To make it clear, this list is comprised of cars that I have driven enough to evaluate! Which is why there are no Porsches here or several other notable driver’s cars. Thank you for giving me some solid recommendations for other cars to add to the list😎 Some of them will be reviewed this year...
Any thoughts on testing Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing (or the CT5)? I love my Mazda 3. But want something more engaging to drive. I like small cars (and price tags) so was considering Miata or GR86 but also like the idea of sporting passengers. The smaller ct4 or m2 are considerations. But the ct5 for size plus v8 & highly regarded transmission are so enticing.
Was hoping to see the Z in a comparison video like this. I know it didn’t exactly release to universal acclaim, but it’s been hard to size the car up without being able to drive it, which has been a separate struggle for me.
Completely agree. Mine is my commuter and fun car (about 680 miles a week) and it kind of ruined every other sporty car that is affordable. Can’t imagine getting rid of it
@@jeffreyxiong205 About $150 a month, which when you consider that I'm only 20 y/o with a couple of minor tickets on my record that's actually really good.
Well, being a GR86 and a MX-5 ND rider, I agree with your statements. More fun is just to have both in your garage and have the luxury in the morning to choose which one you like better for the day 🎉
@@Gurka84 If you can afford one, then go for the Miata. At least in Germany it is the more reasonable choice. Insurance is less than half of the GR, it consumes average two liters per 100km less and it accepts lower octane (cheaper) fuel. It feels more agile due to the weight difference of nearly 200kg and encourages you to play more. I have to admit that I compare a OEM+ ND (compliant coilovers optimized for country roads, braided brake lines, lighter and one inch smaller diameter wheels, sticky tires, front and rear strut brace, undercarriage bracing, lowered Recaro driver seat) with a stock GR86
Totally, I agree! The GR 86 is my favorite car ever but truthfully, that and an MX-5 is an UNDEFEATABLE combo. Those two plus a comfortable daily driver and you've done it, you've reached peak car setup.
Had my GR86 for almost 2 years now and my god it still brings me smiles everyday. It’s my daily to work and I take it on road trips and when I travel 12 hours for college too. It’s been fantastic to me, it’s comfortable when I want it to, has enough space for me to pack my stuff to college/ take it on road trips and come back with more stuff. Overall it’s pretty practical for someone like me. And it’s always fun too which is the most important part. Yeah it’s not the fastest is thing but neither is the Miata and yet it gets wayyyyy more praise than the 86/brz. It’s fun around town, banging through the gears and still staying around the speed and it’s even more fun taking it around corner whether it be in town or out of town or on the highway. I just set it at 80 on the highway and I love taking slow corners through the canyons near me like nothing. Fantastic car
I owned a WRX. Shifting was always a bit of a chore. It was a great utilitarian vehicle capable of some fun with a side of practicality but it wasn’t a joy to drive unless it was destroying snow on back roads. I bought a BRZ that I owned for 6 months. I debated the BRZ and the ND2 Miata before opting for a fixed roof. I soon realized I had made a mistake. It was fun on back roads but it requires so much effort to enjoy. And by that I mean if I wasn’t at the car’s limit I was simply in a slow car. In daily driving it was uninspiring…. …so I bought a Type R (FK8) instead. Nothing beats that manual transmission or the feel of that car. It’s still very much a FWD car though and despite Honda’s best efforts, the biggest drawback is still the FWD shortcomings you simply cannot avoid. But I loved my FK8 so much I bought an FL5 a few years later. It improves on the FK8 in nearly every way and is in my garage today. I love it. You should get behind the wheel of one. But… …after buying the BRZ and selling it shortly after I decided to get an ND2 Miata. And it’s wonderful! My favorite car. It’s a true two seater, no bogus back seat, and you can drop the top. I wished I bought it sooner. Even now, with an FL5 in my garage next to it, I choose the ND2 9 times out of 10. The Type R has been relegated to cold days and in 5 months of ownership, only has 600 miles on it because I’d rather drive the Miata. The Miata is an experience. It has one of the best transmissions in an affordable car in production today, second only to the Type R. And people love it! I get enthusiastic waves from everyone. Mustangs, big pickups, motorcycles, pedestrians, and more recently a shirtless dude on a riding lawn mower. Everyone goes out of their way to wave and smile at you when you’re in the Miata…it’s almost creepy.
So somehow the even slower MX-5 is suddenly going to be faster than the BRZ when not driven at the limit? And how is the bodyrolling Miata more inspiring? Sounds like you just needed something without a roof.
