I'm a 70-year-old Japanese man. I heard their songs 52 years ago at their first concert in Japan. It was one of the happiest events in my life. 😍😍😍
The 70s have rolled around for you once more. Congratulations!
te envidio tio , saludos
Lucky guy
I was a little US navy brat in Kamiseya then
WOW !!!! lucky you Sir !!.. I could only dream and do being 61 now and never seen the greatest female voice of all time ! ... please share more
In 2024, her voice still brings tears to my eyes. I was a little boy listening to her on cassette tape. When I heard she died, I was a teen. I cried all evening. We miss you Karen. :(
I was a teen like you. I cried as well. Loved her so!
I think of my mom when i hear Carpenters songs my mom was a extremely good singer and she sang all the time in the house when I was a young kid she died when I was 12
Same for me.
I was 20 years old. old when Karen passed. I read when she was anorexic, the damage that it caused to her heart was irreparable. It was all so very sad.
So, I'm a 65 year old with no religion, but if you want to convince me in the existence of a gift from God,I'm all in!
“Hanging around”. 64 years old and I’m STILL “hanging around” listening to Karen. RIP, Baby Girl..
Yeah... me too! Forgive any typos... my screen seems to have gone misty again! 🥴
65 here. Still listening too
I'm 72, still crazy in love with this beautiful song ❤️
Im a 63 year old black hip hop head from Harlem/Bronx NYC, but can't front on the Carpenters they will always be one of my favorite singer songwriter duos
April 2024 anyone still listening to the Carpenters?
She passed when I was a small child, so happy my family had great taste in music 🎶
The best❤
🙋💗
Fantastic singer and wonderful voice😊😊
I just searched this song today, 6th May 2024
ABSOLUTELY!
This song brings me back to the 70s when I was just a young boy. All of my sisters and I were still living at home with my mom and dad. My dad worked in a refinery and my mom was a housewife. Dinner was always ready at 4:30pm. We’d watch “I Love Lucy” reruns on our small TV while we ate. Everyone I loved and cared about was still alive and healthy. Now, so many of the people in my life that meant so very much to me are gone. How I wish I could go back in time...but when I hear great music like this, I close my eyes, and all of those wonderful memories come rushing back into my mind.
Tears just filled my eyes reading that. My dads died Mum much older and don’t speak to one of my sisters anymore who I loved more than anything
same here i feel your pain. Those were the days way back then
TheManorBeast Thank you.
im 20, but reading your story makes me teary, i can even imagine and feel the time when you were young. Ohh it makes me so sad, i hope you are still happy now, you must be old grandpa. we love you
Bella Sintia Thank you...I'm actually 56, but I feel young. All through life, people tell you how fast time flies, but I honestly didn't start feeling it until I turned 50. Now it seems like the years are just flying by!! Enjoy life with every fiber of your being!!
She's been gone over 40 years and that voice is still incredible. I can listen to Karen for hours.
Thank God I was born at the time these great artists performed
All through 60s 70s the best one form popular music by so many Amazon artists
2024, and I'm still listening to the voice of an angel.
Stop asking "whose still listening to The Carpenters in 20XX"! We never stopped listening.
I started all their songs on 8 Track for my daughter to go to sleep . She is now 45 and I still listen to their albums and I love it then … still love it now! ❤️❤️❤️Millie in England now reside in Long Beach.
Exactly.
Correct 💗
I was 10...1974ish..my dad with the best of the carpenter's 8 track in his olds 88...i grew up metal...but never forgot her voice...im approaching 60....and just love it
Exactly again. 💯
She's been gone 37 years, yesterday. She surely is missed. The world truly lost a treasure.
Huge news back then. Sad story.
I lived in Downey California then. I sat across the street from the church when they had her funeral.
Like JFK, MLK and Bobby, I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news of her passing. Sad
I just wish she could have gotten the help she needed. Now? We will never know what really happened. All we can do now is just appreciate the music she left to us, and she left much too soon.
Mrsandmom5 no way, I bet a million people showed
2024 March, my eyes still get moist whenever I hear Karen Carpenter singing.
The voice and drumming also.. SIK
April 2024 Me Too
A lot of people get teary eyed listening to Carpenters. I see it in the comments often. Me too. Karen completely melts my heart!!!
Lovely
Who's playing the saxophone 🎷
Anyone know
@johnbennett948 Jim Horn plays saxophone on "Rainy Days and Mondays." ... And the infamous "Wrecking Crew" (of which Jim Horn was a part) also plays.
It's 2023 and I'm still listening to this angel sing I've loved her voice for 50 years
