Geek & Gorgeous also has retinal products in 3 different strengths. And a much lower price. They work great for me and so budget friendly. Medik8 CRYSTAL RETINAL 20 is $120! G&G is only $30 for the same strength.
Thank you for this. I would like the morning routine as well. There may be one already, but I would like a body skin care routine if there is such a thing.
I like that you recently adventured yourself into brightening happy clothing colors. It grabs my attention right away for some reason. Like a color hypnotherapy. Sounds weird but makes sense in my head 😅😊
❤love that you speak about products in EVERY BUDGET LEVEL. Your channel is perfectly named❤ yes please on the anti redness products and updated morning routine 💥
I have a question. Here in the US, a product like tret is considered a drug and FDA has specific requirements for that drug. While retinaldehyde claims to be a step down, it’s still sold otc and as a cosmetic so can we be 100% sure the active ingredient is at the strengths claimed? I don’t think there’s that same assurance as with a script. I like some of Medik8’s products, but strictly based on known percentages, if Medik8 is making claims that are extremely similar to script tret, isn’t that technically illegal here and don’t they have to go through FDA approval process to make those claims? Just been thinking about this recently. For people on a budget, .025% tret is much cheaper than otc retinaldehyde. Even without insurance, script tret is only about 20 dollars as compared to hundreds of dollars for a product that technically we really don’t know if it has the stated percentages in similar concentrations which have marketing claims to be vitamin A-based.
The claimed strength should be accurate as long as the brand is trustworthy. Making claims they have similar effects to a drug is not illegal if they can prove that it does have similar benefits, but it can’t be exactly the same or it would be on prescription too. It can have the same benefits, just take longer or have smaller effects. There’s more affordable retinaldehydes out there, Medik8 is pretty premium.
Have you used snail mucin in your routine? I’ve been using it for a couple months now and it’s amazing, my acne scars/red blotches are almost gone 😮 I use it along with Olay’s super serum and the Neutrogena hydro boost gel. Love how my skin is looking now 😊
I love snail mucin! I haven't necessarily seen results (but I have pretty good skin) but I love that it naturally contains so many awesome ingredients like hyaluronic acid and copper peptides.
I discovered Medik8 some time ago, but it is quite pricey - however after some Mekik8 facials I gave it a try with Crystal retinal - it is so good! And i love The Inkey List moisturizer as for nighttime I go with one that doesn't have actives. It is so good, I prefer it over Cerave and Ceramedx
I look for products with squalane and hyaluronic acid for the deep layers, and ALA, (alpha linolenic acid / flaxseed oil), ceramides, and cholesterol for skin barrier. It is hard to find all 5 in 1 product. I wish someone would make a serum with the squalane and HA, with a follow up cream of the ALA, ceramides, and cholesterol cream to seal it in. I have only found Paula's choice for all 5. I wondered, since you are the Budget Dermatologist, if you have found any skin product wtih all 5? Otherwide, I have to mix products, and I prefer to simplifiy to 1 product.
@ me too - I had read about tremella mushrooms being extremely hydrating and did a search for products that contained it, and this super inexpensive toner has it as one of the top ingredients.
Thanks for this video, love your simple routines and product recs! Maybe I missed it in your prior videos, but why would you use retinal instead of tretinoin? Thank you!
I was interested in the C serum until I saw it had Grapefruit Peel Oil, Limonene, Citral, Linalool, and Geraniol - all skin sensitizing and react when exposed to the sun. Hard pass; these ingredients aren't good folks with sensitive/reactive skin (or 'normal') skin as they can actually cause discoloration and irritation. FYI, I looked up the Vit C serum, the website has it at 7% vitamin C, not 14%. Did they recently change the formula?
I've been hearing for a while (not sure if it was from you or another dermatologist on RUclips) that you should prioritize consistency of using your retinol over strength. Basically it's better to use a retinol that you can use consistently but is lower in strength than one that is strong but you can't use very often, in order to see results. Correct me if I'm wrong (you're the doctor - love your videos btw!) But every 3rd night doesn't seem often enough to achieve results.
