Combat trained active military currently doing a ridiculous job as display features for the public. It you don't want the public by the horses have the horses stand in a fenced area. Not everyone speaks, reads, or understands English. They are tourists. However, common sense would tell you not to touch the reins. Common sense (which is lacking these days) told me when I was a kid to ask or permission before petting an animal I didn't know. It seems very few, if any, ask to pet the horses.
It is almost funny. When the guards belt out "Make Way!" the crowd thinks they are rude, and yet I've seen guards attempt to be nicer about it and the crowds just ignore them...
It amazes me that these tourists can't even follow the basics of being considerate to the horse and rider. Most people don't even know some of the most important warning signs that a horse is "Irritated"...For instance, if the horses ears are pinned back, that horse should NOT be touched..Any horse that has it's ears pinned back, do not want you near them...A horse can almost hear your heartbeat, and if you are nervous, Oh they know it!
All the. Kings guard are just so gorgeous. They are part of the attraction but tourist should not be allowed to get too close. Horses can become tetchy after being with different people.

I feel this part of the footpath should be fenced off from the public, so you can see but not touch, these are working horses. The Soldiers have areas too they need to march, people just don't seem to understand, I always fear for the horses safety too.
If you're standing there, and the horse tries to bite you, wouldn't you walk away instead of continuing to stand there and egging him on to bite you again?
The real question is, why do people act this way.I think it typifies the standard of life today.Nobody cares a shit about how unpleasant they make life for anyone else.It can only get worse, believe me.

That's what I was thinking. He was itchy. I have never been out of the United States but I would ask permission to take a picture from one of the Officers who are there to keep order because the Guards are actually on duty and are unable to interact with the tourists.
Perhaps bringing apple slices, carrots, and a horse brush would be welcome with verbal permission? Not that I plan to fly to England to visit the guards and the horses. I like horses, but I have no desire to be a part of that crowd. I can see why the horses can't stand people. Too many at times.
