The most shocking scene in James Cameron's "The Abyss" is watching a harrowing underwater accident, followed by a cut to Chris watching it on a monitor. It really killed the tension.
Always great to see Chris Elliott do whatever his bit was, during Late Nights heyday. Chris can be seen on the (Canadian TV) C.B.C.' show "Schitt's Creek" with Andrea Martin and Eugene Levy.
I can't understand why at least ONE late night host doesn't just copy 100% what Letterman did in the '80's and '90's. He/she could even get Chris Elliott back for bits like this - - and Chris' Marlon Brando impression. I'd watch (or record) this kind of show every night.
Back when Chris "had hair".. Chris elliot is a really UNDER RATED COMEDIAN.. I enjoyed his comedy get a life.. His guest appearance on The king of Queens Skink the bounty hunter on letterman. Eagle EYE . simply H ilarious guy....
For a guy that was discovered by Dave during some kind of tour with his mother i think of one of the studios? Chris has done really well. He's not a leading man but can act in other areas quite well.
He was also in a short-lived series called Tattinger's (sp) - the show was about a restaurant and Chris took people's orders using an earpiece/headset kind of thing. That's what I remember most about the show... Plus he had a guest appearance in one of those Law and Order shows.
dave "and a.... ... did you bring a clip?" chris "a clip, no i don't think so, they just kind of shoved me out here..." "i don't think we have a clip, we do have a clip? i guess we do have a clip..."
Does anyone have a clip of the old skit where Chris Elliot plays "The Dupper" - a little dog in a box, with Elliot's face superimposed over the dog's face, and talking to Dave. He tells Dave: "Hi, Dave, I'm The Dupper... and we're gonna be best friends, for ever, and ever, and EVER!!!" It is SO HILARIOUS!!! I think it was circa 1985 or 86, and it was the last "Viewer Mail" out of 4 or 5 hilarious viewer mails. I used to have it on a VHS tape a long time ago, that is how I remember...
If that's the same show I'm thinking of, Dave was _not_ pleased. No more "Mr. Nice Guy", the veneer of congeniality with the crew he likes to project was totally gone, and despite Dave's best efforts to pass it off and appear jovial, the hard ass _Mister_ Letterman was quite apparent. Sometime before Letterman's arrival on set, it seems that regular guy Murray had gotten a genuine, somewhat loose, party atmosphere going with the the crew (the _very thought_ sincerely treating the "help" as equals) and Massa *did not* like it one little bit. I'd be willing to bet good money there were firings, at least of some of those not well protected by a union.
man, these were the days, and Dave was the MAN...I remember waiting all day for this to come on every night. aah, life was simple
+Randal Clarke i agree
+Randal Clarke i uploaded another one with Chris that's a parody of This Old House. check it out.
Sure sounds your life is simple. Dave is gone. is ur life real simple now?
What a pathetic life Randal Clarke
@@NELOPES7 why the malice?
"Could you give me the name of the guy that helped you?" Crushed it!!
i've quit watching the news. I just watch old Letterman clips. Much healthier.
BULL SCHEIST I never saw Dave talk trash about politics on his CBS stint
I quit a year ago. I'm sorry it took me this long.
Still a great idea!

Exactly
"Can you give me the name of the guy who helped you?" Comedy gold.
No DVR back then, just me and my reliable VCR every night so I could watch these the next day.
I'm quite sad that Chris' career never really took off. He's definitely an A-lister for those that have seen his roles.
EAGLEHEART!
was he supposed to step into Burt Reynolds roles? i think he's done pretty good as a wacky comedian type. he's just not leading man material.
Yeah, well, he did alright. It would have been nice if he had a lead in a feature film. He was good in support on Groundhog Day.
Watch Cabin Boy.
Schitt's dude
Love Chris Elliot
He was always so quick-witted.
What ever became of Chris Elliott!? He was iconic in the 90’s, then just kind of faded away...Definitely a great comedian!
Schitt's creek. He's still hilarious!
These were ..great days indeed...most peculiar.
Nobody told me there were days like these;-)
This guy is underrated.
Better than Will Ferrell.
because he didn't make childish noises and shove the comedy down your throat he never was appreciated.
And he was actually on miami vice! That was a real clip for once lol
I know. I want to see this episode.
@@RobAGabor I was shocked lol it is real

Michael Mann used him again in Manhunter.
SOOOO UNDER RATED COMEDIAN!!!!!! I pissed my pants laughing when I first saw this when it aired. Thank you pukenshette!

that's catherine o'hara, not andrea martin. good show and chris is great on it.
My dad used to come down from upstairs and yell at us for laughing so hard when watching this show.
great performers
Yehh...he is funny as hell. I remember the show he played in called "Get a Life" I thought that was hilarious.
matrox That is a cult classic now
You can buy the series. I think I got it on Amazon. Weirdest show ever

Parting words from a talk-show host: "Good luck with your hair." 😄
Underrated
That hair !!!!
His wigs. LMAOOOO!!!

His dad was Bob Elliot, from Bob and Ray. His mother was a television director.
Ha Ha. Try again.
"Baking oranges." Brilliant.
My favorite book is "Daddy's Boy" written with his father.
I still have my copy. that book was great. Loved the photos inside too.
Man, I wish I could grow a head of hair like Chris's!
it was purchased
I've seen this guy in Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens, I didn't know he went this far back or about his talkshow stuff.
He was also in a short-lived series called Tattinger's (sp) - the show was about a restaurant and Chris took people's orders using an earpiece/headset kind of thing. That's what I remember most about the show... Plus he had a guest appearance in one of those Law and Order shows.
"Please, do pardon my digressions" 😂
"Can you give me the name of the guy who helped you?" :)
"Uhh, no"
"Please!?"
Didnt he get an Oscar for Cabin Boy?
Yes, in fact, it won Best Movie. How soon we forget.
lol
Unfortunately, no. The Academy is a fickle mistress; she often forgets her children born of January.

Dave & WWP had access to the best entertainers from around the World , but the best talent they ever had on was Chris Elliot.
Wow, Chris' armpit hair transplant has really taken off!
Why cant the current late night "shows" do good comedy like this?
He plays Don Johnson but Paul plays him one with "Secret Agent Man." Pat McGoohan would have been tough one to copy.
lol, that could have really been a tv show. I would have watched it.
I could grow that much hair but could never get it to stand up like that!
What happened to quality / late night comedy talk shows? Asking for a friend...2021....

Still remember Dave's first show with Bill Murray stoned out of his mind. After Johnny Carson Dave was the man.
