Like, they really ramped up the interactivity and "your choices affect the story" from Until Dawn. Spoilers below for those who haven’t finished watching: I love how their silence bit toward the beginning of the game (25:50) actually saved someone’s life. If Julia had not stayed silent and taken the beer she would have died to the bends no matter what
I love how this horror game lets you die in the stupidest way possible, and its all your fault. You're not screaming at the screen because the character did something dumb it a cutscene, you're either sitting there horrified that you got all the way through the game and then she died because you didn't take the bends seriously, or you're sitting there laughing at how stupid this death was after surviving everything else.
7:03 I'm so sorry the simultaneous chorus of "YOU FAILED" into the immediate "ILL KILL YOU" is so, SO real?????? I feel like that's an exact interaction I've had with my sister before 😂
[No Spoilers] This game is actually inspired by a real life mystery, the Lost Ourang Medan. It's a US warship stationed in the Asia during the Cold War. It was leaving the port of Manchuria before being lost in a storm and all contact ceased. I believe all reports state a last panicked radio broadcast was all that's left of the vessel before it went completely off the grid. The cargo is confidential and many speculate as to what it is. It's a lesser known conspiracy but still a solid classic.
!spoilers for the video! i only saw RT’s POV for this stream, so seeing him unknowingly shoot Sophie 100 times in a locker knowing that he admits to it later was so funny 😭😭😭
The premise of the game was inspired by the real-life WW2 ship Ourang Medan, whose crew did actually die under unknown circumstances - hence the WW2 flashback at the beginning that seems unrelated for those who don't understand the context.
the medan here comes from the mysterious legend of a ship whose crew all died in unknown circumstances and the ship itself was lost, it's basically the name of the ship "ourang medan/ orang medan" which was a dutch east indies ship. so it's named after the place medan but not set in medan, not did it set anywhere in indonesia since the pirates are french-african
It's so funny that I was just rewatching Markiplier's playthrough where he said a lot of the issues would be fixed with multiplayer, only to watch this playthrough where they think single-player is better 😂😂.
Man of Medan has a very dynamic and branching story, but unfortunately has the massive downside that the characters suck. Even if you liked some of them (I did), you have to admit that they are all completely stock.
They're all jerks, except the captain! She's just trying to do her job, and her passengers disrespect a grave while also disturbing a crime scene. They have redeeming qualities but the fact none of them seem to care about the dead completely ruins any chance I had to care about them.
"why did thing that happened at the end happen that way" - well you did uh Uncover government warcrimes. Note - if you get that ending but told them what ship you're on beforehand the military shoots you. But since they only knew afterwards, they jailed you so you can never tell anyone.
I didn't see the full game beyond this video. Were there actual government war crimes described? Merely researching and producing a chemical weapon like that wasn't illegal at the time, and either way it's really weird that the writers thought that the US would go to such lengths to cover up something like that from most of a century ago. Like, maybe if it was a recent event, but any potential war crimes would have been done during World War 2.
@@an_asp Ya, it was a spec-ops unit using a specialized chemical weapon (very much NOT allowed by the geneva conventions) during WW2. But I do agree, putting that much effort into such a coverup is silly - especially when the U.S. has admitted to doing oh so much worse.
Important note is that the ship also went missing during the Cold War, not WW2. So producing/testing chemical weapons with the intent to use them was very illegal by that point.
I don't really get why they jail/shoot them, though. Like, they have no evidence of anything and could probably just be released, and anything they claim will hold as much weight as conspiracy theorists on forum boards.
Some random app on my phone was open making constant sparkly magic type sound effects, and i thought it was part of the video, and Dan had just added it in for ambiance.
I love the theme of an old ghost ship stuck in time. Even without horror id have fun just exploring an old ship even if there were old bodies still there

