- BMW e60/e61 Polyurethane Bushings Rear Sway Bar Install
Hi everyone and welcome to another Bimmer Fixer video.
In this video I will so how to install Polyurethane bushes on the rear anti roll bar/sway bar on an e60 /e61. The main advantages of the Polyurethane bushes is that they are slightly stiffer than the normal rubber ones meaning less roll in the corners and they last a lot longer due to being made of Polyurethane. It’s a fairly easy job to do and definitely worth doing if yours have done a lot of miles.

Great video! Thank you! I see PSB have bushing sets for the e60 im going to order these and do all the bushing! Thanks again.
@Peaceful Bliss Thanks very much! Appreciate it! Yeah they sure do and a good price too. Let me know what you think of them and let me know if you have any questions.
A good tip when fitting poly bushes to sway bars to stop the possibility of these ever sqeaking in the future is to wrap the bar where the bush contacts it with plumbers PTFE tape and then grease over this and then fit up the bush, this way if the grease ever fails you won't develop a squeak.
@Rod Panhard Thats a great tip! Thank you if they ever do start squeaking I'll be sure to crack out thr PTFE tape. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice fix!
@Kuko 90 Thank you! Appreciate the feedback!
Ordered 👍
@Ted Baker Fantastic! 😃👍🏻
Really enjoying your videos! Tomorrow I'm tackling my e61 engine mounts, there are no good videos of this job that I can find, so if yours need doing it could be helpful for many people
@Nick B Hi Nick! Thank you that's great, I really appreciate you letting me know. Wow thats awesome 👍🏻hope the weather is good for you. That's a great idea thats definitely going on the list any other ideas let me know!
@The Bimmer Fixer I completed the engine mount job today, it wasn't too bad but I'm sure people would benefit from a good video on it! While we're on the topic of topics... subframe bushes, diff bushes... any other awkward bushes!
@Nick B That's awesome! How did you lift the engine? Yeah bushing are always good to do actually thats a good shout 👍🏻
@The Bimmer Fixer I removed the stiffening plate from under the sump and jacked the sump with a trolley jack with a block of wood in-between. Haynes manual suggested this was OK and I couldn't identify any more suitable places. My block of wood covered 3 edges of the sump so I wasn't super worried about it cracking, but on a bigger 3l engine I might be.
Also, using a trolley jack comes with some risk... you know when you get a trolley jack quiet high and they roll forwards a bit because the jacking pad follows an arc on a trolley jack, well that's pretty scary when your engine is balanced on it!
I did one mount at a time. The nearside one had slightly more difficult bolt access and was easy to pull out once undone. The offside one had easy bolt access but was hard to wiggle out past the power steering hoses.
@Nick B Fantastic work! Sounds like you should have a RUclips channel too! I know for a fact people are definitely going to use your comment to help them out. Yeah I know what you mean about the jack it always make me twitchy😂. Great work again Nick and thank you for sharing!
Nice video as always mate aye need to get this done.
@Matthew Barnes Thank you! Yeah definitely worth doing, its a nice and relatively simple job to do and you can definitely feel the difference in the bends and corners!
@@TheBimmerFixer yeah it looks pretty straight forward another job on the list for the summer 🤣.
@Matthew Barnes Yeah I would wait until then I've seen the weather you're having up there ❄️❄️❄️😂
@@TheBimmerFixer 🤣🤣yeah it was like a blizzard here last night but it's sunny today lol.
@Matthew Barnes 😂😂 crazy weather!
So i have a 530i e60, left rear started squeeking ALOT whenever there was any uneveness in the road or going over bumps, it was horrible. I changed the Rear Lower Arm bushings to PSB polyurethane ones (they are called PSB 653 and 654), it stopped for a week or 2 then the squeeking came back. I took everything apart again and really greased them up literally everything around them in them evrything, still a horrible squeeking noise.
Really can't seem to figure out what is squeeking, do you have any ideas?
Now that you’ve done bothfront and back what’s the main difference in the feel when you drive? Thanks for the videos.
@derin111 Hi, well it definitely handles so much better in the corners and bends especially on roundabouts I found myself going around the roundabout 2 or 3 times on the test drive because I couldn't believe the difference. I didn't realise how much the old bushes had failed until I replaced them. I would even say its handling better in a straight line just feels more planted and stable. 👍🏻
@@TheBimmerFixer I'm abroad in Germany at the moment in my E61 535d (SE) but this will be on list to do as soon as I get home! Thanks 🙂
@derin111 Amazing! You'll definitely feel the difference 😃👍🏻
Hi its me again do you know which part number for my car BMW E61 touring,535, not M pover ,2007 lci , LY07LJL please thank you
@Marcin-zr3mg Hi, I've been looking for 30 minutes and I keep seeing 2 different sizes and I'm not sure why. Could you send the last 7 digits of your vin and then we will know 100% you can email it to me if you like. My email is at the bottom on the video description.
They any good PBS ?
@Quick2004 Yeah I definitely rate them the quality is great, they don't squeak and fitment is brilliant. Also their customer service is brilliant!
@@TheBimmerFixerhappy days mate
You mentioned 16mm for the E60 M, do u know the diameter of the bar for E60 SE?
@zon tarr Hi, what engine does your e60 SE have? And does it have active steering/stability control?
@zon tarr Just had a look if it's non stability controlled i.e if they look similar to mine in the video then they will be 13.5mm. Hope that helps.
@@TheBimmerFixer thx, is a 525i SE 2004, it has that DSC button down near parking sensors....
@zon tarr Thats ok no problem. Ah ok in that case you have bigger bushings and they are a different design the the BWM part number is 37126761022 pop that number into Google see and what you think. 👍🏻
@@TheBimmerFixer ok thank you very much
Hi i cant seem to find the bushes to fit mine
@karler329 Hi, is it a 5 series? If so what type and engine size? I will try find them for you.
@@TheBimmerFixer hi its a bmw 5 series 525d SE 2007 lci I wanted the front and rear sway bar bushes
@Kaler329 so on the Problem solving bushings website if you don't have active steering the part number is PSB616 or bmw part number 31356761591 for front and PSB645 BMW part number 33556766510 for rear. Hope that helps.
@@TheBimmerFixer oh wicked mate cheers I appreciate it mate mine doesn't have active steering thank you for helping me
@kaler329 No problem mate any time!
Don't suppose you've felt any difference after doing front and back?
@Austin TM Yeah definitely, a lot more than I was expecting. I took it for a drive with just the front done to see if I could feel the difference in the front end and the back just didn't feel right. Once I had done the rear too I could feel a massive difference. Funny thing is before I changed them I didn't really think they were that bad. It wasn't until I changed them to polyurethane I notice how bad the original ones were.
@The Bimmer Fixer I did the rear springs , handbrake shoes , pads and discs and the difference has made a massive difference. I'm going to do these next I think.
Keep up the good work 👍
@Austin TM Great work! Yeah go for it! It will really make a difference especially after all the work you've done already. Let me know if you do it and what you think after 👍🏻
Thank you sure will! 😃
