Cover up your plate when your filming. You can get custome reg plate covers. Get ones with your channel name on them. Super quick thing to do, not much hassle at all.
Happened to me once years ago. Police actually turned up at my house looking for the car. I was actually on holiday and the car was locked in the garage. My Dad answered the door and confirmed I had been out of the country for the last 7 days and I was due back in 2 days time. Then showed them the car securely locked in the garage. The police thanked him and left and then few weeks later got a letter saying my car had been cloned but they had found the car and dealt with it.
George, the same happened to me, had a heck of a job sorting it out, got 5 penalty notices from London, I sympathise. Got an E46 touring like yours now in the same colour, with the M47, just changing the starter motor, what a pig of a job!!! Keep up the good work.

I had my car cloned years ago. First I knew about it was when an officer knocked on my door asking about my car. Apparently it had been involved in a ram raid but when I pointed out my car in the driveway with not even a scratch on it and the fact the car in the video was a different colour they accepted my car had been cloned. Never heard anything after that.
My girlfriend lives in Edinburgh. 'Her car' was spotted in Manchester, same Mazda MX 5 same color. She got a ticket from Manchester while she was at home in Edinburgh that day. The point was how to prove that she hadn't left Edinburgh and not even her street on the day of the ticket. For the car she choosed an insurance at a reduced rate with a miles restriction, when she bought it. In her car is a dongle from the insurance company, which tracks her journeys by means of GPS tracking, to register the miliage but also maps the routes she drove. By reading out the dongle she could prove to the police that she had not driven the car that day.
Just saw you featured on Frontline Fightback. I am glad it has been sorted and all 5 notices cancelled. My friends had their car number plate cloned recently, that was involved in a fuel theft. The garage CCTV captured incident and it was obvious it was not them. The person involved didn't look familiar, considering only the husband and wife use the car. The car though the same make/colour, had different seat and dashboard colour. The wheels were different colour. The notice photo had cropped out the licence plate, though it was mentioned in on notice. My friends replied back saying the garage need to show more photos showing the registration plate. They also told them the car is different. I advised my friends to contact the police. They said they will wait for more information from the garage. I saw the photo myself, and the guy was filling a tank in the rear seat, through the rear window!
It always good to make your car slightly different with little identifying details.
Someone cloned my car and parked it outside my ex girlfriend's house over night while my wife was away....the cheek..!

His got a e90 2010
The clone car had the 2006 rear lights design.
Plus his was a m sport. The other was just a s.e.
Once he contacted them they dropped the charges and informed the police of the clone plate in that area.
Same situation as mine then pretty much!
Been there George in a similar way:
Had a Renault 5 turbo…. Which was off the road being built……. And I sent off for log book ……. It came back…. Was already on road😵💫…… cops came round checked my chassis number
And then went off to feel the collar of the miscreant . Shock innit matey!

This Video needs more attention guys ! Please share! Sorry to hear about this George, but hopefully this video will get out there and have an impact. This also happened to my late Grandad and he paid a speeding fine while he was in hospital a few years back. I'm still angry now!

Ah mate, this is so annoying and so glad you were able to notice those subtle differences and the Police were quick to respond. Definitely agree with others in getting some 'show' plates for the channel. 👍🏼

I'm currently going through the same thing and i wouldn't even had taken a look at my registration plate properly until you mentioned it at the start of your video
A car matching my cars description was involved in a speeding fine aswell as being involved in a hit and run
And i was rattling my brain, until i looked at the registration and noticed the position of the screws on the plate weren't aligned properly
I was actually on BBC 1 talking about this happening👍🏻

I had this with parking tickets a few years ago. I live in Manchester and the cloned reg was around London. GMP were great and sorted my tickets within an hour after I first reported. A couple of weeks later I had another ticket which the officer dealt with over email. A marker was then set on the reg around London. I never heard anything after that. I was advised to put a sticker of some description on my number plate. I had only bought the car 2-3 months before and the cloned car was very similar so I’m guessing they Google cars to clone?

Happened me about 4 years ago got a letter with fine for bus lane infringement, somewhere in England funny thing I live n.ireland and hadn't been to England since 1998 and I never drove either,contacted police dvla trying to get sorted and it was a nightmare
What happened to the fine?

Sorry to hear that some 'Cunning Stunt' has had your reg number away. Good to hear you got a positive response from the Sweeney. Good job the dates meant that you have good supporting evidence, these things can be a bit 'guilty until proven innocent' and a lot of jumping through hoops. How is the Beemer Estate 'run and die' coming along, really looking forward to the solution on that
Had this last year, parking fine come through, had me super confused just😂 just let the local police know they gave me a crime number which I sent back to the fine company, and marked my plate, never had any issues after that

My reg. Gor nicked in 2014. Was sad :( since it was the oem styner reg.
If you have access to another vehicle to use phone your insurance company up explain the situation to them and ask them to cancel your insurance for 7 days and temporarily put it onto the other car that way every ANPR camera will flag up the cloned car straight away that way the police will get it off the road quicker rather than them just coming across it one day.

Guess covering up the number plate on your car with tape, would not look good and not be legal when out on the road. There are tutorials on YT, to blur out / pixelate, the number plate or anything else in your videos, using software.
Yes it can all be done but then they'll always be people who will make it their mission to find out what it is and it will be a lot of time and effort to hide my reg. I really have nothing to hide with any of my cars so I welcome people to do reg checks etc on them if they wish
So sad to see how innocent people get hacked in so many different ways, for the same reason and other reasons I have mounted a dash-cam on my car ( Front and Rear ), some kits have GPS and other features, make sure you get one that can handle large storage memory cards, also if you have Google maps or just Google on your cellphone I think you can have it set up to keep track of your locations, I know is little annoying but it could help to prove your innocence.
The Google timeline doesn't count as evidence apparently according to my insurance company had a similar incident a few years ago and there response was in a nutshell you could have left your phone at home, i do agree with GPS dash cam and google/apple timeline as they will correlate so that's a better way to do it but the claim was made thing 5 months after the apparent incident so its never concrete.
I actually have a dashcam in this car but I obviously wasn't in it at the time of the incident

Shouldn't made it public pal, they'll just clone another vehicle now, I had a similar incident a while back was very stressful.

How did the copied license plates end up on another car? Can you just buy another set of plates without going through the process of showing your id and have a police officer check your VIN?

Hey, my van has been cloned, i only bought it on 15th February 2024, and the person that cloned it drove through a ulez camera on 21st February 2024
I havent been anywhere near london at all with this vehicle, i have never even been into the centre of london at all, ever, i live in derby, i have no friends in london, i dont know anyone in london, i dont work in london, i literally have no reason at all to go any further south than Leicester
Its upsetting for this to happen, im relying on this van for work, im almost bankrupt as it is, i really dont need this
I contacted the metropolitan police, because the offence took place in london, i also contacted the place that deals with the ulez charges
Nobody has been round, nobody has called me to follow anything up, im scared to death of going anywhere in my van now, because i reported it as being cloned, and the police use a national database, so are likely to stop me as well as the criminals
In fact there more likely to stop me than the criminals, because we all know criminals never get caught
I dont know what else to do, im absolutely heartbroken that in a week after i bought the van this has happened 😭

More than likely your details have just been used to circumvent insurance and tax. Lets hope. Anyhow just pick up some custom plates from the flee bay. may as well cover up your legit ones when filming .
Mate, I hate to say it but you have to cover up your plates when making videos (Obviously not on the road). Unfortunately there are unscrupulous folk out there.
Would be a lot of time and effort and you're just bringing attention to the point then
