of just ignored people about HLG2. Then I tried it for the first time and I'm insanely impressed. I think it is a very happy medium for people that want to have the ability of something like SLOG, but also have ease of use. HLG is really good. I wish I'd had started using it sooner.
I'm new to video editing (primarily a photographer with my A7iii). Your tutorials have been indispensable for me in learning new techniques and making my videos higher quality. Thanks Henbu.
Great video as always. Would love to see more in-depth tutorials like this!
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE JULY DUDEEEEE
Is there a reason for moving the whole Hue vs Hue curve instead of just changing the part of it that affects the color's hue you want to be changed?
Omg i've searching this type of video and you have made it . Thank you!!!
What a great tutorial thanks for that. I'm going to buy your luts they look great.
Thank you for the GREAT Lesson sennsei!! I have a few questions!
When you make LUTs did you use Lightroom or something?
Also when you made a Cold LUT, how did you change the shadow color without affecting your skin tone?
Where'd you get your long sleeve?
Great video, exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks for the video.HLG2 is the way to go if you want versatility in noise level but I had some issue with some conversation when using bt2020 and workspace.
Hi @Henbu do you use the gamma display assist, and if not, why not?
This was so good. Very well explained. Now I know why my last video looked very blue.
Question: in my Premiere preview the video looked great, good color etc. as It was exporting and once exported it looked like someone dumped a blue layer over it. It’s the first this happened. Any suggestions? Anyone?
Thank you. (Still new at color grading).
Great colour grade breakdown. I shoot with Canon but this still helps!
When you say sharpen in post do you mean using the unsharpen mask in premiere pro?
great content, deserves my subscription
Thanks !
Awesome work !
Great video as always 🙏
grazie molte per i tuoi videotutorial!! una domanda -7 dettaglio lo imposti per il 4k soltanto o anche per 60/120 fps?
Finally man !! Cool thanks
Hey Henbu, thank's for all your work ! Question : I can't afford to buy a HDR screen. I've seen some people using HLOG to sec 709 LUTs converters. Is it worth it? Do HLOG 2 LUTs works fine with HLOG1 or 3 ?
you are really very strong. I just have a question I have a z150 camera from Sony and I have a video clip to shoot in a few days even if the camera is really not compatible to make music clips with it. My question is the following for filming in HLG you would advise me the 2 or the 3? otherwise it would also be necessary to do white balances even if we film in HLG? Thank you in advance for your reply.
HELLO FROM FRANCE
Sir you give very good information
What are the white balances in HLG2?
Hey Henbu, would you use the same exact settings on A7C? Since its basically an A7III in a crop sensor size body..
Hey Henbu! one little question, what´s your keyboard? It´s looks amazing! :D
Henbu u r someone who I see as my photography idoL!!!!!!!!!!!!😃😃😃😃
Keep going🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
so question, do you use HLG 2 for slow motion as well because i remember 1 video you posted saying that you use S log 2 for slow mo
Hey Henbu what ND filter do you use?
Love this profile! good video!
witch microphone your are using? btw thanks great video!
Henbu can you make a video for the best settings to shoot Real-Estate videos ?
What is the highest ISO you can go with HLG2 before it starts to look bad?
Why do you apply your LUT before the color correcting?
Hey bro if I buy the HLG lut pack and want to upgrade to the bundle later, can I just pay the difference?
yasssss, used SLOGs for my first few wedding gigs and it was so bad since it took place inside of a chapel and indoors. My footage came out so noisy and the whole thing almost at a lost. After switching over to HLG, vlogging, weddings, and travel video has been a breeze to work with
Henbu, how does one account for constantly changing exposure when in certain settings? We went into an abandoned high school the other day and found myself getting frustrated when I kept seeing the picture becoming too under or overexposed with HLG2 on my Sony a7iii. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Can you do an updated video, shoot with HLG2 for HDR video and how to color grade in final cut pro?
Great make 👏
Can you tell me what keyboard you have?
When I export the project in HLG, the output gets all over saturated and it's not like what you see during working with the project.
I'm using Premiere Pro 2022. Do you have any tips on how to solve this?
Would recommend auto wb for run and gun like vlogging?
This may be a really stupid question, but when you are purposely over exposing your footage, do you manually change the iso to do this or if you have a auto ISO bracket, can you just use the compensations to set to like +0.7 for it to automatically add a little more ISO?
In M mode changing just ISO works, in all other modes (P, A or S) you should change the exposure.
thank you very much for your videotutorial !! a question -7 detail you set it for the 4k only or even for 60/120 fps? thanks from ITALY I buy your lut for hlg2 very nice
I wanted to ask the same, could you please answer? For higher frame rates, I believe details should be set to 0.
What is the program you use to edit?
Hey Henbu! thanks for the amazing tutorials, helped me step up my game massively.
Do you/could you offer any unedited HLG footage to practice my grading? I wouldn't be using this for any other reason than to learn but at the moment there's no opportunity to go out and get footage as when I leave work it's pitch dark here in the UK!
I'd be happy to pay for this and it's no problem if not but worth asking! :)
If you google it you can find some website that gives you hlg videos to be downloaded.
