Its bullshit that this disabillity isnt known by most people. This disabillity made me go through my childhood embarrassed, feeling dumb, and inferior. I hope the new generation of kids get diagnosed early so they dont feel the same way everyone with dyscalculia felt during their school years.
Aaron Adame I know the feeling. I didnt know I had dyslexia until my graduation party when my father said he knew I could graduate with my class even with dyslexia. It shattered my world. They got me tested when I was younger and withheld that information from me. I went through my whole elementary, middle, and highschool years thinking I was stupid that I couldn't learn how to insert these (, . " ' ; : ) at the right time in a sentence let alone spell a word correctly without having to do a spell check, and how I could listen so intently in math class and still royally fuck up in a test. It sucks and we all wish to turn back time to get the help we so desperately needed. The only thing we all can do is learn how to work with it and get better so if we one day become parents we become the parents who will be there to guide and support our own kids.
I'm with you!! I went to school in the 60's and they totally destroyed me. I was never tested but figured it out on my own...

Same here...I'm stuck in a white collar job and couldn't get good grades to get into a good university.
I'd really like to become an activist for dyscalculia. My entire life no one had ever taken the time out to address the possibility to me, I was just considered dumb. My mother pushed me to the back of all my other siblings. She was ashamed of me. I wrecked my life running from my failure to achieve math concepts. No one could tell me why I couldn't get it, they just gave up on me or looked at me like I wasn't trying. I've tried to get into college but never could get past math. My entire life has been stolen because in this society you have to be mediocre or great in math. I couldn't live up to my full potential because dyscalculia suffers aren't taken seriously enough. We are outcast in the educational system. We are given no chances in the workforce competition. Why? Because some of us can't finish highs school or go to college because we can't get past math test. I've tried to kill myself a twice because of this.
I'm 40 now, and i've never been able to understand numbers. I was always shit at maths at school. The maths teacher was great and understanding- but i just could never get it, no matter how hard i tried.. I was 10 years old when i finally understood how to tell time. To this day i am shit at directions, and really crap with anything that involves numbers - but i am always early for appointments or work. Working out tax, or wages, or pretty much anything that involves maths or numbers still throws me to this day and always will.I will work it out-but i will do it several times to be absolutely sure. And that's using a calculator. No one ever mentions it. It's like it doesn't exist. But it does. Just ask my parents. They will shout out about my skills with words and letters, but mock my incompetence on numbers. Any kind of maths thing- i just cannot understand any of it.

monalisasmile i've had it my whole life. My parents to this day accept my inability to not process maths or directions. :) But no one else does. I'm wondering if directions are also a problem with you, - they are with me.
I was diagnosed 5 years ago, and I’m still so ashamed when I can’t do simple math, everyone else at school can do it and are in advanced classes, and everyone calls me dumb

In school, I was very good at English but very bad at Math. I've always had trouble with it due to my intellectual disability. I always thought I was too stupid (since I got bullied for it) but until recently I found about this condition. I think teachers and parents should be aware of dyscalculia therefore having a better understanding. We shouldn't belittle those who have it... (like myself)
*I FINALLY KNOW MY PROBLEM!!!* I get A’s and B’s in all of my classes except math! I usually have C’s or even D’s in math and it makes me feel stupid compared to my peers! This makes so much sense but honestly... I kinda feel like crying...

I am Dyslexic and I am not stupid.You are not either.You will see in the world details that others miss.I failed math 3 times in high school,junior high,elementary.I drove my math teachers crazy with my time consuming way of doing math problems.I would use scratch sheets of paper to do a problem.To a division problem I would break apart with adding or minus.I would line up the numbers and count the numbers of 5 if it was 5x 12 or something like that.My math teachers hated me for that.Oh I ended up doing 3 out of 10 problems because of this.See i had to do 10 problems in 20 mins.Not gonna happen for me for I have no sense of time! I can read well and fast.One problem is my mind burns out faster than others and I get tired fast because of one side is working harder than the other side.I am very clumsy and i hate sports.I love technical stuff.Oh I am Gamer too. To those who had problems with math you are not alone.Don't be ashamed.see my pc is on Linux and I taught my self to use it.Perk up every one you survived School!!Take care all of you.

