What do you think of small children getting bunnies? Comment below!

    • @SiimplyHazel
      @SiimplyHazel 6 месяцев назад +29

I think it’s a terrible idea, even if the child can be trusted they will probably grow out of the bunny and want a dog or something, and the bunny will just get dumped
Edit: it’s only a good idea if they are willing to take care of a bunny

I think there should be a certain age for a kid to own a rabbit and I think it’s from high school age, but I think that children will mistreat that rabbit and ignore it and not feed it water because they’re busy doing kids stuff and not taking care of the rabbit I personally think that we should go to her page and talk to her about rescues and do more research as a bunny owners. We should reach out and talk to Savannah about it and try to help and educate them on how to own a bunny and rabbits and what to do and not what to do.

This story is sickening. I absolutely hate the way rabbits are treated around Easter. Rabbits are intelligent animals with needs and feelings, not a cute toy to buy your kid who isn't even old enough to understand how to respect an animal's boundaries. Ugh, I hate people so much sometimes...
I do have to split with Lorelei on entirely ignoring Easter in regards to rabbits. I've had rabbits for around 13 years and I love them so much. I like to spoil them a bit on Easter to kind of celebrate that they're here with me living a good life. I wish all bunnies were given a chance at the kind of life my bunnies or Lennon or Cinnabun live...

A lot of people underestimate just how much work goes into owning and caring for a pet ANY PET, whether it’s a cat, a dog, a bunny, a fish, a turtle.
It’s a major financial commitment first of all and not many people are willing to do that to maintain their pet’s health. I get it Vets are expensive especially if you don’t have insurance, but when you adopt an animal you have to do everything. I mean my baby boy my fluffy kitty Bigfoot was diagnosed with early onset kidney disease. I spend now every two months over 700 dollars in bills for his new prescription diet wet and dry, his prescribed pills, and his monthly wellness check blood work and urine tests to monitor his condition. So many people have told me that they wouldn’t have even bothered because of how much money it is. They’d let their cat die or surrender it to a shelter. I mean!!! Seriously, you adopt an animal you are responsible for it. It’s not just feeding it or petting it every once in a while or buying it one toy or taking it to the vet maybe once or twice it’s whole life, it’s so much more.
My own family thinks all I’m doing for my cat is ridiculous as “it’s just a cat” well he’s not just a cat, he’s a creature I took on the responsibility to care for. His condition was diagnosed and discovered early so he has a chance to live comfortably for years if I am willing to put in the physical and financial effort into helping him. I cant let him just waste away!
Side note: I personally don’t believe in getting a child a pet if they’re too young. Like middle school age when they can start taking care of it with your help (maybe not financially) but helping walk or clean up after it or bathing the pet if applicable not just playing or feeding but the hard stuff too, and it won’t just be a thing to play with or love but then dump for the next best thing as that’s what children do when they’re at a young age. There is so much research as to what pets also are appropriate for certain age groups.

That would be a great video maybe a collaboration - will benefit both of your channels and most of all for the good of the bunnies- a video of you meeting up with labrants and helping them create an awesome bunny habitat for their new furbabys. I think its always best not to pre-judge and to offer help and resources. Most people DO love their animals and DO want to to whats best for them, just might not know that they are missing information on how to provide better care and people can become defensive when they feel judged, especially on sensitive topics like this- it becomes sensitive because people DONT want to feel like they are hurting their animal or not giving them what they need. Offering help without judgement is the way to go . I would love to see it if you guys ever do meet up and do a video.

It'd stop a lot of parents from buying their kids bunnies for Easter and the bunny being neglected within 2 or 3 months. Just spit balling here.

According to Discovery News, since ancient times, eggs and rabbits have been a symbol of fertility, while spring has been a symbol of rebirth. So, even though rabbits don't lay eggs, the association of these symbols was almost natural. So its basically, humans are supposed to be honor fertility, not bunnies. Also, it's a pagan holiday.

