  • The infamous "squeeze your shoulder blades down and back" is short-sighted and often an incorrect cue to give to most patient populations.
    Shoulder blades need to move, particularly into upward rotation. The relationship between a convex thorax and a concave shoulder blade need also be heavily considered.
    Most people with shoulder dysfunction and subsequent pain have a rib cage that is too extended, or too compressed from the back.
    Pinching shoulder blades down and back = more compression. Likely not what someone needs who is already too compressed from behind.