I cried to hear what I had gone through in school. I never heard this before and I wished I'd had someone know how to help or recognize this. I was born 1963. I really feel it has cost me a lot in my life. A lot of painful memories

Me too, born in 1963, but was very good in math, I got hit by a car and everything change, Everything was backward, could not remember anything!,I felt so dumb!,still do, My mother refuse to see that I had learning difficulties,she seem ashamed of me,Life has not gotten any better for me, I just got old, Wishing still that I was smart.

I was sixteen when they diagnosed me. At that point (2005) it was hardly even heard of. My parents and even my math teacher, had no idea what it was.

Well this explains a lot. I always struggle in math since I was really little so this explains it way better than any teacher at my school could.

Just learning about dyscalculia. I had a really difficult time through out my years in school. I failed the SAT with a score of 500 + , only passing the parts of that test that was the English, and word definitions. It became difficult when I entered college. I would start dropping the math classes. 2 years ago was the last time that I tried. It was just horrible, I just dropped out, because of math difficulties. Passed everything else though.

@@user-zu8ue7gf3w Put simply, a person with Dyscalculia just has a brain that is not wired very well for math. There is no cure, but now there are more methods for helping kids with dyscalculia learn.
Its not a sickness, its just a unique brain.
Yep, I have talked to my doctor about it, but at my age I have learnt how to live with it.

You be fine whether you have this LD or not. It’s not like a cancer diagnosis. If anything, learning you have it can only benefit your quality of life moving forward.
To get tested, see a psychologist or psychiatrist. Either way, it will be a psychologist who performs the test.

Could you kindly say your results ? I’m highly considering to get an official diagnosis now since I actually do need extra time for my maths tests. I just can’t finish all the maths moreover the time limit makes me more anxious and I soon go blank. Not managing to get above 7 out of 40.

I’m 64 now and I struggle with any maths, especially counting odd numbers. I couldn’t tell the time till I was 9 or 10 years old. I still can’t read maps, or tell left from right and I struggle with spacial things as one side of the road looks so different to me. I have gotten lost on bus journeys, many times, which always entailed sleepless nights in preparation. In my school years I got left behind as one of the ‘dumb ones’ (teaching was so different in the 60’s and 70’s) so I was never helped. Also, dyslexia was not recognised and if it was, it wasn’t widespread knowledge. It’s just nice to know that it has a name and it isn’t DUNCE!! Thank you 😊
I’m 15 and I have all the signs of the high school one. I’ve always been bullied for being so bad at math and I was called ’slow’ and ’stupid’. I didnt realize until now that it might not be just because I’m dumb or bad at math..
Just throwing this out there, as someone who has Dyscalculia for as long as I can remember... I was diagnosed with ADHD in 3rd grade, and I remember in 7th grade getting fed up with math teachers and counselors telling me im just being lazy and to stop counting on my hands and the infamous "you wont have a calculator with you everyday." I did research after school online and found out that Dyscalculia IS a comorbid symptom of ADHD. So, if any of you have Dyscalculia and also find it hard to not just focus on numbers but "problem solving" in general sometimes, check with a Psychiatrist or an ADHD and Mood Disorder specialist, and get tested for ADHD.
I did my GCSE maths 7 times. I sat the exams 7 times and every time I got a D. Even though I studied so hard and in my mocks I got a C only once. Even things as simple as addition and subtraction takes me even longer, to this day at the age of 22. I have always struggled with my left and rights even now, I always get them mixed up, it makes me feel stupid.
I know not all people but some people experience this dyscalculia. I think we all need to understand him or her and help them..we should avoid the word like slow, dump.