@@BB-wz6bx and it sounds like you’d rather have a car that can’t turn right without losing oil pressure…or did the new FRS / GR86 fix that yet? I never said the MX-5 was faster. I said it was an experience. I also said if I wanted a car with a fixed roof and back seats I’d buy something faster. Simple fact is the lightweight feel, true roadster Miata is the most FUN. Is this not what the video was about? Not about speed. And the sense of speed in a lightweight roadster is more pronounced than it is in a bigger, heavier, fixed roof coupe. Body roll and all. I owned a BRZ, as stated. It was a mistake. I’m not making excuses for it. I chose it over the Miata and regretted it. There’s a reason people love the Miata and it’s not for its speed.
Miata coupe was the answer. Body flex sucks and thats why coupes rule over vanity drop tops. Torsional rigidity is a big deal most arent knowledgeable to discuss...
@@65hi863dhyu I used to think this way but the small sacrifices in torsional rigidity are more than made up for by the visceral top down experience. Just my 2 cents.
I have a mazdaspeed miata on ohlins coilovers with a roll bar. It feels more rigid and on rails than any coupe ive owned. Bigger sway bars, and more chassis bracing than the regular Nb2.
Agreed on the Miata. However, with (also) 6'3" but with no longer a lean, mean, fighting machine physique (age is unforgiving), Miata feels cramped inside, though not as bad as the Toyobaru. Miata also has the nicest personality (as in the old Honda scooter advertisements, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda"). In other words, you do not come off as a douche, like the stupidly loud Mustang Dark Horse, or as a boy racer, like some of the earlier ones in your series. Miata is a grown up fun.
The GR86/BRZ have far more room inside than the Miata. I'm also 6'3" but this is not a matter of subjective opinion the 86 has more room in every dimension and this is the main reason I'm going to buy one over the Miata. I can fit in the Miata but it's so tight that I feel I'd tire of it quickly. I hope the next gen has a smidge more room for larger people.
@@IamTiredofsociety Perhaps that has changed, but I tested the Toyobaru when they came out, and I could not find an acceptable driving position inside. Sheer dimensions are not enough.
I totally agree with the Top 3, The GR 86, Mustang and MX-5 truly understood the assignment of being an an enthusiast car. It's all about fun and how they make you feel, and for that and being reachable to most people, I think they are some of the very best cars on sale.
i don't see why anyone would consider the 86 when the mustang exists. its the same kind of fun, but more so, for the same price. not only that, but you can get it roofless to boot. The miata is in a class of its own. its own category.
I have had many cars that are faster, louder and more expensive than my ND2 RF Miata but it is the most fun of the bunch. I love my RF but am seriously considering an ND3 soft top. I used to be a sport bike rider and the Miata makes me feel like those did except it is a lot more comfortable and certainly safer. It helps to drive it defensively just as you would a motorcycle as other drivers may not be calibrated to see tiny cars. It helps that I am 5’7” and 145lbs.
Funny to read this since I quit motorbike riding and went for the Abarth 124 Spider and now the RF Miata. Will never look back. Safety AND fun and able to go in every weather.
I can see the Mazda being the most fun on a lot of levels but as a rider in these cars with fast drivers, and maybe this doesnt directly translate, at multiple autocrosses the GR86 seemed more fun at the limit to be in. Ride alongs with guys competing for best time in their class of many. However as i am aware when not at the edge the GR86 comes across as more slightly more mundane (more like a normal commuter) but i find this distinction a interesting one, since after being lucky enough to experience both driven very well multiple times it still leaves me wondering. Up until 9/10ths and importantly most our time is spent well below that the Miata makes more sense but at least with what i experienced the GR86 is way more exciting, enthralling at 10/10th. Always hard to say with such a comparison it could of been the drivers but they were both very good.
Having owned a Miata before, and now a GR86, this is a great take. In normal everyday driving, the twins definitely just feel like a normal unexciting car. But they get more interesting as you push them. The Miata feels fun at any speeds and types of drives.
Just got a 2024 Miata club manual today 😁 just driving 30mph with the top down had me smiling. Always wanted one but held back cause of the nav screen. Now with the update I definitely had an excuse to get it lol
I like that you included the Polaris... its akin to the Ariel Atom, and KTM we can't get here in Canada. I love my NC MX-5 and I've owned older versions of the VW GTI and BMW M cars.
We had an 18 Civic SI that developed HORRIBLE oil/gas dilution around 77k and Honda said they wouldn't help unless the car was stalling or throwing engine codes. We traded it in for a new WRX with a 6MT, and so far it has been great. Sucks because I loved the SI, we maintained it very well and it was never abused. I will never buy any Honda with the 1.5T again.
@jedbriimc9879 I would suspect the DI system, relatively high boost pressure, and the fact that the 1.5 engines run pretty cool oil temperatures as being the causes. Our SI was completely stock, never abused and we live in Phoenix. It sucks because I really loved the SI.
