Mazda is ages better than these cars that are living off their past glory. BUT these cars are not really competing with each others like that... BMW, Mercedes and Audi are in an entirely different price range and they are selling to rich people who can change their cars every 3-4 years before they have any issues and they sell to kids with rich parents whose dad still pays for their stuff.
as I own both ( Mazda3 and Bmw), I can think of one huge difference ( for me ) which is the quality of the paint. Mazda scratches way too easily, even with being careful. Both on exterior and interior. We have it barely a year and all the doors where there is that small area that you put your hands into to grab the handle are already scratched so yeah, great car for reasonable money, but I really wished they did do a better paint job
You just saved me from having to replace the wiper arms, i was about to rip them off. Your video save me a few hundred and heart ache. Cheers mate. P.S. Mazda CX-30 2.5 litre Israel.
The auto window down made me smile. Never knew it had that feature on my 2023. Tried it and grinned from ear to ear. Super simple but handy feature on those hot hot days
Does any of this also apply to 2020 cx5. Is there any way to make heated seats turn on on switching the car on. Like older cars we can leave the switch on, so when I remote start, seats start heating up too.
@@SS-wm1wy so the CX5 does not remember anymore the heated seats were left on, likely to reduce any draw on the battery at a cold start up, thanks for adding!
Love your get to the point, no fluff, informative Rick Moranis esk delivery. Far too many people make segments like these about themselves, how hip, current and up to date their vocabulary of the moment is or about Their dealership instead of about the relay of valuable information. Thanks for this cut to the chase list of tips, features and navigation of these systems.
I appreciate that a lot, especially the Rick Moranis reference, love that guy, ya this kind of took off in a good way, and like you mentioned I have tried all of those styles and it just gets to be a bunch of BS after a while, thanks for watching and commenting, safe travels!
Hi all from Australia. Took delivery of a June 2022 build Mazda3 last August. This is the skyactiv x spark compression ignition 2 litre engine, 6 speed auto in top trim only. Not a true hcci engine but with an extremely lean(30 to 1) fuel-air ratio ignited by a rich mixture of fuel injected at the top of the compression stroke. It operates like this up to 4000 rpm providing maximum torque at 3000rpm then switching to normal stochiometric(14 to 1)operation from 4000 rpm to redline with normal revability. Fuel economy is 40 us mpg highway ( as high as 45) with urban economy 36 to 38. Our maintenance schedule is 6000 mile or 12 month schedule with severe conditions at half that. However very comfortable, quiet (48 changes to reduce noise and vibration paths in the body and subframes). Just drove it again on a couple of trips longer local running around, noticed the subtlety of the suspension tuning and rear axle is not jumpy. Nothing has gone wrong, everything works and the quality of the assembly/design is first rate. Blind spot monitoring easily makes up for the c-pillars and the driving position can be adjusted for anyone over 6 foot. Great distance car. Cheers
Wow thanks for sharing I really would love to have that engine here! What a machine and, design and engineering to be proud of, does it have paddle shifters on that as well? it looks like you said it is 6 speed auto?, Safe travels congrats!
I drive a 2018 and in the coming years I'll upgrade. I have to say that this video was informative and to the point. Gives me info on updates and quirks to note. Love the format.
Hi, I just traded in my 2017 Mazda 3 GS hatch with luxury package and got a 2024 Mazda 3 GS hatch with luxury package. Thank you very much for your video. It definitely helped when researching what car to get next, and now that I have it, reviewing and learning about some features in the new model.
that rain sensing option for the wipers is very important going into a car wash. wonder how many people have got their wipers torn off forgetting to disable it or not knowing how to disable it
Thanks for covering this useful topic. Having to activate the special, multi-push button for "service mode" to raise the wiper blades, then lower them, and how to resolve the inadvertent nudging of the volume knob "permanently" turning off the info screen are both indications, to me, of an unnecessarily, overly-complex machine (which, I'm sure, is industry-wide, anymore). When a vehicle you live with daily requires returning to the owner's manual for what should be a simple operation, they've gone too far. And yes, I still drive my simple, 22-year-old vehicle, wanting something new, but...
well its funny, I am in possession of an old 23 year old cherokee, I plan to revive for daily use, and have my 10 year old current daily, our 21 mazda 3 sits and used by my wife as she works from home, but nice for updated safety or long trips etc, but I actually think, the younger drivers really like figuring this kind of stuff out, tech or difficult to understand features, if there his a hidden trick to any new product, some people just gobble it up and, become more interested, its weird. one of those things this new auto tech, and sometimes there is nothing more fun than having a bitchfest online or in a forum for some. i.e. the facebook forum for mazda 3 2021+ there is hardly a nice word about the product on there. Thanks for adding and watching!
I'm with both of you, sadly my 17 year old Pontiac roadster just got totalled at the end of 2023 by a distracted driver rolling right in front of me. So viewing videos like this are helping me narrow down to a viable new daily driver so my 7 year old car can become my new project car 🤣
Amen! I've had it less than two months and hate the car. Like always, I needed a car yesterday because I hit a deer, and this was the most affordable. They over-engineer everything these days. 2014 Focus, RIP.