This sounds a lot like me. My math teacher and I were always at war with one another. She would always say things like I don’t understand why you don’t just get it it’s a simple concept. She would also imply I was lazy because I just didn’t understand. Meanwhile I’m sitting over there like lady speak English I don’t understand you you’re speaking another language. My grandmother would use this to try to imply that my parents were not good parents. I looked at her and said it’s like another language to me in my head and I can’t keep anything straight there when math is involved.
I'm so sorry that so many deal with these issues but I'm so glad it has come to the attention of those who want to help find a way for people to learn! I am definitely going to be researching and finding out ways around this! And once I find those ways, I can help my children as well as myself. This is wonderful!
Coming here seeing comments of people who went through the same and go through the issues are a sense of relief to know I’m actually not alone in “this” world omg I’m so overwhelmed to see how many feel the way I felt since a kid 😢
I'm 15 I just entered highschool and I've been crying weeks bc it's so hard for me for counting even with my fingers I got diagnosed with dyslexia and I came to this video to know what was it all about i still feel bad but not that much :(
Both myself and my brother have this. Both in our 30s, we came across a description and it was a total "Aha!" moment. We'd always joked about how we were the best students in every class except maths, and left and right just have very little meaning to us. I struggle with bank account numbers and phone numbers because a long string of numbers just loses all meaning. I can add very basic numbers but as soon as you get into more digits I reach for my calculator.
One thing I've always found is that a lot of what I've learned in maths has stuck because I've associated it with a song or rhyme. Times tables are easy for me as I can sing it through to find the answer. But that isn't 'working out' the answer!
I feel for all kids struggling with this. My advice is get through the compulsory amount of numerical stuff you have to do and forget about it. Focus on other things you are good at. There are strategies all over to ensure your lack of maths ability doesn't impede your life.
Havent finish school because of this, it's so traumatic, im so scared all the time, still I am. I will never be able to get my diploma. And I feel so alone.
You can do it! It took numerous attempts of starting at the most basic math class for me to finally pass college algebra. You can do it! It takes lots of work, but is possible. Talk to a counselor about getting help for your learning disability. There are accommodations that can really help you.

You can do it. I have discalculia too and I passed my math test in college. It's harder for us but we can do it. You just have to work harder and most importantly, trust in yourself.
i never knew i had dysculcia till my 20s. I knew i was bad at math, counting money and telling time but i didn’t know there was a name for it. It’s so embarrassing when i can’t even do basic math, yesterday my mom yelled at me because i couldn’t calculate something for her. Then she compared me to her other daughters and said that im too old to not know how to do math. I never felt so embarrassed and stupiddd. I hate myself for having this learning disability , i just feel like a failure and a disappointment
What???!! This is a real thing? I have suffered with even the most basic of math all my life. I thought I was just really bad at math. I've even told people it's kind of like dyslexia, but with numbers. I had one teacher in high school that have me a calculator to use in class because she noticed that I would turn in work that was "almost" right. For instance, I'm really bad to reverse numbers. If the answer is 23, I'm likely to write down 32. And the thing about maps. When I was a new driver, I remember having to pull over because I was in years because I would get lost and take wrong turns even though I was learning to drive in the same small town if lived in my whole life. I can't believe I'm not alone!

I remember counting small change once and finding myself counting backwards...I didn't even realise I was doing it, when I did, i felt complete and utter crap. Much like i always felt when it came to maths. Worse still I wasn't on my own. I was travelling with my aunt and cousins. My aunt had asked me to find some change for the toll booth. Ofcourse my cousins started laughing and saying "Haha, Lisa's counting backwards!" I only wish this was the worst of my embarrassing moments, unfortunately it wasn't...
Going through the comments I feel really fortunate that my secondary school is testing me for dyscalcula. I didn’t even know this word existed until yesterday. I can’t use a clock to tell the time. No matter how many times a teacher has taught me I just can’t. And it’s horrible because I feel like I’m just stupid but I just can’t make sense of it and it’s especially awful when I’m doing an exam and I can’t manage my time. I always get symbols mixed up. Like minus or the add symbol and anything really. When I was younger we were being taught numbers that add up to 10. I was forced to stay in the classroom until I knew what 5+5 was. And I spent break trying to figure it out until my teacher gave up and let me out. I was 8 years old. I’m terrible at graphs. I can only ever do graphs that have pictures like a bar chart for example. It uses colour and it’s easier to know what the data is. If I don’t have dyscalcula then I’m probably just stupid. But I think I do. I’m not sure

