Picking up my bunny is a nightmare. What I found the most useful is to not pick him unless I have to cut his nails, but say 'if you don't go to the living room on your own, I'll have to pick you up', 9 out of 10 times it works, this 1 time was when I said it to him 5 times, finally I said 'okay, I'm picking you up and putting you on the floor' (he was laying on windowsill), I did that, he was so surprised that I did what I said I would do 😂 But it works because I talk to him a lot, he can answer yes and no in his way, by either blinking twice or shaking his head. I think a lot of it is understanding your bunny's personality and behaviour and I have him for 5.5 years.
I'm a fairly new bun mom, and I'm constantly impressed with just how smart my bunny Maisy is. It didn't take her long to learn what the word "nummies" meant. 😂
@@lyrria1854 They are really smart! However with great bunny brain comes great sassiness, and they will ignore you if they want. Most of the time it goes like 'Hey, sir, don't do this. Stop. Thank you for sharing your bun wisdom to help so many others. Yup. Harper is 11 years old (free roamer for the entire time) who loves being petted but not picked up. The best way I found was to leave a duffle bag size pet carrier out at all times which she goes in and out whenever she wants. I always put some select hay in it too. When I see her go in, I quickly close the door flap. This works 70% of the time. She is fairly quick witted, so sometimes doesn't always work. The rest of the time is exactly the way is described in this video.
Great tips!! I have 2 buns, so they have to go to the vet together. I have to coordinate with my husband so we're each picking up a bunny at the same exact time. Otherwise there's no chance at picking up the 2nd bun 🤣
We use an empty litterbox with a towel in it and only pick up our bun enough to get him in there. We are all more comfortable when we carry him this way. Enjoy watching your channel. ❤
From my experience with 3 rabbits over 12 years or so, you can potentially train them to be okay with being picked up. Both of my boy Polishes (particularly my current one, Basil) hated being picked up at first. Now Basil is super chill about being lifted and will happily sit in my arms purring while I snuggle him and stroke his head. Just make sure while you're training them, ALWAYS give them some manner of treat every time you pick them up so they start to associate being held with getting treats. My Holland girl, on the other hand... sadly as much as she's the perfect size and fluff consistency for cuddling, she will probably just never enjoy being picked up. She's gotten to the point where she tolerates it, but she's never happy about it
Thank you for sharing your tips. My bun hates being picked up. I keep hoping that this will change eventually. I just want to shower my bun with love and kisses. 🐰🥰
Thank you for this!!! I only pick my Bun up with I NEED to. I try so hard not to!! But I gotta when he needs his nails clipped. But other than that I never pick him up.
Cinnabun is an adorable 🐰 bunny! You can tell she doesn't want to be picked up! Her attitude is I want this to be over! Our rescue bunny 🐰, The Professor doesn't like to be picked up! After about a month, he now enjoys being petted! He also likes the 🐰 bunny song 🎵 I sing to him! Have a great Sunday, Cinnabun! Bunnies 🐰 RULE!
Great video! When and how to pick up companion rabbits is really important. Sometimes you just have to do it if they need to go to the vet or leave the house with you for any other reason. Great tips.
At 1:53, how many outtakes is there of Cinnabun bolting off the table before you got the perfect bunny pic-up! Our 4 year boy bunny is no problem to pick up. Our 20 week old girl is a young diva and definitely hates it, but after, she's ok being held. Great advice and information Morgan, very entertaining too.
I just get my lil dude to go into a hide, or onto a basket... something I can lift instead of him. He's gotten to the point now where he'll willingly get back into/on whatever I've put him on the table with when it's time to get down again. Progress! 😂
yes! my bunny knows that this specific hide home is strictly for when she needs to go to another place and she HATES it. she always does a thump before hopping in (she gets loads of treats after so shes fine...drama queen 🙄💞)
the tips absolutly works even my shyer rabbit is like moms hand=treats. the other one of my 2rabbits has even started to let me pet het here now and then and ive had them 2 and 1/2 year in april they were both 6months when i got them so its been taking awile too build the trust. OH and giving them a treat when you put them down is golden they dont run away now they wait for the treat lol. thank you cinnabun for shopping us human how to hold you bunnies properly, iknow it must have been awful for you, hope you got some extra treats for it. /stay hoppy.
I love holding my bunnies. Sadly, they’re not fans of my icky furless touch 😆 so when I need to pick them up I will usually place a treat in a corner and pen them in with their carrier. I leave the door open so they can hop in themselves. My boy never fails to honk and thump his displeasure before hopping in and both of them flick their feet at me afterwards to let me know how vile I am for tricking them yet again, but they always get a small treat afterwards so they forgive pretty quick.
