Jon gets a random starting preset appearance. Later, Jon decides to scan through the presets to see if any jump out at him. Jon lands on the exact preset he was initially given, as if he's never seen it before.
Gold.
I'm convinced Jon had already decided on that preset when exploring in the character creator, and thats why it popped up immediately
As soon as I saw that, I thought Bethesda made this for Jon's redhead female preference.
@@computerzero7724 So THAT'S where the exclusive Bethesda women went!
Perception -1
Idk, it kind of felt like a weird editing mistake
Already waiting on the Starfield YOLO run lmao
Truly
Starfield - Return of Evil Jon
Day 1 of asking for Starfield YOLO =P
I'm holding out for Starfield: No Guns
@@DarksideGmss0513 Yes, that is literally what I just said
This is a perfect example of why I like Jon’s play throughs. Most RUclipsrs are “Here, watch me play the game while I provide tepid observations along the way”. With Jon it feels like we get to experience his joy and wonder as he discovers the game.
Open-world, space RPG
Jon: I'll have elderly parents and a mortgage, please
Substitute "Mortgage" for "Student Loan Debt" and it's my life in space
And I did actually pick those traits for myself. Can't tell you why.
I like how the game implies that having loving parents and a home with a mortgage you can afford is basically science fiction nowadays 😂
Having parents that only need 2% of your income to live comfortably 😅
It is when you're the main character
Right? What an alien concept.
What's more concerning is that having a paid home seems to have entirely left the realm of reality.
Only having to pay for food, water, electricity and internet makes me wonder if I am close to getting into some Forbes' richest men list or something. xD
Jon deciding to pretend his ship is a stationary gun turret that can rotate 360 degrees on both axis and spinning around erratically on the spot instead of... Flying after and staying behind the attacking pirate ships so they couldn't shoot back was extremely amusing.
Honestly that's kinda what the combat feel like, at least in the starter ship. Hard to depict a sense of movement in space.
@@sp0ckz0mbi3 ....you can in fact depict a sense of movement in space. plenty of games do it. It's probably hard but it is expected
I think in the confusion of being attacked suddenly he forgot to put energy into the engines so it just stayed on 1 energy. He was going with like 20 speed :D
@@sp0ckz0mbi3Chorus did it extremely well. The space flight/combat is insanely satisfying, the controls are so fluid and it feels so fast
TBF space combat can be pretty disorienting and it can be difficult to remember to keep moving at first.
Meanwhile I'm still trying to figure out how I can actually upgrade my cargo hold...
John not noticing the control input prompts during the spaceship battle is classic John
I like how Jon's character to me basically looks like Femshep. Shepard took a very different career path in this galaxy it would seem. More along the lines of Mordin.
I had the exact same thought. "Hey that looks like Shep"
A Femshep with Mordin interests, pretty much the best combo to have really. I imagine her also speak like mordin while doing a 180-no-scop-kill.
Shepard: "The military? Maybe if I was a stupid grunt.".
I think it’s one of the defaults in the creator too which is nice to think that Bethesda gave a nod to Mass Effect.
Just watched the intro, and I have to say - the enthusiasm and excitement in your voice is taking me to my happy place. My favourite youtuber by far.
Yeah, but he was super-enthused about Fallout 76...
@@eshafto I actually enjoyed his 76 playthrough - he took a janky, broken game and made it entertaining and watchable 🤷🏻♂️
@@eshafto76 is a fun game now
Super excited for this one! I‘m looking forward to whatever shenanigans await us :)
Completionist playthrough of Starfield when???
Cant wait for the complete series
Pete! pete! pete! pete! pete! Yaaaaay
Just want to tell you that with all the stress you've been going under with *getting* this damned thing, I want you to know that you're the only person I intend to watch. So you're not losing my attention due to anyone else being able to upload sooner.
Same thing here if it wasn't Jon it'd be nothing
Argh, I want to watch this so much but I'm trying to keep myself as spoiler free as possible! Enjoy it, Jon!
All this game is, is Fallout 4 reskinned. There is literally nothing in the game that you have not already seen and heard.
@@TAGSlaysSo we are lying today? Every comment you've made on this channel is utterly miserable
Me too. I'm not watching past the first episode until I've played the game. Did the same thing with FO4.
@@TAGSlays That's a really disingenuous "argument" that you've probably formed based on watching 30 seconds of gameplay. The game plays similarly to FO4 as it's the next game using the creation engine and they're obviously able to reuse some assets and animations, but otherwise it's almost entirely different. The dogfights in Starfield are much better than FO4, right?
@@TAGSlays Ah well, if that's the case I'll find out myself without watching this! I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way!
You are the only one who had the patience to survey the starting location, and wait for Vasco to finish speaking... Absolutely love your content and coverage of the game
This needs to be a series.
