    As a 2023 BRZ limited owner, love your channel so far. Hope you get more subscribers! Your content is just about perfect for what I am interested in.
    I live in the mountains of southern NM with awesome roads and very few people. Lots of tight turns. Even with altitude from 8-9500ft with the attendant loss of power, the BRZ is simply perfect.....after you pull the plug on the sound synthesizer. And, because I hardly ever have to stop, I routinely average well over 30mpg, even while hammering the car around corners. I even don't think it is that loud, except for really rough gravelly pavement.
    Love the Edmunds U-turn video where the BRZ beat the new turbo WRX in acceleration. As the co owner (now with my son) of a Cobb Stage 2 2004 WRX wagon, I can say that the old WRX is faster, but does not handle near as well.
    We have lots of bumps mid corner here, and I am amazed how the BRZ just ignores the bumps even when pulling serious G's. I wonder how well the GR86 would handle them with the stiffer setup? Maybe something to review for you?
    BTW, just replaced my initial set of Michelin PS4's with the new PS5's instead of the PS4S or other options. Seriously impressed with this new tire that just became available in the US. And have to like the 30000mi warranty.
    Can you tell me where you got the 8:27 number for the BRZ? Was it stock? Is there a video?
    Another BTW, I am always amazed at all the people who say Subaru should have added a turbo to the BRZ. With Subaru's current design, this is basically impossible which people should be made aware of. The pre 2015 cars had the turbo plumbed to the right rear of the engine towards the top. My 2004 wagon is like this. However, starting in 2015, they plumbed the turbo at the bottom right rear of the engine to shorten the exhaust runner length and reduce turbo lag. The turbo is basically under the engine. My 2017 Forester XT is like this. With the extremely low ride height of the BRZ, the turbo design that Subaru uses for the 2.4 simply would not fit without raising the engine significantly. Something you obviously don't want to do with the low Center of Gravity vehicle.
    Anyhoo, love your channel. Keep it up!

      Hey thanks for the support -- it looks like we're cut from the same cloth 🤙.
      100% agreed on how the BRZ soaks up bumps; comparing to a GR86 is a great idea! Also agreed with how a turbo, routed in an OEM style, would jeopardize the COG. A roots blower on an STi model though...I'd love to see it!

      @@KonkrRoads I think the PS5's might be just a tad quieter. But the PS4's were not bad. But like all summer tires I have had, they get a bit louder as they wear (but then they handle more like slicks!).
      I live by Cloudcroft New Mexico. Our house is at 7500ft and Cloudcroft is around 9000. The roads aren't particularly long and one you cannot ride in a loop. But The Sunspot highway (130 out of Cloudcroft, turn right on the Sunspot Observatory (hwy 6563 [which is the spectral wavelength of Hydrogen as an omage to the solar observatory!]) is 32 miles of wonderfullness......Rides along the ridge for most of it and then drops down to the town of Timberon. Tons of up and down and tight turns. This is better to ride on the weekdays or shoulder seasons as weekends have lots of tourists in the summer.
      My go to quick ride loop is to go down to Mayhill and drive hwy 130 up to Cloudcroft which is around 30 miles for me. Good reason to run errands in Cloudcroft. 130 is usually pretty empty.
      Then I also take hwy 82 east to hwy 24 and do the loop back to hwy130 through Pinon. This road is always empty.
      You can also drive 244 to Ruidoso from Cloudcroft which is really pretty, but not as great a driving road as the others.

    I own a BR86 and love it, but i think why people say it's too slow is for two main reasons. hp per dollar and it "looks" like it's fast. A lot of straight line driving in the states and there are a lot of cars with faster 0-60's in the same price range. I've owned plenty faster cars but they were not nearly as fun to drive as the new BR86, which I think is the most important factor to a sports car.

    I drove a Cobalt SS/SC with some mods as a daily driver for years. The GR86 drives and handles noticeably better and I don't have to worry about extra maintenance with forced induction. The whole reason I bought a GR86 2023 was because it was one of the few new affordable sports cars that still offered all the perks small tuner cars from the 2000s used to offer. If you loved the small tuner cars from the late 90s and early 2000s then this is one of the cars you want to try out. People do not realize getting 228 HP out of a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder is nothing to laugh about AND it is RWD. You can easily get near 250HP with a good header, exhaust, intake, and a E85 tune. If you want to go the turbo or supercharger route then 300HP + is easily accomplished. I do not think it is needed, but the platform is there to build on. These types of cars are a dying breed and I doubt we will see many more in the future.