Great tips, I got off to a rough start with my Hazelbun, sometimes I have to pick her up for vet appointments, and to groom her , as I need to brush her because her husbun likes to groom her a lot and he is prone to stasis.
CINNABUN SUNDAY! so helpful for my brand new bunny! I do have a lion head who sheds everywhere right after we get her groomed, and grooms herself a lot, so I have to pick her up multiple times a day! sucks, but it’s for her health. She is so fluffy and has fur all over her body.
I just got my rabbit 3 days ago. When i put him on the ground and sit next to him he just hops on my lap then climbs up to my neck and stays cuddling to my face 😭
I remember your first video about picking up a rabbit. These indeed are good tips, but none of this works with mine hahha 2.5 years later, she likes pets, she likes eating out of my hand, she jumps on my lap and me, but picking up? No way, no-go. No matter how securely I pick her up, she squirms almost immediately. We don't tend to pick her up often, it's when we cut her nails, and need to take her to the vet, and on occassion like now during spring fever where she tries to bite down and dig away her wooden digging box, which of course won't happen, but makes a lot of noise hahah. We have to get her out and level the contents, otherwise she bites and flips the shovel we are using hahaha
Here are some tips if you are getting a new rabbit. Do not use Kaytee brand. I would use Oxbow or science selective, Or other small businesses Try not to keep them in a small cage and interact with them every day. Last, but at least have them live in a playpen with a cage inside if you can or free Rome them cause that’s the best option. I would free mine, but cannot, so I just use a big fence/playpen with a cage inside during the night.
Hi, love! I have been a huge fan of your videos and bun. I am finally making a big step to step out of my comfort zone and pursue making bun content. I'd love to know how you made your watermark? mine are squares. Did you use a PNG? and how were you able to make it says subscribe when clicking?
I love videos like this but I got lucky I started picking my bunny up from day one and she loves it only from a few people tho (plus she’s fully bonded to me)
Thank you so much! I just recently got a new rabbit named willow and I’m trying to bond it with my other one. They like to bite at each other or like scratch at each other. Any main tips on bonding that can help those problems or just in general?
I love your videos so much! I want a bunny so so bad but sadly my dad won’t let me! Do you have any tips to help convince him? He’s mainly worried about the responsibility and that I won’t take care of it! Thanks
Hi can I have some advise please... I've got a bunny he's a few months old and unfixed, I'm scared to get him done because I know a few people who's rabbits haven't made it through the op. I've joined a socialmedia group about bunnys and asked if anyone has a unfixed male and how they get on, I've had a lot of comments saying he needs to be neutered for bonding but i wasn't planning on getting another bunny. He's free roam indoors and we are with him all the time 💛
One of my bunnies HATES being picked up he just like runs in the air when I pick him up. But his brother (my other bunny) doesn’t really mind being picked up.
Does anyone know what it means for my 1-year-old male rabbit to try to nibble and chase my feet whenever I'm standing and wearing socks? When I'm not wearing socks, he tries to nibble my pants. He's not aggressive and quite cute, but he's been doing this recently.
I’ve tried it all and nothing works so I just taught my bunny how to go into its carrier on command and I just do that anytime it’s an emergency and I need to pick her up
Trying to pick up my bunny is literally horrible, he freaks out even if I support his back legs he like bolts them back, and then once I finally give up and put him down, he bolts away and hates me for atleast 2 days
Iv had a mini lop for a year now, and i have to say he makes for a very boring pet. Really boring pet. He was my sisters and she asked me to watch him for a few weeks and never returned for him. Needless to say, iv done everything i can think of for him, and he just doesnt care in the least abt interacting or playing. I dont know what to do abt him. Hes got to have his teeth done every 6 weeks. It cost me 100.00. I struggle honestly to pay that. Theres no ciddles, or interaction with him...im really torn abt what i can do in this situation. Whonis going to take a rabbit that costs 100 dollars ever 6 weeks to have his teeth done!
Well he is a living bunny, he has emotions and just because he's not "interactive" does not mean you can just leave your responsibility. Ik you didn't sign up to be a bunny owner, and if you can't take care of him make sure he goes to a nokill animal shelter. It's not the most ideal situation so make that a last resort. If you can't take care of him properly then it would be better to just give the responsibility to somone who is able to provide.
We need more Morgan!! Ur never going to out run a rabbit!! Classic!!
