  • In July 2015, I decided to walk 1,000,000 steps that month. I actually finished a couple days early. I learned five things during that month that still impact me today.
    Of course, you don't need to walk a million steps in one month to get some pretty incredible benefits from walking. If you're thinking about starting a new fitness program using walking, you're invited to check out the podcast Walking is Fitness.
    There's a new ten-minute episode every day, that I record while I'm walking too, that'll help you create a fitness habit that lasts!
    Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor nor a licensed personal trainer. before beginning any exercise program please check with your doctor to make sure it's safe for you.

    I walk 30,000 steps a day and have done for the last two years .Love walking in the French countryside here with my dogs .I am sure the locals see me as the mad English woman .I am 67 and feel as fitter than I have ever been despite a replaced hip and arthritis.I love hearing of people finding the benefits of walking

      Clearly, your commitment to walking is driven by your love of the activity. I am sure the locals notice that as much as they notice how much you're walking. I'm also sure that many are inspired...even if they never say anything to you about that. Thanks for watching!

    I have also walked a million steps. It took 12 years but it was totally worth it.

      Most of those steps were from the couch to the refrigerator and back.
      I'm glad my silly comment made you smile.
      Your accomplishments are admirable and you have my respect. I'm 66 and just getting into walking. I'm glad I found this channel and podcast.
      Have a great weekend, Marie!

    Dave is the best! I "walk" with him every morning by listening to his podcast and walking in my basement. I eagerly get out of bed at 4:30 am (really) to be able to join him! Give it a try! You'll soon find that you look forward to joining him.

    I walk almost every day, not as far as you are talking about, but Almost every day I walk around my neighborhood, I do other things since I retired like weight training a few days a week and changed my diet, It allowed me to loose weight and modify my medications for blood pressure so it has been a great benefit to my health and well being. I am almost 70 years old and looking forward to living a long and healthy life.

      I don't recommend doing a million steps a month. I did it once and am glad I did, but what you're doing is far more beneficial...intentionally walking every day. Long term consistency is better than a brief burst of mega-steps! Thanks for watching

    Hey Dave, I love to ‘see’ the walking areas from your videos that you often ‘describe’ in your podcasts! Thanks so much for the daily ‘nudge’ to keep my promise to me!

    I’m training now for the eventual goal of hiking/trail running 1 million vertical feet (305,000m) in one year. This year’s goal is 165,000m. The why is really just like you said, because it’s hard and I wonder if I can do it. Others have btw. The side benefit is the fitness I will gain for other adventures I’m planning. But I often think about what about after? I haven’t figured that out yet. 😂. But I have 2-3 years to do that. I’m building up to it slowly to avoid injury. I’m in my 60’s.

      I love this plan! There's something powerful about having a goal on the calendar. But, what I love more than that is how you're already thinking about "what's next?" I suspect that trips up a lot of folks after they accomplish something big in fitness...they haven't thought about what follows.

    I walk at least 15,000 steps a day so it takes me about 2 and a half months to reach a million steps 😊

    • @WalkingisFitness
      @WalkingisFitness  5 месяцев назад +1

      15,000 a day is wonderful! There are tremendous benefits even walking half that. That month of a million steps wasn't about the exercise, but something else...as you know from watching the video.

    You are to busy of what other people think of you. You should walk for yourself, not to motivatie orders.

    • @WalkingisFitness
      @WalkingisFitness  5 месяцев назад +3

      I'm not concerned with what others think of me. But, I do recognize when you walk every day, people notice. If they think less of me, that's fine. If they are inspired to walk more, that's a good result. And...at it's core...I walk for the love of walking...not the health benefits or what others think.