Perfect voice
Homesick for Cape Town right now.
Yes. Love her so much
I listen always, forever....
Me too! This is a classic always was and will be. Back in the 70’s we all listened to the same music!
Some people don’t understand how amazing she is. Talk about perfect pitch. She’s like her own instrument that can’t be replicated
I think it's a gift, it can't be learned.
I just love listening 🎶 to her,💖❤
Van Hendriks you are so right She is amazing
Some people like you don't understand how amazing are people who write and compose, not those who sing it.
I wish we could all go back and tell her!
Karen was born four months before me. After all these years (today is April 29, 2024) I still listen to The Carpenters every single day.
I listen to her every day. She's my therapy.
It’s 2024 and this still holds up so amazingly! What is it about older music that makes it so timeless and amazing no matter when you listen to it?! Karen’s voice is so uniquely her but so widely loved and appreciated and I think that is the mark of a true legend!
Yes. Good music never gets old.
l have CD's and still play it today in 2024. I love Karen Carpenter
Real music
This came from a time when there still seemed to be a little magic in the air...
It's the poetry behind it. The love.. There is love in older music that is rare in this generation.
Paul McCartney said she had "the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful, distinctive." Have to agree.
John Lennon was also a fan of her voice.
The Bee Gees were impressed by the Carpenters' harmonies too...@@denisej4813
She had a lovely voice, only singer ever know to have had a "Pitch Perfect" voice. Gone to soon, like so many others.
here was right!!!!
I wish Paul sang a duet with her...Back when...
Only angels sing like that. She was an angel.
🙏🙏☯️
A beautiful lady and talent.
She became an angel far too early...
Am thinking she still is . . .
@@Moebiusjbb Angels don't become angels James, but she sang as close to an angel as we could imagine.
It's sad that she didn't realize how much she was loved. ❤
Amen!✌️
True dat
Happy 74th birthday Karen. Your beautiful smile and voice will never be forgotten. Miss you always.
If you notice, she didn't smile much. Sad.
She has the greatest pure voice I've ever heard. Her perfect pitch and tone can never be equalized. RIP Karen
There is no mistaking that you know it's Karen Carpenter on the first few words she sings. Amazing voice
She's resting in peace in heaven at the Great Gulf it states in Luke 16:26 nobody's dead yet Lazarus is on the right side of the gulf in the rich man is on the left side of the white great white Throne judgement.
We Can't Judge Karen Only God can judge which side she went to but we certainly know that she was one dear soul that touched many many people in such a positive way ❤️ 💙 ♥️ ✨️ 💕 💖 ❤️ 💙 ♥️
Her voice is vocal velvet.
Born to sing..I gather she played good drums as well. I still can't believe how she carried a note further than anyone - and started the next so soon after. Easily the greatest singer I could ever hear. RIP Karen ❤
Absolutely
I know it's a simple question, but who's still listening to Karen's beautiful voice in 2021, like me?
me!
Imagine this song being added to mafia 4
Bought their album in 71, and fell in love with her beautiful voice, I can't believe 50 years has gone by, but here I am 2021 and still welling up when she sings.
Meeeeeee
Me😊❤❤❤
Some songs never get old. They just age like a fine wine. This is one of those songs. Thank you, Karen, for such a lovely masterpiece.
Most beautiful female voice of all time
She will never pass away. Seasons change, people change but her voice is eternal.
Well said!!
Truer words were never spoken. Love is immortal, and Karen truly was an emissary from the divine!
Love the reference to the Expose song in your comment...I believe I read Jeanette Jurado (lead on the record) said the Carpenters were one of her two favorites, which makes it and them even cooler.
Very sensitive person in society that failed to protect her🙁
Definately xx
She had the coolest tone ever, and enunciated every word, her death was a loss to music lovers.
right
Only comparable to the Gibb Brothers death
In my humble opinion the best female vocalist of all time! her enunciation, her clarity, just outstanding!
@@martcichocki5571 Absolutely, I totally agree, but Whitney Houston had magnificent vocals as well. I didn't care for the music but her voice was powerful. RIP Karen and Whitney.
Yes, that tone. Vibrato and exaggeration in the right places. The weeping, sliding up on the notes quality
Now it's 2024 and I still listen to her beautiful voice. I'm 65.
Her songs are immortal, she lives in our hearts
Ich bin 40 und ja❤ich liebe diese Band für mein Leben 😊
I still am listening in 2024. Karen’s voice was a timeless treasure. We were lucky to hear it!!
Absolutely!
Me too ❤
Give Tori Holub a listen.
You'll be shocked.
The purest voice in history. Still miss her

