So yeah my car has been cloned🤦♂️ In this video I talk about what car cloning is why and how its happens and how to reduce the chances of it happing to you guys too. Good advice. Happened to my colleague. She had loads of speeding tickets on a cloned car and she had to prove she was at work, her employer had to confirm this. Also I am in road safety and we had some abusive men creating an incident, we managed to get details of the vehicle and the police think it is cloned but they are currently writing to the registered owner to get their side of the story and what they were doing last week, at this place and time.

The only practical defence is to change your number-plates. The DVLA are not interested and do nothing. In our case, the police don't seem to be interested. I have heard nothing for months. Even if the vehicles do not resemble one another, the penalties still arrive. Cameras are only interested in number-plates and no-one checks the pictures. This is what happens when someone doesn't think through the idea of what will happen when tax discs were dropped. So choose a new number-plate that is not contemporary and hope they don't clone that one. It is not cheap but that's all you can do.
I'm in same situation. My job demands a clean driving license.
Got fobbed off at my local police station. Told to contact DVLA directly. Also went to another police station, where I was put in touch with fraud team. Hopefully that's the end. 🤞 It's Knight mare situation. Thanks for the advice.
@insomnia sapien Thanks for the comment. Yeah its a real nightmare! Well done for contacting the DVLA directly. I hope it all gets sorted very soon for you and it doesn't effect your job. Very similar to what happened with yourself Gwent police have been fantastic today, but there's parts of this they will put the clone plate on any car any any colour whether it ford VW anything the reg plate was a silver Kuga car and yet mine is blue vw so I was in the clear .
I had the same problem. I informed the police straight away and they gave me a CAD number. I also chatted with the DVLA and sent them a letter together with photo evidence of my motorcycle being cloned and asked them for a new reg number at no extra cost. They wrote back after 10 days agreeing to provide me with a new reg number and I also received the new V5C after a few days. The first 2 PCNs were disputed and cancelled. I'm still waiting to be contacted by Met Police for the 4 speeding tickets that I have disputed (expect them to be cancelled as well). It is very important to change the reg number after the old one has been compromised, this kind of crime is very low on the police priority list.

You usually don't have to change the plate because most criminals will stop using it before long as the plate becomes essentially HOT and if they're stopped in a vehicle with it, it can potentially be used as a "log" evidence against them.
I imagine most criminals will look for another plate after weeks of using it.
Last few days I have received so many PCNs because my car is cloned, would you be able to kindly share your letter you sent to DVLA I get the feeling they probably aren't bothered anymore about providing a new plate because of cloning anymore.
@grapewater123 Sorry to hear its happened to you too! You can email directly now through the Government website. There is also a number to call too. I can't put the number or website in the comment section because the comment gets deleted by RUclips but you can Google the dvla and it will give you the link to the email address and phone number. @@TheBimmerFixer Called up police, advised me to call dvla and action fraud. Action fraud gave me their own separate crime ref num whereas dvla sent me an email telling me I need to send them a letter informing them that my num plate has been cloned. Dvla offered no advice or support, even though I did try to ask for advice on what to do - just said to read email and go deal with it on your own basically.

My vehicle been. Clowned right now I have received a penalty charge it gets better in London they have extended the ultra low emissions to Romford which is £12 ,50 each day so I'm getting this coming out of my bank thanks for to this person using my number plate
Just hope l can get decent camera footage to prove its not me driving

I've just recieved a speeding ticket from Lincoln, I was in work in Chester at the time of the offence and have never been to Lincoln. The car on the police's photograph is an earlier model car than mine. Hoping I don't have too much trouble proving all of this.
@Monkeyengine Sorry you hear its happened to you too! The process should be fairly quick and easy to get resolved and proved. Just send the information as quick as you can when asked i.e the photos. Good luck and hope it gets sorted soon for you!
My son has just got 3 PCN's in 2 days, 2 from Dartford crossing and 1 for going into bus lane. Police, locally in Norfolk totally uninterested and unhelpful. Essex police will not give a crime number which is really useful in Appeal procedure. Pictures we have seen from Dartford Bridge crossing absolutely crap for car identity purposes. Only thing that shows is white front identity plate. The bus lane infringement pictures are better and are taken from rear and makes comparison differences easier to make and prove. Even if my son is cleared of these PCN's there is no reason why he will not continue to get more PCN's. Congestion Charge and ULEZ and parking tickets are very likely to appear. The only way I see to stop this nightmare is to get another set of plates or have a Telematics black box installed. As others have said the online market place car photos have made it a cloners paradise.
@robert Foster Hi Robert Really sorry to hear about your son falling victim to car cloning it's incredibly frustrating and not to mention infuriating too. It's a real shame the police haven't been much help either. Hopefully the tickets from the bus lane will be dealt with and I'm hoping with that evident the other will get sorted too. Yeah some sort of tracker or change of plates might be the only way to stop it happening but with a bit of luck the criminals will stop using the cloned car soon as they usally end up crashing it or dumping it. Thanks for this video it was really helpful although a couple years old. Yesterday I got home and received a letter from cameras tickets and collisions. Apparently I'd been caught on a speed camera in Yorkshire doing 82mph on a dual carriageway. I live in London and have never been there in my life. I was horrified as my car is on a 23 plate and ive only had it 2 months. Like you I logged into the portal to see these really poor pictures which I initially thought were fake then the last pic which was close up was identical to my car. Luckily I have receipts to show I was shopping at that date and time and one of the stores had anpr. I may have to call on them if the police don't accept. I have only share a cple of pics privately on WhatsApp to a relative and a friend. I reported it to the police today and they said to send them 4 pics of the car with close up on the number plate as you said. I was also advised to contact DVLA and my insurer. I hope they can find the culprits and stop them.

