Cute dress! (If you haven’t occasionally misplaced your sewing tools or sewn your buttons to the wrong side at least once, are you even a seamstress?🤣) You could scavenge some coordinating fabric from a fat quarter for inner pocket fabric & use your beige linen as the sides that show so you could have two pockets if you’re willing to alter your dress. I think I’d be tempted to serge all my pieces right after cutting them out since linen frays so easily. Thanks for sharing your project. 🙌🎊

Oh yes!! Why I didn’t do that is beyond me… I guess cause I was just going for it with no rhyme or reason 😂 and yes, it is recommended that you serge or finish the pieces before sewing but I am lazy and like to do everything at the same time 😏

    Looks great!
Just a couple of tips - when gathering, 2 rows of basting stitches makes a neater uniform gather!
Your bodice should have been right over left, not left over right (man style)!

Thank you for the tips! My problem is I’m too lazy 🤦🏻‍♀️ usually that’s the reason why I only do one row of stitches and usually up my tension so the machine gathers for me. Also, I can never remember which side I’m supposed to put on top so I just do whatever cause again, I’m too lazy to look it up! Maybe I’ll remember for next time 🤣🤣😓

Love this dress two questions. Just started sewing buttons have only done one garment. If I was going to use buttonholes, would I do that prior to attaching the skirt to make it easier to sew? Also could you tell us what size you picked?

Just heard medium. I got ahead of myself didn’t realize to end was last sentence !!

It’s really up to you when you’d like to add the buttons but yes, adding them before attaching the skirt would make it easier!

Great make! Question: the dress you are wearing, is it a me make and if so what is the pattern? Thanks.

Yes I made it. The gray one is a hack between the Chapman cardigan by Ellie and Mac and the staycation dress ♥️

Lovely dress ❤, I’m always tempted to try Tiana’s pattern but wanted to ask for your opinion regarding the fit of her patterns? Fit is always a problem for me so any feedback is highly appreciated ❤

I honestly have had very good luck with Tiana’s Closet patterns! That’s not to say that some may not be as good as others but the ones I’ve tried have been great!

Such a cute dress! I may need to make one.
    I have a few questions …
    1. To gather the skirt they way you did, could you also reinforce with elastic and gather it the way you did with Ellie and Macs Staycation dress?
    2. Could you serge the pieces together from the start vs basting then finishing? I’m not sure if I missed why you did that or not. Is it due to the fabric type?
    Thanks!

You usually don't need to reinforce woven fabrics with elastic as it wont stretch out on you like a knit fabric will.
You can overlock/serge without sewing on the machine first but you will need to make sure the needle thread on your overlocker/serger is at the right seam allowance otherwise the finished garment could be bigger than you expect.

Hi! You really should make one! It’s so cute and I’m sure I’m going to make many more! Yes, you could gather with elastic but it’s not needed ♥️ it will not stretch and sag as knit does. As for the basting… woven fabrics tend to fray quite a bit, if all you have is a serged edge there is a high possibility of it fraying and leaving you with a hole in your seam after a few washes. This is the reason so do a straight stitch first and then finish your seams. I recommend to always do that unless you have a serger which does it for you (there are some that do and they save tons of time!) so the stitch is not to ‘baste’ but to put the garment together. The serger stitch is to finish off the edge so that it won’t fray as easily 🤎 I hope this helps

Thank you both! I have not tried anything with woven fabric yet. All that information was/is very helpful.

Yes I do. Thank you ♥️ I did want to get rid of the frayed edges so I left it on