I agree partially, I think that’s what it competes as. It’s the most fun you can get for the least amount of money while still having a good amount of cargo space. However, they’re incredibly different cars when you get to drive them back to back (I have a comparison between the two coming out soon)!
Heres my list of cars Ive owned/own now: '93 Toyota Trueno 20v - manual '91 Toyota Corona - manual '92 Mitsi Galant (2.0 V6) - manual '99 DC2 Integra Type R (tuned, spoon) - manual '98 V5 Sti Wrx hatch - manual '96 Legacy RSB (tuned) - manual '98 Legacy GTB - manual '02 Legacy RSK B4 - manual '00 V7 Sti Wrx hatch (tuned) - manual '20 86 Gts apollo blue (brembos, dampers) - manual '15 Mk7 Golf R (tuned) - DSG '22 Landcruiser - auto '19 X3 M40i - auto Ive touched most bases and I can tell you each has a unique fun factor. INCLUDING the corona 😂. If I would pick any as my go to, it would be the Golf R, hands down. People call them boring, but that all depends how and where you are driving it. Take it on a windy up and down road where you can actually experience the 4motion working, very few vehicles beat that sense of excitement. And Ive been flat out in the country side with a top spec 86, Dc2 integra whatever. Its what you make it. And I find people who cant get excitement from a Golf R maybe just arent driving it how its designed to be, or really ever get (anywhere near) close to the limit.
@RobLox-mr9px look at the list of cars, would I really make that up? Pull a 93 trueno out my rear? And why would I? Not really that far-fetched of a story.
EXCELLENT review, applicable to probably 95% of us for real use. My collection happens to be different and I keep ‘em a long time yet having a short Next List has proven handy
Sway bars, Koni Yellows, and more camber made a big difference on my ND2. The Brembo, Recaro, BBS package was quite expensive, but also very worth it. I can afford a faster car, but they are all so big that they would be way less fun on my favorite canyon roads.
Same with my NC. Õhlins, sways and camber have totally transformed it on track. I'd kill for those factory upgrades too.. will probably shoehorn a cheap bucket seat into it someday
I just got to test one. I didn't want to come back to the dealer. My sales guy even called me to see if everything was ok. Which until I get one in my driveway, things are not ok!
would've loved to see how the manual mazda3 would compare to these in terms of fun (not speed). not as fast as many of these but the gearbox and handling is still great and it still has great low end torque compared to most other NA cars so it still takes off pretty well.
I actually almost included that in the list, along with the Jetta GLI and a couple of others, but I was trying to keep the list from getting too exhaustive. It would be right there with the WRX, maybe one ahead with the manual because of how nice that transmission is! The engine and suspension hold it back for me. If mazda made a mazdaspeed3 with the new car, the potential would be huge.
Miata is always the answer... unless you're over 6' tall, in which case your head is probably sticking over the windshield and your knees are perpetually bent. ... in which case the GRZ86 is the other answer. (And the Dark Horse would be the answer but for that price you might as well buy a Corvette.)
I bought a 2019 miata new a little over 5 years ago, put 66k+ miles on it and it was a blast. The manual in it is simply wonderful as is the handling. Sure, a higher end camry will beat it 0-60, but it corners like a dream. Life happens though, and so I find myself in need of back seats. I picked up a 2024 WRX limited a few days ago, the manual transmission isn't nearly as good. Feels like a rubber band by comperison, though it does work well. Can't say if it's any quicker due to still breaking it in, but it seems like it's probably quicker at highway speeds while being slower off the line due to turbo lag.
Giulia Quadrifoglio was one of the most fun cars I’ve ever driven. Strange how many never have it on their list. It’s track time on the Nurburgring is top 100, and there’s been thousands of different cars on that track. RWD, ZF transmission, Ferrari derived twin turbo V6, billion dollar Giorgio chassis…ugh perfection.
Owned a GR86 on coils and wider wheels. Best handling car I've ever driven. But on straights it was slow and not the best daily so now I own a FL5 type R. The type R for me is the sweet spot. Power, handling and such a good daily.
No Guilia? Own a Veloce and think it's seriously underrated (in context/contrast to the Quad). Engine's not the best but plenty enough power, but in terms of the dynamics it's very good, got one after having electrical issues in a GTI.
As a sports sedan, the Guilia is still hard to beat. Awesome chassis dynamics and suspension. Put some Pilot 4S tires on it and hold on. My Veloce has 74k miles on it and it has been fantastic. It still makes me smile when I push it.
Agreed. Seriously underrated car. The best driving sports sedan ever produced imo. The base model is nearly identical to the QV in the chassis department unlike its competition. Far more fun and engaging than a Golf R for example.
Can’t say Ive driven the newest mustang on a regular road! The Elantra N in its comfort setting is pretty tolerable though for such a capable sport compact.