I’m not sure if he actually ran away or if they let him loose, but they didn’t find him. I hope wherever he is, he has a loving home in the pen they had those bunnies in was too small some rabbits and small spaces and the next thing I worry about is those rabbits are the same gender they need to be fixed so there’s no fight between them and if they’re not the same gender and they’re a boy and a girl in there they have baby bunnies so that’s another reason why they need to be fixed

Me to! I am 10 and I have a bunny named Muffin, Right now he is in a 4 x 2 Nic grid cage pen thingy it’s a big 2 story cage that dose have Nic grids on the top because my cat used to have access to my bunny but she doesn’t anymore but when she did I didn’t want her to be able to touch him, I wanted a ex pen but it just didn’t work for my living situation, anyways he is gonna be free roamed in my room once he is fully litter trained, and personally, I think I am a good bunmom, he always has alfalfa hay (as he is under 6 months), he gets 1/4 cup of young rabbit oxbow pellets every morning and half of a oxbow vitamin C tab, he only gets ONE Full oxbow Small rewards treat a day, I typically will break those into smaller pieces so I can use them more wisely then just giving the full treat, he gets a good amount of free roam time in my bedroom I’m not sure about the exact amount cuz it differs from day to day, he has 2 available hides in his cage but he prefers just a hidden corner, he also has a available hide in my bedroom for when he is hopping around, I clean his litter box either every other day or every day I’m still figuring out what routine works for us, and he has many available chews, sometimes I make some for him, but I also but I also buy some, he is a little skittish but once he gets to know you he opens up more,so really, I think it depends about the age, and how serious the child is about the rabbit, like are they gonna take their time to clean the rabbits space, or clean the litter box, or litter train them, or even just provide daily social interaction with the bunny without terrifying it, thanks for reading! Have a great Rest of your Day and Stay Hoppy!

By now, the bunny is almost 4 years old and happily hops in our living room. We all wish there could at least another 4 years for her to be with us. Little kids can understand and follow rules. And yes, I repeated soooo many times. Btw I consider that's also a good lesson for kids: true love comes with respect and understanding.

I predict - and I pray that I am wrong - these bunnies (who look full grown to me) will live in a cute little "bunny hutch", most likely outside, and once the "new" wears off this busy family will all but forget about their sweet rabbits. They might even forget to feed and provide water for them (praying that does not happen). Lorelei, it would be fantastic if the LaBrant family would invite you to come to their home and teach them proper bunny care and how to give those buns their best lives! 🐰💕🐰

As influencers, it’s my personal opinion that it’s the family’s responsibility to do research on how to ethically acquire a pet (any pet), as well as how to properly care for the pet. It’s obvious they have not done this. Savanna would have to be living under a rock to not know this these days. Shameful. Maybe with enough pressure from social media they’ll straighten up. Maybe we all tag these ppl in this video. I don’t have high hopes either. Thank you for making this video.

It's always a good idea to do a lot of research on how to look after bunnies or any pets, with the rest of your family together, "before" getting a pet. That's what we did. Parents are better to be on top and be the main care givers. Children can learn but they need to have right and enough information provided to them from parents.

I purchased the hop litter box and have been using it for about three weeks and it has literally changed my life! It makes for such a quick cleanup and resupply. I take the top off, put a garbage liner on the pan then a paper bag or a newspaper, and then the lavender bedding from a small pet select. I only have to put it really on the 3/4 of the pan because the hay part takes up the other side. Also, I have found that one of my rabbits likes to jump on top of the litter box and eat the hay from the top! I have three bunnies free roam so They can literally all three be eating hay at the same time two in the litter box and one on top. It’s harmonious!!! My only suggestion would be that the panel on the top that pops off for access clip in a little tighter. Especially because my one von likes to jump up on there it’s not as a secure fit as I think it could be, other than that, it’s been an absolute dream! I can’t believe I spent that much on a litter box and having had it now I can’t believe I wouldn’t.

Hopefully that family learns the right way to take care of them or someone reaches out to them. With that big of a channel, they'd be great influencers on the right way to take care of them. I hope all of the bunnies will be okay this Easter.

I got my bunny from a neighbor who had 8 bunnies and had to move to a small camper. Hunny Bunny was around 2 years old and was allowed to run around and chew on furniture and baseboards and I kept her in a cage at first because she was scared. As we developed a relationship I was able to potty pad train her and give her a variety of healthy food and treats and all is well. I am 71yo and I have had her for 3 years now. I would NOT recommend that young children have a rabbit as a pet.
    1. They're a lot of work.
    2. They require a regular routine and
    3. They're fragile animals ❤ I love my baby so much and she is a very good companion for me. She doesn't bark and I don't have to take her for walks or let her outside to go potty. ❤😊❤

Hello. Never heard of TheLeBrant Family, and they might not be good pet owners. They'll probably give up the bunnies, if they're the typical influencer family doing impulsive things for views. BUT... I do feel like I should voice other perspectives to your points here.
    1. Just because they get bunnies on Easter doesn't mean they are going to abandon them.
    2. Considering they sound like novice pet owners, much less a less common pet like bunnies (when compared to dogs/cats), they might not even have known adoption is an option, or how to do so.
    3. Assuming the children are going to hurt bunnies because they're... children? I have met older people who have stepped on their dogs/cats. Pets can always receive an accident, no matter the owner or habitat. Even human infants can receive an accident, which has been horrifying for many parents.
    4. Bunnies outside: I had never let my bunny outside like that, but I see videos of other people doing it. Yes, it can seem risky behavior, but going outside in general is even for humans. I have always wondered if my rabbit would have been happier being able to play outside.