I've just bought a car 2 weeks ago from York, so far I've had 2 speeding tickets from York!!!! The cars are identical but the difference is my car has the gb logo on the plate on the front and my rear lights are tinted but the car that keeps getting speeding tickets has a plain reg and normal lights!!
I've just bought a private plate to put on mine and hopefully who ever is using my plate thats on now get caught by a anpr and dealt with accordingly
Hi Jarra, it's infuriating isn't it! Have you called or emailed the ticket office? Might be worth just giving them a call or writing to them. I wouldn't want you to get a fine for something you haven't done! I can't believe the cheek of some people. If you get stuck or need help let me know 👍 Good luck and keep me posted.

Yes altogether I've had over 20 speeding and parking notices, everytime I need to send them.back.with a letter etc my private plate still hasn't arrived its getting beyond a joke, oh and the police were at my door because the car was involved in a drive off with fuel in york at 2.30am just ridiculous that they can't do anything about it
That's awful 🤬😡 That's one of the worst cases of car cloning I've ever heard of!! I really really hope your new plates arrive soon and puts an end to this nightmare for you. I also hope the police get these guys soon too! ANPR should ping them sooner or later. Thanks for the update Jarra it really helps everyone on here out.
My car is cloned. I didn’t commit any speed offenses I am accused of. I can’t provide evidence that I was at home also I met someone else he was an Uber driver but neither I nor him can provide evidence and the police doesn’t get our record, doesn’t take a statement at all. They said it’s not their authority where we should go🤦🏻♀️ What shall we do? 🤷🏻♀️
@Xezal Delal Hi Xezal, don't panic firstly you need to contact the tick office the details are on the speeding ticket as soon as possible. They will then get you to take some photos of your car, even if they look the same as the car that commited the offence still send them as they have ways of telling the difference between the two cars. Hope it gets sorted soon for you. Let me know of yiu need any more help.
google maps knows your location and you can scroll back to cross ref date and time and place. see your phone!

@ZAYNE ABU HAFSAH MUSA. Hi there sorry to hear its happened to you too. Firstly you need to contact the ticket office on the number on the letter you received and tell them straight away that your car as been cloned and this isn't you. They will advise you what to do next. But call then as soon as you can. Let me know how you get on, good luck 👍🏻
Just going through this myself now, can only appeal the 5 fines I've got through through email as you can only call to pay them, i also received a letter from the Met police today saying my car was involved in some sort of crash an drove off. Thankfully this is all happening in London an I live in Newcastle so hoping it shouldn't be too hard to prove I was no where near that area

hello i hope you’re doing well, i just wanted to ask how you called the ticket office number as mine has none provided, would you suggest me calling DVLA? ironically the evidence of yours is the same as mine where the cloned car had GB!!! thank God for that

Right, the weekend police is totally different service unbelievable of the difference
Today's on going with the police was fantastic they have now put a mark on my car and their ANPR system is running in order to catch the person responsible for pitching my plate.
There's other stuff that the police have done for me in something has been put in place.
Crime number sorted for me. Don't be fobbed off by the weekend police week day police are totally different.

Hi there, sorry to hear about this its never nice to have to go through something like this. What did the police say? Was the car that you bought on wrong plates? @@TheBimmerFixer have just done a check on the real vin number of the vehicle to see if it was stolen or just damaged repaired and for what I understood there is no report of stolen only damage repaired.. In this case they could not have taked the car am I correct? Appreciate your time 🙏

Dear Central ticket office,
I really hope you can help me. I have received a notice of intended prosecution for a speeding offence that wasn't me or my vehicle. At the time of the offence I along with my vehicle were at home in ------------- and the vehicle involved in the offence was not mine and there for believe that my vehicle number plate has been duplicated.
Attached are photos of my vehicle and photos from the safety camera. I have noticed that the offending vehicle has a different type of number plate. It appears to be the new number plate design with the blue GB tag on the left hand side and as you can see from the photos of my vehicle I have the older orginal number plate design with no GB mark and even spaces between the numbers at the end of the number plate. This is unlike the offending vehicle where a gap can been seen on the left side of the plate.
Please see the attached photos where you will see a close up on my vehicles number plate, the offending vehicle (not me or vehicle) along with a photo of the left side of the number plate that my vehicle doesn't have.

I also have a cloned numberplate of someone getting petrol and driving away. I live in Essex and the offence was In Birmingham. It was the same make and model but a different model variant, I fill up on the drivers side and the photo on the letter I received from a company demanding payment they were filling up on the passenger side.the issue has been resolved fairly quickly. I was told too inform the police and contact the DVLA. This was a waste of time as both parties say there is nothing they can do. So it looks like I will be contesting speeding parking petrol theft and maybe accidents in the near future. The only advise the police gave me was get a private plate what a joke

Have they caught the guys who cloned your car yet? or just cancelled the PCN.
The first PCN, I proved my innocent and it was cancelled but in 1month time I have yet received two new PCNs from the same authority.

Well my car has been cloned and contacted the police to let them know and they did not want to know anything about it basically it's my problem.

How helpful you are 🙏 I got in contact to police station and they didn’t take my report. They simply advised me to go and appeal against the tickets but I was at home and I don’t know how to prove evidence for it. If the police wants to find the other car which cloned mines than I would be cleared against all the offences but the police doesn’t even get my complaints? What shall I do?

@Xezal Dela Hello again ☺️ so once you have apealed the ticket the police are made aware that your vehicle has been cloned and if that car or your car goes through ANPR it will alert the police that that car has potentially been cloned and will be pulled over.