Great list! I have an ‘19 Miata but I think place it second to the new GR86/BRZ. They are just a bit better in handling and the extra low end torque is something the Miata could use. Also, I’d place the Dark Horse a lot lower due to the heavy feeling, bad blind spots, and numb steering, though it is probably the most track-ready of the bunch
I've owned both a Base 718 and a NA, NB and ND Miata. Comparing the 718 and the ND, I'd say the 718 is more fun, but perhaps not by much. The mid engine chassis and power make it a blast when you are ripping up curvy roads. You can feel the extra weight though, it does not have that incredible nimbleness of the ND, the ND also has the most sensational turn in I've experienced, probably due to the weight. If budget is no option I'd go for the Porsche but honestly given the value proposition of the ND it probably makes more sense for most people. Most of the fun for a lot less money.
Thanks for adding the 5N to this list! I feel like most reviewers don't mix EVs with ICE cars on these type of lists. I've been thinking about getting either the 5N or the M2 so all the data I can get, the better! And yes, I've driven them both. 🙂
You guys in America miss out on Hyundai's i20N. I own one in Australia and these things are awesome. They're a 204hp, 2600lb go kart. They were Top Gear sports car and overall car of year in 2021. They are a baby hot hatch version of your Elantra N.
Great commentary and I like the ranking order. But c'mon, you have to drive both the Honda Civic Type R AND the Acura Integra Type S and put them on the list!
If you're ever in California you're welcome to use my Type S for your driving review. I also own a GR86 and I'm switching between these 2 every week. I am hoping to add a club miata to my garage. Still deciding if hard top or soft top
My GR Corolla is the most fun car I’ve ever driven, and it’s also incredibly practical. Highly recommend to anyone who can afford and is looking for a 1 car solution to everything.
Last month I drove a Ferrari 458 in Italy, it was my dream car and I shouldn’t have met my hero. It was a great car but it wasn’t fun on the road. I’m sure it would’ve been bliss at 300k on a track but on back roads I would’ve preferred my BRZ or Holden Commodore
I'm curious, why did you buy the GR Corolla over the ND Miata if in your opinion the Miata is the most fun? It is daily use? Only wondering. Great video!
I think you are on the money. I really like the mx-5/miata ND models, but have 3 kids. So it was between the new BRZ and a 2nd hand mustang V8. The Australian market is strong for mustangs, so I chose the BRZ. It’s been a lot of fun, isn’t uncomfortable in winter and the 4 seats have come in handy also.
Miata truly is a "look at me im enjoying life" car whereas other cars are "look at me im a boy racer" car. The BMWs and other high roller cars are the FU cars.
Great question! I would love to see an answer to this! 🙂 I'm guessing it wouldn't change much except the Miata might drop down a couple of places (and maybe the GR86, too).
I've been driving a slightly lowered, stiffer sways, sticky tired Miata through the canyons and mountains for the last 2 years. Thinking about stepping up to a M2 or similar, but worry that nothing will match the Miata experience on those type of roads.
86 has more boot space when you need it. And whilst both the miata and 86 are fun , i think the 86 has just that little bit more aftermarket support if you wanna make it fun fast
Not for the price. I went from a 370Z to an NC Miata and though I do miss the V6 power, the light weight and sharp handling make up for it. You're always fighting the Z. Not to mention the price difference.. plus, fuel, repairs and maintenance costs are heaps more.
I've been driving my Kona N for the last 2 years. FBO + Stage 2 tuned on 200tw tires. Car has been absolutely amazing. I've had zero issues with it whatsoever, it absolutely rips with the mods and is unbelievably entertaining to drive. I've done multiple cross country road trips, several trips to Tail of the Dragon, etc. I can't even overstate if I wanted to how awesome these cars are at the current used market prices. I'm planning on trading mine in when I get close to 60k miles, which will probably be in the next 5 months or so. The problem is, I can't decide what I'm getting. Willing to spend more money, looking at the FL5 Type R, Golf R / Audi S3, BMW M240i, GLA45 AMG, etc. I've driven most of them now and honestly don't think any of them are more fun than my Kona is... Almost makes me wanna save 20-30k and just trade my Kona N in for another Kona N with lower mileage lol.
It's crazy how long this list is along with a few other cars that belong on the list, yet probably total combined sales of all of them is miniscule compared to all of the SUVs and trucks sold. So sad!
Yeah, true. I think one of the reasons why sportscars have fallen out of favor is that they used to be the only way to go fast but now they aren't. You have to appreciate great handling now and that is a smaller group of drivers.
I have driven a few ND Miatas - I respect them but they don't feel special enough for me. They feel like really well tuned normal cars. I want more edge and more power, even more stiffness. It's not my choice (I prefer BRZ and Elantra N) but no hate to people who pick MX5.