I have been a subscriber of yours for years, I am from Russia. Here, the bunny situation is much worse, despite a great growing bunny community. Unfortunately there will always be either oblivious idiots or people who are literally arent able to feel sympathy for animals. This is either comes from high ignorance and self sense of importance or/and lack of education on behalf of animal world and pet care. What you do is incredibly important, i believe your reviews are what is helping solving part of the problem. However there always be people like this and I grew to accept that. This is why we globally need pet laws to help. Educational videos, books and on and on made by our loving comunity. Frankly I am nobody, but I am thinking of making a cartoon or book about bunnies for russian audience. At least when I ll feel ready because my bunny unfortunately passed away last spring from dental problems. I was also away, and not with her, so I felt like a biggest failure as an owner. Back then I also learned that pet graveyards are forbidden in russia. It's literally illegal. I mean i know the country is inhuman but they keep finding ways to surprise me.

As a person who rescues bunnies and has seen how horrible these poor creatures can often have it I do not think bunnies are a good choice for small children or for people who don’t have the time and commitment to properly care for them. They are great pets for the right person however most people don’t have a clue what these creatures are really about.

I'm a bunny owner for 10 years now. The bunny I have now is 8 years old and is doing great. I find this video odd. I've been following you for years now and i loved your content with lennon but this video is crazy and is looking for views. As a bunny creator you should help them but not attack. I don't think they are bad people bc they bought bunnies. Yes poor bunnies are in the shelter but I'm positive that, that family does not know and I bet you didn't know when you got your 1st bunny. Yes holding a bunny on their back is bad and i bet people pointed that out when they posted the picture. The most important thing is for the bunnies to have love, attention, good food AND go outside. So i don't see a problem why the bunny is outside soo many owners do that. Yes they are pray animals thats why you don't leave them ALONE outside. The bunny in the video was with an adult and a child. That bunny isint small so its the same size as a small dog. Also they have a garden so its the best place to take your bunny out. Its better to take a bunny outside sometimes so they can feel the grass and fresh air. This family is rich so the bunnies will have great food. They had a dog a couple of years ago and they have 4 children so its clear they know how to take good care of something. Every owner has to learn how properly take care of a bunny and you shouldn't hate on people but be happy that more and more people are getting bunnies! and no i am not a fan of that family i am just a woke bunny owner. There is nothing bad i getting a bunny when you have kids. When i was a kid I got my 1st bunny and he had a great life. Most kids have some sort of animal home. Get over it. It is important for the bunnies to just have a good life.

Animals should not be used for any kind of event. This is so sad. I don’t like the feeling that my country fair includes rabbits in their shows. The kids grab the rabbits by the ears and when their displayed, their on wire bottom cages. I’ve been to the Yuma fair many times and I have to say this is so cruel. They make the rabbits look like disposable objects and that should never be taught to little kids..

I just want to add a comment on this topic of buy or adopt. Now I’m not talking about this family, but in general. Adoption of course is the better choice, but that thing is about buying is that adoption can be really hard. It of course takes time to adopt, but some people who rent houses might face a struggle with the requirement by the certain adoption center. Which could give a struggle with getting landlords involved and all that. But at the end of the day, if adoption can be done , then do it. That action will truly support the bunny world. Have a great day!

    You are so gracious.
What's really sad, is the more information is available to us on so many forums, that we as a society asked for and created, the less people listen to or read the information that is out there to help them make genuine and sound decisions. Especially when it comes
to having a rabbit join the family. I hope they hear you and others and do their research for the sake of these bunnies who's fate is sadly unknown right now. There is so much good information on rabbit care and responsible adoption that it is unacceptable for anyone to just wake up one day and say hey I think I'll get a bunny and if it doesn't work out, meh, I'll get rid of it. I have adopted bunnies for 26 years now. I have had a total of 6 now (down to 1 as of the passing of my 10 1/2 year old in October). But every one has taught me so much. They're all different. I've had 2 single bunnies. I had a trio where I went to adopt one but he had two brothers and I didn't have the heart to separate them. They've all passed and the oldest was 13. They had semi annual vet visits. I took care of them when their back legs no longer worked. One went blind but he adapted so well and still ran through the house and came out to the living room for his evening pets. Bunnies require commitment. Humans are so dedicated to their own self care (well most) and we all need to extend that care to our furbabies. Forever.
Thank you for allowing me the long comment. Cheers and love to all the amazing bunny moms and dads. ❤

