Loving this content, SVB! You’ve had me playing JQ the past week while watching Guru’s U2GM and having a blast on the Aussie screamer. Patreon support incoming.
I love this series and am glad you did wrecking ball. For such a cute character, he certainly causes more hatred than any other. Both your team trashing you and the enemy frothing at the mouth to counter you. Takes a super strong mental game to pull it off. Love this video!
Literally your video was right under yeatle’s so I watched his and came straight to yours. Here’s to learning Wrecking Ball, I’ve been opening up and playing many unpopular/underpowered characters lately and man has it actually been quite fun to learn and make them look good (Mei, Doomfist, etc.)
Great vid! I think there are a lot of players who are good at aiming and therefore think they're good at Overwatch, but fundamentally don't understand the interplay of systems. They can't understand that disrupting an enemy position can be as or more effective than really good "I shoot red".
Scout is the most important tip Yeatle gave you. Balls rolling form has Third Person view by default. Which is huge for examining potential targets and making calls. Combined with just how much fun Ball's movement is, you can scout and approach from numerous angles.
This video really shows the ball experience, I kid you not I had 16 games in a row where people told me to switch either in hero select or after the first fight, it was and still is my fault. Ive gotten better since then though so quite often other teamates defend me. IMO hes one of the most (if not the most) unique hero/champ in any competetive video game.
I love playing ball, but the thing that taught me how to play him was mount and blade. He is CAVALRY! Quick, effective strikes and causing a panic or route of the enemy is his specialty. On defense, you set up and crush any pushes to your point. Hammy Spammy baby, much love!
As a ball player when I first started playing Overwatch2, when it comes to Wrecking Ball I don't play like a tank instead I play like a ball. Wrecking Ball is extremely squishy for a tank and he is built for traversing instead of face tanking everything. I had to learn to be very bouncy and always on the move when it comes to Ball, because sitting still is a death sentence. Now let me say a few things for new players as well. 1 - Ball's shield is a safety net, use it when you are in the red. Especially when you need to make a quick get away. 2 - Aside from the poop & scoop trick, I have one that I find really easy to use on certain maps. Just grapple onto a thin pillar and spin, for a short minute you'll be able to cause damage especially when the enemy team tries to get back to the point and as a added bonus you can release at the last minute to make a quick getaway due to the extra speed and you can run over a few players on your way out or for added protection you can use the shield while spinning. I call it the "Spinning Wrecker". And finally be prepared when you gotta deal with teammates lacking in support or don't know how to use a support character. My last teammate had life weaver and tried to send me out of harms way only to get me blown up by D.Va's ultimate.
Just about every game, I force a Sombra switch. I stay in the backline and constantly annoy them and then just run away swipe a pack and in 3 seconds, I’m back at it again. The worst thing about ball is that often times, a Kiriko (ally/teammate) will try and chase me to heal me and leave herself stranded in the backline. Rule 1 for healers playing with ball with never chase him. If he is a good ball, he will survive and live off of health packs.
I stopped maining ball after OW2 because of the absolute disgusting amount of toxicity people had towards him. Watching this was so much of the end of OW1 for me. Now that he is buffed I am starting to get back i to him and I love it so much. GREAT video!! Hope you keep in touch with the Hamter play💪🏽
You know the fun thing about ball... is that you make your team mad and even the enemy team mad at you lol. I remember that chazm said that in one of his videos. I love ball, i kinda miss the grapling hook without the cooldowns when grappled
There needs to be something In the game explaining that some heroes fundamentally function differently than others, even if they're in the same roles. Same goes for support players who get flamed for not being heal bots.
As a hard stuck diamond ball main, I can confirm that I receive the craziest, wackiest, most violent, and most depressing chat messages after every loss.
It was absolutely perfect! Thanks for this video! I remembered how I learned to play Ball myself! Everything was exactly the same. It was very interesting to see how someone learns to play Ball and faces the typical behavior of teammates. it's very cool how you didn't succumb to toxicity and showed a great game!
