"I'm gonna use gestures cause I'm not an animal" might be my favorite line from any of your vids, sir.
As also an owner I can tell you that it is the best ARM handheld in the market.
Why you hate animals bro?
@@emiliof.8261 why you like ARM bro?
@@StevenSpergburg 'cause they are not 10 inch Intel processors that overheats and a power hog.
ARM makes more sense on mobile, tablet, handheld and some laptops (especially M1 Macbook Pros)
@@StevenSpergburg I have two arms. Big fan.
Thanks to Taki for showing us its existence. Would never have known about it otherwise so I hope they give you the proper props for getting the word out. Lots of skeptics out there about this one and to see it finally come out and be this good is awesome to see. Can't wait to get mine after CNY.
HOW are you so RICH? Like ALL the modern AMD & Snapdragon handheld this is ONLY available for the RICH, so I dont know how they even make money since they are only selling to the 0.3% of gamers, AKA the RICH gamers. I PRAY these human cancer scumbags go bankrupt, its sickening. I hope some company/person who actually has morals makes a handheld like this, even the AYO NEO is cheaper & does MUCH more.
@@VirusOfCyrus what? I bought mone for less then 200$, what price are you talking about!? The Aya neo is 4-5 times more expensive!
@@VirusOfCyrus did you misread HKD as USD?
I think you took Hong Kong Dollars as USD. Odin isn't a device for rich gamers. smh
@@VirusOfCyrus Ayo Neo is $1300, while the Odin is only like 200-300 depending on the model. What are you smoking?
Very impressive. This is a premium product that is clearly worth a higher price. This and the Retroid Pocket 2+ make an absolute mockery of the price charged for the RG552. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the support!
Honestly, I don't think it's worth it at all, even with the price tag of €213 EUR (Not to mention that it will cost significantly more once it's launched outside of indiegogo).
Snapdragon 845 in 2022? That's kinda disappointing.
You can get a phone with a Snapdragon 860/865/780g which are leaps stronger than the 845 for the same price, in phones with better overall specs like the Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro which also has 6GB Ram and an ips screen with 120hz refresh rate and 2k resolution!! With the phone capabilities included of course.
Just get a Poco X3 Pro and slap a type-c controller underneath like the GameSir X2. Honestly that would be a much better deal.
@@FightRayTV clearly you are one of the crowd who prefer their phone with a controller and that's fine. For people who want a dedicated handheld gaming device, this is excellent value and definitely the way forward, and it's capable of running Windows which is impressive.
@@stevethorpe9755 Nah, it's not that I prefer a phone, it's just that it just doesn't worth the price tag with the older hardware just because they slapped it in a plastic shell.
@@FightRayTV To be honest phone and controller feels like cheap crap, it *works* but god damn is having a fully featured dedicated handheld with proper battery life just for gaming is so much better...
845 that isn't throttled and properly cooled (unlike any soc in a phone) can maintain peak power which is pretty huge too
Nobody’s gonna mention Taki’s insane intro sequence? Good job Taki! Nice showcase, now for the remaining videos to come. Thanks!
Wow, fucking awesome~
I've never seen a more perfect handheld on launch before. Software and hardware seems solid af 💗
Can't wait to find out how the dock works. Hope it really is like a switch and that you can just dock and undock at will to play retro games. I've been waiting years for a device that can do that properly.
They cost as much as a Switch/Lite, any reason to not just grab one of those and mod?
@@StormBurnX Tee lite doesn't dock, and the switch is definitely getting into size/build that I don't really consider handheld. Even if that wasn't an issue, i'd rather not deal with the headache of CFW's on official devices. There's an element also of I just don't want 2 switches. I'd always need to keep a non modded one to play the latest games.
@@welshmouse unless you're really heavy on online gaming, not really. I have no problem running retroarch and all the latest games on my modded switch. and even with (legit) online games you can go back to ofw and play them there without getting banned

@@StormBurnX I'm still hoping for a switch lite oled model this year that might include some sort of docking functionality (seems unlikely but a man can dream)

Love that SNES controller look. Love the screen size and button layout. Watched this whole video hoping to see what it can emulate lol, but I guess keep it coming brother.
You could just go in the taki 2 RUclips or the AYN RUclips
The official Odin RUclips channel showcases gameplay. If you want a quick and short to the point answer though it can emulate up to PS2 and GameCube although not 100% But most games when their settings are tweaked will be playable. 3DS and Switch is out of range for this handheld.
Thanks for the update Taki. ❤️
Awesome! I waited 2 years for this review 👍🏼 Thanks Taki.
I'm watching this on my Odin Pro right now! It arrived today. Thanks, Taki
Something like this was my dream before Valve blew it out of the water with the $400 Steam Deck.

