- Sunday 3rd February 2018 and four of us flew to Old Warden for lunch. John in the RV4, Duncan in the D18, the other John in the Sipa and myself in the Jodel.
Although I used the 40db reducer I did have problems with the standby Telex Echelon headset which I was using while waiting for the return of my Clarity Aloft.

I am not a qualified flying instructor nor do I ever claim to be a very good pilot. I fly for fun and basically record for my own interest and review but upload because a number of people have asked me to. I do try to edit for enjoyment and story telling and this means that some content is not always included.

Much better, now this one I really enjoyed. No deceit no idle chat just pure aviation in a blue sky over a stunning landscape
I love Old Warden and you did a great job filming in and out, Tim. A lovely part of the world which your recording confirmed perfectly. Thank you for posting 👍
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice trip to follow along, Tim. I recall trips to Old Warden from East Midlands where I first learned to fly back in the early 70's. Nothing quite beats flying in and out of uncontrolled grass strips. Really grass roots flying!
It's the flying we love Alan!
Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks for posting. Although the low sun can be a problem, I never tire of seeing the ground contours amplified by the low angle of the sun. I definitely need to get airborne again soon.
Thanks John. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice video again. Like always to see the video's from you.
Thank you. The sound was not good on this one though.
Pictures and maybe clips of Old Warden would have been appriciate too but I love the down view of the country. Good job!!
Ok, point taken but as I said to Jed, I have filmed the museum in a previous video and don't like to bore my viewers but I will go back and film the museum and the gardens.
Great video as always. Just got my PPL and Old Warden is definitely on my list of places to visit.
Thank you and YES you must put Old Warden on the 'to visit' list! Well done on just getting your licence.
Lovely day for flying! Lucky chaps.
Thanks, we were. It was a great trip out.
Enjoyed flying with you in my lounge room again . Looked like very smooth flying, no doubt due to the cold and dense air . Thanks for sharing .
Thanks David. It was a nice clear, cold day so the air was very smooth and the flight good.
Nice seeing blue skies again. Would have been good to see more of Old Warden. If not some of the museum exhibits then the visiting aircraft up close. Other than that another fine video, thanks for sharing.and next Friday can’t come quick enough.
Thanks Jed. Ok, point taken. The trouble is when you fly back into places you don't always want to repeat content but next time I will do museum and gardens! :-)
I’ve never flown in formation or been to Old Warden.
Great video Tim 👍🏻
We will have to do something about both of those then! Sound was rubbish is this video but the headset is back now :-)
Jodel Flyer that wld be amazing
Glad it’s bk 👍🇺🇸
Great video again tim ..hope we can have more days out too
Thanks John, it was a good trip out wasn't it!
Wish I could have been with you, next time perhaps. 👍🏻😎
It was a fun trip and we each flew solo!
Hi Tim, did I just see and hear one aircraft lining up and 21 then another aircraft deciding they were going to cross 21.......
Great video, what frequency did you use to communicate with the rest of the formation? Cheers
Thank you. The landing aircraft had turned right off the runway and was waiting to cross the runway behind me as I took off but before John had started to take off run in the Sipa. We tend to use Uni Com but keep it to safety related calls.
He used to be my head teacher
Another one of my ex pupils! Which Lloyd, Lloyd? :-)
It is always nice to see you fly into Old Warden, one of my favourite places in the country but alas somewhere I haven't been able to go to for a while. One question; I've seen a few videos where pilots fly as a group somewhere. Why don't people fly in tighter formations, is it because of the difference in aircraft type performance or to reduce workload?
You are right on both counts. It is a lot to do with aircraft performance and pilot experience. It takes quite a bit of effort to fly in a tight formation for any length of time, especially with four aircraft. There have been times when John has been tightly formed up on the Jodel but I have to keep the speed really up and he is throttled back to idle in the RV!
Hi Tim another great flight. I have had some great RC flying days at Old warden.interesting museum. I take it you haven't got your lightweight headset repaired yet. How long did that flight take in real time..Enjoyed as always. Regards Jim
Thanks Jim. No fuss flight is about 25 to 30 minutes. Headset is back now but videos tend to lag slightly behind! :-)