Hi James, another quick observation on the Mazda 6 speed auto. Many times I have found myself shifting down on the paddle and find the the transmission was already in the lower gear so I leave it alone until I need engine braking or quick acceleration without having to wait for kickdown. Tuned to respond quickly and very much the best of torque converter autos and smoother than any dual clutch system. Despite the rear suspension being non independent, much more durable and easier to maintain without the myriad of bushings in other systems. Great video channel, to the point. Take care.
Great video!..bought a 2023 Mazda 3 hatchback and drove it from New England to Arizona last summer even visited my friend in Chicago..fun car to drive and great for road trips...I will do it again this year heading Washington State!...👍
Thanks for adding, that beats my trip from CHi to LA! But I was satisfied too! Mountain sweeps and handling, fuel economy, interior comfort etc, Safe travels and thanks for watching!
I'd love if they brought back the rear suspension from the Focus. It did need some extra upkeep, but it dramatically improved handling. Considering the car's audience (people who live to drive and don't want to drown in tech), I think it would be a good move. Either that, or a new compact four-seater that's a bit 'zoomy', sort of like if a Volvo C30 and a Mazda2 had a baby.
That's interesting 🤔 I don't recall Ford parts since maybe 2009 or 2010, back when Mazda used the volvo s40 platform is that what you mean? I think they wouldn't even have much room to even do a fully independent on this setup, but I'm not an engineer lol, I wish that we carried the new Mazda 2, I'd drive one, but it's only overseas, thanks for watching!!
JUST FYI if you leave your dome light on it WILL kill the battery. Mine is a 2015 and that happened. I left mine on for 3 days (no I dont drive much) and yep it was dead . But. LOVE LOVE my mazda 3 this is my 3rd one❤
@@JamesOrtonVideo man if the interest rates weren’t so high for used cars (money factor on my lease is .00132=3.20 apr more or less) but I would totally go a few years back and get me a turbo. @@IAmJeka you got the right idea, you might miss a little bass component to your listening but the speakers are so well placed I dont think you will be dissatisfied, or you can add a small subwoofer no biggie, safe travels and thanks for watching!!
Hi James, a great option to have available with Mazda’s own 6 speed auto. Paddle shifters standard fit allowing immediate downshift and holding until using the throttle on downhill or finish acceleration and reverts to D. You have the option of selecting manual also and holding a gear(very useful in hilly areas).Unfortunately after three years in this model and update(taillight led’s mostly) the option of skyactiv x and manual transmission in the rest of the Mazda3 range have been removed. Not enough people specified either( less than 3% for manual) couldn’t see the value. A very relaxing car and quite able to hit the redline. Still able to achieve .82 G’s on a skidpan on factory tyres. Enjoy.
What options are there if I want remote start on my key fob? I have looked and watched a lot of videos, but none answered my question. If you could advise me on this, please. Thanks!
Hey thanks for watching and adding, the dealer should have a resource for an aftermarket installer for a keyfob remote start, to bypass the mymazda app remote start, in another forum some said that "Start X" was an easy plug and play as well, safe travels!
I have a 2021 Mazda 3 and when I press the unlock button 4 times and hold the windows do not open, I have tried several times, is this a feature that only applies in North America or to the 2023 model?
Who the heck wants to be playing around with this crap when you're driving on the highway and you need to focus on the road? I'd rather have manual windows than all this stupid stuff that is put in these cars simply because they can and not because it's convenient
What crap are you referring to? Power windows, airbags, ABS, rear view camera, radial tires, disc brakes, fuel injection? What century are you living in? Try to keep up or just get left behind.
You should have mentioned the coolant temp gauge as well, that intended operation is for the gauge to drop due to cylinder deactivation. This was very concerning to me when i first bought the car,but the dealer confirmed its working as intended
I made the mistake of getting the turbo version and it's got a recall from Mazda for a valve issue that causes it to burn oil. They worked on it, but oil loss is still happening. About 30k miles. And I was hoping to keep this car a few years, but now I doubt it.
I have an old Mazda 6 from 2006., no need to click-click-click before pulling windows down or up. Just press and hold unlock (for down) or lock (for up).
I actually really like the safety measures for the interior lighting and the heated seats. I've seen too many people who forget to turn off their heated seats 😑. And very nice vehicle otherwise.
@@dillonrobben4488 maybe just an old fashioned habit, but its always less draw on the operations at start up, if that makes sense, thanks a lot for watching and adding!
@@JamesOrtonVideo yeap, and maybe gentler on the battery for the long run. I use to turn everything OFF before I stop the engine, it's an habit I've had for many many years, seems to work for me. Thanks for sharing! I did not know about putting the wipers in service mode. I did not know about the difference in fuel tank sizes between the turbo and the non-turbo…😊
Thank you for being super clear and straightforwardly with all this information! ❤ it’s great to know, especially since I’m doing research on potentially buying this car in the future! 🎉
@peterjordan2738 you know I have the turbo, and it can be a blast and I wanted to scca it but still haven't, I think another one but NA is in the future I like the shifting better and I can run race fuel in it which is fun too, thanks for adding and watching