I just graduated highschool and I only just heard about this. I wish I would have known sooner so I could do something. It would have saved me lots of tears, anger, embarrassment, and frustration.
For me it only was numbers...as soon as we were allowed to use a calculator at school I suddenly became really good in maths. But only because we used x and f(x) and no longer 1,2,3... ;)
I even managed to study physics (though I was horribly bad in exercises and tests with numbers in it) but I was really good in understanding and handling the Schrödinger equation etc....that's really crazy about me.
I really think I have this cause I still have problems reading the time or handling money when I'm shopping etc etc etc....
But to be honest, I don't want to change it. I want to be handicapped to show others, that you can still achieve a great deal even with a hanicap. Today I'm a science teacher and for my pupils this is, I think, a very valuable lesson. But I would help a pupils if I see any signs of dyscalculia and I also tell i to my maths-colleagues (who often don't know about it, a shame).
I'm 45 and I still use my fingers to count (especially adding) and get my left and right mixed up. I really struggled with maths in school and just felt lost and hopeless.
My 6th grade teacher was bomb at math she helped me so much and I think I’m actually getting better at math

I do stand up comedy for fun and I bring attention to it in my act and talk about the struggles I have with it and then say "Do you know how embarrassing it is asking my boyfriend to 96? I'm just kidding. I don't have a boyfriend" 😂😂
I would also struggle with standardized test, and my teachers would yell at me and accuse me of not trying hard enough or not paying attention or refusing to do my work and stuff, which is pretty unusual for well-behaved little girl like me at the time
I have no difficulty with left or right- so i am not 'typical' in that sense. But i am 40, and have no sense of direction, i am terrible with maths. I was 10 when i finally worked out how to tell the time. But i was the complete opposite with words- i had read 300 Enid Blyton books alone by the age of 9.

What helped me was not listening to the teacher lol. I took all normal classes and had done well.
I turned all the numbers into different shapes. I could make sense of the numbers by shapes. Now in real life the numbers are numbers and not shapes so I go by touch. Since I don’t trust my mind or eyes I trust my touch.
1 is a rectangle, 0 is an oval of course and 3 for example is a triangle. All the way up to 10 shapes which is all that I needed. It’s like even the simplest or mathematical equations are created in our minds as an overlapping multilevel problem. And when I learned in my own to solve the problem with shapes it had helped. Even creating small towers or layers of the numbers on the sheet had helped. But because I had been taking normal classes the teacher would often get upset and mark the problem as wrong because I did not put it in the equation they wanted me too. Even though the answer had been the same as theirs.
I am actually really good at human anatomy, psychology and coding. I used to want to be a doctor and that was my dream. Except when it came to the amount of mathematical course work, I simply wasn’t going to be able to do it in time and so I had a real fear of failure. I had taken coding and I was top in all of my classes.
Coding has symbols mixed with numbers. My mind seems to solve many of the coding issues on its own and so when I go back to re read the code to search for the problem I put in the code my mind already filled in and for some reason it always fixed the problem. We are not stupid, people often make fun of us but our minds actually work in a remarkable way. A way I think a lot of people won’t be able to teach us or understand. Which is why we have to find different ways to have our body and mind and eyes communicate what we are counting and reading. At times I rely on touch yet we only have 5 fingers on each hand and that is where the shapes in the mind had helped me out.
People, please don’t call us stupid. It had happened so many times simply because we do not think in the same ways or process in the same ways. We are stronger in other forms. Sometimes people don’t know how I could have known or figured something out. They can’t wrap their head around it, yet it was so simple for me and it “just makes sense”. They aren’t stupid, they just think in a different way than I do, so why do people call us those things?
Wow, i never heard of this but I always have a hard time not reversing number orders so even simple things like writing down a phone number or addresses become difficult. It makes math hard because I have to check the numbers multiple times to make sure I didn't make 53 into 35. I'm going to look more into this, thank you.
I have had dyscalculia ever since I was little I have found it hard . I am 12 almost 13 and I still can’t tell the time it is really stressful I also struggle with the “simple things “ that other people in my year find a breeze my teachers and parents are really helping me but sometimes I do cry over this condition but I’m still persevering all the way p.s please don’t hate each and every word I said was true to the core ❤️

11:35 to 12 honestly I couldn't do that without a pen, paper, and time. Also every single subject of math for highschool you listed were extremely hard for me. Estimating distance & speed is hard for me too. I can add, subtract, & multiply it's just getting me to understand how to solve the problem in the first place is extremely difficult. I get everything very mixed up.
I have been struggling homeschooling my daughter that I have not had with my other kids. She feels defeated and stupid. I am so glad to find this. I realize that this is also me, I got by in public school and flew under the radar and worked extremely hard with tutors to graduate. I had no idea that this is a thing.