Same. Owned a NB and NC and as I'm older now, I want a more refined suspension and more power. They are great, but the body roll on the ND and the GTI feel dated compared to cars like the Civic R or Elantra N with adjustable dampers. You can really have both a soft daily and track suspension in one in the thirty thousand range nowdays. No need to compromise.
@@AnonAnon-qi4ts Nice. Yeah I was quite impressed by the Elantra N - very firm and planted feeling car but the ride was fine to me. I didn't love the FK8 Type R even it felt like a very good car. I think the engine sound was too conventional.
Does my Abarth (fiata) also rank first? 😅 I personally enjoy the looks and the turbo better. Just my opinion. Still sitting on the same amazing chassis
This list is incomplete without the manual Supra and the Type R in the top 5. I’ve driven most all of these cars on this list and the Supra and R are for sure the best of the bunch
the type R becomes really fun at the track... on the street it feels too restraint and breaks your back...doesn't have shifting pops or loud exhaust... not necessarily 'more fun'
Im doubting that they will redesign the mx-5 for 25 after they refreshed it for 24! (Ive seen the speculation, I just disagree) So if you’re not in love with the current mx-5, I wouldn’t wait on the mazda!
One of the most fun cars I’ve owned has to be the type r definitely is expensive but wow the car you get is amazing the handling the steering the shifter perfect just perfect
Fucking great job on the video bro! Pretty much everyone thinks you nailed the order. When does that happen? You must update this after driving some more cars like the CTR and Supra.
I'm 6'3 and the Miata is cramped but barely doable at my size (more legs than torso). The shifter is too close, pushing my arm back and it's claustrophobic until the top comes down. Then all is right with the world!
Depends on your tolerance for being cramped. I'm 6'3' with a long torso and my hair rubs on the roof, so it was a no-go for me. You could always but a kit to lower the seat another inch.
I really think you missed the mark on one thing. You talked about the Civic SI but not the Elantra N-line, or Forte GT. Both are equal rivals of the Civic, cost less, get better mileage, and I will say my Elantra is more fun.
I haven't yet, but I am driving a manual and an automatic one, along with a few others that I have not driven, very soon so expect to see that stuff on the channel over the next 3 months!
Very good list. The only head scratcher for me is the inclusion of a large and heavy mustang. As a gr86 & Miata owner, I love how my cars have acquitted themselves, but on my list the gr86 would be ahead of the Miata.
Id love to make an updated list when I get to drive some more and hopefully the Z4! A used list would be fun too, might take some time to get everything together for a video like that but I’ll review some fun ones when I come across them.
I have yet to get that for a review, i got to drive it at a press event on the track and then got a little more time behind the wheel to autocross it too but those events never give me enough time to film a proper review😪
I’ve owned 2017 nd1 Miata, 2014 frs, 2018 86 and yet my 2006 corvette is overall more fun than them. I’ll be honest though I want to get another Miata as a weekend car.
I think i might have to pin a comment but this is just my personal list of cars that I’ve driven, I haven’t driven the current boxter or any Porsche enough to include them here.
Problem is a slightly loaded Carrera S approaches Z06 money. Porsche is self sniffing farts with the Carrera prices. The Cayman S suffers from 50% less power and a safe, but not exactly hair-raising experience compared to a Z51 C8 or Mach 1\darkhorse. I love Porsche, but the prices are dumb currenty. They have moved into the full luxury GT market with the 911.
Modern porsches are not “fun” anymore. They are sublime on a track but dull in normal traffic. Also about the GR86, the engine note is really weird imo. I rather prefer a GR Yaris.
My favorite Porsche Cayman / Boxter is not on the list, expensive yes but it is a fun car to drive... I did test the Miata older model and found it fun but to much of a sport car for me and not something I would go on 12 hour road trips with (which I have to sometimes), so I am going for the more sports cruiser luxury sports car in form of a second hand used Porsche Cayman myself:)
for me its mx5/gr86/gr supra/gr corrola and the mustang gt each of them have there own unique character from turbo inline 3 to na inline 4 to turbo inline 6 na boxer 4 and na v8 and 2 seater sports car to 4 5 seater hacthback from rwd to 4wd and 4 seater coupe to hacthback to 2 seat roadster to 2 seater sports car.

…after buying the BRZ and selling it shortly after I decided to get an ND2 Miata.
@@mrnrfan182 There's a choice for everyone, enjoy.
I have an Fk8, but I rather daily my s2000. GR86 is the best modern day single car to fulfill enthusiast purpose. Unfortunately for the crappy engine.
similar story, I've owned two hot hatches before (up to 330hp) and my only regret with MX-5 is I didn't get it sooner.
