I have been playing for 7 years, always around high plat - low diamond. I discovered Awkward about a month ago, I am now low - mid Masters. After 7 years. He really changed my view on how the game should be played. Huge respects Awkward, keep up the good work!
This is exactly the same with me. I was high plat before watching Awkward, I've just now hit Master 4 on tank. I'm diamond 1 on support and diamond 4 on DPS. I went from plat 4 to master's 4 on a crazy win streak, maybe 25-1 yesterday?

Hey Awkward, thanks for your videos. I 100% believe the reason keep losing on OW is because I am doing a bad job applying your principles, but I keep trying and don't know what I'm doing wrong, do you have any advice on how to study your own play to find your mistakes?
When something happens, like you die or you get a kill, try to find out why that happened. Was it because of positioning? Awareness? Mechanics? A little bit of everything? If you can find out why something happened, you can keep that in mind for the next games. This helped me at least. (Aaaand Awkward answered much more concisely while I wrote this)
i personally rewatch my games (especially defeated) and frequently think about why did i die. it is more helpful to focus on one concept at a time, for example, off-angling or never stand in the open spaces or rotation or etc. it helped me a lot
This is really impressive. What really matters in your U2GM is that you can easily carry on popular ranks WITH ANY CHARACTER no matter how bad or forgotten they currently are. Of course even if you are Awkward, you'll still suffer with Ball on Diamond and up, but you can easily get out of plat, gold, or whatever, with any character, which means that if you are stuck in these elos, you just need to look to yourself and become better. That kind of advice isn't particular to OW too. Great stuff.

I'm a long time Ball main who gave up on him two seasons ago. I was so sad that I could just switch Zarya who I don't even play, and win a bunch of games I was losing on Ball. I blamed it on the Ball's hero strength. Thank you for opening my eyes with your playstyle and giving me the courage to go back to Ball. I have and will be watching this 10 hours video so many times.
Love your video… every other creator just sit there and pushes sterotypes about the game and making excuses for why a hero is bad or OP you play whatever hero and make it viable and when you die you just say the person was better .. very refreshing to see especially in this community and I just started so this is a new player’s perspective

To be fair, your other unranked to GMs are around 1-3 hours whereas this one was 9 hours lmao. I don't think Hammond is a bad tank, but he does require more effort and skill to play. But that is what makes Ball so fun, mastering a "bad hero" is one of the most accomplishing tasks.
Whilst I think Ball's low damage can still be valuable, and there is some obvious common sense in fighting supports, the sentence "I'm not fighting baby Dva with a Mercy pocket" as if shes some world ending threat (which to Ball, she is) is so god damn funny.
I was stuck in a plateau with Overwatch the last couple seasons. I just couldn't improve on DPS because I kept spamming in main and dying to spam. I laugh when I say it but truly the power of off angling took me to diamond 3, and I'm still going. The lobbies don't feel particularly difficult. Awkward, thank you.

As someone whose already a high rank DPS and supp I cannot lie almost all of my skills (mechanics, ability tracking target priority etc) have all improved massively from maining ball the last few weeks such a fun char to play if you can figure out how to get consistent value without getting shutdown with cc abilities

That third game really shows how much pure damage illari does. Illari was almost solo taking out ball with only bodyshots. Also watching cassidys tickle damage compared to how much illari was doing was incredible sad.
You can play ball perfect and your team will still get rekt and complain they need a main tank to protect them😂 distracting can only go so far if your teammates are too dumb to capitalize on the openings you create.

I play ball and every game there is an ana sleeping and anti me. Soldier who always chases and shoots. A bap or brig. A sombra and a Orisa. Every game. It's either I get diffed or have to swap. It's hard to learn how to play this game when everyone just counter swaps for tank

Impressive unranked to gm, this hero is hard to play
I’d argue ball has the hardest skill floor and ceiling of all heroes in OW2. So many insane mechanics that are impossible to master