Glad to hear you got something from this, it's not all the time the surge happens, but can be startling if not ready, thanks for watching and adding to the discussion!
They're definitely not telling anyone how awful the "active cylinder control" is, especially in the 2024 Manual trans Premium, like mine. The vibration at lower speeds in 2-cyl mode and switch from 4 to 2 on the highway should set the MIL. Worse than misfires on other cars. Dealer says this is "normal". My first and last Mazda.
Think I lucked out on the 2021 manual cuz I don’t have the cylinder deactivation and I always hear others complain about it. Think it was only on the autos in the early years
Hello, I recently bought a 2024 Mazda 3 hatchback turbo premium plus. I noticed that when I’m in idle the car vibrates just a tiny bit, it’s not noticeable but when I pay attention to it i can feel it. Is that normal ?
Congrats! I think I know what you're talking about, you could be feeling any number of vibrations but try seeing if next time the car is on angle(muffler hangers) or its cold out(built up ice or its weight), if there are no lights or indicators you should be fine and normal operation, safe travels and thanks for watching
Thanks for watching and congrats on your mazda 3, you can find adjustment for that in Settings- Center Display-Day/Night Mode, also you can check the level of brightness and contrast within there, not specifically the camera but the whole display, hope that helps

I'm stuck between the Mazda 3 Turbo, CX30 turbo, and the CX50 non turbo(better mpg). My favorite look is from this one you have in the vid but my worry is winter roads. I'm also from the Chicago area and drive an hour north to work and worry about handling, even with awd. Have you or anyone else driven this in winter? Any feed back would be great! Thanks!