When my mom and I played this game together we ended up getting Brad killed and we didn't realize how it happened until we looked it up after the end because the gameplay was so misleading and confusing.
@@sinisterelmo162 So like, the game is significantly more difficult if you're playing it single player or local co-op because during the hallucination scenes you don't get to see the other perspective. So when Fliss encountered Brad who she saw as a creepy skeleton in a hood, we had no way of knowing that was Brad. We also had a weapon in this instance and used the qte to kill Brad with it. We had gotten a premonition early on warning us about a hooded figure but literally all we saw of that was a hooded figure with no context so of course the logical video game thing to think is that it's warning us not to be killed by the creepy hooded figure. Then later on it just suddenly cut back to Brad lying dead on the floor and we had no idea why he was suddenly dead until we looked it up after the game.
Thinking about the "not breathing when the character is underwater" Me and my sister when we where little did that to see who could actually survive the situation the character was in
I unironically really enjoyed all of the dark anthology games. Like its easy to say that a lot of the writing is a little tacky. But if u play it with friends and enjoy it for what it is, it can be a really enjoyable experience. And if u play it late at night it can actually be kinda scary
the way that the narrator strictly said that "you two should work together" while the game keep showing random "X/Y failed" seems like it's trying to antagonize the players against eachother so the two players suspect eachother. though in this case these two clowns somehow failed that
it's hilarious that both sophie and dan quite literally noticed the game is antagonizing them against eachother and still chose to actually work together just for the bit lmao
I know a lot of people hate this game for the twist, but I like it! The main threat is the people, not the scary monsters lurking around. I don't like Until Dawn just because of the specific monsters they use, and I absolutely despise Little Hope for none of it being real. Haven't played House of Ashes, but I think the monsters are cool.
Personally I really liked Little Hope, but I am also a sucker for plot twists. Definitely seconding House of Ashes as the best in the series, though. That game is great.

Also I love that she held back on using the new youtube phrases until they actually said them in the video. That was really thoughtful! Chloe has an amazing eye for detail
Listen, I will forever be the biggest defender of these games, but even I can't stand this one. I'm certainly not bored when I play it. This game is hilarious. But it's such a nothing burger of a game. At least the other games in the series have a narrative to follow. I watched a video essay from a guy named Ratat (his essays are excellent btw, go watch them), and he described this game as more of a theme park ride than an actual narrative. I couldn't agree more.
I can defend this one, it's Devil In Me I can't defend. It was massively disappointing, for the villain, location, characters and just the amount of slow wall shimmying in the game
I feel like that for a lot of entertainment. Most of them don't really say anything and is just about fun, which makes sense. For video games, since it's such a new medium and because it combines different mediums, we start to expect it be art like music and writing, and it sometimes is, but it's still mostly for entertainment.

@@JohnJohnson-sc7hn yeah, but apparently it was bugged when the game first came out to have you always fail the QTE that happens because of that choice to leave.
I think the reason they were imprisoned at the end is that the military got ahold of them and didn't want them telling anyone about the weaponized hallucinogens aboard the shipwreck.
this and most of the dark pictures games just give me hope for later on developers using these fumbles as inspiration for better games and stories. i've scared myself awake with my ideas for a story based on this concept and it's literally just the first 20min of the game but expanded upon differently. the best parts of this game are the beginning, making dumb choices for the laughs, and fliss. that last one may just be personal bias but i love fliss and like many of their characters she'd be such an amazing "final girl" type if they expanded on her or the others even slightly. i also think they could have done WAY more with her anger about tourists in her home area making immensely stupid and illegal decisions and not just going "well you have an illegal boat license so let's call it square". WHY does she have that illegal license? probably because it pays some damn good money to get rich idiots out on a boat and most of em aren't this dumb. i think she's young and inexperienced with giving her customers hard No's but she's clearly making her best effort to follow maritime law in the beginning while they do their stupid plane tamper swim. justice for fliss, man
So I believe the reason for the ending is this: Spoiler spoiler spoiler The kids were rescued by what appeared to be US military. Said US military does not want any word about what was found/what happened on that ship to get out, so the kids now get to enjoy the facilities of some unlisted black site prison for the rest of their possibly short lives.
These games are hilarious on their own to me, but the multiplayer is the best form of chaos. The constant juxtaposition between one of you going through it and the other calmly walking along made me laugh every time. Won't spoil it but the story had potential, the characters just kinda sucked. The multiplayer had a lot of potential too, but the state it's in seems broken. If they implemented a better way for sharing information when characters were together the way you two did, that'd be cool too. Like, the characters had a bit of dialogue about it, but they never really got into any details. The item passing was a good start in that direction for sure.

The other game they made about the summer camp is probably one of the worst and funniest~
Until dawn was pretty good, the rest are funny bad though. That I agree with you on.
House of Ashes was fun
Absolutely. House of Ashes and Until Dawn are actually really good, and the rest are fun to play drunk or with friends (or both)
everyone losing their shit because dan kept walking around during the proposal scene was absolutely hysterical. Reason number one why interactive games can be so fun.

