One of the best covers I’ve ever heard
Juste magnifique, je ne me lasse jamais d'entendre cette superbe reprise. Merci !
Best cover musically.
Shivers, goosebumps, and tears.
A french man told about war by his grandmother quite a While ago now.
Cheers.
+ love the way she looks at him.
Finally, a good and different voice for a cover of this beautiful song, thanks!
These people have earned my respect 100 times over by singing the late and great Leonard Cohen's work.
These guys sound great. Never heard them before. THANKS AMOEBA!
That might be my favorite Cohen cover.
Cohen did not write it
a cover of a cover?
This version is amazing.
Hai una voce bellissima Jesse grazie stupenda interpretazione vi amo Other lives
Rip leonard cohen your artistic view of this world will live on for many moons to fall
this song really fits other lives. I love how Jesse and Jenny's voices sound together.
Other lives is my favourite band, I have seen them in march and I have a shirt signed by Jesse, Jenny and Colby. I am in love with every sound they make.
Brilliant cover.....
J'adore cette reprise,, magnifique et ce texte puissant,,,bien que la partie française soit absente
Best ever cover of Cohen's Partisan, powerfull and sensitive at the same time.
Whaat a Leonard Cohen cover?? just fell more in love with you Other Lives. I was so blown away tonight. Thank you for that beautiful performance. Each band member is the type of musician who can pick up any instrument and instantly create magic and beauty. P.S. the Stag horn tambourine was awesome...
Amazing cover. Great band. Saw them live this week in London - very very very good!!!
the urgency in their voice... it's brilliant
It’s not that urgent come on now
This is so good
Superb version of this great song!
Siete bravissimi, i partigiani ascolteranno questo brano e vi ringrazieranno
Très belle interprétation , MERCI INFINIMENT
Great cover, very nice vocals, energy and arrangements.
Beautifully performed cover, very hard to cover Leonard Cohen and this was spot on!
Many people are simply wonderful
Powerful song!!!
❤Superb.
great cover of a song Leonard Cohen popularized in the late sixties but actually written in 1943 by Anna Marly and Emmanuel d'Astier de la Vigerie. Originally written in French, this version--the one LC recorded was adapted in English by Hy Zaret. Joan Baez did a cover to, changing the line "I took my gun and vanished" to "into the hills I vanished." This version is really lovely...all the instruments and vocals blend so well.
Piece of art ❤️
i like the harmony of this interpretation
They're closing their 2012 tour with a cover of "The Partisan". Hallmark of a great band: take a formidable classic, unequaled for forty years and give it anOther life. In the original, the chorus, “Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing”, has a soft wistful feel: the fallen lay resting and there is nothing, safe the hope that “freedom soon will come”. In this version, the lyric is endowed with the energy of a rising storm that summons freedom here and now.
Brilliant cover, brilliant band.
Great comment. You said it all.
Great song!!!
Une voix magnifique 😍

The war within
its a leonard cohen cover of 'the partisan' . this is a good version but the original is amazing. cheers
🙏
noir desir & leonard cohen version is great...and this one is also great...very good cover :)
super
This song gets me everytime 🙏 it’s so sad tho because the freedom never did come, the rulers of this world still have us right where they want us 💩 and we give them all the control with these goddam!! Wretched cell phones
@jeremyshambles umm, yea, can't argue that, it's Leonard Cohen. But this is a worthy cover no doubt.
Great my love!! :v
Would you like to upload this song some where please?
Guy has a great voice. But the 16 Horsepower version will always be my favorite.
ouais.. elle est où la partie en français ?
Nice try, but nobody can equal leonard's version. And why did they translate the french part??
Yugoslav Tito's partisans were with the biggest balls you have ever seen
🇵🇱
I’m here from The Hunt For The Wilderpeople.
And the french part ?
les allemands étaient chez moi,
ils me disent "résigne-toi"
mais je n ai pas peur
j ai repris mon arme.
un vieil homme dans un grenier,
pour la nuit nous a caché
les allemands l'ont eu
il est mort sans surprise :)
+It's a Fair Wind
Don't ever fuck french
Leonard Cohen is not dead and hence is not "the late" Leonard Cohen.
barnsushi unfortunately he is now
I wanna cry
J'ai la France entière.
where can i find their tabs for this song?
super super super interpetrazione...
Looks like he could be Robin Pecknold's older brother.
They should have phoned in the French part like Selena did with espanol
More powerful than the original.
Decent cover, performed with all due respect to the original. Still, Cohen's version is far superior. In fact, none else will ever sing this song better than Leonard.

Not bad but the original is far superior (IMHO), even after all these years. This version is just to overwrought and messy. Although some of Cohens songs have been improved through covers ( Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah comes to mind ) this isn't one of them. I generally like this bands work but if they were genuinely interested in honouring Cohens vision of the song, at least go to the trouble and make the effort to learn the French lyrics ( considering what the song is about). But hey, I guess that's what separates a great artist from an average one.
This is a great song but Leonard Cohen did not write this song.
The song was written in 1943 in London by Emmanuel d'Astier de la Vigerie and the music by Anna Marly.

You are absolutely right. Have been working on the guitar part and did a little research so I stand humbly corrected. That said, Cohens vision for the cover bares little resemblance to the original recording by Anna Marly (thank god he chose to drop the whistling!) and really stands as probably the best 'cover' of this song so far imho. I still think this is a messy, overwrought cover by a band that has produced some great, innovative music. However, seeing as Mr Cohen chose to drop most of the French from his version (a nice dramatic contrast) I guess I'll have to cut them some slack on that front.
Yes True Cohen's version is the best sounding and RIP to the great man, but it is good to see other bands carry on the memory/tradition. I also like the Joan Baez version, almost as much as Cohen's.
Mark M
Yup I agree with you on that for sure. The Joan Baez version I'm familiar with has a faster tempo and she sings the French lyrics beautifully. I should also say almost all the covers I've listened to are better than my efforts! Interesting to note that where as the great man really transformed the original into what most of us think of as the definitive version, almost all subsequent artists seem to have created a cover from Cohens version. A testament to what made him so great I think. I did find another version with Jesse Tabish singing this solo on acoustic. Sounded fine I must say. Now if I could only get my fingers to play those damn triplets!
Check out Bill Callahan's version of So Long Marianne. Not bad.
john davies you are blind and hardened to not see the beuty in all things created . they put thier heart into it. took the effort and the time to make it happen. to create the vibration to perform it. the least you could do is give posative energy to something so sad instead of giving an opinion that underates others efforts and creative output.