Traded up to the 50 with the all terrains on the Meridian, incredible in the snow. Awesome year round vehicles. Btw my son has a 5 and no issues either.
Great video. Thanks! Actually I had the screen disappear on me and it took me half a day to figure out how to get it back. I have a new '23 x186e mild hybrid 2liter model in Europe. The dealer, the car screen service info, and the manual specify the first oil change around 18000-20000km(12000miles). Seems awfully late to me. Especially since it is a brand new engine. What do you think? Should I "force" them to change it now when I have around 8,500km(5300miles)?
Wow you have a hybrid Mazda 3? That would be gold here, if the owners manual states the same you should be fine, synthetic oils have an incredible long life now a days, congrats on the ride and thanks for viewing and adding feedback, safe travels!!!
Thank you! I went for the sedan in the Mazda soul red. It's beautiful. Overall the mild hybrid is a great car. Great handling and all, the only thing is the power. For a 2liter engine with 186HP there seems to be a lack of torque. If you wanna take over someone, you really gotta downshift. Other than that I love it!
@user-iz6yt7uq3b is there a sport mode? Manual? Or paddle shifters, I do love the 2.0 block, those are pretty much discontinued here, is it the skyactiv x engine sorry for all the questions, just would love to have that tech and setup here,
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have! My model is a six speed manual. I could have gone for the 2.5 liter engine - with the sport mode button- but that one only comes with an automatic transmission here. My 2.0liter model is called "e skyactive x 186". The manual car doesn't have the sport mode. I wish it had it though..I'm a pretty analogue guy, but my motorcycle has that sport mode function and I love it..
What do you mean “force them”? It’s your vehicle, do it when you want. 18K-20K is ridiculous, why not be proactive on an expensive piece of machinery and do it now? In Canada I change all my vehicles every 5000kms, or twice a year whichever occurs first. Severe climate differential from summer to winter puts my vehicles into a severe duty category. For the price of the oil and filter, pretty minor expense to err on the safe side.
How do you mean functionality in the HUD, The Active Driving Display, or the Mazda Connect Screen? I have yet to see anything other than nav, speed and traffic signs displayed in the ADD, thanks for watching.
@@JamesOrtonVideo I think I read somewhere that the Active driving display that projects on the windshield will now display navigation from CarPlay/android auto. I think it already does this in other Mazdas.

Thanks for the information. I recently learned about the "service mode" for the windshield wipers, which is very convenient when washing your car so that the area can be cleaned properly.
More convenient would be to not have to go through all the b.s. for a simple task. Have had my Mazda3 for less than two months and hate it because of stupid crap like this. Will lose my azz, but it will be gone next year.

I have a 2019 Mazda 6 that at 5,000 miles on oil got a low oil level light. I'm at 45,000 miles did the oil change and got 4.5 quarts out. Doesn't seem like I should be getting that light with that oil level when full is 5.1 quarts.
I've been trying to buy one of these and it's been a chore. Want a sedan? Not with that transmission! Want a manual transmission? Oops, no AWD for you! Want a turbo 6 speed manual? Dream on! Want a red interior? Sure, if you change the paint.

Cheers

Congratulations! Thanks for adding to this, safe travels!
that rain sensing option for the wipers is very important going into a car wash. wonder how many people have got their wipers torn off forgetting to disable it or not knowing how to disable it
Ya, I wonder too, thanks for adding and watching!!
Even easier to turn the wipers off of auto mode from that lever to the right of the wheel
Mind blown on the wiper service mode. It was super annoying not being to put them up in Wisconsin snow storms.
Take care.
couldnt have said it better myself, rear suspension and utilization of the transmission, thanks so much, cheers mate!
The radio is amazing for those that love EDM!
I thought the valve guide issue was addressed in the late 21 model year? According to the tsb for this
Just bought 2024 Carbon Edition Turbo WOW what a machine
Congratulations! Safe travels, thanks for Watching!
I have the same car absolutely love it
does the cylinder deactivation cause any issues with the 2023 & 2024 mazda3's?
not that I ve heard or seen with techs
Yeah.. nothing Ford related in these cars. Ford used Mazda engines and parts.. not the other way around.
JUST FYI if you leave your dome light on it WILL kill the battery. Mine is a 2015 and that happened. I left mine on for 3 days (no I dont drive much) and yep it was dead . But. LOVE LOVE my mazda 3 this is my 3rd one❤
Very nicely done James, I am considering buying a 2024 and these little tips are very important to note!
Glad it was helpful!, thanks for watching!

