Thank you for the entertainment as always OddBawZ. It seems like you have more fun when playing and chatting with others, which is how this game should be played imho. I discovered a while ago that in War Thunder I get the most joy from playing French and British tech tree (as well as the other minor nations that have enough of their own line up to not just use the big 3's good vehicles). Reason seems to be when playing USA, Germany, USSR I can get 4-8 kills semi reliably while fighting for capture points and stuff (not map edge camping, I get bored when not moving) and be like "yep.. next game". Playing the French/British/etc I can get 2-4 kills and if we manage to win I feel like "yep, we earned that". It's really weird because it's not like you don't have to play half decent with the big 3 to earn a good result...
I remember when I first started I mained the brits up until about 5.0 then decided to give the russian tanks a try. It was like easy mode, almost boring. 5 years later I'm still a Brit main. There's just something very cool about British tanks to me. The 2pdr, 6pdr and 17pdr are my favourite guns in the game. There's something satisfying about dissecting tanks one shell at a time. Then the occasional 1 shot kill is just so wholesome.
I had exactly the same experience. Always played British tanks and am an average player. I hopped into a t34/KV1 once and got twenty kills in a single game.
I noticed the same with the Begleit AP. Had a Turms side in and fired 10+ rounds until his crew died. The Ammo didn´t go up. Checked later in tank inspector and was dissapointed. 57mm AP, even a direct hit, juts made things orange. Spall was hardly doing anything. Same shot with Puma APFSDS and everthing I hit was immediatly destroyed, also not a lot of spall, but I thing it did more.
I remember when the solid shot had more pen than the APHE on most of the tanks. Had fuck all for spalling but if you hit ammo it was reasonably effective at setting it off. Then they adjusted things.
Since they changed the stock shell of the M1 cannon, I have found myself accidentally bringing M79 over M62 in some games where I decide to revisit the other 76mm armed models of the Sherman. On one occassion I took out the M4A1 76 with my only AP round being M79 and I managed to get 9 kills in one life, I dunno what that says about the tank, tank's shell, or me but regardless, I switched back to M62 shot pronto after that hiccup.
Yep, the solid shot experience is pretty miserable in War Thunder, despite it being historically not being much different from APHE. In North Africa the 8th Army Grant tanks used captured German 75mm APHE shells as they were more effective than the solid shot AP rounds they were supplied with.
That’s because German rounds were capped, meaning they were more effective against German tanks that used FHA as armor. The Pzgr. 39 also has more performance than the US M61 and M62.
Many current players won't know this, but when the US tech tree was added... solid shot was the best ammo the 76mm gun got. My win rate at that time with any tank using the US 76mm was below 40%. I could not wait to grind my way past them back then. It's why tanks like the M18 was at BR 4.3 when it was first added. Literally my life right now as I’ve started grinding British finally from 1.0, it’s such pain. You have to shoot each person individually sometimes, especially the 57. No consistency
Illustrates why Great Britain is such a painful slog to go up, since they get no option but solid shot for most things. It's brutal. They need to improve spalling and shrapnel bouncing around or something to improve chance of killing crew.
I used both the US 76mm AP and the AP in the KV-1 while spading things. The smaller crappier KV-1 AP spalls the same or more, not kidding. There is something wrong with the US 76mm AP.
Me a British main.... "What evils dost thou speaketh of the AP?!" Me when no-one's looking.... thankful after grinding hours to get to South African HEAT rounds, no matter how poorly they pen angles.
The accent is enough for me to sit down and watch this guy play any game any day of the week!! And of course sub too. Also, welcome to our world, people like me who have to grind the whole equipment to get that good ammo
Honestly I can’t remember a time I had trouble with solid shot while going through the British tree. You just can’t assume a 1-shot by default. Just plan your attacks around taking a 2nd shot. You’ll probably get used to it after a while.
I played recently lot of tanks with british 17-pounder at 5.0-6.0 and avenger/challanger became like my favorite tank, because of the gun + mobility. The APCBC shell from 17-pounder create so much shrapnell that you can one shot panthers from the side (if you aim well enough even if you shot them at 90 angle), and with 170-190mm of pen you can pen the sides from quite steep angles. Seeing how bad the solid shot from sherman is pains me physically. Solid shots vary depending on the nation i suppose, because french shells are "ok" too.
For example, the BR-350 shells (iirc they're the ones) on the T-28 and anything else with a Soviet 76mm, basically as soon as it gets through armour it sets off what seems to be a miniature nuke
ahhhh someone vindicating the suffering i'm experiencing while grinding Britain aside from their weird decision to remove 5 degrees of gun drepession from their 76 sherman firefly/VC, making it near useless on hills, takes 2-3 shots to kill anything.
Solid AP rounds are weaker than explosive-filled rounds in War Thunder? How does that make any sense? EDIT: Five 76mm rounds to take out an M41 Walker Bulldog light tank? What the hell?