Also since i don't have an Xbox or Pc powerful enough to play this I'm going to live vicariously through you.
hey don't steal my plans! i've literally been excited for starfield solely at the opportunity to watch jon play a new bethesda game
It’s already been confirmed by Jon on the livestream that this will be a series so don’t worry.
I'm in the same boat. I was torn about watching a playthrough before getting it, but it's going to be quite a while before I'll be able to play it so - flip it!
There will be lots of content for me to watch after I finished Starfield myself.
I am excited to see how the game plays. I also love that your character has a mortgage and loving parents it's very "down to earth" .
The Cutter is basically my favourite weapon for a close quarters fight. If you hold secondary fire (aim) you charge it up so it drains ammo/charge faster but mine faster/do more damage
Yeah that thing's a beast.
After playing I’m very glad that starfield was delayed and given time, I truly believe that it is the best game that Bethesda has ever made.
I finally started this series after sinking a lot of time into my own playthrough, and the amount of peak Jon character building has me incredibly excited!
I love your enthusiasm on the end, when you said that there is a lot on the planet :D Oh, boy how could you possibly know :D
I love how eager you are to get immersed!
The Starfield hype and content creation cycle is guaranteed to happen for at least the next two years. I cannot wait for the hilarious juxtaposition of the inevitable Jon discovering Morrowind for the first time next to the most modem fleshed out detailed intricate Starfield that Jon is still discovering things in.
"Ah, there you go, the watch fits you perfectly"
My dude, it's got an adjustable strap, if my space pipboy wasn't going to fit...
That thumbnail looks sooooo cool! Claire shouldve become a graphic designer
I mean she kinda is, if you think about it.
Hyped for a full playthrough and the eventual Evil Jon kill everything run!
Had to pause the video at 15:38 bc I LOVE how Jon created an entire back story (about poor career choices and crippling debt) and character identity (by adding a tattoo and dirt). Brilliant. I SAY BRILLIANT.
Very happy that this is a series. Not that I had any doubt it would be one.
Same curious what route he will take as compared to me. Just finished watching this today.
And without even trying, Jon somehow kinda managed to port Alloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn into Starfield. She started fighting metal dinos and now she's traveling the vastness of space. Fantastic!
I'm going to watch this series after I get into the game when it actually comes out 😂
I’ve got it and it’s so fun:)
This series is going to have a hell of a tail, hahaha!
@@kj7975Same here just got to Mars for the first time still pretty early on, but game is super interesting. I love uncovering the lore
I'm 11 hours in and for some reason I was scared to watch this. Seriously though, this game is incredible, absolute A+ for Bethesda so far. I am so glad I was aboard the hype train for this because it was SO worth it, and the Bethesda Jank is perfectly balanced to me.
I can't wait to see how this playthrough goes, though I may drop off for spoiler purposes.
Oh, and as an aside, skill points exist, but you have to unlock the perk (edit: with the challenge) to buy it with a skill point by doing it. It's a wonderful blend of Fallout 4 and Skyrim systems for leveling up.
I have an entire set of original Roach motels to sell you. Since you like buggy AF stuff so much.
@@TAGSlays Sorry, in now over 12 hours of gameplay I've had precisely 0 meaningful bugs, this negativity is unnecessary and unwanted
Edit: Ah, just a troll, got it. Saw other comments
@@TAGSlaysyou sound like a miserable person
@@lordmissingno I've had one crash, one world that was not aligned properly with it's bits and pieces (procedural generation?), and one time Vasco got stuck on a tree branch. Not completely free, but not too bad.
@@AusSP Oh yeah I won't say bug free, I've seen a couple tiny things like NPCs walking weird(one fell out of the world) and a couple of physics item freak outs. So far nothing has broken my game though, and I haven't had any crashes
One thing I am gonna say, the Dream Home trait about Mortgage is a bit misleading, what it really does is gives you a house where when you want to enter it, you need to pay 500 credit the week you use it, you don't need to pay it every week. The mortgage payment of 125k is only to get rid of that cost.
I like the ]FILE NOT FOUND] option in Backgrounds, for the kind of people who want to live off the grid.
The series I've been waiting for!
Can't wait to see how many times Jon says McJibbles
I've been playing Starfield, and although it's early on, I'm absolutely loving the feel of the game.
OMG I'm so happy Jon picked the same background and most the traits that I did like...that genuinely makes me so, so happy.
Looking forward to this adventure with you Jon, Claire and Ted.
"I've come to this tiny moon in the middle of nowhere and apparently just... so much cocking on it"
*A curated for the main story tiny moon which is in the game's opening hours so effort has been put in to give a good first impression.
