I have traced all 4 grandparents lines. Two lines go back to Scotland, including the Waldrop line that I had been told all my life came from Germany. The other traces back to the Ewings of Stirling. They are part of Clan MacEwan and I have a kilt in that tartan, and I'm working on getting one in the Ewing, but it is restricted, so I'm working with Clan Ewing UK on that. Another line, Ellis, I have traced to Wales and found their tartan. I will order it soon. The fourth line apparently ends in Ireland, but I've been told they came from England before that, I just haven't found the proof. I found a photo of a tartan that was labeled Waldrop, but haven't found it on the register. They were lowlanders, from around Glasgow and then Edinburgh, and tartans were apparently not as much of a thing in that area. My wife traces her family back to Clan Johnstone and we are both getting kilts/skirts in that tartan.
I have struggled with convincing my wife that it's worth spending the money. Mine is a small clan with its own tartan, but is not made so it has to be custom ordered. Kind of a pain.
@@thescottishclans the Harknesses I believe were lowland covenanters, I know James Harkness of Locherben lead a band of covenanters to free slaves bound to be sold in the new world, unfortunately his brother was hung in his stead. Fascinating stories I'm constantly sharing these stories in hopes my wife is inspired enough to let me do it lol
I had to do with with the Waugh Tartan. I spoke to a kilt maker I was familiar with in the UK, and he told me my best bet was to find other people with my surname who would go in on the order. Long story short, I got 6 guys to participate, and it was much more affordable. We all got 8yd knife pleat kilts, ties, flashes, fly plaids, for a very reasonable price, and it got me in contact with some amazing distant family members that I never would have known if it wasn't for the quest to get the tartan woven. Good luck!
Choose? Choose!?! You mean Ask the Chief of the Hereditary Coat of Arms of Ross, Barron of Balnagown David Campbell Ross of Ross formerly of Pictland if I can wear Ross Royal Red (Regalia)! Otherwise Ross Hunting Green it tis!
My Dick's too Big for a Kilt anyways, and they make me wear a 3rd Sock, and although it's Warm, it still just feels wrong with it just swinging about slapping everyone's knees.
MacDonald(lots of Red), MacDonald Sleat (lots of Red), MacNaughton (lots of Red), MacLinton (lots of Red), MacDonald Hunting (no Red), and US Army (no Red) - So Those are the ones I wear!
Lol. The kilt gestapo is in the house! I have seen Scots wear their kilts to football games, and they were much more casual than this. He's not at a Burns dinner or a wedding, he is hiking. Leave him be.
A Video on the Origins of the Scottish Clans, from another person that knows nothing of the Scottish Clans!!! Sounds Incredibly Insulting! Why don't you start at my Ancestors (it's called a Pedigree, a name once protected by LAW!) The Chief of the Great Clan Ross the Earl of Ross was 4th to put his Seal to, the Declaration of Arbraoth! And Understand the Scoti, not all Scottish, are Sycthians, and or Invaders! And we were in Clans long before our invasion of Scotland. Clan Ross all the Gentry of the Great Clan Ross was Clan Arias (Anrias) in the Days of and before the once War Master of Scotland, the Chief of Clan Arias, Husband to the Queen of Mann, the 1st Earl of Ross Fearchar, the Son of the Priest! And we can be seen in Eygpt as such, as Clan Arias around 2000 years ago, or stomping across the Roman Empire with the Goths... I don't think you know a thing about the CLANS do yee Boi!?!
Congratulations on a pedantic comment that's nearly incomprehensible. Are you going for a medieval accent there or are you mocking the Scottish accent?
How can you tell which branch of a clan you are if you family has Ben in the us for almost 200 years

It's expensive, but fortunately my wife is on board with me being a serial kilter.

The struggle is real...

Your pins in the wrong location and your wearing a kilt with a tshirt and hiking boots, instantly disqualified to give any authority on tartan