For the longest time I didn't understand the difference between the different shells and I would shoot solid shot into ammo and nothing would happen. Do it with something that has explosive filler and it would kill them so I thought solid shot couldn't detonate the ammo
Don't take it personal, but I can't finish this video, it's literally too painful. Appreciate the effort tho, I left a like and wish you sanity in your next endeavour, Odd :)
Can you do a ammo explanation with all the different tank battle ratings cuz I have started playing but don't understand the ammo and were to shoot to kill
7:00 the ammo not blowing up on the sa50, could it be because the tank uses also AP rounds with out any HE filler so you just cant ammo rack it and instead it just breaks the ammo (removes it from tanks reserve)

Currently grinding the British tech tree. It is pure pain sometimes.
AP Solid Shots in War Thunder - one of the worst-damaging ammo types
AP Solid Shots IRL - One hit and your tank is disabled...
love the duo videos! keep them coming!
this is by far my fav BR for usa. When researching the default round it sucked so bad. i feel your pain.
Look at how smooth the stabalizer is .
CLYMIDEA the second…this hurts me more than you know…lol i spat out my tea at this
Solid shot ammo is why I pretty much gave up on British tanks at rank 3. So frustrating.
Sooo… you lived the life of a British main. I did this every day for many months
I have recently started working on the British tanks so I know this pain
Big G spent 18 seconds designing the AP round thinking no sane play will ever use this…
Literally my life right now as I’ve started grinding British finally from 1.0, it’s such pain. You have to shoot each person individually sometimes, especially the 57. No consistency
Oh a colab.. sweet ❤️
YESSS SPOOKSTON AND ODD COLLABE
Bruh grinding these tanks was absolute pain because of the solid shot
Illustrates why Great Britain is such a painful slog to go up, since they get no option but solid shot for most things. It's brutal. They need to improve spalling and shrapnel bouncing around or something to improve chance of killing crew.
I Just jove it when you two play together you're the best duo ever.
I used both the US 76mm AP and the AP in the KV-1 while spading things. The smaller crappier KV-1 AP spalls the same or more, not kidding. There is something wrong with the US 76mm AP.
Me a British main.... "What evils dost thou speaketh of the AP?!"
Me when no-one's looking.... thankful after grinding hours to get to South African HEAT rounds, no matter how poorly they pen angles.
Same here, I learned the art of solid shots using the achillies (3.3 with 190mm penetration)
@@txvgq I learnt it with the ww2 challenger and matilda hedgehog, everything else usually does fine
Always nice watching your vids Bawz, but it always came to my mind the way you talked and laughed while gaming reminds me of Marleythethirteenth :)
These videos with Spookston are great :D
Totally agreed! Tried it yesterday and cant even penetrate Tiger II side from 100m
I run those ap shots I'm actually pretty good at landing shots with it. Obviously some days I just get snailed over and over again
I like how in real life there's a slight benefit to APHE, and in war thunder it might as well be a satchel charge that you inject into enemy tanks.
For example, the BR-350 shells (iirc they're the ones) on the T-28 and anything else with a Soviet 76mm, basically as soon as it gets through armour it sets off what seems to be a miniature nuke
"or as normal people call it, the ez-8" or as actually normal people call it, the sherman 76mm
ahhhh someone vindicating the suffering i'm experiencing while grinding Britain
aside from their weird decision to remove 5 degrees of gun drepession from their 76 sherman firefly/VC, making it near useless on hills, takes 2-3 shots to kill anything.
Solid AP rounds are weaker than explosive-filled rounds in War Thunder? How does that make any sense?
EDIT: Five 76mm rounds to take out an M41 Walker Bulldog light tank? What the hell?
So, I had taken quite a break from war thunder. When I got back, I couldn't figure out why I was SO bad with these craft... this explains a lot
For the longest time I didn't understand the difference between the different shells and I would shoot solid shot into ammo and nothing would happen. Do it with something that has explosive filler and it would kill them so I thought solid shot couldn't detonate the ammo
oh odd, I watched you in muffins video with the abrams vs tigers.. you showed why you are one of the top players in WT..
I thought I was going mental when I brought out my USA lineup for the first time in months if not years and suddenly was firing solid shot.
It's a giant stuart with thicker targets up until aphe is unlocked haha.
I've had all the 76 shermans since very shortlu after they were added, my favorite WW2 era gun. We just try not to look at the solid shot...
I think the stock jpz 4-5 is one of the worst experience I’ve ever had
Don't take it personal, but I can't finish this video, it's literally too painful. Appreciate the effort tho, I left a like and wish you sanity in your next endeavour, Odd :)
Can you do a ammo explanation with all the different tank battle ratings cuz I have started playing but don't understand the ammo and were to shoot to kill
Solid shot has been painful to use for AGES! France is damn painful to use as a result.
7am monday, start a week with a fun fun challenging vid. Thx ;D
7:00 the ammo not blowing up on the sa50, could it be because the tank uses also AP rounds with out any HE filler so you just cant ammo rack it and instead it just breaks the ammo (removes it from tanks reserve)
I love watching your videos while i paint lmao
Odd, for your next challenge, here's what you do - grind a stock Merkava Mk 1B or Mk 2B. No parts or FPE magic, from the ground up - at 9.0 with stock HEAT-FS, just like I've been doing :D