I have this, I've had it since 3rd grade, we've given up trying to teach 4 years worth of math, so my mother is just doing my math..
I had a problem with navigation/sense of direction b4 being in forced confined spaces during my juvenile pre-frontal cortex development, however, anyone out there trying to visualize what direction your going I have some small help.
Look at the numbers; usually 150th and 28th street e.g. These almost always follow NEWS. Then memorize that smaller goes E/W and larger numbers go N/S.
As some one who had a 99% score in math logic and a 70% score in numerical ability this hits home. In all my science classes, math classes etc I always got points for my formulas but failed the final answer because I was constantly transforming the numbers. I have also suffered with the directional left right thing. Wherever I am supposed to turn or go I generally pick the wrong one. My way of compensating is to use physical landmarks. But very hard to do when you’re traipsing about a modern office building 😂
LOTS of people experience this. They have not been served in schools because there is literally NO training (in the U.S., anyway) for teachers to know how to help students in this area. This includes college. It is despicable. We have totally done a disservice to students, making them feel not worthy and as IF they cannot do math!! Anyone can do math, period. There should be better training.
Jeremy Parr I was put donw in a lower class in school back in the 60s I was called dum or dunst by other kids becouse I could,t read or keep up with the class I was back in 1981 with dyslexia as you see I still struggle with my spelling I like to learn how to use an abacus as I still have struble with maths I am 66 years old I know there are other people like me with dyslexic and like to learn to read and right as well maths yours truly Jeremy Parr.
Finally got a diagnosis. Im 20 and was a sped student, still funny how they never caught on. Needless to say, I AM SO HAPPY I KNOW WHY IM ABSOLUTE DOG CRAP AT MATH

I wanted SO BADLY to be an architect from as early on as I could remember. I would draw constantly and was always drawing different home and what I would one day hope to live in. But I struggled with math my entire life. I was told "there is way too much complicated math involved in engineering, that is absolutely not something you should pursue." and that was it. Was never once offered help- not even a tutor, my parents didn't even help lol! So sad. Now my daughter is struggling with math and I've been searching everywhere trying to find ways to help her. I guess this is the next rabbit hole I'm going down and I pray it helps! Luckily she just turned 7 so not AS MUCH time as has passed and I have faith that we can help her be successful!!!!!
I was thinking about getting tested for it because I'm in highschool and I still can't do like grade 7 math like by the time everyone finished grade 7 math I was like beginning it, it causes me to stress even more and become frustrated and like I start doubting myself more and more.

I can’t believe I never knew of this word until now as a kid my parents thought something was wrong with me and I was dumb I can’t believe I have it I felt ashamed and even my mom used to call me dumb I front of my face and people in school laugh at me for it I’m speechless and shocked
Due to my brain injury (aged 48) I developed dyscalculia, a bit of dyslexia and trouble understanding what I see together with visual problems, muddling up left and right, not being able to follow simple directions and having trouble driving (I stopped for a while, luckily I became aware of how incapable I suddenly was) and crossing the road on foot - and lots of other things that were so easy before became very difficult. So it doesn't just apply to kids: it can suddenly happen to adults too. Also I now get extreme fatigue trying to do numbers/maths (including my banking and other paper-work) is terrible (it makes me cry sometimes) - plus it makes me hungry because (I think) my damaged brain is having to use so much more energy!