Ball is my go to anytime I'm not having fun. He is super under appreciated and loads of fun to play and learn. When I'm sick of sweating as a support main, Hammond reminds me to "Be the Ball" and keep rollin' 🎱❤🐹
The reason I hate ball on my team is because they’re always flanking and you leave your team vulnerable to attack. You’re literally not tanking any damage. On top that, if I’m defending a ball, after awhile you just ignore them until you can get a good shot. If you don’t know how to play it well it’s not beneficial to the team at all.
I LOVE playing Ball so much, getting everyone raging is the pinnacle of my existence. You're sniping on height in Kings Row? Now I'm on height applying the pressure. Teammates too far to contest point? I've contested point for 2 spawn rotations back to back. Disruption and banter is Balls game. Ana, Roadhog and Sombra are definitely the only counters, we can slingshot into the sky and knock a Pharah off her ability timing or even as she's about to land you pile drive her back up. Remember that the payloads destroy your minefield so placing them behind the pay load is a little bit better if it can be helped. If someone is one shot use your grapple to finish them off (like you tried to do to the Bastion) :D great video
Also a lot of players don't realize how much you do for the team unless you're in the POTG. Like if you're pressuring the back line, you're keeping the front line at a 4v3 advantage and stopping the back line from healing even if you are slept, I try to throw a couple jumps side to side in when I'm 1v1 with Ana so she might miss the dart. Stall the point so they have less time on the next if you can't do anything else. Reload only in the ball never outside of the ball (2-3 seconds of scouting time if you ask me) then recontest when you have shields again
As a fellow Baller, I'm so happy you actually covered the verbal abuse aspect as well. The toxicity in this game is already seething, but playing Hammond on top of that? Season 1 & 2 was pure abuse lmao, but so far after the buffs, most games people have kept quiet. I've only had a game or two so far in season 3 with ball haters on the same team.
ball is my favorite tank and one one i’m best with but i hate when i’m always the first person people decided to flame but this vid motivates me to try and rank up as ball
Ball is his own subway surfer game with guns attached ... if you master the mobility and line of site no one can touch you and if you get the charge runs right u can flank so damn quick! Even sombra will cry
Great example of why I don't do competite. I love playing rein, but he isn't the only tank and I don't want to play him every game but people don't seem to get that
Gone through the same stages, though my Yeatle was just a recording but the same tips apply. Ball's so much fun and I found it can really be the unexpected solution in uncoordinated matches with low heals AND against anti-nade. Use Yeatle's 3 S' strategy and find the best way to exploit the chaos. It's like playing Katamari Damacy except you're rolling egos. Hampter's been the answer to switch to in so many matches that it slowly grappled all the way up to be my most played hero.
Tips for Ball players *DON’T RELY ON SUPPORTS.* Ball is really fast so you can easily get health packs and get back to fights fast plus it’ll mean 1 less person for them to heal. But they should heal you when you’re close to them and just needs a lil healing. So next time you lose a game don’t blame your supports blame yourself (or the dps if they’re doing bad)
the flaming..... welcome to the life of a ball. Getting flamed is just part of the process. you have to play at an extremely clean level for teammates to even tolerate your existence.
I love Wrecking ball, it's Such a fun hero. One of my simple setup's is to get behind the enemy and just shoot at them from a distance to cause a distraction. I will shoot at them for as long as they turn around to shoot back. sometimes you get lucky and cause enough distraction for your team to capitalize on. If the enemy stops focusing me that is when I will come in swinging around and knocking them all out of position. When im really on a roll (no pun intended), i love to spam the "frustration detected" voice line.
