I've watched all of Mike's videos and a lot of Ted Talks. For some reason, RUclips didn't recommend me this video for a whole year, I really don't understand it
Lol same here. Found his channel awhile ago because I really like the concept and I’ve been watching TED for a few years. Seems the algorithm just put those two interests together and I’m definitely happier for it.
This man inspired me to learn new things, i've followed him for about a year, i learned to juggle, do muscle ups, write with my left hand, make animations, do a backflip and a couple of other skills, i did it because he inspired me, and thats pretty cool ngl
I've just found him literally a couple of days ago and I'm in the same boat. I've started with juggling and it's going really well. How hard is animation?
I really really love his approach to life: trying to expand your horizons by going out of your comfort or "wired" zone. That being said, we have to admit that most of the skill he has learned are either tricks (breaking a glass with voice, juggling, throwing an axe, splitting an apple etc.) or developed to entry-level proficiency (skiing, shooting a rifle). The learning curve is steep in the first part in most of these (meaning you can get to be ok-ish in a reasonable time). Moreover, some skills borrow from others. For example, limb coordination is developed in both skateboarding and ski. Knowing chords helps when learning violin if you've been playing guitar for x years. What I'm trying to say is that none of these will land you a living in that specific field unless you develop them with extra hours and hours to make you a teacher or a professional. For hobby-level, though, I think all of us should challenge ourselves to try something different. I'm not trying to take away from Mike, what he does is amazing, nonetheless, and is inspiring to anyone who feel stuck.
RUclips has been doing this lately. I wonder if they are trying to hide things 😅 I've watched this video before I just was bored so I might as well watch it sgain
I'm 14 and during quarantine i saw a few juggling tricks then i got fascinated and i wanted to learn it and when i was learning i saw a few people who learned to juggle for 30 secs in less then 5 hours while it took me 12 hours to do so but then i saw mike's video and then i decided that i wanna learn more skills.....it doesnt matter how long it takes as long as you are not stopping
Great Ted Talk Mike. At 46, you've inspired me numerous times over the past several years. Now my family asks when I'm joining the circus with some of the skills you've inspired me to learn.
His channel is seriously one of the most uplifting and motivating things to watch. His genuine, genuine excitement when he does the thing for the first time on video is soooo amazing and INSPIRING.
This is very inspiring! Fear is the biggest enemy and sometimes all you need is to get past that feeling. I do believe each person is flexible enough to be good at a couple of things. We just need to venture out and find it actively.
You're my new hero and online mentor! I'm always trying to learn new skills and right now I'm focusing on AI Art generation with Midjourney, ChatGPT for marketing and research, upleveling my graphic arts skills with Kittl, my video editing with Final Cut Pro X, how to sell on Etsy, and more. I have read lots of books and learned a lot from "The Art of Learning," by Josh Waitzkin, "Make it Stick," and many others that focus on learning better and faster. I can't wait to dig into your content and know I'll enjoy it and learn a ton from your findings.
My key takes: What can you learn in 10h? You can be a math guy and a creative one. Ignore negative thoughts in the begining. Learning dosen't take long The preconception of what you can and can't do are a myth You can learn french and work in astrophysics
He inspired me to learn new skills. Because of him, I can now juggle, spin a basketball on my finger, and solve the Rubik's Cube In under 1 minute. THANK YOU Mike Boyd
Like so many people have already commented, I find it astonishing that more people have not watched this. Sure, 151 K views is A LOT, but Kaufman's talk on learning something in twenty hours has been viewed more than 30 MILLION times. Watch both and try something new!
I’m watching this video for motivation and inspiration. I ride MTB and know a lot of skills like manuals endos bunnyhops etc, but the one trick i really struggle with is Wheelies i can wheelie a distance but can’t hold it i’ve been trying to practice, but it’s like i don’t make any more progress, so now i’m watching this video to get inspiration to get the wheelie done. I’ll be back 6 months on hows my progress.
Love Mike's channel. However, a lot of people take 10000 hours in a wrong way. It doesn't tell you how much time it takes you to learn a new thing. It tells you how to become a master in one craft. Repeated practice of ten thousand hours doesn't take you anywhere. Deliberate practice, upping the obstacles for 10000 hours is what makes you a true master of your craft. So if you want to learn a lot of things, 20 hours should be good enough for you to learn nearly anything. But if you truly wanna become a master, it's gonna take you 10000 hours for sure
i recon 20hrs is for generally easier skill, it would be interesting to see what a doctor can learn in 20hrs, or what an engineer can learn in 20hours, things that are simply operational, very possibly in 20hrs like ping pong or badminton, but to be an engineer, like can you study the entire subject of aerodynamics in 20hrs, study past year question maybe.
@@osirusj275 You can break down almost anything complex into multiple simpler skills required to achieve it. Then you can perhaps have an easier start by learning one small skill at a time in no more than 20 hours
Yeah you can still learn a lot of different skills even when we are old, after all this is why we evolve to have this brain. But there are certainly things we can never learn when we get older, like perfect pitch and reaction capabilities. It's harsh truth but there are things we will never learn if we missed the right time, and this golden time is when we are still children.
God! Why is the audience so dull. Seems like they woke up in the middle of the night to be here. This talk is so good. Should have received a lot of hooting and claps.
shocked that why RUclips recommended this video this much later I had seen lots of his videos I had seen lots of Ted talks then why this much late and only 136 comments till now
wow I have never seen such an uncomfortable audience, in a good way. at 13:36 he is telling people they are amazing, they need to believe in themselves and go do what they love, what they want to do, and you can see every one in the audience is having their lifelong beliefs challenged. By 14:56 they have calmed down, though half still have their arms crossed, not totally believing in themselves, and at 14:59 the girl in the fuzzy sweater is starting to believe in herself, pondering the possibilities of things she wants to learn...
Why haven't people checked the actual 10,0000 hours rule? It's not in Any particular field, but in a very narrow field like one which has very little research on it. Meaning the 10k hours is the max it would take for someone to master something.
This video needs a 10 thousand times the views it has currently
it doesnt need 300 million views
William Perez loooooool
Yeeehees it would be 338.570.000 views but yeah then it would be enough :)
it only needs around 100-100 times the amount of views now
The information in this TED Talk was like a 5-star gourmet meal, it's just such a shame that Mike served it on a paper plate with plastic utensils.
