Lyrics:
But you're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know you're so far away
Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don't come to own me
There's so many dreams I've yet to find
James Taylor was only 22 years old here. Crazy how time flies. Carole's voice, just amazing.
He reminds me of a young Dan Fogelberg, similar age & same era but Dan was only just starting in the music business in 1971.
Her voice is lovely, but--in my humble opinion--that's not really what makes her so excellent (many others surpass her in sheer vocal ability). It's the songwriting and the emotion.
This was my youth
Mr. Larkey's bass was a large contribution to the performance also.
And already such a great influence. If you're recognized by Carole you have to be good.
Listening to Carole and James back in ‘71 is where I fell in love with my high school sweetheart and we are still together 48yrs.
Congratulations for 48 years.
Aw♡
Awwwww!!!!
I watched a concert where Carol King while playing the piano and James Taylor while strumming the guitar sang "You've Got a Friend". Both were old already, probably in their early 60's.

The 70s had a true community of artists that respected and supported each other......it really was the age of singer/songwriters.
Back when the instruments didn't drown out the voices ?
Love Carole King, but who would arrange her song in such a manner in which piano obviously drowns out the whole baseline, and smothers the guitar ? Someone who just wants to share a stage with two friends, regardless of their instrumentation?

Just raw talent. No flashing lights. No gyrating bodies. No dancers in the background. Just three instruments and one voice.
There is nothing "raw" about either of these talents. They were both very sophisticated songwriters and musicians even at this early stage in their careers.
“Raw” doesn’t mean unsophisticated or unRefined. It means nothing but talent. Period. No visual enhancements like lights, lasers, dancers. No auto-tune. No cadre of background singers. Just a piano, a guitar, and two great voices.
Exactly👌👌❤️❤️❤️❤️
BIG UP RESPECT !

Strange how this music is gone and all the good musicians who wrote these timeless songs are either passed on or just faded from the spotlight. The 70’s were a special time for me.
❤❤❤
It's sad that nobody makes music like this anymore.
I can't think of any new music I really like. It's all Beyonce/ Taylor Swift/ Lizzo (whoever that is) Kanye (ick) Katy Perry and whatever. I guess Billy Eilish is a talent... but not my style.
@@jamespyacek2691 no need to poop on current people. I enjoy Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Gladys, Aretha, Dionne, and many many others. Times change, but good singing remains good singing. That said, this video is just delicious to the ears.
@@jamespyacek2691 Try something besides the radio.
Yes, music now isn't even music. At least, popular music isn't. There is still good music out there, but it's not the popular stuff. I've listened to rare bands, local bands, etc., stuff that isn't well-know, and there is still some wonderful and amazing music being made.
But the popular 'music'. Blech. Not even music. Just supposedly good-looking people dressed up is silly sparkly costumes, lip synching to garbage. You don't have to be talented, or be able to sing, or anything - all you have to do is look good. And even that's questionable, since a huge part of is is plastic surgery.
@@ssinssg But there is a need to poop on current people. It's garbage.
Once upon a time, this is what songs were all about, and how artists performed. I'll take this over any new music today.
Me too!
Don't forget you also had goofy bands back then. Don't be blinded by nostalgia
good for you. ;;;;;
I agree 😎✌️❤️
Feels like new singers wants to be different from everyone else instead of playing on their strengths. Music just needs to be sung and performed without pushing personal agendas. At the end of the day, we want the art not the artist yet this sentiment does not resonate to younger audience. They are more into the personality rather than the music they create. To be fair, most "artists" overflowing with personality does have very little musical talent to show for. Still, it is lamenting that my ears have been constantly plagued by tasteless music wherever I go.
I love when her voice breaks on higher notes. It's like the nooks and crannies of an English muffin.
That was an analogy Austin.

Wow! You totally won the lottery on that one! Tapestry was the first album I ever bought. It was just under $5, and I remember my Mom being so upset with me because I'd spent so much of my babysitting money on it! Every song on that album was easily a #1 hit - all be itself. We saw Carole & James "in the round" at the Key Arena in Seattle on their Troubadour Tour. We know Carole has down the Tapestry Album concert over in Europe and are hoping we'll be lucky enough to see her do it one day in the US.

