- Nick Cave in Leonard Cohen's song Suzanne
Suzanne takes you down to her place newer the river
You can hear the boats go by
You can spend the night beside her
And you know that shes half crazy
But thats why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges
That come all the way from china
And just when you mean to tell her
That you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wavelength
And she lets the river answer
That youve always been her lover
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For youve touched her perfect body with your mind.
And jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said all men will be sailors then
Until the sea shall free them
But he himself was broken
Long before the sky would open
Forsaken, almost human
He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him
And you want to travel blind
And you think maybe youll trust him
For hes touched your perfect body with his mind.
Now suzanne takes you hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From salvation army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever
While suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her
And you want to travel blind
And you know that she will trust you
For shes touched your perfect body with her mind. - Видеоклипы
Im 76 why am I crying?
Balsamo per l'anima in un'epoca in cui l'anima non ha nessun valore e ciò che conta è l'efficienza
I simply adore this version of ''Suzanne''. Nick Cave's voice is so beautiful and full of devotion to each song he performs.
And this song is pure poetry, if you ask me, because each word demands to be felt more than heard or just read, and you need an artist to interpret, to understand and therefore to bring it to the audience in a right way.
❤❤❤❤
So beautifull. Only now did I hear this by Nick Cave. Very appropriate. ❤❤
The undeniable genius of Cohen and Cave.
Ein Musiker den man immer vergisst. Aber ein ganz, ganz Grosser!!! ❤️❤️🇨🇭
Ye gods,,,,I love this. It was part of my young life, sung by Leonard Cohen. But I adore Nick and will see him on September 19 in Asheville, NC!!!!
Nick has this rare ability to form his voice into different styles. I love his music and his voice.
Nicholas. Have, at least, some respect.
Υπέροχο
Viva la follia! Se ispira canzoni così belle ...
The way he lags just slightly behind the girls is ecstatically beautiful
I agree
@@yvesplamondon4539I love that so much ❤
It's brilliant
Leonard is still 'alive'. Thanks Nick Cave.
Nick sings this song like he's in prayer in the church of Leonard Cohen.
Welcome to you as well
Man! 😳😱 This is the PERFECT comment! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 PERFECT
I agree completely
Well, i allways, always, no, i have any thing to write...
He's simply amazing!
one great poet ,showing respect to an even greater one
Oh God! This song makes me want to lay down and die happy. I love Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave!
I'm stunned by some of the comments here. I LOVE Cohen's version of Suzanne. I remember the first time I heard Cohen, and I fell in love with this song in particular. Singing this Nick isn't trying to compete with Cohen, and I would be almost 100% sure he didn't forget the words, he simply sang it his way, which I happen to think made it very beautiful. It was done as a tribute to a singer Nick has obviously admired for a long time. So why bitch and compare? Just enjoy.
Es sind beide Versionen einfach toll.
The treatment of the background vocals is unexpected and haunting - as though the echo anticipates the lead voice, or as though he’s being accompanied by the spirits of the water.
The trick to the art of covering other people’s songs is to make them your own while honoring the vision of the original artist. Nick does that here beautifully.
ahhhh perfection ❤❤
Your child is with our beautiful mother. I promise. And love you nick.
Love this, I cry
What a combination! Nick Cave and the fabulous original Cohen singers keep Leonards song alive. Thanks.
Ich höre dieses Lied seit 50 JAHREN !!!!!
Nick has always been under the spell of Leonard . Great choice of a mentor and lovely homage to Cohen s legacy
Amo ese retardo
Susanne love you
True artistry is making the incredibly complex and subtly nuanced look simple and unadorned. Beautiful, Nick, just beautiful.
Pure poetry and I say it with watery eyes
Nick does a great job singing backup to Julie and Perla.
That technique is incredibly difficult to do without tripping all over yourself! Excellent!
Few in the world could pull this off. Such a responsibility to do this masterpiece justice. Well done.
Thank you ❤
So wonderful this comment
And unlike any I've heard
Truth yes, the responsibility
Oh Nick! :( I love this
HE HAS THE SPIRIT OF COHEN, I MEAN HE DESSERVES TO SING THIS SONG,
Well said
Definitely
Well shouted
McCulloch has it not Cave
I feel he's singing directly to me. What a gift he has. I love you Nicholas.
Yes! What an awesome, truly awesome artist ❤️💯🎵
Sie singen dieses Lied wunder wunderschön❤
I AGREE HE HAS A SPIRIT OF COHEN!!!
I can listen to him all day/every day.
When I seen this suggestion come up, I 1000% had to click.
I knew Nick would do something special with this song.
When at the start I heard him coming in so late, I wondered if it was a technical issue - no it is Nick's mastery.
Powerful stuff Nick!
First time I have heard this done by Nick. Him and Leonard might have made a wonderful duet.
god,i love you,nick cave.you are a brilliant singer and a beautiful man
Nick Cave: amazing, talented, GORGEOUS!
The PERFECT version.
'Absolutely stunning rendition; beautiful!'
A brother sends love , years pass and always will, time can mend but sometimes never does , songs will always be sung , but they never truly save , some songs are remembered and not forgotten, always for a reason, cause the truth remains beautiful, broken but still amazing. Life and love for many years, we make ourselves angels.
When I was 16 in a sea of 80s plastic pop, this song opened a thousand doors to new worlds, There under the sun, a river, high tea, a pritty face. When I'm sad I can go back. Thanks Lennod
Oh god the chorists are these of Leonard Cohen!!
We have to press the like button so many times! His soul!
nick you are the best
And the singing girls are in trance just like maestro himself..!
Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful!
And with Julie Christensen and Perla Batalla, no less - Leonard’s long time backing singers. Just awesome.
Made even more lovely by the fact that Nick Cave's wife's name is Susie.
I KNOW! I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!
I can never get enough of this. Best version, I love both Nick and Cohen. This is a match made in heaven. I'd take this over Avalanche any day.
From Canada to Australia..from 21 /9 to 22/9...Greatest!
One of the best lines in all music: For he's touched your perfect body with his mind
Yes...
Always felt that Nick Cave was the perfect interpreter for Leonard Cohen songs, this songs sort of proves me right
wonderful
Woooooooooowww!!
Here are a great one singing another greater one!!
A real jewel, indeed
You bloody well nailed it nick
Beautiful and Wonderful. Nick Cave has done Justice to Leonard Cohen. x
Beautiful version of a beautiful song. Love Nick Cave's voice. So rich and full of emotion.
Too bad it's drowned out by the back-up singers. At least, that's all I'm hearing on my pc. This by Cohen is my favorite song of all time.....but?? Nick just doesn't come through the background well enough
yes
pure poetry. well done Leonard, fine work Nick!!!!
Those are two of the best backup singers around.
incredibelmente bello!!! bello come bello tutto quello che e' sincero. nick cave come sempre e' migliore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! e' grande. sia la canzione che Nick
Jesus, I can listen to this song all life....
Great rendition from a poet to another
Wow Nick cave is so talented
Mr. Cave really adores Cohen. A really hardore listener. Love 'em both. I'm feeling close to their poetic soul.
And I'm high btw..
Perfekt.❤
He tends to sing a beat behind the back up singers in a lot ot his songs and it appears to be a stylistic thing. The women singers are Julie Christensen and Perla Battalia, aqccording to the dvd I'm Your Man, a tribute to Leonard Cohen.
(continued) I liked what he liked, followed him like a sheep. Leonard Cohen was the first one I discovered by myself. He is the symbol of my musical independence. I remember these other guys that came to my friend's house that thought Songs of Love and Hate was too depressing. I've realized that this 'depression' theory was ridiculous. The sadness of Cohen was inspirer, it gave me a lot of energy. I always remember all this when someone says that my records are morbid or depressing."
What a beautiful statement :-)
Nick cave one of the best nearly as good as Leonard Cohen
That is just bloody Wonderful!
Class, soul, energy.
i can listen this over and over again
AMEN. God Bless Nick, Julie and Perla. You got me in tears... and I know Leonard can hear...Namaste. Peace be upon this "forsaken" world this holiday season- 2023...Love from a fan in Ontario (L. never knew it but he wrote that song for me...)
MANIFIQUE MANIFIQUE MANIFIQUE SUBLIME
...and now the torch passes from the Maestro to his disciple....keep his flame burning, Saint Nick!!
My favourite artist singing my favourite song from my other favourite artist. Can't get any better.
Fantastic. Nice Cave is an all time great ... a living legend.
Tears in my eyes. Just beautiful.
Эта песня наполняет теплом мою душу
I went to a Nick Cave show in São Paulo Brazil 1980 and someting... It was of of the best shows in my life.
one of the most important artist of our era.....his talent is extraordinary ..not to mention the variety of his work ..solo and with his band and other artist....since 1979 has given us ..songs , soundtracks, novels ,creating a world that makes you not to want to escape....
the BEST rendition EVER. nick cave is soooooo smoochy and luvly
It's a special favor from time to live in the age of musical poets, Nick C, Leonard C, Tom W, Bob D, and Jim M.
Heart touchers all of them
Just perfect, I love the delays
its great to see such a successful musician doing a gesture for another musician who influenced him
The lag of singers makes it seem like a dream or a memory. Long time ago 60's Suzanne.
so right Kathleen ..I
dream of Lenny, suzanne, i live for dreams; so lets lag this life. Thanks
and you want to travel with her
and you want to travel blind..
I love the lyrics
what a voice. I love that man
His voice is mesmerising...
I have followed Nick Cave for quite some time. I first knew of him when the Birthday Party made a splash. Leonard Cohen has always been an influential artist, though I must say that I am not a big fan of his musical recordings.
Nick Cave often has an amazingly charismatic presence. This is not one of them. I find this song very bland.
Saying 'Better than the original' would kill me from lightning beams from above, and I would deserve that, so I won't say it. But holy fuck this is so good. And what an AMAZING timing.
breathtaking Nick!! what a beautiful heart, mind and voice like liquid velvet.
Great,as many songs Nick sings.
God, what a talent!!♥️🙏
Thank you
really amazing version..Nick nails the emotion in this.
F'ing marvelous.
I love this song and now my two of my favorites Nick and Nina(Simone) sing it! Love love love!!!!
Nina Simone sung this?! I'm going hunting.
I love both this man and the man who wrote this song, and this video makes me so happy!
One of the greatest poet of our time covers one of the best songs of - to me - the greatest poet of all time.
This is just beautiful... and so sad right now.
Didn't expect he will pass away immediately after his brilliant last album!
"I intend to live forever"

theonemanclapping ,
Nick Cave on Leonard Cohen "I discovered Leonard Cohen with Songs of Love and Hate. I listened to this record for hours in a friend's house. I was very young and I believe this was the first record that really had an effect on me. In the past, I only listened to my brother's records. (continued below)
Nick Cave, you are a wonderful man! 💝
I love that he directly credits Cohen in his title. I think most artists have too much ego to do so.