No one who has ever heard Karen Carpenter could ever forget her, something eternal about her voice, you can feel her soul right in it. What an incredible gift.

Very well put!
The best female singer of all time. And also one of the best tracks from the Carpenters. Enjoy folks!
Very few people achieve the feat of being lead singer and drummer. Thank you Karen, you were an inspiration.
67 years old and still singing with my girl. She filled in the empty spaces of my heart as a heart broken teenager.
Hi Sandra 💐💐💐
Me too
@@lindadees3887 And me, I've got a couple of years on you but I can only take a few minutes of listening to this beautiful lady, before there's a full scale fold up. RIP Karen your voice just echoes through eternity.
Sandra, igual yo. A mis 66 años la sigo. Desde el cielo ella nos canta
Yes Sandra she such a beautiful voice listening to her always brings back good memories.
Lead singer and playing the drums at the same time. She was brilliant.
❤️😇 1/20/20
Unfortunately, the record label and her brother Richard forced her to come out from behind the drums in later years because they felt that she needed to be seen as the female lead singer of the group. She was so uncomfortable at the front of the stage and it contributed to her self doubt and poor self image (combined with a plethora of other things like the pressure to maintain a certain unhealthy weight, rumours of an incestuous relationship between her and her brother, not to mention constant putdowns from her mother, and her brother being the golden child, etc.). Poor Karen dealt with a lot of demons throughout her life and it's so tragic what happened to her. Like many artists, the world just chewed her up and spit her back out.
Even though she is seen playing the drums here, almost all of their recordings, including this one, are actually Hal Blaine playing. She was a good drummer, but Blaine was the go-to drummer for studio recordings at that time.
@Dbo83 Grand Funks lead singer plays the drums Also.
Richard did not force her out front. He was fine with her behind the drums and preferred here there. It was the record label. The lifetime movie was not 100% accurate.
Videos of them performing is priceless. Just watching Karen sing anything is precious.
Karen Carpenter, I am 61 years old today and listening to your wonderful voice. She was a fantastic singer. Wish she lived to old age. Unfortunately she died far too young. Rest in peace Karen.
The most stunning, haunting female voice in human history..
Bill Baldwin. agree

She was the GREATEST singer ever I'll never forget the day she died I took that day off work unbelievable and still the GREATEST ever God bless to Karen forever xxxxxxx
This woman definitely had the face and the voice of an angel. She was definitely one of a kind. She is dearly loved and sadly missed
everything about her is angel
I concur what an angel both living and now
I can't help but cry when I listen to her beautiful voice and her beautiful songs. So many memories.
TRUTH INDEED AMEN SIP Karen Carpenter
My mom use to listen to this and light and classic rock she was about 26 when I notice so I love it
Jeez, she just rips your heart out. What an incredibly emotive voice. Mature beyond her years (she was about 21 when this came out). I could listen to her all day long, but I'd probably be an emotional wreck...
At age 72, I listen to the Carpenters every single day.
I’m 72 also my friend and I can only listen to the Carpenters occasionally because Karen makes me very emotional.
Igual yo a los 70 años recuerdos vienen a mi mente que me ponen muy nostálgico.
Well done, Mike. You're a member of a mighty army. Be well.
Best music out mate
I’m so honored to look like her.
She never took a singing lesson. When recording she never missed a note. And she played the drums. She was amazing.
Sad that her mother was a monster and her father never defended her.
@@renaniidepinheiroepereira4104 Yes, that was what i was thinking. I believe, one can say that her mother killed her.
@@risumotus , she ever refused to say that she loved her, as her therapist asked in a session.
She did have voice lessons from a choir director who helped her develop her three

