sum : it doesn’t matter how often you practice, it’s matters *how* you practice. Most masters have learned the ‘micro-skill’ of their discipline. They learned it for the fun of being to able to say ‘I’ve learned that!’ There are also ‘entries’ to the micro-skills, for example holding your hand in a certain way to draw a better circle.
I'm a bass player and I'm at7,080 hours of practice, and I'm just getting good to feel it. They say 8000 is good and 10000 great and so far it's on par. After 6600 hours advancement started increasing rapidly and if this keeps up over the next 1000 hours I should reach good by then. I practice 16 to 20 hours a week.
This video is changing my approach to learning forever. His emphasis on how we learn as children by doing and not by reading has opened my eyes to consider a more practical oriented approach to learning. He also encourages us to learn by having fun or getting interest in whatever we are learning by approaching it like how kids learn by experimenting. I cant thank you enough. I am grateful.
The goal of this video is to enjoy learning and be proud of your achievements even if you think they are little the fact they are not because you are achieving something .you in the past you were not, like he said master how to enjoy learning and if you don’t you will not learn anything , small steps with a lot of love can make a huge difference in your life which would lead you to hapiness.
Of course there are fun microcosms of the whole subject that you can meet along the way of mastering it. But the problem is that usually it becomes less and less fun as you dive deeper into it, untill you reach an advanced level, where you really start enjoying what you can do... Only the best teachers are able to give the students some fun bits scattered all along the learning curve...
I get his point. Getting to learn something can be challenging because of the boring instructions but his way of thinking is very smart because micro mastery makes a lot of sense. In my point of view, Micro mastery is when finding a simpler way of learning something than the traditional. And this doesn't require 10k hours or spending a lot of money for education but finding a simple way and practicing it every week or day whatever it makes learning better and more than I thought. I tried to find that recently and Im making progress
I'm sure it took me 10,000 hours of playing Yu-Gi-Oh throughout the years to fully master it, and even when new formats, and rules get placed, I found that using Lightsworns are the best way to go, and I never stopped with that deck when playing in ranks.

not if your average world-class competiters have 20 000 hrs experience. if you're factoring in competition, then the only criteria is how much your competitors work, compared to you, it's not abstract. (i mean there is also the criteria of "how" yo work, the method counts, but I meant, as a quantitative based criteria)
Pretty good and inspiring speech. When you feel that you can quickly use what you have learnt and start creatively experimenting, it will feel more meaningful. It is a way of directing your focus from some external pressure "I have to become an expert and study for year" to internal motivation where you curiosity is the driving force.
We give kids breaks during school because we KNOW what they are doing in between is no fun. Learning can be fun and challenging - about nobody has figured how to accomplish this!
First, you have to master yourself.. Being patience, being discipline, and master your skills and craft in trading. Like managing your risk, your analysis, reading the chart. Etc.
what I do is I force myself to think about the application of physics, think about flow rate and equations of fluid dynamics when you are taking a shower the next time, or maybe science behind tornadoes or equations of thermodynamics when you are sitting in air conditioner. You can go on!
@@priyanshu5098 Your answer can be summed up as 'be inspired' and for most people this will depend on a mentor/teacher. Passion is contagious; at least 1/2 of teachers would prefer to do be doing something else; you can see this in the quality and motivation of students

I appreciate his philosophy very much. This is inspiring for hobbies and enjoying life and simply enjoying learning something new. However.. we must be careful because this is clearly misleading and NOT mastery of an art and not to be compared to that topic, which is what the 10,000 hour rule was referring to - a deep mastery of an entire field / art form. The title of this talk should be changed IMO. Otherwise, I appreciate his inspiration to just go learn something new and get skilled at it!
I disagree with the title, I get his point but if you really want to be great at something you better do it as much as you can, who you rather hire a drummer who barely practice or a drummer that has 10,000 hours of practice? Who will win a fight between a mma fighter that trains three days a week or a guy who goes to the gym twice a day 6 days a week? Is simple you want to be the best then do the grinding first
And why would you want to be the best ? You don't need to be the best writer before you write your book. a lot of mid level book writers can make enough money to support themselves. You don't need the best drummer to work in the music industry And who is the better fighter ,the one who spends all his time in the gym on the bags ,or the one who spends his limited time in the ring. A good example are old ace pilots , they became the best because they were pushing themselves to new levels during practice (showing off) and then transferred those skills to combat ,they didn't become aces because they did the same thing for a long time