"GTI: the handyman dad of the car world. It can do everything but doesn't understand how to use technology" 😂😂
As a german that's really really tired of the "Volkswagen Hype" over here I am glad the GTI is mentioned like that. I find it boring as fuck. 😀
I knew it. Miata is always the answer
@@gbarton800 not for me. I'll take chassis precision over a vanity drop top.
I have a mazdaspeed miata on ohlins coilovers with a roll bar. It feels more rigid and on rails than any coupe ive owned. Bigger sway bars, and more chassis bracing than the regular Nb2.
Unless you are over 6ft tall😂.
I've owned a NA,NB, and a NC. I'm 6'4 and while lighter than I used to be the ND seems to have less space than the others.
@@bearclaw5115 Yeah I sat in a GR86 today and I was very surprised how well I fit in it.
@@IamTiredofsociety Perhaps that has changed, but I tested the Toyobaru when they came out, and I could not find an acceptable driving position inside. Sheer dimensions are not enough.
Well I love the Dark Horse minus the ipad bs for a dash and I love the mx5 too.
I have the BRZ because it’s perfect for the curvy backroads out my back door. And I can fit a surfboard inside.
You can BUY it inside?

It has to be fun getting to drive so many cars. Great video.
It really is a blast, I’m ecstatic that people enjoy watching these videos enough to get me access to them🫶
I totally agree with the Top 3, The GR 86, Mustang and MX-5 truly understood the assignment of being an an enthusiast car.
I'll get into my Kona N and giggle like it's the first time still after a year and a half - so I'm bias 😂 those ioniq 5 N are SO sick though
For the money, if you’re getting an automatic, I can’t think of a more entertaining sport compact!
Just got a 2024 Miata club manual today 😁 just driving 30mph with the top down had me smiling. Always wanted one but held back cause of the nav screen. Now with the update I definitely had an excuse to get it lol
Congrats mate. I'll be getting my RF in 3 5 days after having an Abarth Spider 124 for 3 years. I love this platform and wish you much fun.
Ouch, yeah, Honda handled that horribly though apparently the new car doesn’t dilute near AS much🙃 glad the Subie is doing you better on longevity
New WRX is such a good bang for back, also have some more power on the table if you ever go that route 👍🏽
What do you think the main cause was ??
Do you live in a cold or hot climate?
@jedbriimc9879 I would suspect the DI system, relatively high boost pressure, and the fact that the 1.5 engines run pretty cool oil temperatures as being the causes. Our SI was completely stock, never abused and we live in Phoenix. It sucks because I really loved the SI.
Miata and GTI for me. One to do most of the daily stuff. And the other for the weekend back roads.
To me the gr 86 is a larger Miata..witch is what I want..
I agree partially, I think that’s what it competes as. It’s the most fun you can get for the least amount of money while still having a good amount of cargo space. However, they’re incredibly different cars when you get to drive them back to back (I have a comparison between the two coming out soon)!
@@Realistick I agreed.
Miata still too big, I want a Beat or Cap or S660
I just bought a 2024 GR86 and so far loving it! I thought Miata, but I'm a bigger guy needing just a little more room.
Heres my list of cars Ive owned/own now:
'93 Toyota Trueno 20v - manual
'91 Toyota Corona - manual
'92 Mitsi Galant (2.0 V6) - manual
'99 DC2 Integra Type R (tuned, spoon) - manual
'98 V5 Sti Wrx hatch - manual
'96 Legacy RSB (tuned) - manual
'98 Legacy GTB - manual
'02 Legacy RSK B4 - manual
'00 V7 Sti Wrx hatch (tuned) - manual
'20 86 Gts apollo blue (brembos, dampers) - manual
'15 Mk7 Golf R (tuned) - DSG
'22 Landcruiser - auto
'19 X3 M40i - auto
Ive touched most bases and I can tell you each has a unique fun factor.

I went with the 2024 BRZ to be my daily driver 😎
I just got to test one. I didn't want to come back to the dealer. My sales guy even called me to see if everything was ok. Which until I get one in my driveway, things are not ok!
did you pay msrp or over? is the Subaru vip pricing worth it?
@@johnkonde1975 I ordered it in February. It arrives this week. I signed a contract for sticker price without haggling.
I do think the Mini Cooper S/JCW would also be great for a fun car.
Really miss my 2013 Mini Cooper S 6-speed. What a fun car to drive, and at 6’5” surprisingly roomy up front!
would've loved to see how the manual mazda3 would compare to these in terms of fun (not speed). not as fast as many of these but the gearbox and handling is still great and it still has great low end torque compared to most other NA cars so it still takes off pretty well.
I’m a 2021 Miata owner! Of course I agree!