"How to color grade" -> "How to Use LUTS"
hahahah
Bro, THANK 👏🏽 YOU 👏🏽
I use the same profile and camera to shoot with. I'd love to see your settings and process of exporting to RUclips. I find Premiere unreliable with color grading, thinking of switching to Resolve. Thoughts?
BerlsMcSquirrels I am having some issue with Premiere too! Been dabbling in Resolve a bit with the free version before committing. Definitely a learning curve!
As you say, WB does not have to be perfect, as long as it is close, so anything you think is white or grey will usually do well and is so much better than auto. Rest is ok to correct in post.
nice content!
Do you expose by +1 or +1,7 +2 stops, thank you
I shoot HLG2 for Sony a73, Panasonic GH5 Picture Profile HLG + 1/3 exposure both cameras WB indoors mixed ambient & domestic room @ 4200K outdoors with clear sky 5600K. Clips are ingested to Apple FCPX media browser where they are selected & conformed to Rec 2020. Occasionally A LUT (Free from Panasonic luminary Nick Driftwood) with a (perhaps) minor adjustment to Sat & Contrast or no LUT with minor adjustment from color board. Simple, thats it. Results are stunning. 👍
Thank You!
Hey man, I film basketball with my a7 and I’ve been finding a lot of problems in my footage with a ton of grain.. I really want settings or a picture profile that will remove the grain and create a sharper image I shoot on a 70-200
Max Videos what iso do you shoot them at?
Coming from a Canon background, how would you adjust your exposure compensation and keep it consistent if you were run and gunning in different conditions?
Would you be adjusting the iso? As I just found out that exposure bracketing can only be adjusted if your iso is in auto.
Hlg3/2020 IS made for 10 bits ?
hey bro, whats the difference between HLG2 and 3? why are you on 2? i geniunly wanna know bro. what are the trade offs or are they practicaly the same? thank you.
They're not the same. The roll off in the whites is both different in HLG2 and 3. For all reasona, shoot in HLG2 because it's almost balance in any situation. If you want to brighten a litte bit, use HLG3.
Do you ever plan on getting a monitor like the Ninja V for the 10 bit depth? Im gonna invest in one after trying it out for a series i shot. There was a few shots where i forgot to use the monitor to record and got direct footage from the Sony, and i could tell right away that something was wrong (in post sadly). The footage has a night and day difference. Maybe something you should look in to, i would love to see your reaction / thoughts!
Much love!
Muhamed Delic you cant record 10 bit with the a7iii :D
Sry ment 4.2.2, not 10bit.
Native ISO for HLG2 is 100 (+800) for A7III
so how do you sharper the video?
Unsharpen mask. ruclips.net/video/_YPN1ezNQuU/видео.html
Great video! One question, what do you mean with "clipping" ? You said I'm not clipping so thats good
Jeffrey van der heijden clipping means you begin losing information. When you look at your histogram or color graphs and they’re too high (you can’t see the tip of it anymore) then you begin to clip them. (Ex clipping the highlights means in your brightest parts of the scene or image you are losing information or have lost information because it is bright or you made them too bright. Clipping the shadows means in your shadows you are too dark and begin losing information in the shadows). Avoid clipping in camera saves you in post by having information to work with. Clipping highlights or shadows in camera and they’re, for the most part, unrecoverable.. unless you camera has INCREDIBLE dynamic range.
In some instances clipping is unavoidable. Like when your are shooting a sunset and expose for the sun, more or less your shadows will be extremely dark and you will clip your shadows. In a bright sunny day you are shooting a subject in the shade, you’ll obviously properly expose for your subject and because you’re in the shade you’ll bump up the exposure and begin to clip your highlights. Both unavoidable clipping scenarios which are totally fine, all depends on the subject and the style of look you are going for.
@@bballer151331 Hee Jay thank you for the fast reply
and answer
Jayy_ Swish and to save that by not clipping either when you expose on highlights or you expose to shadows is by getting most of the dynamic range and thats why you shoot on flat profile such as hlg2 to save most of it.
what mic u using? The one listed in ur description is the shotgun mic which i believe is for your shooting.
You mean the one on the desk? That’s a Sure SM-85b
Sebastian Körner the one on ur tshirt while ure doing the review in the video. I believe its a wireless mic?
Have you started editing with proxies yet? I noticed you were at 1/4 res.
but then there would be no metadata. proxies are a pain imo
@@supershadow230 when you have your footage imported. Right click, hit proxies. Choose quick time at medium resolution. Come back to your computer, and you toggle on and off proxies. So while your scrubbing and doing your grading it doesn't lag, and you don't have to edit "blind." I do this with all 4k footage and h265 footage. I can color grade without having to render in to outs.
Wow you shoot with Auto-White Balance?! hrmm maybe camera tech has improved heaps. 10 years ago we were told to always white balance.
interesting insight in using HLG2. But is there a specific reason why u are using HLG2 over HLG3?
HLG3 has a wider dynamic range but gets noisy much easier(best for bright scenes) . HLG1 has great noise reduction but at the cost of dynamic range (best at darker scenes). So HLG2 is kinda the midway, well balanced and probably the most versatile of them.
