@@JamilaMusayeva I met my gf at a beautiful bistro. At the end when we asked for the bill, the owner came over and said: this is my pleasure. You reminded me for much of my mother. Your table manners are impeccable. She's in Russia and I miss her so much. This was the nicest thing anyone has ever done. We left a 40% tip to our waitress. She was fenomenal.
These are not social skills, most of people don't know or use this stuff. This is mostly for rich people who are dinning at some high-end restaurants. I'm sad you feel like you need to do this in order to impress people. Good social skills would be helping an old lady in the elevator, holding a door for someone, feeding a stray cat in front of your building... Acts of kindness come in all shapes and sizes. Do that and god will love you much more than for simply holding a fork in the "right" way.
I am really thankful to my dad for teaching me all this when I was little. Now, thanks to that and years of experience, I don't need to think much about it as it has become my second nature.
11:32 yes I totally agree about the note thing!! When people invite me to their home for a dinner or wedding/baby shower, I like to give them a thank you note the next day or next time I see them. It always makes a good impression. 😅
Can somebody tell me why this is being recommended, I haven't been to a restaurant in 10 months. And besides the only table manner I have right now is to not spill food on my bed while eating Edit: I was going to say thank you for all these likes, but I realized I made a funny statement, I deserve those likes, let me enjoy my self I've had a bad day today
I grew up learning this from my grandmother, it's a nice refresher, also great to inform me about the glasses...since my family never consumed wine or Champaign, that was always left out of my grandmother's etiquette lessons.
Oh my goodness what a glorious find you are! I cannot wait to watch all of your work! It's dawned on me recently that I feel uncomfortable at restaurants and I don't know how to sit and relax, how to eat without making a fool of myself. Thank you for such a beautiful channel.

