    I think the reason some emulators ran terribly at first but worked fine on subsequent runs is because of texture caching. Sometimes it just needs to be cached to run smoothly

    The reason why citra is not good when playing for the first time is because it needs to cache; think of this like a save file for the emulator to help the game perform more smoothly the next time you play it. Im pretty sure this also happens on the pc and mac versions as well.

    Bob just so you know with the dock you can remove the front plastic actually. You just need to be a bit careful pulling it off. Also the dock has a Sata 2.5 inch drive slot in the back half!! So you can store larger games on the sata drive.
    I ordered the Pro and I'm super excited to get it. You can get an upgrade to 256gb, but really I think an SD card will be more than enough for cheap large storage. The difference between the base and Pro is more storage (without paying for upgrade for base), and 8gb of ram instead of 4gb.

    • @MoeMcIntyre
      @MoeMcIntyre 2 года назад +4

      Agreed, especially since it was announced at the same time as the iPhone controller support. What's worse is that button mapping software is against the terms of service so you could be banned if it's discovered you're using that to get a controller working with Android, which is ridiculous seeing as they don't seem to care about offering that support themselves.
      Wonder what's gonna come first, that controller support or the Switch version?

  • @godminnette2
    @godminnette2 2 года назад +61

    Also, Citra does a lot of caching, which means that certain animations/effects that play the first time cause a lot of slowdown, then never again. I experience something similar with Ryujinx - whenever a game plays a unique animation for the very first time, the game slows to a crawl. Whenever that animation ever plays again, even if I've closed the emulator, there's no performance dip. This was a little annoying when I played through Legends Arceus and a Noble Pokemon used an attack for the first time.

      I think the dimensity one has better battery optimization and single core performance. The owner of ayn told me that the lite is geared towards streaming, hence the wifi 6 where as the base and pro are more for emulation since SD has more developer support and can also run windows on arm etc. The only difference between pro and base is the ram really but they should perform about the same I would think.

    • @realzob
      @realzob 2 года назад +1

      probably because the sd845 was throtling inside smartphones wich limited its performances. It can run at more than full speed inside the odin, so, those benchmark won't be that close between odin base/pro and odin lite. I'd expect a very noticeable drop in performance with the lite one, because of the weaker cpu/gpu and the less commonly used GPU that implies that most emulators probably doesn't have been as much optimised for yet.

    • @AlbedoAtoned
      @AlbedoAtoned 2 года назад +5

      @@Galohide For many, the bigger size is not only not really a problem, it's actually a plus. The switch and the joycons is not particularly comfortable on it's own. Which is why most people tend to get some type of grip when playing undocked or they go for third party controller acessories like the Hori Split pad, which by the way makes the switch about the same size as the Steam Deck. Sure, with a grip or the third party joycons, the system is bigger, but the base switch model, and arguably even the lite, most aren't going to just put it in their pocket. They're going to put it in a case, preferably one that fits with their grip or controller.
      Some will even carry it with extra accessories like a pro controller. Similarly, while the Odin looks smaller, though it looks fairly ergonomic compared to the switch, I still wouldn't try to fit it in my pocket, it would get the same treatment as the switch, which is to put it in a case and maybe put that case in a bag with the rest of the stuff I want to take with me.
      A steam deck is in the same range, of put it in a case, carry it in a bag as the other two, it's not in some separate class of portables, and it's powerful enough as well as capable of playing pretty much any pc or emulated game, that one doesn't even need much if anything else, they could even potentially replace their switch for many games since Switch emulators are getting to the point they run switch games better than the actual switch.

      @@gonnsolo8506 Remapping the d-pad to the right thumbstick is such a life saver in games like Final Fantasy Type-0 and Monster Hunter. Can freely move the camera around.

    13:09 PS2 emulation you say? 👀

      Aether runs pretty much fine even with midrange processers. Most current major range and any flagship Android from the last 3 years and a dualshock (or any decent BT controller) and you're all set.

      My midrange phone with unpopular mediatek chipset can run almost all games from PS2 library with good fps, especially popular title like Final Fantasy XII, AetherSX2 definitely a big gift for smartphone user right now, run smooth even better than older one like Citra emulator.

    Very big step for emulation! Seems like a awesome upgrade for my GPD XD Plus. However I am getting a Steam Deck this year so I’m going to wait on this one for now.