Miata is always the answer... unless you're over 6' tall, in which case your head is probably sticking over the windshield and your knees are perpetually bent. ... in which case the GRZ86 is the other answer. (And the Dark Horse would be the answer but for that price you might as well buy a Corvette.)
if i couldnt fit into my miata id go back to a mustang convertible. once you go open top, whats even the point of other configurations?
@@TheBirdboy84 vehicles that don't weigh 4,000 lbs?
Bro just said a awd wrx is slower off the line than a miata💀🤡
@@Capsainn Merely confirming that has also been my experience.
I have a 2016 Miata ND with an auto(i know, sacrilege) and had a blast at Tail of the Dragon earlier this year.
i just crushed the dragon in my ND. what an amazing car, seriously. so easy to keep it in the lines at umm, spirited speeds.
This is a list of cars that I have driven, I’ll try to drive one though.
For me was the 6th gen Camaro SS with the 6MT, GR86/BRZ and the Elantra N. Very entertaining cars to drive.
The gr86/brz are absolutely uncapable of doing 0-60 mph(100 kph) in under 6 seconds!
Several outlets have reported it, I’ll test it when I get a press gr86 to see if it’s possible in the real world.
Stelvio owner here, best handling suv
Agreed. Seriously underrated car. The best driving sports sedan ever produced imo. The base model is nearly identical to the QV in the chassis department unlike its competition. Far more fun and engaging than a Golf R for example.
Watching this while I’m sitting in my gr Corolla. Great video
How's the Elantra N compare to a Mustang with magnaride, for ride comfort ?
Can’t say Ive driven the newest mustang on a regular road! The Elantra N in its comfort setting is pretty tolerable though for such a capable sport compact.
Spot on! Great review! I own one. I’m in love with my Miata RF 6-speed manual. Absolutely the most fun for the money!
problem with the corolla GR is finding one at MSRP
Would love to see how the BMW Z4, base C8 Corvette or a base Boxster would compare to the Miata as a fun roadster.
My brother's brz punches above it's weight class.
You guys in America miss out on Hyundai's i20N. I own one in Australia and these things are awesome. They're a 204hp, 2600lb go kart. They were Top Gear sports car and overall car of year in 2021. They are a baby hot hatch version of your Elantra N.
Elantra N DCT or GR Corolla? I wish the GR Corolla had a little more space
Actually have that video coming out next week, though it’s MT vs MT!
Great video and presentation. I totally agree with the ranking. If it’s about having fun behind the wheel, Miata Is Aways The Answer.
Sir, you earned a new subscriber, loved the impartiality in the video, as a BRZ Owner, I totally agree with the arguments you showed
currently looking at either the gr86 or the mustang, ive heard the miata's a bit rough for 6 footers
Great commentary and I like the ranking order. But c'mon, you have to drive both the Honda Civic Type R AND the Acura Integra Type S and put them on the list!
I might make one next year if I can add enough to the list, I assure you, both the type r and type s will be reviewed this year🤟
If you're ever in California you're welcome to use my Type S for your driving review. I also own a GR86 and I'm switching between these 2 every week. I am hoping to add a club miata to my garage. Still deciding if hard top or soft top

I'm curious, why did you buy the GR Corolla over the ND Miata if in your opinion the Miata is the most fun? It is daily use? Only wondering. Great video!
Daily use🤧but im starting to reconsider
I think you are on the money. I really like the mx-5/miata ND models, but have 3 kids. So it was between the new BRZ and a 2nd hand mustang V8. The Australian market is strong for mustangs, so I chose the BRZ. It’s been a lot of fun, isn’t uncomfortable in winter and the 4 seats have come in handy also.
Miata truly is a "look at me im enjoying life" car whereas other cars are "look at me im a boy racer" car. The BMWs and other high roller cars are the FU cars.
Cadillac Blackwings? or did you not get to drive them
Haven’t tested one yet!
If you had to pick the most fun automatic would your order change?
How does the Nissan Z compare with the rest? It looks very enticing but would it be more fun than the likes of something like the 86 or M2?
Not for the price. I went from a 370Z to an NC Miata and though I do miss the V6 power, the light weight and sharp handling make up for it. You're always fighting the Z.
Not to mention the price difference.. plus, fuel, repairs and maintenance costs are heaps more.
Why was the new Acura Integra type S not mentioned which spanks most of the cars on this list 👀
Cause its ugly
I've got a GR Corolla; great fun AND reasonably practical family / work car; I recommend it!
thinking about getting a used brz, i wonder how the 2017-2020 compare to the new one
Honestly, it’s still one of the most fun Automatic cars I’ve ever driven! I wouldn’t blame you for picking up another.