Chloe made this work so well
Not spoiling (at least not intending to) but reading up about the endings of this game is bizarre, like... There's a lot of minor choices affecting things that I wasn't expecting? Like, they really ramped up the interactivity and "your choices affect the story" from Until Dawn. I mean, UD's still way better, but you can tell they put a lot of effort into planning the possible endings (and the combinations - who lives/dies and the reactions at the end)
The ship can flood, catch on fire and you can get gunned down by the military. Theres a shocking amount of important choices.
Spoilers below for those who haven’t finished watching:
I love how their silence bit toward the beginning of the game (25:50) actually saved someone’s life. If Julia had not stayed silent and taken the beer she would have died to the bends no matter what
Damn you beat me to it
I love how this horror game lets you die in the stupidest way possible, and its all your fault. You're not screaming at the screen because the character did something dumb it a cutscene, you're either sitting there horrified that you got all the way through the game and then she died because you didn't take the bends seriously, or you're sitting there laughing at how stupid this death was after surviving everything else.
I got the boat driver killed at the last possible opportunity, because I somehow forgot that the monsters were just hallucinations

This game is actually inspired by a real life mystery, the Lost Ourang Medan.
75 minutes in, I'm starting to think the Medan in the game's title has nothing to do with the city Medan, Indonesia.
The "we are going to say nothing" bit was both hilarious and infuriating in equal parts. I *youtube* that part so much
I can't wait for this new Man of Clickbait era from RTGame and mscupcakes

