Chris was like the perfect over-the-top icing on the cake in There's Something About Mary. That movie brought so many great actors/actresses best comic performances together it's insane.
Yeah, that line kills for me too. For the more entrenched SoCal insiders (i think maybe too insider for the skit) insert the name Tom Netherton (just as perfect hair but golden blonde, & yes, straight as an arrow...of Lawrence Welk Show fame).
May 1985? I really thought the audience response added something to that week of shows. It was a bigger response than I was used to watching in New York shows.
he charged dave a kids rate for a tour , before dave stated to work there . dave talked with chis and he laughed his butt off , when dave could he help the man .chis meet his wife at one of daves parties , his 2 kids come from this meeting .these are no words i can say about these two dear friends more then i have
i love the references.. and i love out-of-date references in general (johnny carson referencing "rudy vallee" on SNL LOL)... but isn't this a really old letterman. so the reference wasn't that old....... i love lyle/merv and the references.
Lyle Wagoner....... that got a massive laugh............. i had to google to see if he was famous for anything other than guest appearances (although i did like those appearances)
is it ironic that he leaves in a huff? or is that considered chris elliott?........... i wish this character had come back again...... and i love the "i'll be here from time to time....." reference. i think elliott says that for every character.
I saw one in the early 80's where Chris Elliott is an android and gets into a fight with Dave...Chris' head catches on fire and Dave starts complaining about safety on the set etc.... know the one? Available anywhere??
Look at the people in the audience. Handsome, pretty, jewelry, beautiful skin, they are all slim, no one is obese, no tattoos, just beautiful American people, dressed with charm and elegance.
Nobody cares what you think, so as a Brit you should go back to your Fawlty Towers videos and stay in your lane. Also, I urge you to prepare for life under sharia law, coming to you soon
I almost didn't graduate because l stayed up every night just to see if Chris would be on. Then l'd sit and watch Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Letterman is such a genius for sticking with him. Elliot is a riot.
Nobody did deadpan like Chris Elliott. He never cracked once. A comic genius. Vastly underrated.
It was definitely before its time. I think it pre-dated a lot of the anti-comedy/alt-comedy that's going on now.
Bob & Ray were great! They used to appear on the old Letterman from time to time.
I'll check it out. Thanks!
+nitedreamer23 I wish all the 'SNL is funniest when they're constantly breaking character' people would get that.
Chris added a ton to daves show
Chris Elliot is way underrated. Brilliant comedy.
His small part in Scary Movie is friggin hilarious
Before the Big Lebowski... there was “the laid back guy”
“Hey names are just labels man.” Amen lol
I love when Chris's mood turns mad
Chris was like the perfect over-the-top icing on the cake in There's Something About Mary. That movie brought so many great actors/actresses best comic performances together it's insane.
I have been laughing for thirty years at 'One appearance? Who do you think I am, Lyle Waggoner?' Great comic talent there.
Chris's references are hilariously off the wall. Chris once told Dave he'd been really top dollar the night before with Nipsey Russell!
Yeah, that line kills for me too. For the more entrenched SoCal insiders (i think maybe too insider for the skit) insert the name Tom Netherton (just as perfect hair but golden blonde, & yes, straight as an arrow...of Lawrence Welk Show fame).
Chris Elliot was great, guy just makes you happy.
He puts on a robe and relaxes in his dressing room after performing. A truly great actor!
The finest!
Chris gave this show an edge that has been lost ever since he left.
Love how he comes back out wearing the after broadway show robe lol
Sometimes a girl brings him flowers.
Chris looks like Jodie Foster with a beard.
+13jalopy Funny, I always thought that Jodie Foster looks like Chris Elliot without a beard.
good one. i was thinking skinny hulk hogan with more hair
@@wnerko7484 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chris leaving was like Barney leaving The Andy Griffith Show.
So many to name. Norm McDonald, Bill Maher, Jim Gaffigan. Liked Sam Kenison back in the day.
letterman and chris elliott were genius
May 1985? I really thought the audience response added something to that week of shows. It was a bigger response than I was used to watching in New York shows.
why would they have yorba linda in the background?? thats a city in the next county over...about 50 miles from LA....kinda strange
The Izod shirt with cutoff shorts.
Hahaha so funny, i missed this one in the series lol
Basis for Lebowski?
Let's just say that I'll be around from time to time to make sure you keep things cool.
Hey, names are just labels, man! Lol.
Chris had his broadway towel even on the left coast - a true thespian
That bro looks like he graduated from handsome boy modeling school
he charged dave a kids rate for a tour , before dave stated to work there . dave talked with chis and he laughed his butt off , when dave could he help the man .chis meet his wife at one of daves parties , his 2 kids come from this meeting .these are no words i can say about these two dear friends more then i have
i think you do a tv special on all chris elliott's hair styles....... beyond brilliant :)
i like his out of date references: Lyle Waggoner and Merv
and the people seemed to get them. that amazed me. norm loves those, too.
i love the references.. and i love out-of-date references in general (johnny carson referencing "rudy vallee" on SNL LOL)... but isn't this a really old letterman. so the reference wasn't that old....... i love lyle/merv and the references.
YORBA LINDA sign in the background, classic
He looks like an old school wrestler
Who do you think I am? Lyle Waggoner? Classic!!
big laugh on that
A true Genius
The surfer dude hair fits him.
Inspiration for the Big Lebowski?
I don't recall the laid back guy.
Chris Elliot and Andy Kaufman were to comedy what Niels Bhor and Werner Heisenberg were to Quantum Physics.
*crowd boos*
Thank you very much.
LOL
Not so laid back by the end of the conversation. As a Californian, I endorse this portrayal.
Lyle Wagoner....... that got a massive laugh............. i had to google to see if he was famous for anything other than guest appearances (although i did like those appearances)
"Pierce"
Lol
the original Dude
What was "Lyle Wagner" in reference to?
Making only one appearance in every show he was in.
Does Colbert do this kind of stuff?
nice
Looking like an 80s WWF Wrestler minus the tag-team🤔
This is the original dude.. the big Lebowski ripped it off
Funny as ****!
Quality programming.
is it ironic that he leaves in a huff? or is that considered chris elliott?........... i wish this character had come back again...... and i love the "i'll be here from time to time....." reference. i think elliott says that for every character.
Dave hasn't traveled his show in years.
Letterman..hands down..the best ever
After Dave retired....Chris’s career went right down the crapper ?
Pre Lebowski Dude
Names are just labels man
chris elliot is the man.
Not _once_ did he flash the Peace Sign..."laid-back"...pfffft...
Pierce Elliott.
I saw one in the early 80's where Chris Elliott is an android and gets into a fight with Dave...Chris' head catches on fire and Dave starts complaining about safety on the set etc.... know the one? Available anywhere??
Hahaha.. Chris was a proto-hipster! Yoga class?!
lol @ Merv
Wow, Chris Elliot took 2 cheap shots at Los Angeles in 60 seconds.
Names are just labels, man.
twelve
It was more laid back in California. Now it's just worse.
I got a Yoga class.
Bleecher creature
Chris made everything uncomfortable and cringy😂
Look at the people in the audience. Handsome, pretty, jewelry, beautiful skin, they are all slim, no one is obese, no tattoos, just beautiful American people, dressed with charm and elegance.
T
Let's not get so uptight about the weather.
=
Honey, can I have another divorce?
How about another divorce? Booo! Clueless audience.
As a Brit I don't find him funny
Nobody cares what you think, so as a Brit you should go back to your Fawlty Towers videos and stay in your lane.