This in my opinion is the Best Handheld game console I have ever played. It plays so well and the software is spot on.
Few hardware issues cropping up though .. might be something to keep an eye on!
Is it better than a switch lite?
@@julianputnam8290 yeah
As a retro gaming handheld yes, however a switch lite is obviously manufactured by Nintendo, so you get new modern AAA games from a first party developer. This plays psnw games near perfect, and Android games. So I depends what your after. I don't have the time to break down a PS2 to make a portable ps2 handheld, however with this I can switch from ps2, to n64, to psp, to GBA, to nes or even GameCube. It all depends on what you want or would suit you.
@@julianputnam8290 Not at playing switch games no .. but if you want to play retro games its great.
Awesome first look.
I was so surprised to see Super Mecha Champions! It’s a hidden gem, a real treat to have stumbled upon. So many amazing gameplay mechanics from so many of my favorite games all jammed into one anime mecha shooter with loads of personality. Glad to see another fan!
You made me aware of the existence of this and I just got my Pro yesterday. I adore this thing, it's such a brilliant lovingly well made system with a lot of potential. Now that I can actually hold it I can definitely see this having a place with the Steam Deck, its design and form is perfect for android gaming and dedicating it for a large amount of emulated games. I'm so excited for all the backers getting this soon!

Can't wait to see what the windows situation is like with it. This is extremely impressive for the price, I honestly had no idea it was supposed to be so cheap- even after hearing time and time again that "the odin is coming" 😂
If it can play Fallout 4 era games in windows this thing is a winner to me.
@brz757 agreed there, that would actually be insane performance
I think the comment got deleted, but is $2,804 Hong-Kong dollars for the top package. Its £267 which is around £100- 150 more than the retroid pocket 2 plus.

@@FFXfever Yeah and negative news travels faster and further than positive .. i mean how many ppl really will go on IGG to say that they didnt get a faulty unit.
@@MrNobodylikesyou but we're talking about a product with much smaller production line. Maybe 1000 units at most for first batch. Having bad press at this time is very concerning.
Congrats Taki and team Odin for coming through! ;)
Seeing this makes me wonder if getting a SD845 phone work a USB-C controller was the right plan on action. Yes it was a bit cheaper but this looks really nice and functions well.
I have a SD 855+ phone and a GameSir X2. I just got the Odin yesterday as well, and I can say immediately that as a dedicated gaming device, I prrefer the Odin. Also from what I have heard (though haven't tested myself), in max performance mode, the Odin performs above a SD 855+ and just below a 865.
16:9 screen ratio I prefer Odin, but I don't have it yet.
I just used my old SD820 (LG V20) with a 55 dollar Razer Kishi (it’s on sale) and bought a USB-C to HDMI with Passthrough Charging dongle. So far I’m really happy with it but I wish the ergonomics were a bit better, and that it was sturdier. The Kishi is plenty enough sturdy but I don’t really like how it can flex, and again just the ergonomics. Maybe the GameSir x2 would have been better, but I preferred the design of the Razer more. A launcher without an app drawer (like the Odin has) that works with gamepads was hard to find, and it took a lot of searching. But so far I’d say it’s pretty similar to the Odin setup. I can do pretty much almost anything the Odin can, for significantly cheaper. Tbh I wasn’t sure if the Odin was ever going to ship, and with the whole supply chain shortages happening. I figured it would be like 6 months to a year before I got one lol. The fact that the company has been so secretive, and we’ve known next to nothing about it hands-on made me extremely suspicious. Especially since I’ve never backed anything before, and didn’t want to take any chances. Don’t blame you for not being able to wait honestly. I couldn’t wait either. :S
GumbyX is an OG sub.
@@gr3ywolf144 Above SD 855+? Does that mean it's as good as an SD 860?
Who knew the 845 would be this capable overclocked. Kind of insane. Odin really did squeeze everything from the 845
The first ROG phone was the 845 and can emulate Dolphin perfect.
i do enjoy this hand held but i think i would still go with something like galaxy tab s6 128gb, 6gb of ram 855 snap dragon. only reason i'd buy this odin is cause its hand held but at almost 300 with out a dock the s6 tab seems like a better bang for the buck
Or you can buy many of the old flagship Android phones on the market that have an 835, 845, 855. The 855 is a big jump up while the 835-845 are about the same. Both are way faster than most of these entry-level devices and many can be had for about $100 in the West because the phone market is so saturated.
@@Anyguy4321 About $130 for an S9 on back market plus $80 for a Gamesir. But then you have no active cooling and that horrible aspect ratio. I'd bet $20 the $245 Odin Lite beats an S9 in sustained gaming just because of the better heat management.
I bought an gamesir and a phone, and to me, it still seemed annoying. Better performance, but just didn't feel like a solid unit. I can't really explain it. Ill go for this instead of my gamesir every time. The 16x9 screen also with no notch is far better than the weird long phones now. New phones cause large black bars. Last point is that Odin has analog triggers. The base launcher could use some improvements though
Forgetting the difference in form factor, the SoC difference won't affect much. the SD 855 is 30% faster, yes, but this is already fast enough for 95% of the stuff you touch, so SoC improvement won't be by much.
That tablet isn't even remotely portable so... not comparable.
Cheers Taki, looking forward to the future videos. The wait seems to have been worth it, looking like a good experience so far.
9:11 Don't forget, we also have a dark mode, OR a light mode theme !!
22:25 Oh and in case you missed it, Taki's had less time to test the ABXY buttons because they were a recent change~

