The first song was called "New York Mining Disaster". The reason for those awesome, unmatched harmonies is because they are brothers and started singing together when the twins were only 6. The next dee dee song was called "Holiday". Then "Too Much Heaven", next "Heartbreaker" written by the brothers sung by Diane Warwick her biggest selling single ever, then "Islands in the Stream" written by the brothers sung by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers turned out to be the biggest selling country song in history. "Run to Me" written by Robin, the brother with the hat is Maurice (Mo) the clown, Robin's twin brother. Lastly, the "World is Round". If you want to hear Maurice sing a solo listen to "Closer than Close" or "Man in the Middle".

The Bee Gees were brothers - Barry (long hair and beard), Robin (clean shaven, the one with the gorgeous vibrato voice) and Maurice (pronounced like Morris - the guy with the hat) Gibb. A good concert video that Maurice sings lead on is 'Closer than Close' and another is 'Man in the Middle'. Maurice's voice was not as powerful as Barry's or as unique as Robin's - but he was the one most responsible for their amazing blended harmonies. He always knew exactly where to best place himself vocally.

The bee gees are true geniuses, who suffered harassment, demolition, and censorship by the musical establishment and were marked with a lacerating stigma, while other groups and artists well regarded and promoted by the establishment took all the praise. Many have criticized the Gibb brothers for singing falsetto and I ask... and what is the problem with that?, does singing with falsetto cancel out their perfect harmonies, the finesse of their compositions, their very careful productions of their own and for others?, their unbeatable melodies. To criticize them for this only denotes prejudice and enormous ignorance. Other artists have sung with falsetto but it seems that if Prince, Freddie Mercury does it (he resorted to falsetto in some of Queen's songs) or others it is fine, but if the Bee Gees create a style and with falsetto they achieve a greater versatility of their voices and their melodies this should be criticized by some musical supremacists. I encourage you to continue with the reactions to Bee Gees songs. This group has a huge number of fans around the world and you only have to take a look at the channels that react to them to see the number of views of their videos. RUclipsrs are not stupid and know which groups you need to react to in order to get likes and subscriptions. Thank you.

The first song "NY Mining Disaster" was written a year after a mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales where over 100 school children as well as some adults died. The lights went out in the recording studio and it made them think what it would be like to be trapped in a mine.
I saw your eyebrows raise at Robin's short solo in that song. His voice was very unique with a beautiful rare vibrato. The second song is "Holiday".
All of the brothers had a terrific sense of humour and people said if they failed at music they could have been comedians. Maurice's (Morris) humour was "family friendly" and Barry said "Robin was the funniest man he ever knew" but more cerebral.
Barry (guitar) was the oldest brother and started the group, Maurice (the hat guy) and Robin, without the beard, were fraternal twins. They sang together since the twins were 6 and Barry 9. All three brothers wrote songs. Usually Barry and Robin wrote the lyrics and melodies and often Maurice as well. Maurice was a master musician on several instruments and he was the guy who put their songs to music....although none of them could read or write music! Maurice also sang lead but not in this medley. Robin often sang lead. Barry sang lead mostly in the "disco" era. Although each had different voices, their genetic tone being brothers was very special. Each brother was vital to the group.

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx 8 месяцев назад +1

The disaster in Aberfan was not in the mine itself, but rather caused by inept management of the coal slag tip above the village.
After a significant rainfall the slag turned partially into a slurry and subsided down hill toward the village, completely burying a row of houses on the outskirts, and most notably the junior school which was in session that day.
If anything it's more likely that they were writing about the people buried by the slag (over 20 adults and 100 children included), and changed it to a mining disaster to save aggravating a very sore issue.

After that Robin and Barry went their separate ways but still recorded. Robin even wrote a philharmonic piece "The Titanic Requiem" in 2011/12 which was played by the National Philharmonic, and an LP released in 2014 after he died in 2012. "Too Much Heaven" is the song you reacted to that Dominique found irritating because they sung it in soprano! lol! Glad you got to hear it again in the lower register so you could appreciate how beautiful it is.

    I absolutely love Maurice...he's so funny 💔 R.I.P.
    Barry (guitar) is the oldest.
Robin & Maurice (hat & beard) are fraternal twins with Robin being older.
Let's not forget the younger sibling Andy. Who went solo.
So sad that Barry is the only living brother of this bunch of so talented men.

The Bee Gees could probably be evaluated by what they did each decade. As I recall, Mr. Jones was about a mining disaster in England. Every decade and quite a few Bee Gees songs worth listening to

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988.
The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born.
All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically.
Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced).
From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too ruclips.net/video/7niXSh7vWRI/видео.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: ruclips.net/video/WH_j90fCIk4/видео.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out ruclips.net/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/видео.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: ruclips.net/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/видео.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you ruclips.net/video/CA4CInDnTk8/видео.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: ruclips.net/video/162GlAEpfrY/видео.html.
Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on ruclips.net/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/видео.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing ruclips.net/video/_6MR-E_Qzz0/видео.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

that song 'Island in the stream' you recognized but couldn't place the singers that sang it, was Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. . . do you guys know the Bee Gees are brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb ...hence the name (Bee Gees = Brothers Gibb) which helps when it comes to harmonizing just like if you made a song by yourself, if you added your own harmony singing in a different pitch and laced it all together it would sound better than someone else harmonizing, provided you could sing a note of course 😅

The name Bee Gees comes from the initial letters B and G from B ill G Goode, B ill G ates, B arbra G ibb, B arry G ibb and b rothers G ibb. Radio-presenter jockey Bill Gates named the group the "BGs" (later changed to "Bee Gees") after his, Goode's and Barrys and Barbras Gibb's initials. The name was not specifically a reference to "Brothers Gibb", despite popular belief.

True! Without a doubt. The 1989 concert is my favorite!! Youth has its advantages, but imo all of their voices and vocal strengths were at their peak in their 30’s and 40’s. Teens and 20’s, and 50’s on were great, but clearly strongest in 30’s and 40’s.