I dont even know how ranks works yet and i didnt even paly 20 games in ranks but people still tell everyone to report me an they talk sometimes about "diff" all the time, no wonder overwatch is dying when even on the lowest ranks people are toxic af, really glad to find content at all thx
Ball is the hardest tank because he has to overcome not only the enemy team's opposition, but also his own team. He's genuinely a fun hero to play and I enjoy the games I play him despite his overwhelming hate
You touched on the secret to countering sombra...you have to stay close to health packs and aggresively start headshot firing back the second younger hacked..You'll win every fight and she'll switch.(only works when isolated) Also you grapple wrong for swinging under bridges..you have to grapple as high and as far behind the bridge as possible to poop and scoop yhoguh it...if that make sense
I love your videos so much man I actually learn something from them and watching you play characters I've never really played much either makes me feel like I can.
Recently got back into the game and had to go ball for the good old times. Still fun as hell to just swing, Bowl, and fling myself across the whole map.
People at the lower ranks really struggle to comprehend how you are supposed to play with wrecking ball as your tank. The momentum of the game is a little different. Once you get over that hurdle, imo ball is one of the tanks that can be the most (or least) fun to play with.
For me...i always found that getting the supports out los seems to be overall better than just killing them. Annoying the hell out supports, grtting their cooldowns out, pushing then far back out los... As opposed to killing them and everyone quickly swapping to counter what they think is the biggest threat. It also undermines the enemy's team play as they all stsrt flaming each other (when do they not)
Well, it looks like I can see that wrecking ball and widow maker users have something in common 😭 I’ve been trying to master widow for a while. And the first thing I get told when I queue into a game is that I’m dogshit and I should die. It’s crazy how a video game warps people’s view on how the people behind these characters are human too. It’s hard, really fucking hard. The entire server was on my ass once and it can get overwhelming. If you suck at them, you’re called names. If you’re godly at them, you’re called names. It’s like a double edged sword and there’s no way to avoid it.
There is some phases to the ball player mentality, phase 1 is confusion, phase 2 is sadness, phase 3 is being a psychopath 1x9 every match and any toxic behaviour in chat is a Win, thats my goal everyday.
5:43 yes this is a usual issue when playing ball. Players cant adapt to his playstyle so they automatically assume its your fault.( once i was even impolitely asked to switch to rein when they had junk)
That was fun, thank you for sharing your experience. No matter how good or confident I am, getting reported for imaginary poor performance is enough to send me into a rage spiral out of any kind of competitive play. So, watching you power through, acknowledging it, but still persevering is aspirational. I am still sorry you had to deal with it.

Not only do you play better if your team works with you, but you have a good time playing, even if you lose
All the hate for playing ball is exactly what it's like to be a sym player before seagull made people realize she's actually good
I love how you bleeped the word shit but not fuck. Lol.
Lol watching the teammates flaming the whole time during the video
OMG I PLAYED WITH YOU AS ANA IN ONE OF THE GAMES THATS CRAZY, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! I’ve learned so much!
That last gameplay was such a treat, I bet that felt sooooo good for you and that mercy.
I love you for doing this. Also credit to Wolfbrim the mercy player!
You know the fun thing about ball... is that you make your team mad and even the enemy team mad at you lol.
I remember that chazm said that in one of his videos.
I love ball, i kinda miss the grapling hook without the cooldowns when grappled
1:30 When i see a Doomfist pocketed by a Mercy
There needs to be something In the game explaining that some heroes fundamentally function differently than others, even if they're in the same roles. Same goes for support players who get flamed for not being heal bots.
As a hard stuck diamond ball main, I can confirm that I receive the craziest, wackiest, most violent, and most depressing chat messages after every loss.
14:14 one might say you were unstoppa-ball
i shed a tear at the end. just a misunderstood hampter
Man as a ball main I felt this video so much, great job!
When I'm sick of sweating as a support main, Hammond reminds me to "Be the Ball" and keep rollin'
🎱❤🐹
The reason I hate ball on my team is because they’re always flanking and you leave your team vulnerable to attack. You’re literally not tanking any damage. On top that, if I’m defending a ball, after awhile you just ignore them until you can get a good shot. If you don’t know how to play it well it’s not beneficial to the team at all.
