    I am a 19 year old male who is training to become an SLSO. I enjoyed listening to different perspectives of the SLSO role and the many experiences that SLSOs have. The most challenging part for me is when a child doesn't have food. It makes me super emotional and annoyed that parents don't support their child with the proper resources (food, water and clean clothes). Great Video.

      Oh the food is a heartbreaker. I know I get cranky enough when my tummy grumbles and some of our kids miss many meals in a day. It's very hard, but we can have faith that during the day we give them care and love to keep going ❤

    It was so great to hear from your SLSO! Please thank her for being willing to be on RUclips :) My SLSOs said the same thing- communicate, take the lead and work as a team. I said the same thing in my video - that SLSOs provide an extra pair of eyes and ears in our classrooms. Great video :)

    A bit late to the game, three years later 😊 but thank you so much for this video. I am currently applying for two SLSO jobs and I’m a total newbie who is a bit nervous whether this is the right career for me but your lovely SLSO has just made me feel much better and confident that I’m doing the right thing! I want to be the kind of SLSO she is 😁

    Great video ladies. Yes I agree be organised ie resources, planners. When we come in we can get straight to work. I’m in the same class every day and the teacher has the children say good morning and good afternoon to me as well.

      I’m glad you liked the video 😀 SLSOs can work in public schools. Our school has a preschool and a primary school together which is why she works in both. Check the NSW Department of Education website for more info 👍

    Hi, I know this video was from a year ago but I was wondering do you have to go on camp or excursions with the class?

    • @talkinchalk
      @talkinchalk  3 года назад

      SLSOs can go on camp if they choose to but my understanding is they cannot be made to go if they don't want to. I also believe if they do then they get some kind of over time pay or penalty rate. You would need to confirm that with staffing though as I'm not 100% sure on that.
      Excursions definitely yes though.