You say that, but then Fallout 4's opening areas are the worst areas of the game. Same with Skyrim.
I loved the skyrim opening. You are up there on a mountain with the whole world to explore below you, see some interesting ruins in the distance, the world is yours to explore.
Just go on your way and don´t get eaten by the wolves.
Not morrowind, but the graphics back then kind of made up for it.
I may be wrong here, but at 47:46 is that perk screen not indicating that Jon STARTED at rank 1 of Surveying and now that he's completed the challenge, he can rank up by pressing A?
Ah, well, I'm sure that you figure it out if that's the case. It's looking like a gold series- hope you enjoy playing it as much as we do watching it!
That is in fact correct, you need to complete the challenge before you are allowed to allocate another perk point to the skill.
So it's less 'you get better by using a skill' and more 'you can't become better at a skill you don't use'
Yes, you need to spend a skill point for next rank. And leveling in this game is not quick and I haven't found a respec, so be careful!
@@piffpuffpeng Good news is there's apparently no level cap, so if you do make a mistake, correcting it just takes time
And here we flippin' go!
And immediately we're off to an awesome start in how Troy gets completely memed with absolute plunder aboard the miningbase. Classic!
I knew there was a reason Jon is my favourite youtuber. My Starfield character is exactly the same lol: Xenobiologist, Dream Home, Kid Stuff. Just a career woman trying to pay off her debts and restart her life.
Well done, mate.
Jon's character creation reasoning is exactly why MATN is the GOAT. I love it.
20 min in and there is a homophone spelling error. The pliers are vise grips, not vice grips. Being gripped by vices is a human characteristic. 😂
This ride will be legendary
I'm glad i've gotten far enough that I feel safe enough to watch this without worry of spoilers.
Excited to experience a new Bethesda game for the first time alongside you. I enjoyed the Oblivion LP and I hope this lives up to that.
The best thing about Starfield is that The Elder Scrolls VI is the next major Bethesda project!
I really want a game where, soon after you sign on, the company starts leaving notices about how money and items are going missing. :P
I can't wait to watch this series... In about a week, once I've had the chance to try the game myself.
Only 62 episodes in this entire series I'd say you can give it at least another 250. There's a hell of a lot that you haven't discovered yet now that they have actually done something right with this game.... There's a lot more we want to see that we would love to see you do
Like what give another example
Awesome! I am so glad you’re doing a blind run of this. I really value your insights and skill.
Can't wait to see more. I'm knees deep into the game myself right now and it's so much fun!
I can't wait for a hardcore survival mode for this game. I started frantically picking up all the food i could find, assuming it would give me the choice to turn survival on after being given the Frontier.
Great thing about these Bethesda games is that modders are probably already on the job.
Totally agree, fallout 4 on survival feels like a completely different game. I hope we will see a similar mode as soon as possible
I discovered Jon with his new Vegas runs and I used to watch him endlessly. It’s been almost 3 years since I’ve watched, but I’m glad I made it back, im definitely super excited for what Starfield has in store!
I cannot watch this yet, as i am playing blind through myself, so i watched your reaction to the intro and character creattion, and i'll be back to watch the rest in about a year when ive finished starfield myself. ☺
I'm so happy this isn't a live stream
Two words: MOAR, JON! (Really, thanks for sharing! Looking for more!)
I love the character creator this time around, there's options and gamuts they''ve always avoided here that I'm so glad to see introduced for the first time. Body types, skin tones and textures, that we've never got to play with before. I'm so happy to get to play the avatar I envisioned blazing a trail with, it's been incredibly gratifying insofar.
Looking forward to the series as ALWAYS, playing alongside obviously and trying to keep a step a ahead because I'm terminally spoiler averse, but fair warning Jon this game has just about a billion and three things going on for you to get stuck into. I remember Bethesda's early efforts with "emergent" quests, and how largely we've written them off, but between the authored quests and the generated work, I think they've come galaxies from where we last saw them. Good things ahead!
If this game were entirely about mining in space, I'd buy it right away.
Criminal that Jon didn’t get the super advanced code but he’s the ONLY one I want to watch play this!
For all, into the Starfield
Awesome introdyction, really looking forward to your series on this!
You know, after seeing that trilobite, I find myself hoping this game lets you keep pets
Lin Drummer: captain now camina later! Belters! Im getting The Expanse vibes!
My computer blew up the day this came out. I now have no way to play games now. I appreciate jon playing the games that I'm most interested in or expamding my horizons. Thank you Jon!!!!!