I love ball, ball is funny, ball is life
Now learn the 122 techs Ball mains have to go through as a rite of passage
I've only had a game or two so far in season 3 with ball haters on the same team.
yeatle is such an great teacher and streamer
As a ball main, it makes me proud to see you experience what it’s like being one of us. Enjoy the rolling!
These episodes are really well edited, entertaining. You do a great job of weaving in the narratives man
When I dedided to become ball OT I simply muted chat for several days straight. This was the best advice what I get from Chasm.
same and the second i muted chat i played much better
ball is my favorite tank and one one i’m best with but i hate when i’m always the first person people decided to flame but this vid motivates me to try and rank up as ball
Best Ridge wallet commercial producer, Best up and coming ball player, best awesome vibe spreader.
Love your videos. This one made my day.
Ball is his own subway surfer game with guns attached ... if you master the mobility and line of site no one can touch you and if you get the charge runs right u can flank so damn quick! Even sombra will cry
Amazing video. We need more of these
Great example of why I don't do competite.
2:08 notice how it's the most replayed...
Playing ball for about three days i found out a lot of these lessons, its nice to see i was on the right track
YES I love this video. SVB and Yeatle my two favorite OW content creators and sticking it to toxic supports. So satisfying.
As someone who mains Tanks, this is proof that we only need 1 Support to believe in us to make the big plays.
You could spend 10 hours easily just learning the parkour course.
Tips for Ball players
*DON’T RELY ON SUPPORTS.*
Ball is really fast so you can easily get health packs and get back to fights fast plus it’ll mean 1 less person for them to heal. But they should heal you when you’re close to them and just needs a lil healing.
So next time you lose a game don’t blame your supports blame yourself (or the dps if they’re doing bad)
the flaming..... welcome to the life of a ball. Getting flamed is just part of the process. you have to play at an extremely clean level for teammates to even tolerate your existence.
loving these vidoes, really helping me understand the optimal way to play "niche" heroes. now i know why ball isnt with team.
When im really on a roll (no pun intended), i love to spam the "frustration detected" voice line.
man really didn't give credit to special
The best ball-specific setting is to turn off text chat
especially voice. PLEEEEAAAASE change ball PLEEEEEAAAAASE (whiny teen voice)
As someone going through the same process right now, I share your pain. Love this style of video, you made me smile all the way
I dont even know how ranks works yet and i didnt even paly 20 games in ranks but people still tell everyone to report me an they talk sometimes about "diff" all the time, no wonder overwatch is dying when even on the lowest ranks people are toxic af, really glad to find content at all thx
Ball is the hardest tank because he has to overcome not only the enemy team's opposition, but also his own team.
He's genuinely a fun hero to play and I enjoy the games I play him despite his overwhelming hate
You touched on the secret to countering sombra...you have to stay close to health packs and aggresively start headshot firing back the second younger hacked..You'll win every fight and she'll switch.(only works when isolated)
Also you grapple wrong for swinging under bridges..you have to grapple as high and as far behind the bridge as possible to poop and scoop yhoguh it...if that make sense
I love your videos so much man I actually learn something from them and watching you play characters I've never really played much either makes me feel like I can.
Recently got back into the game and had to go ball for the good old times. Still fun as hell to just swing, Bowl, and fling myself across the whole map.
There's GM balls, and then there are chazm and yeettle
It's somehow so satisfying to watch the Zen trainer get trolled by his teammates. Now you see the game the rest of us are playing ;)
This video made me think and now ima be a ball tank main
When you let the spirit of ball possess you, you know you’re good.
Then 10 hour hero videos has been an interesting evolution to overwatch content
Very interesting! Should do more videos like this!
Loved this, I wanna go dig through your stream for the yeatle coaching tips now, haha!
What a great channel and delivery. Much respect and love
Absolutely crushing it on ball when you aren’t a ball main really is such a rush.
