A few more tips: (1) Use the same gear down the slope as you would use on the same gradient uphill. (2) Use the horn when in doubt- at every corner, turn, hairpin and blind curve. (3) Watch out for loose soil on the edges of the road, especially during monsoon. It may look firm with grass on it. Remember- a firm wet grass surface is also slippery. (4) Never stop on unchartered areas and do not venture into secluded places, river beds etc. as there will be a risk of wild animals, flashfloods etc. (5) Never ever come downhill in neutral or with your engine shut-off. Use lower gears and brake judiciously. (6) Avoid breaking often while coming down from a hill as it can heat up the brakes and may lead to failure of it. (7) PARKING: (i) Watch where you park and always park with your hand brakes pulled up. (ii) As the next step, do not forget to engage your gear - use First Gear if facing uphill and Reverse gear if facing downhill. (iii) Keep your wheels tilted away from the curb if there is one.

One of the commonest problems one encounters in hill stations, is the difficulty in preventing the car from accidental reversing while moving the car forward in steep ascents, particularly in bumper to bumper traffic ( during peak holiday seasons ) . A few tips to get over this problem might have been included. Otherwise a good and well timed video!

Thank you for mentioning the hill decent tips. It's very important to keep the vehicle at 2nd gear on manual or use Paddle Shifters/AMT manual. Using brakes repeatedly is the biggest mistake when driving in Hill station. Great video team MW

Dear @motowagon, In all the videos you are saying that please wear seat belts, which is nice message and so many are following after hearing this. Henceforth in upcoming videos please add this "Please drive in Low Beams." So this will also people follows.

We say that also in most videos. In some we say one thing in some we say all three. The point is we keep making sure to say it one way or the other. Even in this video we have said to avoid high beams unless it's necessary 🙌💚

I just came down from Ooty yesterday in automatic gear vehicle. When vehicle coasted, I just touched the brake once and it would put it back to gear. This was better than using paddle shifters or manual mode.

A quick suggestion for these type of videos, including previous ones, a concise point by point aggregation/categorisation of all the points will be helpful for the viewers to grasp all the info without which It's easy to miss out just with the narration. Thanks for covering up this in detail.
But I experienced two things apart. It would be helpful, if you cover up this as well.
    1. While travelling in Masinagudi, i experienced sudden heavy downpour that created more mist inside car and covered up my whole front glass. Even my AC vent near glass also did not help at that time. So i stopped somehow in a corner, opened up all windows and cleared those mist using paper. That was a nightmare experience I had. Why AC vent near front window was not working at that time?
    2. Got brake shoe smell bcoz of frequent brakes during descent
How can we handle such things efficiently?

Want to add one point for downhill driving in neutral mode,If vehicle is 15 or 20 years old model like jeep etc which have steel drum only,in that you can drive in neutral mode or switch off vehicles too and brakes will work perfectly,, only in new gen vehicles having disc break etc brakes won't work if vehicle is off or IN NEUTRAL POSITON !! so it's better to keep the gear ratio with speed so that downhill can be done without much risk !! Another point s break failure and over heat of radiator may occur,so good to have local drivers on-board to avoid this risky scenarios ,not all hills require this skills,Within ooty locals,Kolli hills air bends etc where road s small and good to hVe clutch control in place without relying on Hand break all the time...😊😊

I drive often on hill roads. Unfortunately most of the people don’t give way to a climbing vehicle. And also many drivers don’t know how to use engine brake. On descending I observe the brake lights of the preceding vehicles are glowing all the way down.

Hi Team, I feel that something missing about the AC operation during hill drive. Please advise about the below concerns.
1.AC can be used in normal mode to maintain the inside temperature or is there any other ways?
2.If we drive with open window then there will be any mist formation will disturb the visibility/windshield?

Nobody listens wen we said these to our friend or a relative personally n they feel hard to change their error hill driving pattern and they feel annoying that we are trying to be superior than them if we say to lower down the gear to have engine braking and not to apply clutch always as there will be more body roll and car roll downs very loosely, Chances of tyre burst.
Today's generation depends on hill hold n hill descend features. A skilled driver never need these.
Only ABS, ESP, EBD, airbags are good enough n suffice for todays car.
Atleast they listen to this MW log n take it up. Keep it up MW.
people believe mostly from RUclips, googling Wikipedia so.. personal trust has gone.

Dear MW, Thanks for nice video. I request you to please post a exclusive video about tyres. A tyre change OEM fitted apollo to Michelin made lot of changes to my steering and breaking control, smooth riding experience. Sudden feel like new car. Please do post a video how a bad tyre would impact suspension, wheel dragging and other issues. When to change a tyre, life of a tyre and selection, Oem tyres doesn’t last long…

❤️💚MW. Kindly answer my doubt below.
It's been 3.5 months since I bought my new Nexon. I kept on asking this question many times to different people but getting variety of answers. Can you please let me know, when can a new car be used for hill driving inorder to maintain a good long term mileage for that new car?. Looking forward for your answer 💚❤️

Very Very useful Video, But I think ONE MAJOR POINT missed, AUDIO SYSTEM operating, most of peoples use the Audio sound & distract the driver also.