@@BognarMarci Hello, are you saying HLG3 is best for bright scenes, or HLG2?
your audio is really well dialed lol
Do you know why HLG footage looks darker when they're in premiere pro timeline?
It might be about gamma assist when you recorded, I dont know
@@evenoiix no I think I need to overexpose it a bit (+1)
HLG SHOULD BE SHOOT AT +1EV OR EVEN +2EV
@@SayWhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat thanks buddy
@@SayWhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat no one said that in hlg tutorial. Ever
I don’t get it, whenever i shoot HLG2 the footage always seems to be noisy and the worst of it is in the shadows or lower light - and I’m talking overcast low light! It’s not even bad lighting! I really feel like I’m doing something wrong but I’m using Henbu’s exact settings and keeping my ISO from 100-640 depending on lighting. That doesn’t seem bad enough to cause so much noise 🤷♂️ but 90% of the time I’m having to use NEAT in post to denoise the footage.
I've notice the same thing on my camera too, and it makes me really mad. I almost feel like I'm a fool shooting on iso 800 and gettign a ton of freaking noise. have you found an answer to this?
Just found the answer on this video. ruclips.net/video/AxhRythrdT8/видео.html it's in Spanish with English translation. it worked for me.
I an a6400 and using hlg2 but all of my footage were overexposed even with 00 exposure meter.😭
Ochea Nen it’s probably you need to change it to Rec709 in the software as it’s a HDR profile and looks nuclear when you first bring it in
The thing that no one mention and that I have developed over a period of time is that you will never have enough dynamic range or grading room in 8bit video. You want to use Slog in 8bit? Do proper lighting for the indoor scenes. Simple!
For white balance I just throw something white on the screen so I can use a color dropper later during the edit
You'll lose a good chunk of your colour that way, unless you're dealing with raw video. Better to white balance in camera first.
Could someone tell me why my exposure meter adjusts itself? maybe be a silly question but like in this video I'd like to set it accordingly but everytime I move my camera in a different angle it changes numbers itself, also my exposure compensation wheel doesn't adjust anything, could someone give me some tips? Again, if this is a stupid questions apologies in advance.
If you learned why you are having this problem please tell me
@@guneyyurdakul9197 that’s simply, when you move the camera the light coming into the sensor is not the same. Meaning, if you point it at the light it will tell you what your exposure is at, and once you move it away it’ll change, that is normal. It’s an assist to help you exposure better, whenever you take a snap, look at the meter and aim for 0 on the meter. If you take photos during the day with blown out highlights what I like to do is under expose by a stop because retrieving shadows is much easier than highlights and it can easily be edited in post. Hope this helped!
@@guneyyurdakul9197 also, your exposure compensation wheel probably doesn’t do any changes is because of your camera settings, that is totally okay! As the compensation wheel only works for specific settings and shots.
@@majesticlukas firstly thanks a lot. Btw what do you prefer when you are following a person for example. Do you keeping it in 0.0 or underexpose?
@@guneyyurdakul9197 when I’m following a person I try keep it at zero depending on a day. If before I take a shot the highlights are blown out I under expose because you can’t really fix the highlights after it’s over exposed.
As well, if you are run and fun shooting photos on the streets adjust the settings and keep the camera on so you don’t miss a shot and won’t need to spend a while adjusting the settings 😌
Why HLG2 over HLG or HLG3? Also why not use BT2020 instead of 709.
What is the point, when you start with a privat lut...
HLG2 is not as sharp and SLOG2. I don't know why :(
Nobody pointing out he started grading on the clips them self's after the first one 😂 nice video tho
@@andrethedias He added adjustment layers to have the edits separated from the actual clips but then applied the edits to the clips directly, instead of the adjustment layers. That happens when you move the playhead to a different clip and it automatically selects the clip instead of the adjustment layer. To prevent that it's best to enable track targeting for the track that has the adjustment layers on it and perhaps even disable track targeting for the clips. You toggle that with the buttons on the left of the track (V1, V2, V3... A1, A2, A3...)
Nice video. I started using HLG2 since you mentioned it a while ago and I like it a lot. Random note: Looking at your desk, get a mechanical keyboard!
why my video have alot of noise bruh?? can u explain?
so basically buy your luts or go home
SENSORS IN CAMERA IS 14-16BITS NOT 8. 8BITS ONLY VIDEO.
I'm actually going here cos I want to see you colorgrade from scratch, without the LUTs.
Sony a7iii Is never an 8 bit sensor. Only The video Recording is limited to 8 bit.
Gagga
"No matter how good you are at something, theres always an asian kid better than you"

So this is made backwards in order to promote your Luts... You first should balance the video... LUT is the last ingredient to be added...
2nd comment yeah
Is he out of focus or is it just me?
Yea his hands more in focus than anything
Редактирование цветов на 1/4 качестве проекта🤣
Тупая продажа лутов за 20бачей это называется.
YOu dont need to explain why you not using slog. EVERYBODY with eyes and sony camera know slog SUCKS :) THose who say different-are blind :)