This was actually taught in my high school home economics class. We also had a class that prepared us for job interviews, resume writing, proper attire for interviews. I guess the world no longer deem these classes valuable to the society.
Excellent way to share good manners. Thanks! I lived in Europe, and I found their ways quite sophisticated compared to our routine ways here in America.
A whole year late, but I'd say having proper etiquette does set you apart from crowd. Even though younger people nowadays don't know that's it's an etiquette, it still leaves behind a very good impression. What's wonderful about having them is that over time we wouldn't even have to actively try to do it, we'd be natural at it and only notice how far we've come when someone points it out. It still makes a person appear high class.
it is typically used by the upper class at formal dinner gatherings as these forms of eating etiquettes show you have class and have manners. i had to attend one of these "formal" like events for a huge family gathering in the past. half of the people there were wealthy, while the other half (myself included) were in the middle to middle upper class level. needless to say, it was quite intriguing to watch 3 different class structures. one being wealthy and having these subtle etiquettes that give a person "class" as well as their oozing aura of presence that is almost palpable. second being wealthy but lacking in these forms of etiquettes. basically having money but lacking in class. they dont have that much of a presence as the ones who carry themselves with that aura of godlike and class. you can probably mistake them for just being upper middle class. and finally, the common folks who lack in both money and knowledge of these social rules and manners but try their best to adapt and fit in to their surroundings so that they dont stand out in a negative way.
The hardest part about this is expecting the establishment to be able to keep up with your manners, but realistically this will only be applicable in certain circles that already know quite well about all the etiquette and are expected to act accordingly.
and also, "no elbow on the table", "both hands on the table at any time', "don't speak with food in your mouth","don't make noise with your utensils in your plate', "don't make noise with your mouth when eating or drinking", "don"t cross over someone else"s plate", "fork and knife shall be in your hands at all times for starter and main dish". This is simple education and good manners.
Im so thankful for my friends' grandmother who at age 9 taught us dinning etiquette & Tea party etiquette. This knowledge helps a lot when you want to make a nice impression.
I really enjoyed this video, thank you. People may not realize how much of an impression proper etiquette can make at a formal work diner or charity event. It shows a level of refinement most people do not have.
@Isabel reed just being present in a situation doesn't mean you learn from it. You need to be conscious of what is happening in the first place. You are the perfect example. You have witnessed my sarcastic comment about the idiocy of the original comment, yet you still don't understand the essence of the humor.
Iam actually watching this video to improve my English skills not because I would ever gonna act according to the etiquette but for real this lady is sweet ❤
I am* and I think that’s a lovely idea! 😊 This lady is softly spoken and easy to understand and I think listening to her will definitely help you improve your English skills, - a native English speaker
Dinning etiquette: 1- don't use phone 2- appreciate the effort of cook 3- thank god for giving you such wonderful meal 4- and always share it with animals and homeless. That's all you need ☺
Very useful. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad RUclips recommended me a video with an elegant lady who presents in a very understandable way a video, neither too long nor too short, on how to be comfortable at a dining table. I'm not sure in other countries, but a basic restaurant in France, even though it might not have all the cutlery, most of what you teach here is actually usefull and can be put in practice.
I am a society cross expert. Since I was a kid I always navigated various classes and nationalities. I quickly noticed that table manners were different everywhere and there was a lot of bullshit behind it sometimes. The only rules are don't stuff you face, don't drink and eat in the same mouth, don't make strange noises, don't invade space on the table. Hold your cutlery in an elegant way. Be smiley, don't speak politics or religions. That's it.
This is really helpful. I have always wondered what etiquettes and manners to follow in a restaurant since I was a child. Now I know them.I will definitely follow your advices the next time I'm on a restaurant. Thank you Jamila
These are lessons that every responsible adult should have taught their children. Born in the 60’s, and basically to working poor parents, it was the norm to have been taught dining etiquette. It was used at church dinners, having meals at family and neighbors homes, and also when we went to above average restaurants where we had to dress semi formal.
Yes it is true I hate seeing people in my young age laughing at that or saying things like "I dont need a men or "This is so stupid like, why? It is good to know.
@@me00088 it’s true we don’t NEED men, how is that relevant to the conversation anyways? My parents taught me etiquette, and it does make people “respect” you more. Though I understand the “why” cause why?
@@sassyqueen9739 It's true that when you have more manners you get a little more respect simply because manners are less and less taught to young people (From my point of view we need men. Without men, we women would not be here. Men are simply better at some things because their bodies are built differently than women's. Men are important in a way. Not to mention that everyone has a different opinion but that's mine.)
@@me00088 Of course men are better then women in some ways and vise versa. Though I do not think anyone needs anyone. At least not these days... Oh, and have a good day😊
I’m about to go out to a fancy restaurant to celebrate my new boyfriend’s birthday in front of all of his friends. I’m seeing some of them for the first time so I really want to leave a good impression. It’s also my first time going out without my family of closest friends, in front of whom it wouldn’t be terrible to do some mistakes. Your video definitely gives me more confidence in my capability to not embarrass myself, so thank you!
@@newyorker5010 like if you or your spouse are invited to a fancy dinner by your boss. I know a lot of people get nervous about situations like that. just guessing
More examples, Formal dinners, invited to eat at top table with college dons, formal restaurants, Chamber of Commerce Annual dinners, Black Tie dinners. As Karthik says, you never know what situation may arise in your life. ☺️
Coming from an italian family with academics and sportsmen followed by antique dealers, I was raised with all sorts of etiquette. This brings me so much childhood nostalgia watching this video.
Actually, I know there are employers out there who will conduct “brunch” interviews and based on etiquette (as opposed to experience alone), they will hire (or not) their interviewee. It’s especially important when your job position will require you to dine with specific people who are in high positions regularly.
I really doubt that in my country there are employers that may score their interviewers like that. But just in case, I think it could be a great impression for them.
"it's time for the bill..... you can do so by having eye contact with the waiter" me: stares at waiter waiter: *Scared for their life* ma'am would you like a 100% discount?
I bumped into Your channel accidentally and was pleasantly surprised. The presentation of the information is extremely interesting and the content is really useful! ❤
There should be more video like this for young people on RUclips. I feel worried when my child watches prank videos and little child thinks it’s fun seeing the exaggerating actions. Luckily, she understands that acting is for effect of the video not in real life. I really love the positive influence from all your videos. Thank you very much.
This is for me: 1- Sit straight (dont let your back pressing the chair) 2- Dont place your elbows on the table, but you wrists or on your legs; 3- Silence your phone, put it in your bag or pocket and place the bag on another chair or behind your back; You can place on your legs and cover it with a napkin Wait for everyone to be served then you can eat
Much needed video at the present . Good old us has 5 millions guests and nobody wants to host them. For those guests manners at the table are very important. 😊
I will practice it at my home , am from India and from a rural area thats why this is the best time to learn because after a year i am going to a big city for my further studies.
It's never bad to learn about etiquettes of certain culture, you never know when it may come in handy. Though, it is true, most of the places in India, you won't need to go this deep.

