S Flex vs R Flex Iron Shaft Comparison - Takomo 101T 7 Iron with KBS Tour Shafts

  • Is there really a huge difference between S and R Flex Iron shafts? The answer might surprise you.
    Golf shaft technology has improved a lot over the last few decades and that means that the R flex shaft of today is a lot different from the R flex shafts of the past. This test is a bit of an extreme example because 98 mph swing speeds with a 7 iron is above PGA tour average. But that should only amplify the differences between these two shaft options.

    I have always been recommended to use regular flex based on my swing speed. I bought a new set of Mizuno irons that came with stiff flex steel and I couldn't believe the distance and accuracy improvement I gained with the stiff flex shafts. I now use a S/R shaft as my swing is right between the two flexes.

    What a great video! So well done and proves that ego should never be a factor in selecting shafts. For most of us mortals, R flex is where we want to be. Maybe R flex in 4-7 iron, and S flex in 8-PW is best case scenario for those that can’t commit to R flex through the iron bag.

    Very good information. I went with s flex for the dispersion factor. Was shorter distance, but the shots were tighter. So I will take that trade off all day

    I would argue the dispersion is better on the R flex, as the orange circle was tighter than the white circle. You just needed to aim more right. I'd suspect a lot more golfers would benefit from the R flex & it's ability to close easier, but ego makes people think that S flex is the only option for the "better" golfer.

    Been playing my 101T with extra stiff C tapers. I'm still getting used to them but I do hit the shit out of them! I recommend getting fitted. Don't guess on shaft! I did an iron fitting and these were the exact shafts I was fitted for. It makes a big difference with spin & dispersion.

    I went from TT S300’s in my old clubs to the KBS Tour 120 S in my 201s. I’m loving the slightly lighter shafts and the feel of a little additional kick point at the bottom of the swing.

    The height and spin on the S is more my prefeered profile. Those R shots seemed to have much more runout. I want things to drop and stop with irons. My 101T's are still in process stage but can't wait to get them and compare to my current gamers. Great content and keep it up! And offer more stuff in LH!!! lol

    Hey Tim, a friend of mine is likely to purchase 101Ts. He lives in Everett, WA. He's been asking me how I like my 101Ts. I do like them a lot. I do think I need a lighter shaft though. 125 grams is too heavy for me. I'll keep playing with them for a while. Maybe I'll get a little stronger, Haha!

    Interesting comparison. Fascinating. Experience has taught me to be more focused on the shaft weight as compared to the flex. There is quiet a difference in the weight of some steel shafts. You need to be aware of that.

    Not surprising. I skipped to the results and knew the R was orange. I had the same experience testing shafts-slightly pulled to the left and slightly longer. I agree with those who say the dispersion with the R is actually tighter. But it is not straighter. The stiff to me gives more control.

    R flex will give more lag also which is probably helping you compress the ball better hence the lower peak height and launch

  • @No_Fear_33
    @No_Fear_33 4 месяца назад

    Dispersion is king! Take out the single worse hit from each.... so the tad left orange and the tad short white one and orange is your most perfect club for you for sure! Drawing and tight dispersion is Pro results. Orange wont balloon up so high either, which is way better control in normal outdoor conditions then white's flights.

    Obviously every golfer can play every shaft, obviously as well you won't go further with stiffer sticks (long drive guys often play their longest with regular or even lady/senior shafts, for the whipping effect). The benefit of the right stiffness is indeed controlling the club face and not losing every shot to the left (or the right for other players). I'm playing the tour in 130g x-stiff and I've got not issues playing some regular clubs... I just know that I'll over draw 90% of them whereas I don't have this issue (mostly) with stouter/heavier shafts.
    Add feel to that and that about all there is to "stiffness" and even "weight" in shafts!

    Do you think the R flex could have exaggerated your club path? I have an out-to-in swing and I fade more with an R flex. It seems like the S flex was giving you a club path of 2.8 to low 4s, but the R flex was more like 4 to 5.5 degrees in-to-out. Great video! I'll have to try this out next time I'm at the Trackman.

    • @joetrigger4538
      @joetrigger4538 4 месяца назад +1

      What they told me was you have to order a stock set (kbs tour shaft no extra length or lie adjustments.) Then you can hit the 7iron only with a 30 day money back guarantee. Didn't take more than 50 swings to fall in love with the feel of the 201s.
      Also can ask around to see if anyone in your area has them and will let you borrow them

    • @PongGod
      @PongGod 4 месяца назад

      @@joetrigger4538 Yeah, it would be easiest if I knew of someone nearby who had a set, but I haven't found anyone yet. As far as Takomo's suggestion, why wouldn't they just allow you to buy a returnable trial 7-iron rather than the whole set? That doesn't make much sense to me especially considering that I already know I will need length and lie adjustments.

    • @joetrigger4538
      @joetrigger4538 4 месяца назад +1

      @PongGod that would make more sense. Before I ordered I talked to my local pro shop and confirmed if I needed any adjustments that they could make those. With the 201s being forged they said there would be no issue changing anything I needed

    Interesting’ish but with that club head speed its not a real choice. Would have been better at 80 mph club head speed. What may be interesting is an autoflex style comparison on driver. Guidance seems to be autoflex is 2 flexes different from normal.so, if you are a stiff, try it against a sr flex.......