Read the price wrong it was in HKD instead of USD. USD it's about $200. Not a bad deal. Still I think I'll try for the RP2+ since it's cheaper.
The build quality is actually pretty high, impressive !!
Great video as always! Odin look great, mine arrives today and I should have a video out by Friday. Really gald to see the quality seems good on the production unit!
This was a great review. With the ability to convert your phone into a gaming handheld, this fills a really small space. You want an additional device to your phone, that requires you to still have a phone. Android games are currently fairly limited, where the switch library is massive. Outside of 3 or 4 android games, this is mostly for emulation, but it can't run the higher end emulators like ps2 well. If they tried to include a current flagship chip, it pushes the price into the $400-$600 range where is will struggle to compete with other devices. Granted, I am sure some people would still buy it if they made it an option.
Razer recently made a development handheld with a gen 1 processor. Hopefully with all the horsepower that gives to android, developers will make more games for the platform so the purchase is more enticing in the future.
Honestly, ps2 is mostly up to optimisation on the emulator side. It hasn't been long since we finally got our first proper ps2 emulator in aether sx2, which is still in a early stage. Many games already work well, even on odin and as development continues the library of playable ps2 games will only grow
Android nearly has 500,000 games compared to Nintendo's 5000 games. Yes most of them maybe are bad but yeh they are free and I find mobile gaming fun.
@@zofar9565 The number of them that require a snapdragon 845 are pretty few. You can get a new phone to play the vast majority of them for about $99, or a used phone with a 855 for about $100.

Thanks for the update Taki! 2 questions: How much storage did all your apps use? Wondering if 64gb was enough. And can you format an sd card to be used as internal storage?
All the stuff I used in this video took half the storage. I will use a set of SD cards for emulation and keep the rest of the internal storage for Android apps. 64GB is more than enough. The Odins that I have used for other videos were all 4GB/64GB Odin devices.

If the button isn't clicking, the rubber post probably wasn't put in correctly. You can remove the four screens and pop off the back. Poke the rubber under the shoulder button so it is directly on top of the switch and it won't move out again. Not sure what could be wrong with the R2 since that just uses a magnet for input.

Can someone tell me why I would get the Pro/Base/Light model? It seems the Lite has Wifi6, BT 5.2, and Android 11 upgrades, but how weak is the CPU/GPU/RAM compared to the Pro?
Try to look up the processors for benchmarks. These are all mobile SoCs so the performance will be very similar to a phone with the same chip. Of course better cooling will improve it but at least you'll have a baseline.*EDIT* SoCs as in CPU and GPU combined - RAM is separate.
Man, this looks great and superb video!
Will have to see how much will it cost to import here in India

Now that they had the hardware they could use it for future versions but with better SoCs! SD888+ with active cooling could be amazing!
Yeh, the hardware is slightly dated at this point. Still great, but it no longer stands out compared to the competition for Android gaming.
Maybe Not Snapdragon 888, I Rather Had Snapdragon 860 Version Of This Device.
@@CarthagoMike I mean, compared to the Microsoft SoC and the Qualcomm 8xc this 845 without the thermal problems of passive cooling could mean a bigger boost, think that this chips are capped in both CPU and GPUs due to thermals, but their threshold is bigger, with active cooling it gets unlocked!

@@TheRealEncy Or the 870.
I ordered the Lite version (because i think it'll have better battery life and similar performance) but they haven't shipped any yet, i'm excited though!
When the steam deck comes out for about the same price it will blow everything out of the water
This is $200 or $240 and Steamdeck is $400. Also this is small and pocketable, and the Steamdeck is supposed to be massive
Mine is arriving here is the next 2-4 hours im super excited
I don´t understand why they don´t build a version with:
CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 / Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 / Qualcomm Snapdragon 870
RAM: 8GB or 16GB
Note: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 is from 2017. We need a really good chip for emulation and Qualcomm Snapdragon is the best. There is nothing on the market-specific to play emulation (we need to use a phone or a tablet).
Really good project but a bad choice on the CPU !!!
Thanks for this Crazy review! Congrats ...is always a pleasure to watch your movies! And always in right time!
I think that actually this should be best Handel atm. Nothing to compare not even with Nintendo (as build quality).
I think they may have gotten their RAM and Storage mixed up dude. There's no way in hell that's got 128 gigs of RAM and only 8 gigs of storage lol.
The Pro Version Has 8gb Rams, 128gb And Bigger Battery Than The Regular Version Which Only Had 6gb Ram.
I can't wait to receive mine! Hopefully backers don't have to wait too long to receive theirs.
Wow, this looks like an AWESOME device! Curious how/why the Lite version which is less expensive than the Base and Pro has better wifi, Bluetooth and a more upgraded Android version? Kinda strange.. Also, how long will this get Android updates for? That's the only downside with Android devices like this because if they don't continue to get updates, they eventually won't be able to play some Android games 😥
Probably because Mediatek Chipset is cheaper
The mediatek soc package is a lot never, sd845 is a great chip but not a new one
something like this should get good xda developer support. You could flash a custom rom for android updates.
It's finally here!
Question: does it have gyro?
A lot of android games support gyro aiming and I don't think I would get this without gyro.
With 2 year old tech still a beast