Enjoy.
I still have the first iteration of the skyactiv 6 speed Rev matching auto, love it and use it often, thanks for the info!
That could very well be I think for safety given your area
Who the heck wants to be playing around with this crap when you're driving on the highway and you need to focus on the road? I'd rather have manual windows than all this stupid stuff that is put in these cars simply because they can and not because it's convenient
Available in 2022 on the higher trim levels.
What crap are you referring to?
Power windows, airbags, ABS, rear view camera, radial tires, disc brakes, fuel injection?
What century are you living in?
Try to keep up or just get left behind.
@@dampergoldenrod4156 you do comprehend that feature is there to get your windows down before entering the vehicle.
You should have mentioned the coolant temp gauge as well, that intended operation is for the gauge to drop due to cylinder deactivation. This was very concerning to me when i first bought the car,but the dealer confirmed its working as intended
Thanks for adding to the discussion 👍 safe travels and thanks for watching!!
I made the mistake of getting the turbo version and it's got a recall from Mazda for a valve issue that causes it to burn oil. They worked on it, but oil loss is still happening. About 30k miles. And I was hoping to keep this car a few years, but now I doubt it.
Nice feature on the windows with the remote. Can they be raised up with the remote too. '23 turbo
Not so far in everything I've tried, thanks for watching and adding
I have an old Mazda 6 from 2006., no need to click-click-click before pulling windows down or up. Just press and hold unlock (for down) or lock (for up).
My European 2020 skyactiv-X don't have this fonctionality, my 2009 3 had it, I'm like a bit frustrated : ]
I actually really like the safety measures for the interior lighting and the heated seats. I've seen too many people who forget to turn off their heated seats 😑. And very nice vehicle otherwise.

Are the taking the Bose out of the carbon editions for 2024? I just see an 8 speaker system listed in the ones I've looked at.
That is the move on the 24's :(
@@JamesOrtonVideo that sucks. Guess I'll have to find a remaining 2023 to get one that still has it. There is no premium sedan for 2024 and the premium hatch is manual transmission only so no other options to get the Bose in 2024 I guess.
Thanks for sharing! I did not know about putting the wipers in service mode. I did not know about the difference in fuel tank sizes between the turbo and the non-turbo…😊
Glad to help, tank sizes are different when AWD vs FWD, thanks for watching!!
Will the 4 clicks on the remote to roll down the windows work on the CX-5 as well?
Depending on the year I think it might have been a late 23 model year programming

How do you stop the windshield wipers when you go in the car wash?
Move the wipers off of auto, I believe it's one notch up in direction

yes definitely bring it up and address it right away at your first visit to note the issue, safe travels thanks for watching!
Thank you! Very informative and specific, ie gas cap hanger, or extra fuses, but important the surge when the car is put in reverse that I am happy to be aware of.
Glad to hear you got something from this, it's not all the time the surge happens, but can be startling if not ready, thanks for watching and adding to the discussion!
Have a 22, it’s never surged going into reverse. Was it still on warm up high idle?
what are your setting for the Bose system?
On this occasion I had it at factory settings 👌, but at home its usually pretty bassy and mid treble
Is that the cylinder deactivation on a manual transmission?
Think I lucked out on the 2021 manual cuz I don’t have the cylinder deactivation and I always hear others complain about it. Think it was only on the autos in the early years
The turbo trims do not have cylinder deactivation.

Do you know if there will be an update to the 2023 software so that I can have the same CarPlay functionality in the HUD like the 2024 models now get?
How do you mean functionality in the HUD, The Active Driving Display, or the Mazda Connect Screen? I have yet to see anything other than nav, speed and traffic signs displayed in the ADD, thanks for watching.