Born 1945 and Carole King has written the soundtrack to my life. From teenage anxt to mature réflection.
'mature reflection', wow what a great way to put where a lot of us 'are' now
Back when music was music. Her vocal skills are completely off the chart. No overproduction, just an emotional, stripped down song about separated people who love each other. So touching. My dad used to play Carole, Jonie, James, Gordon, Harry, Jim Croce. I tear up now every time I hear any of them sing.
Try to remember the good things and the fun and laughter you all had while listening to these very talented artists.
It’s not just their singing but also their song writing and music. Thoughtful lyrics and great music background and supporting vocals enriched their music so much. This is why this music endures to this day. As all great music and their artists have survived.
I dedicate this song to my best friend who passed away in 2018, at 29 years old. My last act of brotherly service was shaving his mustache and beard in his deathbed, 2 days before he died.

Heard Miss King, and Mr. Stewart, and Mr. Taylor 1st time at the teenagers' hangout across the street from my new high school. Knew even then, that was Music!!
I was 13 in '71. After school we all would go to Dairy Queen. The guy who ran it was our friend. He told us about Tapestry. I still have my original. Thank you Carole. You still blow me away.
I was 14. This song is an indelible monument to the simple past, an innocence, an enduring well being.
I’m just listening to this beautiful music, thank you so much ❤❤
I'm 74 , retired and navy veteran . We lived in the best generation for music and real talent. Carol King is a legend and so is James Taylor. I was listening to a song yesterday by Greg Lake ( E.L.P.) when he was 12 years old. " Lucky Man " . So many memories !!!
I first saw James Taylor in the movie " 2 lane blacktop " Does anyone remember what a sailcat was in the movie ?
I was 16 in ‘71. By ‘73 I was enlisted in the Navy. I had a jr. high and sr. High school sweetheart. I was from Sacramento and stationed in Norfolk. This song held us together for a while. Time and distance ended our relationship. But hearing this takes me back to high school.
This is very good, but early jazz beats 60s and 70s music rock. I can't think of a more impactful song than Strange Fruit.
Sorry, jazz doesn't come close. Not on the same planet.
Im 51 and this song came out before even I was born lol ....my Dad bought this album for my Mum when she was 21 ....and it was an album for the whole family ....so many beautiful memories 🙂so very special ....love ya heaps Mum and Dad
My current girlfriend and I live over 900 miles away from each other. We dated back in 89' but rediscovered each other recently. Nothing has changed feelings wise.
This really makes me miss the country we once had.
Well you're looking at the generation that ruined it
there were plenty of problems then too. stop
Me too it's crazy now
CAROLE KING…so underrated…SO GREAT!!!!
Brings me back to a melancholy but warm time of my life.
TRUTH! She Was a GREAT Influence in Music of the Seventies & Eighties.....
same🤔
I want to specially appreciate you for being a big fan. Thanks for your comments on my post , it’s mean a lot to me. Kisses to your lovely heart 🌹
@@caroleking5074 Really? Did I just get a response from the real Carole King? I am flattered and a big fan and yes Tapestry is one of my favorite albums that I still play . Thank you.
@@caroleking5074 congratulations for being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame. You will always hold a special place in my heart as my mom would play your music in our car and she and I would sing the great songs
When I remember her ( she passed when I was 23) I can hear tapestry as the soundtrack. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Great performance!! Happy Birthday Carole! (Feb 9th). Today is 50th Anniversary of the release of her legendary album 'Tapestry'. The Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame is the next honor for Carole King!
Well deserved
OH YES! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAROLE!
Most "original artists" don't WANT to "sound like" the greats-they find their own unique voices.
Wonder if Carole ever reads her comments ? Paul Cantor said of Carol that she was one of the "most down to earth famous people he knew!" And I think that was before her song about the "earth moving under her feet??!!
There's allot of good music out there, if they'd just stop BLASTING it AT US.
Some of us are now just hearing "sound alike wanna b's," screaming in mikes and "plastic electronics!?"
Takes us ALL back-sure beats watching it play on a cell phone!
Back in college we musicians used to debate, "Which lives longer, the singer or the writer ?" Pretty evident isn't it ?
Back when the instruments didn't drown out the voices ?
Love Carole King, but who would arrange her song in such a manner in which piano obviously drowns out the whole baseline, and smothers the guitar ? Someone who just wants to share a stage with two friends, regardless of their instrumentation?Paul Cantor promised to introduce me to Carol years ago, but we never could connect.
With Carol in Mind, "The Man I Almost Married," &
"Loving You All Day Long" and " Don't Let me be Lonely Tonight"

