    Chris Elliott is one of the rare examples of being a child of a famous entertainment industry parent and actually having talent equal to or greater. Many today don't know about his father Bob Elliott who was half of the comedy team "Bob and Ray" (with Ray Goulding). They were extremely hilarious and clever with all sorts of droll humor. I think some of the droll and deadpan humor was imparted to Chris Elliott.

    Just a pleasant, low-key, decent guy... no trace of that “cool hipster” vibe he conveys on the show. He wanted to know all about my amateur music career. We talked about Christmas (my holiday) and Hanukkah (his) and upon parting I jokingly wished him a very Merry Christmas, and he wished me a Happy Hanukkah. This was THE best time to stay up until, well, midnight, if you were in certain places, IDK when, if you lived on the coast... I remember, back in high school, friends talking about these Chris Elliott skits, when he'd pop out on to the set as "Marlon Brando", of course, the funny part of it is, the real Brando would never have been so wacky. But that's wherein the humor lies. I hear this a lot. And maybe it's because I didn't start watching Letterman until 1995, but I loved his CBS era. From 1995 to his heart surgery, and then towards the last several years again, he could sit at his desk and tell a story for 10 minutes, and I'd be enraptured and in stitches. He never really did that on NBC did he?

    • @sdm12342002
      @sdm12342002 7 лет назад +6

      I think more towards the end, Adam. He would do things like ask Paul what he was doing over the weekend and Paul would tell him and then Dave would say "I'm going to fry up some bacon and watch televised golf." That sort of off-the-wall/out of left field stuff would crack me (and my mother, who also loved Dave's NBC days) up. He was a big influence on me...and not always a good influence.

    Don, that actually is 1 of the funniest things I've seen Elliott do (and he has always been 1 of my favorites - including the TV show he did called Get a Life)! One thing he missed is using the word "Nutty..." in that sort of jazzy, coo,l lounge-singer way that the inimitable (well I guess he is a little imitatable here:-) Paul Shaffer often uttered it. I even heard him say "nutty" again in a recent interview (2018 or 2019) and he still wears that word so well!