i love math, but i was always shamed by my parents, peers, teachers that i cant remember or grasps math the way they understand/memorized it. i was often made fun of by asking me math questions like 12x16 to prove how bad I am with math "when even a 12 year old already knows this/ this is gr4-6 basic math." I dont know my subtractions. multiplication nor division, but always thrived on many difficult subjects throughout gr9-12. my calculator was my best friend and mental math was my hell. I held myself back from pursuing higher tier course because it prohibits my use of calculators even when were learning the same concepts.
I found out I had Dyscalculia when I was 34/5 years old. In school I excelled in other subjects but failed math every time. I can add but that's about it. In school (and from my father) I was constantly told, "You're just not trying hard enough." They barely new what dyslexia was or that it could be applied to mathematics. 41 now. An institute in Orlando, Florida (who diagnosed me with Dyscalculia) was helping me but unless I constantly did the math, I'd lose all I learned in a couple of days.
I was in the third grade and had a math test and got every numerical equation wrong but all the word problems I got 100% correct..my teacher realized this and gave me the same test with all written and or word problems and I got a 100% on the test
I’m homeschooled and 16 and it’s only recently I’m realising how bad my maths ability actually is, I can’t seem to grasp anything. I’ve literally forgot everything I have learnt from my time in main stream which was at least all of primary and half of secondary. I try to self teach myself maths but it’s a struggle, even if I do get some where I end up forgetting it. I took a break from maths for a while due to how much stress not being able to do it was causing me and because no matter how hard I try it wasn’t staying with me and it’s really bad because I can’t take GCSE maths because there’s no guarantee I will pass, I do bad enough on past paper’s. I hate it, I was tutored for at least a year but I’ve forgotten everything. I honestly feel this is something I have and I’m going to try get tested for it if I can, why am I like this. I need to pass a math qualification at some point because you need it for jobs but how am I supposed to with this. 😕
I believe I have this, because in every other class I had A’s but in math I always would have d,f, sometimes even c’s I would sometimes try but I got to a point when I didn’t care anymore. But only when I got extra help is when I had gotten an A because I made up for so many missing assignments that I found to hard to do. I also received the honor roll throughout the whole year. Tutors were helping only sometimes, but as soon as I got off of them I started doing terrible again. It’s always felt like when people tried to explain stuff to me my brain would go blank cause they were speaking to fast or I couldn’t even understand what the problem was saying or what they were saying. It was like trying to read a foreign language, except I knew the words but just couldn’t make sense of them.
I don't know if I have it, but I struggle SO much with maths. I cry sometimes because it's too challenging for me. I don't even know all my × tables. I have a friend who's brother who does tutoring just for 3 of us, and his sister told me there is definitely a possibility I might have Dyscalculia.
What math curriculum's do you know that work well people who have dyscalculia?

When I was at school in the 60's i left at 14 and 9 months , the teachers called you thick stupid lazy not interested backward a waste of time !.
The official name was suffering from number blindness .
I never passed a arithmetic test or math's exam the whole time I was there .
The really frustrating thing was ?, apart from 3 weeks for 2 hrs on a Wednesday me and 5 other kids had the headmaster trying to teach us fractions , as we had been off for 2 weeks with tonsilitis ,I was in year 6 .
On the last day the head master said you wont become a doctor but you probably will end up sweeping the streets or a navy ?.
I only answered 4 questions in the 11 plus one was my name and the other was my class I did the 2 additions and got the subtractions wrong I also got the multiplications wrong as i added the dots up wrong as I didn't know the times tables and had to do dots ie 7x7 was 7 lots 7 dots etc.
When I started secondary modern school I got sent out in the hall way after the first 15 mins because the Sheila teaching said she didn't have any one in her class that doesn't know there times tables ?.
I spent 2 weeks out there till the head master asked why i was there so I told him , he had words with her and was back in class .
After putting up with her shit for 2 months she said i would fail the half year exam ?, and it was my fault because she couldn't spend extra time helping me as it wasn't fair on the other kids .
When we did the practice test for it 2 weeks before she looked over my shoulder and started ranting and raving saying why are you doing dots ?, i said that's how i have to do, them
She then said that's what babies do , and if i see that on the exam i will mark it as wrong ,
You should have heard the tantrum when I only did 2 questions in the exam ! .