      All very well said, especially on the nostalgic factor. The BRZ brings back Z31 300ZX memories for me (I had three: 87, 88 Shiro, 89 all manual) and the interior even has Isuzu Impulse vibes (learned stick in this). You own any other older cars aside from the Cobalt?

  • @ExJFKFO
    @ExJFKFO 3 месяца назад +8

    Totally agree with you that our perpective on speed has gotten insane. I own a 2nd gen BRZ and its plenty fast enough for me 90% of the time. I owned a C7 Z51, which would blow the doors clean off my BRZ, and yet this car puts a much bigger smile on my face.
    Only thing I'll point out is that tire tech has big one of the biggest 21st century evolutions in car performance. I'd bet, if you could put some of those classics on the same set of shoes that come on the top trim twins, those numbers might change quite a bit.

      @KonkrRoads  3 месяца назад +2

      Super good point on tire tech. To the same point, it's still quite impressive the 86/BRZ laps so quickly on 215 street tires.
      I also came from a higher HP American car and agree 100%-- I had a 2016 Mustang GT performance package with a 6spd...450hp or so -- BRZ is much, much more fulfilling and fun to drive.
      You do any mods to your BRZ?

    • @ExJFKFO
      @ExJFKFO 3 месяца назад +1

      No performance mods. New taillights, a Borla S Type exhaust, a mini amp and factory sub for the stereo. I also adjusted the clutch pedal slightly closer to the floor to find a more natural engagement point. Besides a winter wheel and tire set up soon to come, that's probably about all I'll do. Feels about perfect for my use case as a daily urban runabout.
      To your point about fun being about far more than spec sheet numbers, the twins were not even on my radar when I initially started shopping. I had my sights set on a Mach 1. I test drove a GR86 on a whim, mostly out of boredom, as I was waiting for a Mach 1 in the spec I wanted to pop up on the market, and IMMEDIATELY fell in love. Compared to the Mach 1, it just felt special and engaging all the time, even at pedestrian speeds. Only thing I'll truly miss from the Mustang is the Tremec. That shifter is perfection.

      The current design of the Subaru Turbo is underneath the engine to make the exhaust runners as short as possible and reduce turbo lag. Forester XT, current Outback and Ascent and Legacy GT all have this design. With the engine so low to the ground with the BRZ, there is no way they could use their current turbo design without raising the engine a significant amount which would negatively affect the Center of Gravity and of course really mess with the handling.
      There are probably other turbo options from the aftermarket and I know there will be superchargers. But the Subaru design they currently use for the WRX and other vehicles like the Ascent and Outback will not work with the BRZ. I think that is why Subaru does not do it as it would be a massive expenditure for a completely different engine design that would not be used in other models.

      @@KonkrRoads modified NB2 mazda miata but I just sold it and im actually going to get the 2nd gen BRZ, used, in a few days. Lol. Sorry my original comment was supposed to be satire 😂 the amount of people complaining about power is great because it keeps the prices of used models down. But its crazy that people want ot to have "usable back seats" 😂 its a 2door guys. Comon. We all know that that back seats are just for a legal loophole and insurance reasons in various countries. Plus its a great spot for some groceries or a dog.

      Update: picked up a 2023 BRZ Limited in WR Blue. Got it as a certified used model with only 5k miles on it for $26k USD and im loving it. Coming from an NB2 miata to this is a huge upgrade all around. Sure, I lose the convertible top, but I gain a lot more torque and power, a much more planted feel around corners yet still has a comfortable ride even over potholes, more comfortable seats(but still needs lumbar support), more interior space, a much quieter interior on freeways(miatas are horrible above 40mph, this one is MUCH more generous on the ears with the electronic engine noises disabled) and I can put more than 4 grocery bags in the trunk now! 😂

      Agreed. Dissing the 86 follows the Nickelback phenomenon. 86/BRZ is the most fun car I've had...if I put some cheap tires on I doubt there'd be any car more fun regardless of price 🤙

      @KonkrRoads i had a 2013 FRs with some modds. I traded it in for a honda pilot because I moved to Florida and had another child on the way 4 in total and we share 1 car 😞. But I'm definitely saving so the wife and I have a weekend car and have dates nights with. My wife loves the car too.We have really good memories of just driving and getting lost for hours.
