The early Bee Gees were exceptional but different than when they discovered their falsetto voices.

Robin sings with his heart. This song always makes me cry. He reaches the depths of my soul. All he has to do is open his mouth. Listen to country lanes omg. What a song

Love the Bee Gees' early music especially 60's-70's. You are hearing Robin Gibb's voice in this song "I Started A Joke" from 1968. He also sang lead on "Massachusetts", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart", "I Can’t See Nobody", "And The Sun Will Shine" etc. Some of their other early hits were "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "To Love Somebody", "Holiday", "World", "Really & Sincerely", "Words", "The Singer Sang His Song", ""Lonely Days", "Melody Fair", "First Of May", "Give Your Best", "Lamplight" etc.

As mentioned, this was Robin's "signature" song. His son (Robin-John or RJ) said "When he passed away we went out, they took the equipment away and we came back in, I picked up my phone and found "I Started a Joke" on RUclips and played it. I put the phone on his chest and that was the first time I broke down. I knew that song and its lyrics were perfect for that moment. That song will always have new meaning to me now". (Wikipedia)

For me, these are the true (early) BeeGees. Well tempered voices and fine harmonies accompanied by meaningful lyrics, a stark contrast to the screeching singing in their Disco-time.
'Massachusettes', 'New York Mining Desaster', 'Words' and 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' - classics

Robin is mainly credited as the writer of this song.To me it is about how we and others perceive ourselves. He was an admitted loner and often felt misunderstood. The video with fun house mirrors and weird human cutouts may represent, do people see us as we really are or how we seem to be? Often things we do or say are totally misrepresented and we wish we could take them back. We toss and turn and "fall out of bed" over things we said. Each of the brothers' voices are great. Robin said he sang with his heart. His vibrato and soul were totally unique. I suggest "Bodyguard" and "Fallen Angel" for different voices of Robin. Mo was terrific especially in C/W like "Hold her in your hand". Congrats on your subscribers.

Lovely Robin ❤. I Will is a great one, Man in the middle, Above and beyond. There are so many it’s hard to choose. Don’t think there’s a bad one .

This was Robin's favorite song and he wanted it played at his funeral and it was. Both Robin and Berry were great lead singers. Mo considered himself their filler. He said he could listen to Robin and Berry and would fit his voice right in the middle where it completed them. He actually, has a song called Man In the Middle because he always thought of himself that way. He kept the group together for the most part because Berry and Rober were hotheads and it took Robin to settle them down.

My favorite Gibb brother is the one singing at the moment - lol. Seriously, I'm a Robin fan, but I love Barry and Mo too. Mostly I just love the way they all fit together. Best music ever! If you want to hear a Robin vocal that will blow your mind try "I've Got to Learn" an upbeat tune from the early days.

Try listening to their 1974 Concert in Melbourne, Australia. Robin lead or soloed in a lot of the ballad songs then prior to Barry finding his reinforced falsetto voice. I love that particular concert for their humour and Robin. It was the time of their Mr. Natural Album.