Great man, enjoy your car and life. You can take a Civic, add some HP mods, sport tires, lowering springs and enjoy it like a BMW and N line Hyundai 😊
So many Hyundai cars in this video shocked me. I've heard once anyone say "Oh my Hyundai is so fun to drive."
You should drive some new N models!
Yep , the N division is best value performance. Had my 23 Elantra N for a year, and it's so fun to drive.
Gee, and what do I have in my garage? A Miata, a BRZ and a Mustang Mach 1 (kinda sorta the predecessor to the Darkhorse). Great minds think alike.
Interesting that the Integra Type S wasn't included. Not sure if you've driven it since you said you hadn't driven the Type R
Driving a Mirage from 40-60 is fun and you don’t need to go over the speed limit. And if you put a stiffer sway bar it can handle 40 on a corner
I low key want a mirage so bad to just go for it in.
Where would the Mazda 3 hatchback land on this list in your opinion? Thank you.
What about the f87 m2/ m2 comp? Its a stunning car and very capable!
Why is the 5 speed manual Nissan Versa not on this list?
Does my Abarth (fiata) also rank first? 😅 I personally enjoy the looks and the turbo better. Just my opinion. Still sitting on the same amazing chassis
I’ve driven almost all these cars besides the mustang and I agree. The only other car I’ve driven more fun than a Miata is the lotus Elise
This list is incomplete without the manual Supra and the Type R in the top 5. I’ve driven most all of these cars on this list and the Supra and R are for sure the best of the bunch
Surely the manual GR Supra is better/more fun than the Mustang Dark Horse. The Mustang is a tank of a car (3,900lbs).
the type R becomes really fun at the track... on the street it feels too restraint and breaks your back...doesn't have shifting pops or loud exhaust... not necessarily 'more fun'
The whole time I was thinking "The Miata better be #1" lol
Got some money saved up, should I get an FL5 type R or wait for the 2025 MX5 refresh?
Im doubting that they will redesign the mx-5 for 25 after they refreshed it for 24! (Ive seen the speculation, I just disagree) So if you’re not in love with the current mx-5, I wouldn’t wait on the mazda!
One of the most fun cars I’ve owned has to be the type r definitely is expensive but wow the car you get is amazing the handling the steering the shifter perfect just perfect
Fucking great job on the video bro! Pretty much everyone thinks you nailed the order. When does that happen?
You must update this after driving some more cars like the CTR and Supra.
Is there any or enough head room in the Miata for someone 6’ 2”?
I am 6’3, it works for me but if you have thicker glutes or a really long torso, it might not. Harder thing for me is getting in and out of it🥵
I'm 6'3 and the Miata is cramped but barely doable at my size (more legs than torso).
Miata bois rejoicing
Great video. If you have spent time in a normal (i.e. non dark horse) Mustang GT, where abouts would you put it on this list?
I haven't yet, but I am driving a manual and an automatic one, along with a few others that I have not driven, very soon so expect to see that stuff on the channel over the next 3 months!
Very good list. The only head scratcher for me is the inclusion of a large and heavy mustang. As a gr86 & Miata owner, I love how my cars have acquitted themselves, but on my list the gr86 would be ahead of the Miata.
Did you not drive the Integra S ? or did it not make the cut?
Didn’t drive it! Planning to soon.
Haven’t watched video yet but I’m saying Miata if you’re counting on cheaper cars. Fun for dollar, cannot be beat.

Id love to make an updated list when I get to drive some more and hopefully the Z4! A used list would be fun too, might take some time to get everything together for a video like that but I’ll review some fun ones when I come across them.
Another great video, this was a great comparo! I see you have the Golf R on your list, did you ever do a full review? Or did I miss it?
I have yet to get that for a review, i got to drive it at a press event on the track and then got a little more time behind the wheel to autocross it too but those events never give me enough time to film a proper review😪

I’ve owned 2017 nd1 Miata, 2014 frs, 2018 86 and yet my 2006 corvette is overall more fun than them. I’ll be honest though I want to get another Miata as a weekend car.

I think i might have to pin a comment but this is just my personal list of cars that I’ve driven, I haven’t driven the current boxter or any Porsche enough to include them here.
@@Realistick Sorry, I figured you had driven so many cars you would have driven 1. Thanks for responding.
For affordability the answer is gr86. If money is no object it’s a new Porsche 911/cayman. The only correct answers
If i got to drive the new boxter more, I think that has the potential to be number 1.
86? Yes.
911? Which one, there is like 30 models. And the base Cayman isn't all that either (lacking the flat 6).
@@bearclaw5115 cayman GTS 4.0. With 911 pretty much any of them are good. You can go base or preferably a carerra T
It's between a Cooper S and a Miata for me. Awesome video!
I new the answer before watching haha.
I traded my ND2 RF for Focus RS and still the Miata was more fun on the daily drives.