I wouldn’t recommend children to have bunnies. It is a lot of work and responsibility. A bunny is like having a toddler since bunnies need a lot of attention, love and care. They’re too delicate and too much responsibility for children unless the parents know exactly what to do and how to care for them and they can teach the same to the kids. But it’s obvious that these parents have no clue about the care needed for bunnies.
Theirs some children who at a young age are super responsible and there’s most who aren’t and others who are just mean to pets. Only the parents can know if their child is ready. But most parents just don’t care and will do whatever their child wants and it’s the fur and feather babies that suffer and die because of the parents neglect. If this wasn’t the case, their wouldn’t be thousands of bunnies on death row in shelters at this very moment or abandoned in the streets to fend for themselves. Like in south Florida theirs 2 cities overrun by rabbits cause they were dumped. Now they’re breeding in the wild. And in shelters theirs thousands of bunnies. Google it. It’s so sad. I’m in Tennessee now and don’t wanna think about how many bunnies must be in shelters 😢🙏🏼Please adopt all pets!! Don’t buy 🙏🏼.

My mom knows the lebrant family pretty well (family friends, i think) they are amazing people, they are just people who dont understand rabbit care as many people dont, i consider myself a rabbit expert, i will tell my mom to text the lebrant family and ask if i can give them any info, however i think this is kinds shameful on your part, i havent seen the full video but it feels as if you are shaming them, i am not saying this bc they are friends of my family (i personally never met the Lebrant family), isnt it better to teach people about rabbit care instead of shaming them? Everyone makes mistakes, this is the only part i hate about the rabbit community, you all just shame people for simply making mistakes that half of us made when we first got a rabbit, i love you and your videos but im kinda tired of seeing you hate on newbies for simply not understanding rabbit care, also buying a rabbit is completely understandable if again, they dont understand this type of stuff, also picking a breed is so normal, its like picking a dog breed, some breeds are better, Holland rabbits are better with younger children, im shocked you forgot how many people dont understand rabbit care, quite a few people get a rabbit before understanding it, also the amount of animals they get makes a lot of sense when you REALIZE THEY HAVE A FARMHOUSE, which also makes them having rabbits with younger kids make more sense, they are use to animals, they understand how fragile animals can be, please inform yourself about ANYONE before just judging them, also i just wanna make sure you know that i am a big fan, i tell everyone who wants a rabbit to watch your videos, i truly trust your content, love ya❤.

i thoroughly believe that any kid under 8-10 yrs old should not be able to have “their own pet”. especially exotics because they are definitely not for kids. kids love to touch and play, and animals like rabbits don’t always like to be touched and played with. the rabbit is just going to end up living in fear. kids also lose interest very very quickly. i had a little four year old girl come over to my house and i let her hold (with my supervision and me being super cautious) my pet bird. she immediately ran and told her mom that she wanted a pet bird too. obvi the mom said no especially after i told her all about why that is NOT a good idea, and within maybe like a half hour the kid moved on. those rabbits are definitely gonna be in a “my rabbits died!!😱😱😢😢” video in a month or so. it should be common sense to do very careful research and consideration for ANYTHING that’s a commitment. especially when it comes to animals, because then that’s a life in your hands

You can definitely rescue lops with a bit of patience.

yeah, my bunnies that i’ve had for almost four years now are absolutely TRAUMATIZED by their last family. they were with a very small child for almost a year so i assume they were scooped up quite a bit. it makes me nervous, i hope they like their new life more

Bunnies are for life. Not for Easter.

This is so sad. We already know what is going to happen to these poor bunnies. I remember when I rescued my baby, I did so much research, and bunny proofed our home before picking her up. Took her to the bed within a week and got her spayed right away. Hope this family is getting advice from all of their followers and educate them of what it means to own a bunny. Like you said... this is a 10-12 year commitment. Thank you for creating this video and bringing light to this.

Lorelei, I Pray and hope that they contact you! They NEED a bunny-wise vet and preferably an Odoscope for parents to keep an eye in those ears. Outside 😮,what about RHDV2?, Parasites and predators? I know having you come to them is necessary!! People hear everything that they should do but, many think it's bullshit. ITS NOT!! They will learn in a very sad way what bunnies really need 😭. Thank youuuuu for offering to help them, you are an angel 😇💞.