This was actually taught in my high school home economics class. We also had a class that prepared us for job interviews, resume writing, proper attire for interviews. I guess the world no longer deem these classes valuable to the society.
It is still very important albeit forgotten by the younger generation with adherent of social media. It is time to bring it back to fashion :)
There are lots of ppl who still lack manners.
Excellent way to share good manners. Thanks!
I lived in Europe, and I found their ways quite sophisticated compared to our routine ways here in America.
Damn shame. Bring home ec' back!
It still makes a person appear high class.
as a kid, this is everything i thought the grownup world would be like....

But now its only you commenting in videos 😂
Yeah... so disappointed
it is typically used by the upper class at formal dinner gatherings as these forms of eating etiquettes show you have class and have manners. i had to attend one of these "formal" like events for a huge family gathering in the past. half of the people there were wealthy, while the other half (myself included) were in the middle to middle upper class level. needless to say, it was quite intriguing to watch 3 different class structures. one being wealthy and having these subtle etiquettes that give a person "class" as well as their oozing aura of presence that is almost palpable. second being wealthy but lacking in these forms of etiquettes. basically having money but lacking in class. they dont have that much of a presence as the ones who carry themselves with that aura of godlike and class. you can probably mistake them for just being upper middle class. and finally, the common folks who lack in both money and knowledge of these social rules and manners but try their best to adapt and fit in to their surroundings so that they dont stand out in a negative way.
Thats ASMR level of teaching, don't really need to know all that but it's a treat to listen to and relax
The hardest part about this is expecting the establishment to be able to keep up with your manners, but realistically this will only be applicable in certain circles that already know quite well about all the etiquette and are expected to act accordingly.

I really enjoyed this video, thank you. People may not realize how much of an impression proper etiquette can make at a formal work diner or charity event. It shows a level of refinement most people do not have.
Thank you!
If that's the case, then who are you showing it to?
@Isabel reed but according to Jonesie these people do not have the necessary level of refinement so they wouldnt recognize it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Isabel reed just being present in a situation doesn't mean you learn from it. You need to be conscious of what is happening in the first place.
You are the perfect example. You have witnessed my sarcastic comment about the idiocy of the original comment, yet you still don't understand the essence of the humor.
@Isabel reed Sure. I did like the video. I was just light-heartedly mocking the original comment of this thread

That's it.

Yes it is true
I hate seeing people in my young age laughing at that or saying things like "I dont need a men or "This is so stupid like, why? It is good to know.
@@me00088 it’s true we don’t NEED men, how is that relevant to the conversation anyways?
My parents taught me etiquette, and it does make people “respect” you more.
Though I understand the “why” cause why?
@@sassyqueen9739 It's true that when you have more manners you get a little more respect simply because manners are less and less taught to young people
(From my point of view we need men. Without men, we women would not be here. Men are simply better at some things because their bodies are built differently than women's. Men are important in a way.
Not to mention that everyone has a different opinion but that's mine.)
