  • Patterns govern our existence. There are patterns in:
    -- human behavior (personality types)
    -- animal/insect skins (spots, stripes, scales)
    -- gene expression (helicases, double helixes)
    -- cracks (120 degree angles on elastic material vs 90 degree angles on inelastic material)
    -- human movement (our R vs. our L, and how they are not the same but tend to follow familiar patterns)
    The list can seem endless if we really start to dive deep. But, all that to say: because patterns are fundamental to our existence, when we can quickly recognize patterns - either dysfunctional patterns of human behavior or human movement - this allows us the ability to quickly dive into changing those patterns to solve the root cause of the dysfunction rather than attempting to fix the symptom (as so many of us are taught to do).

    If you’re watching this as a clinician, coach, or practitioner, then hopefully this helps to either reframe your mindset or remind you to look at these larger concepts in patterns rather than getting pigeon-holed on the minute and often misleading bits of information. You’ll likely go much further much faster this way. Remember: if you’ve tried everything to solve a problem and it still isn’t fixed, maybe consider that you’re trying to solve the wrong problem. You’re better off seeing how a diagnosis or injury fits into a pattern rather than attempting to understand and fix just the injury site itself (the latter yields worse results, trust me, I’ve tried).
