My late partner was a classical musician, and the last 15 years of his life he only played Bach transcriptions to the piano, and Chopin. We had literally dozens of CDs of Bach transcriptions, and "Ziggy" Weissenberg's (as Alexis was known to his friends) was far and away our favorite. His versions of "Wachet Auf, Ruf inst die Schimme" and "Ich Ruf zu Dir" are also on RUclips, and they are glorious. Ziggy Weissenberg played Bach like it was Romantic music, rather than baroque, and he made this stunning music sing.

I used to hear this masterpiece since I was a child, either the interpretation of Weissenberg, either Michelangeli's one. When I started to study this piece on my piano I was inspired by both of those highest interpretations but, obviously, they are out of reach and inimitable...!!!!!

Mais Weissenberg is an absolute master !

Alexis weissenberg is the only one who ended the chaconne correctly with the last chord being d minor instead of the ridiculous Picardy cadence that the others use.
