Oh thank you for this! I understand by seeing. In a free pattern from Boo Fabrics, a stretch guide was included. Until then I couldn’t understand what stretch percentages meant.
I am going to make a special request 😌for a video. You have made so many wonderful tips, dresses, etc. What would be an amazing and truly helpful video, for me and so many other people, would be a fabric guide video of you wearing your different pieces and stating the pattern, pattern company, fabric type and fabric company. This would help so much by providing a visual of the drape, flow, weight, capabilities, and inspiration for each kind of fabric, from wovens to knits and every kind under the rainbow! It would be wonderful for you to get some sponsors for fabrics that you haven’t a piece yet to showcase. A fabric/pattern showcase would be a wonderful video to make before each new season! I love your videos, keep them coming!

So informative Diana, thank you for posting this! It can be overwhelming with all the different fabric types available, but you explained them all very well with great examples of usage for each one.

There are so many different variations of types….like how much Lycra is in it…cotton or poly…or weight of the fabric….I have ordered different types just to try and learn which is best for what I’m making. If anyone is unsure about what types will work for them check out the online clearance items and find fabric patterns that make you feel good and get different types. That’s how I started learning. Local stores cater more towards quilting so in store hands on isn’t much of an option. Oh and if you do get a chance to visit a store in person take pictures or videos of different fabrics with the names….you’re an out of towner have some fun while you’re there…lol

But how can you tell just by the pictures what the sweater knits are going to actually perform like???

Usually the info section will tell you if it’s a 2 or 4 way stretch and it will also mention if it’s light, med or heavy weight fabric which will help