@@caroleking5074 So sorry but I have been going through some tough times now since I lost my mother and my stepfather a few days apart, so I ‘ve been not feeling well lately and out to lunch on my thoughts! Forgive me!
I fell in love with that voice when I was 5. The feeling hasn't changed.
Born in "64" grew up with this music, love it to this day
Carole King was just so warm and charismatic. Like everyone’s lovely, supportive friend. No wonder she captivated so many people with Tapestry. Is that the most influential female singer/songwriter album ever?
It is in my book
My first great album before I discovered JM
Definately
That’s talent on an immeasurable scale, simply put.
This music makes me happy and sad, young and old, and in awe and satisfied, all at the same time!
I have such a huge ultra-crush on Carole King. The most authentic & talented songwriter/composer in the history of pop music. Her genius is in what's NOT there. Her ability to get deep inside of your heart with only voice & piano (with a bit of subtle guitar & bass background) is unparalleled. The EPITOME of the 'Natural Woman' she wrote about in one of her most enduring songs. 100% gorgeous. 💖
She has an inner beauty as well as an outer beauty, who could not help fall in love with her!
Thank you Miss King . My mom was so far away while stayed in a orphanage home and Sundays could not came fast enough to feel my mom's huggs and kisses. So far away the 5 year old cried out the window every night while the other children sleeping. Tearsthat never dried would fall standing alone by the window only wanting to held when i would wake from all my nightmares . When will Sunday come that she would stay and never go away .5 years took a childhood away before ever started
God Bless you 🙏 I was in similar situation 1969 mom died & a feckless father, put in the British care system. I'm only reading replies after i Googled Carol King whilst watching a documentary of her in New York 1973. Loved her music 🎶 & still do.

So sorry 😢
Missing my dad...
Me too😢
So much respect for each other. Missing today. She could have played on her own and rocked it. Lesson learned. The message. Back then. We were drifting apart. Are we listening now in 2023?
I'm 63 years old and bought tapestry in junior high. My sister died of breast cancer and this was our favorite album. Love ya sister Kim. We love you Carole king. And James Taylor

So beautiful. Still get misty eyed when I hear it. Carole is a national treasure.
As a DJ, I met Carole at 105KITS -San Francisco in 1984. She was absolutely delightful and kind…so unforgettable!
I'm 59 and I grew up to great music like this, a great time to grow up
Carol you have been so influential in my life I remember listening to you when I was born and I hope to be listening to you when I go out
Brilliant girl! Few can write or sing as you do. God gave you a wonderful gift and you have shared it bountifully with the world. For that so many thank you and will enjoy those memories for many years. You have our admiration and our unending thanks.

The minor-key stuff is guaranteed to elicit tears -but the question is where are today's young talents at this level?
So heartfelt and nostalgic. And that piano. This has long been one of my favorite of his songs. Routinely makes me cry.
Reminds me of my wife Who Loved Carole King so much her songs just timeless brings back memories love that will never be again has passed away I hope I see you again Christina
James, play "I Still Care" when you think of Christina-so sorry for your loss.

Lucky and proud to be born in 1970🙏 That's why Carole King's music is one of my earliest childhood memories ❤️❤️❤️
You truly appreciate this song when the people thats been in your life forever start passing away.
Wow, my exact sentiments!
I still remember all the lyrics to all the songs on Tapestry!
Do you know how lucky these folks were being in the music industry then,, as well as us listening to them.
Carole King had stage fright and just wrote songs through the 60s. James talked her into performing her songs. The rest is history.
Hard to say if she was a better song writer or singer. She was great at both and I am so happy to have been growing up when artists like her and others were putting out new music all the time.
i never heard of carol king till i saw her life story. I knew every song she sang or wrote. it brought me back to my mom singing to me when I was young it took me a lifetime to see who she was and i still cry hearing her, and missing my mom!carols incredible!