Man of Medan has a very dynamic and branching story, but unfortunately has the massive downside that the characters suck. Even if you liked some of them (I did), you have to admit that they are all completely stock.
They do, games get better with each entry, (except The Devil In Me, that was massively dissapointing)
They're all jerks, except the captain! She's just trying to do her job, and her passengers disrespect a grave while also disturbing a crime scene. They have redeeming qualities but the fact none of them seem to care about the dead completely ruins any chance I had to care about them.
@@iAmPimmiCueThat one definitely seemed like it was a bit rushed which was surprising because it didn’t seem like it was going to be bad.
"why did thing that happened at the end happen that way" - well you did uh
Uncover government warcrimes.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
The problem I have with this game, once you figure out the twist it's really hard to mess up and get people killed
I didn't think these games could get any more ridiculous than they already are, but somehow the "say nothing" reaction proved me wrong.
Knowing before hand how janky this game is makes me really look forward to Dan's self inflicted suffering
I love the theme of an old ghost ship stuck in time. Even without horror id have fun just exploring an old ship even if there were old bodies still there
Fun fact: I applied for work experience at the developers shortly prior to this game being announced. I was rejected because they feared I would leak/spoil things. And they’re damn right - I would’ve warned yall if I saw this coming lmao
oh my god i skipped to the end of the video and didnt notice so i thought the game was like 10 minutes long LMAO
Drinking challenge: Take a shot everything RT says “I think I know what’s going on here”
Bonus shots: Whenever RT chooses to run away as a character after saying the above phrase.
Alex proposing to Julia and Sophie saying nothing will make me laugh every single time.
The only mistake they made somehow was breaking the cap 😂
Tell Chloe she did an amazing job editing this one! Having both perspectives was great!
When my mom and I played this game together we ended up getting Brad killed and we didn't realize how it happened until we looked it up after the end because the gameplay was so misleading and confusing.
How'd he die?
I was about to comment something, then Dan grabbed me by the scalp and dragged me into the hallway, throwing me down the spiral stairs.
omg same 😊 😊 😊
You know its a good vid when within the first second you get cracked
Why does RT stumble into the no deaths play through of all these games first time 😂
1:22:43 hey that's me! (And yes im actually from medan)
I love that they shot each other and didn’t tell each other
On more than one occasion, the loud "RUclips" censor actually jumpscared me.
They used to call him Joe back in college. Joe King.
I liked the part where RT as Joe did crack with Darth Maul
57:27 “this is kylo ren and i am watching this on… youtube” made me choke on my drink
the way that the narrator strictly said that "you two should work together" while the game keep showing random "X/Y failed" seems like it's trying to antagonize the players against eachother so the two players suspect eachother. though in this case these two clowns somehow failed that
it's hilarious that both sophie and dan quite literally noticed the game is antagonizing them against eachother and still chose to actually work together just for the bit lmao
DARK PICTURES!!!! I watched so many late-night vods of these series because they were unbelievably funny. Im so excited they're playing this together
I know a lot of people hate this game for the twist, but I like it! The main threat is the people, not the scary monsters lurking around. I don't like Until Dawn just because of the specific monsters they use, and I absolutely despise Little Hope for none of it being real. Haven't played House of Ashes, but I think the monsters are cool.
i thought house of ashes was the best entry in the seried! id definitely give it a try
Personally I really liked Little Hope, but I am also a sucker for plot twists.
Definitely seconding House of Ashes as the best in the series, though. That game is great.
Chloe kicked youtube with the editing in this video! I had stopped to go watch the full stream vod because I was having so much fun at all the silence jokes and wanted to see all the content, but I couldn't handle not having both perspectives to see what was going on so I came back to enjoy Chloe's work. Also I love that she held back on using the new youtube phrases until they actually said them in the video. That was really thoughtful! Chloe has an amazing eye for detail
"mscupcakes... We need to cook."
the dead people in the beginning just look so little like actual corpses it‘s honestly somewhat impressive
I remember playing this game with my friend and getting permanently soft locked right before we got on the main boat
How’d you guys do that 😭
Pirates ram them and then demand reparations.
Connor: “I’M GONNA THROW MONEY AT ‘EM!”
I'll defend this one over Little Hope. At least the characters are actually in danger.
@@genericname2747 at least Little Hope has something to say. Whether it's about our world or its characters. This game doesn't have anything other than a thematically appropriate scene for Conrad.
@@phasism7332I honestly don’t even know what Little Hope has to say other than PTSD is a bitch, none of the games really feel like any of them have anything to say and it’s just a rollercoaster to infer stuff from
Doesn’t make them any less funny when you play or watch them, alone or with friends
Despite everything, no one died don't know how you did it since every other youtuber I watched at least lost someone and I felt like you picked some of the worst choices you could pick but good job👍
I know a good chunk loose Conrad during first pirate altercation because the take the boat and run option will just completely kill him no matter what
@@metronicmagician1816It's possible for him to survive and come back with the coast guard at the end
@@JohnJohnson-sc7hn yeah, but apparently it was bugged when the game first came out to have you always fail the QTE that happens because of that choice to leave.
10:45 Glorious Curator introduction perfectly timed to Wii Sports theme song
The game itself seems like nothing special but RT and Mscupcakes really make it engaging and fun
I think the reason they were imprisoned at the end is that the military got ahold of them and didn't want them telling anyone about the weaponized hallucinogens aboard the shipwreck.
21:31 this is absolutely a thing i do. books, movies, anything, i try to hold my breath with the characters
Yeah same!
this and most of the dark pictures games just give me hope for later on developers using these fumbles as inspiration for better games and stories. i've scared myself awake with my ideas for a story based on this concept and it's literally just the first 20min of the game but expanded upon differently. the best parts of this game are the beginning, making dumb choices for the laughs, and fliss.
that last one may just be personal bias but i love fliss and like many of their characters she'd be such an amazing "final girl" type if they expanded on her or the others even slightly. i also think they could have done WAY more with her anger about tourists in her home area making immensely stupid and illegal decisions and not just going "well you have an illegal boat license so let's call it square". WHY does she have that illegal license? probably because it pays some damn good money to get rich idiots out on a boat and most of em aren't this dumb. i think she's young and inexperienced with giving her customers hard No's but she's clearly making her best effort to follow maritime law in the beginning while they do their stupid plane tamper swim. justice for fliss, man
So I believe the reason for the ending is this:
Spoiler

The kids were rescued by what appeared to be US military. Said US military does not want any word about what was found/what happened on that ship to get out, so the kids now get to enjoy the facilities of some unlisted black site prison for the rest of their possibly short lives.

God I love these collab videos
I won’t lie: I did not expect Iceman to be in this game
Spoilers:
You know, being only like two quick time events away from the golden ending isnt bad.
RT I love when you do videos this long instead of 10 part videos like any other youtuber would do. im really sick atm and running out of content to watch, this is an hour and a half that ill be distracted from my illness
11:18 NOT THE JERMA AA EEE OO BIT AGAIN

can someone explain why the game keeps telling them that the other person keeps failing even when they literally aren't doing anything?
probably because they aren't doing anything
it's weird, but that seems to be it
Apparently it's to make the players not trust eachother, since the game is about your perception being wrong
I love watching RT play these story based horror games. I regularly rewatch the Until Dawn video and I even liked watching his video on The Quarry. I’m so excited to watch this one too
What is it with Supermassive Games always having this horribly uncanny valley guy who talks about consequences while the camera zooms uncomfortably close onto his face??