@lukasreznar3667 ahh, I was thinking that it might be a global thing, cheers, thanks for watching and the info 👍
If you want to shift gears why don't you but a MT instead?
So other family that drives the car can use if not a manual driver, also the turbo doesn't come in manual, thanks for adding 👍
So this don’t work on 2019?
@@tehbeardedflip8828 which part 🤔
I almost got one last year. I guess that's why I keep looking at videos. My wife just couldn't see out of it. So we got a M & M, Aka Honda Civic.
Turbos need a warm-up, and lesson the life of your engine. Stay away from turbos unless racing is your thing.
I dont like the cupholders in front of the shifter thats just asking for a spill
The most important thing is since recently the beeping and the lane assist you need to switch offupon each start. I have mine 5 days and amready to leave it on a railway crossing I am hating a car I just got new where I always enjoyed cars bought second hand.
well, if you indeed know that it is lane assist bugging you, I can help with that, go into mazda connect safety settings and modify it, so you dont have to each time
@@JamesOrtonVideo i downloaded the app and intend to try that indeed. I heard it then also switches back on with recent models but worth a shot. What I also read is that you can add it to favorites but as far as I can see it only adds contacts, adresses and radio stations. I will spend another evening looking for solutions. Imagine buying a new car thinking you will be trouble free for a while 😢
@@Niex_Knox yes its safety, im in them all day, they can be annoying but also to keep you out of harms way, I have full time deactivated my lane departure, unless its pouring rain and its hard to see the lanes or lines in travel, you wont be able to save to favorites, just our newer models have some of those features of saving more vehicle functions to favorites, best wishes and safe travels!! Congratulations!!
Thanx for the fast replies. Tried the app but it does not have such features. Maybe a country thing I am in the EU. I can however lock doors and see how much fuel I have from indoors I feel much better now. The favorites thing not working is a bummer. My last hope is someone who can work on the software or I may resort to blinding the camera. It is just so annoying, I can imagine situations where it helps but I just hate it vigorously. It feels like I am launching an airplane as I go through all the "unchecks" before take off.
5000 miles (7500 km) oil change?? is it 1940-s? No car maker recommends faster intervals than 10 - 20 000 miles (15 - 30 000 km).
stop by your local Mazda dealer and check the owners manual, I made sure to preface that comment, with the huge discussion that can be had about the topic, geography, opinion and maintenance preferences, thanks for watching.
nice video intro. liked the audio.
Thanks a lot for listening 🎶 and watching!!
Thanks for tthese details because i'm waiting for my mazda 3 4x4 👍
Good choice!
4x4?
It’s got a transfer case and low range?
4x4 it's all-wheel drive(in france)

AWD grasshopper.
The window down does not work on mine
May have started 2021
@@JamesOrtonVideo it's a 2023 model...any ideas?
@@IluSsIoNnN what trim?
@@JamesOrtonVideo it's the "plus" version. From Europe.
Basically it has everything (BOSE, design pack, safety pack) except the leather seats (this was another pack that I didn't want)
Engine is Skyactive G150 hp, automatic.
@@IluSsIoNnN Ok I see there must be a regulation on that or some reason like that they dont want that in that market, sorry nice ride though congrats!
Sticking to the Gen 3s.. torsion beam rear in Gen 4 vs. Independent rear suspension in Gen 3.
Most of us will never tell the difference. While the new one is so much quieter and refined. Totally different league. No comparison.
Great video, might be my next car, I really like my current Mazda 6, but they don’t make them anymore.
Thanks a lot, yes sad about the 6, I wish it would have sold more but the market calls for AWD or SUV, nice ride, safe travels!!
@@JamesOrtonVideo Last week I hit 374K miles,runs beautiful. I maintain it well.
@@toguro1009 Wow, thats honestly the highest miles I have heard about a 6, nice work!!
@@JamesOrtonVideo I have seen an ‘09(mine is a ‘10) ad on Marketplace w/ 403K. I don’t drive a ton anymore so I won’t hit that for at least two years.
I would like to get another 6 as a backup.
I have the Chiltons service manual for it, the only issue with my car is the trans axle seal leaks, not terrible. I’ve changed my trans fluid, just pulling the plug, 3.4 quarts and some Lucas, never a complete flush. Trans still works excellent.
Best car I have ever had.
@toguro1009 that's good to hear especially on what to expect with higher miles, the other higher mile 6 I've heard of is darius builds channel
great video
Thanks for the visit