Holy cow your voice got deeper. I've been watching your Fallout New Vegas/ F3 YOLO run for years. I'm so happy to see this video.🎉 Star Jon
I too picked up the tape thinking it would be useful lol
The Jon way of solving problems:
- try to analyze and understand everything
- completely fail at it
- get attacked
- panic and mash buttons until everything is over
- in case you fail you repeat the previous steps by the rule "if plan A doesn't work try plan B,that being try plan A until it works"
That sure does scream Jon right there ngl XD
Let's play a game
"Every time Jon critiques starfield take a shot" its a great drinking game because you don't even need alcohol
Shocking, a man playing a game for the first time from a developer he loves is more focused on having fun then writing a review lol.
Maybe you missed the part where this is a gameplay series and not a review of starfield? There’s plenty of those if that’s what you wanna watch.
I wonder if the magic floating rocks were just a classic Bethesda bug that they decided to weave into the story.
Maybe, but they move when you push them and the artifacts seem to be centered around gravity weirdness anyway in all the promotional material. I think it was a deliberate choice
There's a line from one of the dusties before you get to that spot that there's a gravity anomaly ahead. It would seem to be intended, especially considering what happens a bit later with the piece you grab.
Gosh, we've come a long way in 100 years
Looking forward to this series! Will definitely loop back to it once I have some playtime myself to avoid spoilers, but here's the algorithm-boosting comment that is well deserved!
“The robot knew how to say my name!” You mean the name from a show that was great upto its last couple seasons.
I am so pleased I get to experience this with you
YES so excited for this series!
They really should have gave Jon a review copy weeks ago, dude literally lives and breathes their games, devastated to hear he didn't get one that just ain't right.
He was very harsh on 76 (justifiably so), might have ruffled some feathers.
As many have said, Im wanting to go in blind too. Have fun Jon. I'll revisit in a few weeks most likely.
I've been having such a great time with this one! It's unmistakably Bethesda, but it still feels like a completely new experience. Even with the strong references to past games and caryover mechanics with perks and skills and gear and such, it doesn't feel at all like Skyrim or Fallout in space.
One small step for Jon, one great series for us
Hey, Jon, you still need skill points to level up skills even after you complete the challenges! The challenges just get you a "certification", and you have to actually spend a skill point to use that cert and move on to the next level of the skill.
Edit: Aaaaaand I think he figured that out. It's what I get for commenting before finishing the video.
Day 1129 of requesting Zoo Tycoon. A good space opera is worth its weight in gold, no matter what the local gravity situation may do to the scales. I'm so glad I get to watch the childlike wonder of Jon in a new Bethesda game firsthand!
So happy to see Starfield thru your adventures! Couldn't afford an XBox & no PC. Until I get flush and splurge, living in this universe thru you will be a OK with me! Btw, big fan of your XCom2 series, so coming along for another ride.
Same here.on 'pc' side i have only a steam deck which at a point could play this and i will do it . I love rpgs and space games :) for the moment this playthrough will be my go to :)
I love Jon’s play throughs of BGS games. So darn entertaining! Keep up the great work!
Jon is the only man that plays a space fantasy game and takes on mortgage and dependants
Thank god this is a series not a live stream because I have been waiting just for you to play it!! Cries in PS5 and Mac
Yep, I have to say the same as many other people, this is my most anticipated game of this year, and I'm going to do my own play-through before watching this series.
I played 4 hours yesterday as a cyber runner introvert and i swear i never had a clue what was going on but it was alot of fun. A bit confusing on where to go and the ui is fairly annoying but i still cant wait to get home and play more.
Thank you jon
ITS HERE
PRAISE THE EDITING AND THE PROCESSING GODS
We made it im so happy to watch you play this!!!!!
An rpg where you can have living parents?!?!? 10/10 game of the year.
This episode is going to be fun to come back to if he ever does You Only Live Once.
You know it's a bad job if a bunch of people standing around and vaporizing beryllium with giant lasers like that's just Tuesday need a special sacrificial new guy to do it.
Berylliosis is a really nasty business.
Since I don't game on PC or own an Xbox this will be my way of consuming this game.
I finally finished everything i want to do in the game so now i can actually watch these. I'm looking forward to it
You're who I've been waiting for to start their playthrough! So excited
I preordered this i just have to go pick it up! I cant wait. You’re playthroughs are my favourite things ever!!!
A mine is pretty much a vault and capitol extraction is a sort of prison. I'll count it for Bethesda
Only Jon would make a si fi space game about exploring and adventure and more stories than you care to read and turn it half into a irl sim
The ship to ship combat is giving me some serious Freelancer vibes
Ah CO2 vs Oxygen. That explains how one guy I watched got lung damage. He kept maxing his CO2 thinking it was O2 levels.
While I love your F4 playthroughs like YOLO, I love watching your first series while you learn the game!
To me, this game is amazing. Everything I wanted. The menu system is completely off the rails though and confusing as hell. But everything else has been great.
What is confusing you about the menus?
