    1. After save image from GE, I usually crop then adjust quality of image with image editor. I need to crop the image is to prevent stretching from BM.
    2. Basemapz creates FLAT MAP only. We need terrain also...
As far as I do is create some path on GE and get the elevation of those paths.
TransDEM may do better, but it's not free... :-(
    3. For enjoy creating route, better use two monitor: first for croped image and second for TRS...

Nice idea BUT, while your measured north-south length is OK, the east-west length is totally wrong. If you had also placed a measure line in GE, it would be obvious. I could not use this to build any route in Trainz that attempts to bee realistic. Not only would east-west distances be off, any angle measurements would also be off.
Since Trainz base boards are exactly 720 x 720 meters, if a square image was cropped from the saved GE image, what parameters would have to be used in step #2.?

I've used this method, you would use the same parameters, but use an image processing program like Paint .net or GIMP to crop the original saved image to a square. Then run the new image through Basemapz, and the proportions should be right when you place down your asset.

Fremont Nebraska is has lines running in all four directions. BNSF runs North and South. UP runs East and West. The UP side would be inaccurate but bnsf would be almost perfect.

To avoid or at least minimize distortion, in the Google Earth layer menu in the bottom left, turn off all the layers. This will turn off all the topology or whatever it's called in english, and result a flat image. If you look closely when you place the ruler in the video, you can see it follow the terrain contour of the valley. That is not good. Turn off topology and it supposed to be alright.

I tried doing this, including the tips by T-90 about distortion and the maps still did not line up, it was almost as if they were changing resolution on capture. I ended up ditching the 32 maps I had, trying something else, I think just google map grabs. Thanks for the tutorial though; if you are just grabbing a single map then yes, this works, but multiple do not line up well (for me at least).

***AH HA! If your press "R" on the keyboard when in Google Earth it will flatten the image, getting rid of the earth curve, maps line up much much better now.***

@@randomnessetc5600 You save one image into a folder on its own with nothing else in the folder. Then you open basemapz and select the image from that folder. It really doesn't get saved into Basemapz. It is imported into the program once you saved it as a separate step earlier.

    Isn't there any easier method?
Back in my day, I used other method. Measuring length of anything in google earth and then measuring the same thing in Trainz. It worked and it was a bit faster method then yours. I mean, yes, it was a bit "cheap" and "imprecise" but it worked very well after all.