2 questions 1. I wear CPAP and have noted facial area reddened for straps even though the straps have a cover. 2. What pillowcases are more gentle on one’s face. Thank you
Hello Dr. I always use my Vit. C at night, because it always makes me too oily during the day for makeup. Can an oily skin person use the CeraVe hydrating cleanser or would that be too much?
I'm curious why you're using a product with retinaldehyde and not just using prescription strength retinoic acid since you're a dermatologist. You've said in a previous video that retinoic acid was the best to use, since it didn't have to undergo any conversions. Most people can get a prescription for retinoic acid from their doctor. For example, I get a bit of adult acne so my doctor prescribed tretinoin, which as you know is retinoic acid.
BHT is an antioxidant and preservative that prevents bacteria from growing in a product so it's more shelf stable. That sounds like it's a good thing to me. :)
I've seen several derms and other skincare channels recommend Medik8 over the years. Speaking of vit c, have you tried their oxy-r serum? Another derm recommended that one as an option for folks who might not tolerate ascorbic acid.
Second video I've seen from this creator calling themselves a budget derm, but getting blasted with Medik8 $80+ serum ads four times in 1 video. Seems a bit off brand...?
Sadly although medik8 is a uk brand, it’s certainly not budget, I love the brand, but can’t afford it. And am in the uk. I’ve seen you use tretinoin on RUclips shorts, so where does that fit in ?
great question - for treating purely signs of aging, I do not think you need to go up to prescription strength to get solid benefits. Plus, with tretinoin there is a higher risk of side effects like dryness. For treating acne, I do recommend going to prescription strength though!
You say the face retinal is too strong for your eyes when you’re using 0,01% for your face and 0,03% for your eyes? Did you mean to write Retinal 1 or did you mean 10 in the description for the face product?
Medik8 brand is not in my budget. 😞 Maybe you might need to change the name of your channel ? I suppose everyone has a different definition of budget, when it comes to skincare. There are other skincare products that cost $100-$200 & up for a jar of moisturizer, so that may put Medik8 in the budget category. 🤷♀️
She might also be referring to it in a “cost per use” sense. She used the tiniest amount which makes me think it will last a really long time. The initial expense is a lot, but it might be worth it in the long run.
@@micaelawedge from watching her videos before, she really does seem to do videos on actually low budget options, but it seems like she uses more expensive products herself
There are lower cost Retinal products - Naturium has a 0.05 and a 0.10 retinal for about $30 for 1.7 ounces. I am lucky enough to have a prescription for Tretinoin, my insurance doesn’t cover it so I pay full cost. I get a 45 gram tube for about $50 every 3 to 4 months. I suspect it’s less expensive than Medi8. You might want to consider asking your doctor for a prescription.
I haven’t tried that one, but if you still have it, fill a cup with as hot water as you can get from the faucet but don’t boil it so the plastic doesn’t melt, and then put the closed tube in the hot water. It can sometimes melt the gritty texture if it’s not there originally and was caused by some ingredient crystallising in storage or shipping.
Vous avez raison , mais Dr V est plus spécialisée sur les peaux de couleur Donc elle se base plus sur ce qui est non irritable pour les peaux de couleur
Botox, if she knocks those wrinkles over her brow out with Botox, it could drop her brow. Or, tox product is wearing off. I have those wrinkles too, and I worked in dermatology. Just my opinion, I think she’s beautiful.

Medik8 CRYSTAL RETINAL 20 is $120! G&G is only $30 for the same strength.
Agree, The price point of Medi8 is nuts. In the U.K., the 20 is £80 on sale and G&G is £22, both 30ml. G&G all the way!
G&G are awesome!
I love g and g products!
Medik8 is not in my budget

Have you tried the LRP Cicaplast Gel B5 Skin Protectant? It contains 21% Glycerin, 5% panthenol, and madecassoside.
The Inkey List Bio-active has been a lifesaver for me for my acne/eczema - prone skin. Ty Dr.!

Speaking of green products for color correcting, the Dr. Jart brand has several products that derms have recommended as well.
How does this compare to the Avene product you have used in past?
Great video. Great products. Big fan of Medik8 & LRP Cicaplast! Wondering though, why don't you bring your products down onto your neck?
