    Underappreciated IMO. People forget how good he was because of how his career ended.

      especially near the end of his career after his injury in '11, people talked a lot of trash because he wasnt producing, but now that he is retired, people love him again, and that's the way it should be

      He could easily still be playing if it wasn't for that Achilles.

      Still cringe watching him collapse in Game 5 and doing everything he can to get back up knowing he’s got no shot of making it safe to first. No one can take away from how hard he worked to get back on the field and even keep his career alive after philly

      Man seeing him in that World Series broke my heart. Mostly cause I’m a reds fan and I completely hated the cardinals guts that year lol

    He did it the right way. Worked hard in the weight room and hit ball after ball after ball.... We can probably throw a few hot dogs and a couple of beers in there too.

    0:59 one thing I loved about Ryan’s career was how mean his opposite field power was.

      I distinctively remember a clip of him and McCarver in the booth for one of the games, they both have their jackets off (not that unusual) but McCarver was sitting on the table, and Buck was slouched back in his chair like he was waiting for his kid’s scout meeting to end but it’s running late.
      I think them and FOX were desperate for the LCS losers LA and Boston to play for the ws.

      You remember a Phils fan at the bank one of those final years in his career actually threw a beer bottle at him? Smh. I remember Ryan was pissed. He said you can boo me you can heckle but don’t start throwing stuff at me.
      I know that’s just one fan. But Ryan is a big reason why Philly became more of a baseball town again. Also was very charitable for the school district and area athletics

    He may still be DH right now if that achilles injury didn't alter his power so much, but it obviously did, he was automatic 35-40 100 RBI before it, should've easily gotten to 400 maybe 500 career HR, his number along with utley and rollins should be retired over the next few years.

    • @anonymousanonymity2815
      @anonymousanonymity2815 3 года назад

      He was already declining before the Achilles, it just accelerated it.

    • @pycellesbeard9728
      @pycellesbeard9728 3 года назад

      @@anonymousanonymity2815 I think any fan would take a few more declining seasons of 30+ HR and 110 RBI over what Howard became after the achilles, He went from 6 straight years of at least 30 HR and 100 RB1 to never hitting those numbers again, that's a huge difference and likely wouldn't have happened without that injury.

    • @anonymousanonymity2815
      @anonymousanonymity2815 3 года назад

      @@pycellesbeard9728 he wasn’t going to keep doing that through 2014. The contract extension they gave him before his original was even up was awful no matter what. What he was in 2016 where he didn’t even hit .200 would’ve happened Achilles or not

    • @pycellesbeard9728
      @pycellesbeard9728 3 года назад

      @@anonymousanonymity2815 We'll never know, He went from 33 HR to 14 then 11 then back in the 20's, those sub 20 HR seasons were ALL the achilles injury like I said highly unlikely his numbers get that bad without that injury, it's one of the worse injuries an athlete can have.

    • @anonymousanonymity2815
      @anonymousanonymity2815 3 года назад +1

      @@pycellesbeard9728 in 2013 he played half the season because he got injured after the all star break, he was on pace for those already. You just don’t sign power hitters to 20 million plus dollar contracts that take them into their mid 30s they regretted it with Howard and fans will be hating it 6-7 years from now with Harper. He has chronic back issues written all over him with how hard he swings.

    Don't compare Bryce to this big 3. Utley, Rollins and Howard were Phillies like Kelce, Cox, Graham, and Johnson are Eagles. 76ers need to draft a 3rd guy to go with Embiid and Maxey. These are franchise altering players.

    without Ryan Howard, the Phillies do not win 5 divisions, two pennants and a world series. yet Phillies fans booed him (just like Mike Schmidt) the few times he didnt come through.
    yet now, they chant mvp for the most overrated player of all time when he gets hot for 3 weeks of the entire season.