When i had to see the head master he asked why i only did 2 so I told him what she had said about using dots and that she kept tell me I was going to fail .
He said have another go at it i only did 4 in the allowed time , I got the 4 right but it still wasn't enough to pass .
Im 54 and found out i have dyscalculia last year. It was actually a relief knowing i wasnt just stupid lol
I found out I had discalculia in high-school got bullied of it but yet again I think I can get through this and I'm 21
Well, I learned a couple things. I read maps really well. Almost no issues with left/right. Absolutely no retention of algebra computations though. I struggle with measurements but that could be eyesight issues.
I’m almost 30 years old and I just found out that I had this after taking two online quizzes to determine if I have dyscalculia
I always struggled with maths in school and had to work hard to overcome it to pass my GCSE maths. I never struggled with other subjects except physics. My brain just seems to work much slower in working out maths problems. For me the main maths difficulties are the basic things like number bonds, whereas strangely I found algebra to be OK. I've noticed that I often say the wrong number when reading numbers out loud such as over the phone even when I'm looking directly at the number. I have to concentrate really hard to say the correct number. It definitely seems to be a kind of dyslexia of numbers.

The math system you are using has lots of problems .
Funny, I'm adult with Dyscalculia. I have no problems reading an analog clock. I can handle every day money issues (like budget, making change, calculating a tip) just don't expect me to do any math without my handy dandy calculator. I'm also completely useless with any math harder than 5th/6th grade math. It's my ADHD/Dyscalculia.
I am a volunteer math tutor dealing with an adult student with all the symptoms of dyscalculia. I really wish there were resources available to help me, as an instructor, remedy her problems. It seems that anything available has a significant price tag and our government sponsored program has no budget for such items. I wish there were on-line exercises, puzzles or games that could be downloaded and administered to help her. I am obviously not alone in this situation but it seems that no NGO exists to support this.

I didn't know this was even a thing until my late 20s, I still can't do cash handling because I read the numbers out loud and my brain just decides randomly to switch up the change with the dollar amount, when I used to have a bank at work it took me entirely too long to get my numbers right and god only knows how many people made a profit off me giving the wrong change in their favor

I found out abt this disorder months ago and I’m now just doing research to see if I have dyscalculia or something similar because I’ve really been struggling with math since grades 3-4 which is when I got diagnosed with adhd which may be leading to me having this I don’t exactly know yet
I am 52 years lady. I am depending on my husband about money. It is hard to do calculation in my mind just like percent of something. I have some level learning problem. I know my right or left. I just needed more attention with my problem when I was child. I needed more practice with math.
For a while I thought I had this, but after watching the video I know that I'm just simply shit at maths due to my teachers failing to notice my struggles from the beginning, and if they did, not doing anything about it and most noticeably my own laziness and complete lack of motivation

My maths teacher was magnificent and had all the time in the world- no matter how bad i was, he always had the time to explain. Sadly, to this day i just never bloody understood.
I was just really shit at maths- and tried my best. I just couldn't fathom it; so i know it wasn't the teacher's fault. He was the best. I just couldn't wrap my head around it and still can't to this day.

Wow I realize I have this and have for years. When I request vacation at work I'd write wrong days and I have had to check several times. I'd have to stop and think what's right and left or me when driving and felt like I get turned around easily. I cut up my debit card bc for some reason I thought the date was expired. I think I see numbers one way and then turns out its another.
What 2 do when youve just been diagnosed with a math learning disability 😵 they didnt specify anything but ive been trying to do research. At this point I dont know where to go next!
I try to avoid anything related to numbers. This includes counting money which I worked for.

I don’t think I have this, but I’ve always had a hard time remembering measurements. Like, how much distance is an inch or a meter. The only one I can remember is 6 ft because of all the stickers I’ve seen for social distancing. When I was driving, it was hard to tell if there was enough space to change lanes. Other people just don’t seem to have that issue.
I also would often write the wrong number on my tests. Like, I would write a 9 when I meant 6. Then I would look like an idiot who thought 3*2 was 9.
I also am always counting with my fingers too keep track.
is there any links to australian, or sydney based, professionals who I can see and get this diagnosed for my son? i have found it near impossible to find anybody who even knows what this is let alone a specialist to direct me too. He has dyspraxia aswell.