Good Morning on a rainy day on a Monday morning. I've been a Carpenter listener since 1972? Ish. On Top of the World, was a favorite song of mine.
Me too ❤
When your body eventually gives up, your spirit, your soul will come to the fore, you will go towards the light and you will hear Karen Carpenter's voice giving you comfort, peace and love.
Brings tears to my eyes, so beautiful, so talented, so fragile. A flower that bloomed and died too soon.
I love you karen. You are so talented and beautiful.
Very true 🙏🏼
Wow.
Reading your comment brought a tear to my eyes. Such an accurate and beautiful statement.
So true,gone too soon
Leah, you have a heart of gold.
Guess it’s a good thing to live 69 years and still be able to cry that this crazy world hasn’t hardened your heart
No. I've been paging thru utube carpenter songs, and I could do without the feelings her voice, and their songs, pull up. Yeah, it feels good to feel....not, and I ain't being sarcastic or trolling. Her voice and emoting has hurt for too long.
Michael Appelberg Your still a youngster!
Her voice: Liquid Gold.
I'm 60...and as a kid, I remember Karen's sweet TRUE voice.......she is truly missed.....what a beautiful little bird she was......
Same age here. Growing up in Texas in the early 70's her voice was so different than anything I'd ever heard before.
I cannot listen to her sing without getting teary eyed, her voice touches your soul.
Me too. This song and Merry Christmas Darling. Get misty knowing how unhappy she was and not accepted for who she was by her Mom. So sad.
I cry every time I hear this one. Reminds me of the past and plus she has such an angelic voice it just chokes me up.
So does, she was so beautiful inside and out. We love her songs.
She passed in my sophomore year of high school, who would have thought she would have such an huge impact. At the same time I had a younger cousin dealing with the same disease that no one talked about, she battled it for years. She's been well 20 years and we have all healed from the experience, it's so emotional and that is how her music makes you feel!
Me. I started liking her songs when I was in 2nd grade. Now I'm 42 and she's still my first favorite female artist 💖
I'm almost in tears & it's 2021. This woman's voice is TIMELESS!

Nope, has to be a clear skied Tuesday or Thursday for me to listen

I was a child in the 70's. We took the Carpenters for granted. This was just everyday music on the radio. Only now in my mid 50's do I truly appreciate the beauty and rarity of Karen's voice.
They certainly don't sing like this, or play music like this anymore. WHY? Doesn't anyone in the recording industry realize the Emperor has no threads?
Marry Ann Syers, I was just thinking the same thing in my late forties. These songs, (in particular Karen's voice) magically transports me back to such a wonderful time in my childhood. Memories of lazy afternoons spent in company of family, that I probably took for granted back then. That warm soothing sound of Karen's voice is like a golden ray of sunshine chasing all the clouds away.
Amen
You have PERFECTLY put into words how I feel. Karen was my first crush as a child and I didn't even realise it for forty years
I too am a product of the 70s, I liked the carpenters, but it wasn't cool amongst my friends to admit.

Maybe the purest singing voice of all time. It was such a tragedy to lose her.
No show-offiness; no gimmicks; great communicator
A haunting voice that was almost disarming when injected into such a schmaltzy, over produced pop formula. Her brother didn't do her any favors and I think she would have been better off on her own.
No maybe about it . . she was the best!
I still miss her
Such a sad lose. Totally agree with you.

Her voice is incredible,
I love her voice. She was beautiful in many
Ways but was aware of the media’s words & that killed her. It’s sad
The older I get....the more I appreciate the simple life of music ❣️

What we might think as simple is far from. Richard's arrangements and the overdubbing or stacked harmonies and Karen' amazing voice make this so the complete and wholesome experience. It is both Richard and Karen making this come together. I miss her everyday I think of great music and times where there were no vulgar words and no one was trying to hurt the other. Yes the 70s and The Carpenters where that time made no sense, and thank God their music so much did. We needed The Carpenters.
You are so right .. God-bless you, happy Thanksgiving, God-bless Karen. I listen to her all the time.💖🤘❤💚💗🧡
I've drummed for 40 years and still can't comprehend how someone can sing and drum at the same time. Singing melody and keeping time with drums occupy 2 completely different realms in a song. She was incredibly beautifully talented.
i was born in the wrong generation, i was born in 2008 and started listening to the Carpenters when i was abt 11 or 12, and when i first heard on top of the world, i just had a deja vu, like i heard that song b4, even tho i never did, like a memory from a past life..
It’s 2021. I’m 6’5” 250 pounds. Long hair, hard rock singer, beer, USA motorcycle fan, Tatoos. Currently wearing a fanged skull in flames shirt. Karen’s beautiful singing makes me tear up every time. She had the perfect voice. Flawless. There was only one. Brilliant. Great drummer, one of the best vocalists of all time. Completely trained by her own ear alone. Such a catastrophic loss all these years later. Innocent & fragile, destroyed by the press at such a young age. A single article drove her insecurities, and she ended up anorexic. So damn sad. I love and miss her so much.
I'm the same way tall big and strong, but this song just breaks my heart, when you are going through something you can't hide it, I struggle every day, hang in there big guy
And I thought I was the only one...

