To cActUsjIuCe: I live part of southeastern Virginia. I like to create a basic real world map From Norfolk, to Suffolk, Virginia. Just to test this thing out.. Can you do the exact same thing when you go to google map? Or Do I have to Go to redim and download the real world map? Other route I play like Norfolk Southern coal refinery, and horseshoe curve is very good. Now I like to create route from my own neck of the woods.
I spent a lot of time on the Microsoft Train sim route building about 6 years ago and I now want to switch over to TS2020. I have found that, for me, your videos are the go to place for the learning process. Second is MattPlaysTV as a good source. Anyway, I am trying to get the overlay map and all I can get is 4 hours of blue circles in the first tile. I have followed your videos very closely but nothing but blue circles. I even tried a new route with another API key and nothing. It seems I am at the main gate for route building but I can't get past it. Do you have any suggestions? I use the Google static maps you have suggested. I am suspicious that I don't have something right because, when I set this up in the route building settings, the program won't let me past the key code in. I can enter it and I know I have entered the correct code but, nothing comes of it. I have my DEMs loaded but do I need to, somehow, indicate what tiles to load in the map overlay?
Hello bud, I followed everything correctly but the blue circle just go around and around for ages and no picture appears. How can I make the maps appear? Do I have to pay?
From 2016 Jun 22nd, new rules are applying, and keys made after that are not free anymore (however, for private use you have a monthly 100.000 loads for free, above that, it's considered to be commercial use). To use, now on you have to enable billing (so you have to give some of your bank account info, it is only so companies cannot avoid paying by making multiple users). So in short, it still works, but a bit more fiddling.
Bbgunn325 I had the same. You need to set a payment method on your Google developer console account. But that’s not the end of it, you then need to associate your static maps API with that payment method and approve payments. Once you do that the console will give you a new API code and that code will not have the swirly blue circles
i'm having a bit of trouble with this. i hit ctrl+g and all it does is put some cloud thing where it looks like the tiles should be. do you have any reasons why it may be doing this?
Recently Google made users connect a billing account to use google map api services. Now I am aware that using static maps api for Train Simulator will not cost a lot or add up a lot overtime, but I am not going to risk adding a credit card to the Google Developer Console. I am hoping there is a way around this and I hope you have a solution to it. Even if there isn't, I think it would be awesome if you could make an updated video explaining the recent change so people understand why their Google map overlays aren't working.
Hello. I've tryed manny times but I still get sorry we have no image here. I tryed manny zooms also the one you sugested but noting. I followed your example step by step but it won't work in railworks 2016/2017, What do I wrong? regards Jeroen
I have the same problem , I've tried many UK locations and as many settings possible, from Doncaster to leeds, wakefield kirkgate to Featherstone, Doncaster to Sheffield and Sheffield to edale. i dont understand, does it pick the place where you live if youre entering your ip?Id like to do a place that is 200 kilometres away from me and you didnt type a name of an area in or something
solved. You need to search the latitude and longitude of the location you're finding and then enter it into the tab at the top of the game. Hope I helped :)
Hi. I'm building a route in Sydney, Australia and I loaded in the maps and it comes up with some random location. (I'm guessing somewhere in England) I was wondering if you knew what would cause this to happen?
Obviously for most people, including myself, have had the error of the map saying Sorry, no imagery here. I understand you are not a game developer or anything like that but do you think using and old key would solve that or is it just out of anyone's reach?
Using an old key would most likely work. I got my key back during TS2013/2014 days and works to this day. A buddy of mine claims to have followed this tutorial last week and has a working API key too. Try multiple times until you get a key that works? That's the only advice I can give.
I have Google Maps Overlay working, so I follow the tracks. Apparently you can also overlay a custom KML file on terrain, but I have no idea how to do that.
I'm sorry, but I am focusing on my development project for Train Sim World. I have not attempted obtaining and using Google API keys since they moved to their new Developer system. Once you obtain the key, it should work in game. Sorry again for any inconvenience.
ok so ive followed your vid, and when ive pressed ctrl + g together it loads tiles but there all white and say "sorry no imagery here* is this the API key or something else ?
i zoomed all the way in and out leaving a little bit like you said, im just atad confused because if its taken from google satelites as its google maps shouln't everywhere show up?
Railworks uses a very specific latitude lo longitude format...its in the format of longitude, latitude like -72.7483,42.4356. youll have to do some research to get the exact coordinates for your area
My son placed coordinates to a location that he wants to begin building a real world route, however, it loads a random location. We did grab coordinates from Google maps to ensure we had it correct. We then pulled up a Steam route to validate that the Ctrl G feature was working properly, and it did provide us the correct location for that. Just can't seem to pull in what we want???
Thanks for contacting me back. This morning, he was able to get the right area to load. The coordinates that we got from Google Maps included an extra digit at the end which was causing it to not load properly. Not sure if why that made a difference, but it did and now it works.
it sure has, but the principle remains the same. i'm far too busy with TSW development to make an updated tutorial. As long as you can get a Static Maps API key from the Google Developers area, you can use the overlay. Sorry.

All I can suggest is to double-check that your project on Google Developer Console is linked with your billing account and then copy the API key and Paste (Control-v) into Train Sim. There doesn't seem to be a problem using a newly generated key, even if you have tried to use one already, which is contrary to what the video says.
I check it and i had it conected, but still i have that blue circles. I´ve tried i think every possibility to setup the google maps but i had broken sim or i am idiot.

Well if you followed the video exactly and it didn't work...chances it is because of the API key provided by Google. I doubt going through each and every step with you will make this work.
Alright best of luck. I am sorry that Google is no longer providing keys that work with the game. You could always try contacting Google to see if they can help.

Will this work for train simulator 2020

Ethan's Train Vlogs go up till you find another comment by me. It is the solution.
Sorry, but do I have to pay to use Google Key? Or can this be used for free to build a route?
I still have my original API key, don't pay anything, and it works great
Yeah now you gotta add a credit card or debit card (MUST BE A BANK CARD) to show you’re not a robot.
In some parts of the world, it doesn't get any image overlays. Is there a solution to this?
Try lowering the Zoom Level option. Where I recommend setting it doesn't always work everywhere. Best of luck!
I want to import the entire city of Huntington Beach, CA without placing everything. is it possible?
Is it possible through google maps to get the hills around your train simulator map from your location. Please tell me if this didn't make sence
By importing real world terrain (this is one of my other tutorials), it is possible to bring realistic terrain into your route.

How does it know where in the world you are in the map and and which part of the world you want to look/use?