She had no self love thought she was ugly couldnt get a boyfriend she was as sad as most of her songs that's what killed her so sad with a voice like that but yu can hear her sadness when she sang these songs

My Mom's gone too ...One day back in 1970-71 around there I was 8-9 in the ladies department at JCPENNEY in Stonewood Shopping center all of a sudden Mom got this huge smile on her face...look Eric there's Karen Carpenter! I'll never forget that, my Mom's smile! I remember Richard and Karen driving by my house in their Carpenters Van .... Such a treasure. Nobody sings like Karen Carpenter.
Who always will be clicking on to hear a Carpenters song in 2020 and beyond?
Me
We are
I am 56 and the 70s music I started listening to was always a Carpenter song....it started with Stepenwolf...
Me I love it God bless her the voice of an angel ♥♥♥
@@tammyd4175 i do awsome singer drummer
Karen’s voice brings tears to my eyes, partly because of the absolutely perfect pitch of her contralto, but also because she left this world a month short of her 33rd birthday. Gone too soon and undoubtedly robbed us of some more beautiful music that would have been created between her and brother Richard. Reminds us that we take people in our lives too much for granted. RIP Karen!
She was a beautiful woman
Karen is awesome
Karen, her voice is unique
If course she does - that voice has beauty and depth !
It's not just the clarity and trueness of her voice. Her voice often catches in her throat, when you hear it, you feel like it tears at your very soul. You really can hear her suffering when she sings.
I’m 27 now, I adore music like this! I just heard this in a cute cat meme, and I was immediately hooked and came to look for the full song. Beautifully sung, somber yet powerful. ❤
Karen's voice was simply gorgeous, a beautiful, unforced, natural-sounding tone.
She secretly suffered her rainy days and Monday's in real life. Lovely person. We miss you Karen.
Yes, her mother was the root of her problems AND the straw that broke the camel's back.
@@Coupydog i can relate to this so much. Wow how old was she when she passed.
@@unanimousanonymity1836 , 32 yrs. old.
@@Coupydog Thanks for mentioning this. I always wondered what it was that drove her into that kind of decline. Narcissistic parents are downright the worst.
@@shiningdawn8578 Agnes Carpenter reminds me of Harriett Olson while Harold reminds me of Nels. (If you've ever watched "Little House On The Prairie", you know what I'm talking about.)
So I'm not the only one who listens with tears running down my face?
Me too Richard
Yep
Yea this song always puts a lump in my throat
It’s like an allergic reaction for me...I hear Karen’s voice and I automatically have severely watery eyes. IDK why 🤷♀️
Richard Fulmer i am no 52 and had hrr lps in the 70s as a kid - what a talent, how lucky/blessed are we to have heard her!
The One who loves me is my Savior
Karen Carpenter literally had the best female voice ever.
You could be right ✅ its a very pure voice no breaks in it and she sings everything perfectly
I feel this way too
i believe 1 of the beatles maybe lennon said she has the most beautiful voice
@@SuperSglenn yeah John I think 🤔
Yes sir.
As a professional recording artist...writer...arranger and pianist...this IS quite possibly the FINEST female voice ever to be recorded in the industry....all these years later...she IS STILL relevant as is Richard..
I've said that for decades, Xavier. In my mind, the finest female singing voice of all time.
no need for autotune when you have an actual beautiful voice.
I think you're right. There is really no other female voice which seriously compares.
@@scottalbers2518 No there is not...my friend...she was VERY special..
@@FieldofDreamsIowa agreed. karen was the ULTIMATE female "crooner" who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU, this is a huge monumental difference separating her from the rest during her heyday and since up to today's singers.. she also was the ultimate storyteller of every song. today's singers? they sing every song the same way no matter what the song is about and of course they sing loud and then louder and that is considered talent and the measure of a great singer/voice??! i don't think so!... karen's voice was the purest, most intimate, moving, touching, haunting voice i have ever heard, also she had the most perfect diction and enunciation of any voice male or female i have ever heard.. ultimate female singer of romance and love songs, looking for love, finding love and losing love...
Still listening in 2024!!! My mom & my favorite, my mom passed a year ago tomorrow & I'm just going through her albums... then wanted to watch the video... miss ya mom!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm 17 years old and I loved this song ❤
Welcome to Old School! I'm 61 and my 2 sons listen to the same songs I grew up with!
You have great taste! 👏🤙💪
Her voice is like honey; so pure, sweet and smooth.
Sent from heaven.. Rach!
Accurately described.
Rachel Harless Too true...
Unmistakable. Irreplaceable. After all these years, no one can touch her. There you have the gift of Karen Carpenter .
Of course you can't touch her - she is 6 feet under
@@wildtill9 Tastless comment
Nobody it's true, but Shane Ericks does a good cover of some of the Carpenters songs.
Greatest, female voice of all time
